Battlehawk Embassy, Daniel's Island

It was all too quiet, Ambassador Joe Johnson thought to herself. Not much was going on today. Until, that is, a comotion was heard downstairs in the Lobby.
"What is going on here?" Joe asked as she walked down the main stairs. One of the Marines was stood in the middle of the Hall with a Young Lady at his side.
"MY Office, NOW!"

OOC: Ok, from here the person playing the Marine explains to Joe, everyone else starts to get hints of the impending troubles.

Rodger Lorinzy, the Chief Ambassoder to the island had been waiting all day for an audience with Johnson, and upon hearing the comotion, he twisted in his seat to see it's source. When Ambassador Johnson rose to usher in a soldier and some female and brought them to her attention before him, he was quite peeved. What ever trouble some soldier had roused up with the locals hardly seemed to be worthy of this scale of government to him. The workings of nations out side the Grand Duchy alway had the capacity to surprise him, though he was no new comer to foreign politics. He shifted in his seat and pulle dout his cell phone to check the time, he noticed a text message from the Ambassador Administration Sub Office; Foreign Affair Directive of the Grand Duchy outlining that some sort of political riot was going on out side of the Embassy, and that they weren't allowing any foreign nationals out. With a heavy sigh, he dropped his head back wards and looked up at the cieling. Trade relations had becomed strained lately as, despite the social progressiveness and governmental capacity Iantatia had, corruption was still rampant through out the political system, as such, black market trade and the devaluing of the crest currency had been straining the relations between the Island and the Grand Duchy. Grand Duke Lehn's main perrogative for Rodger was to maintain and assure that solid economic systems were in effect and that there was no reason for the Islan'd government to become skepticle of their relations. He could already tell he would be put on hold. It would be a long day.

ooc: Shit, I'm really bad at making up names. We can just call this a placeholder, and I'll replace it if you want.

Ben Bashir hurried Hannah Wright into the office. As the ambassador closed the door, Bashir immediately began talking.
"Sir, I can explain everything. I met her in a local restaurant and, well, things kind of went normally until her father, uh, walked in on us. He just grabbed my arm and screamed something about rape. Then my arm just shot up and knocked him out. I really didn't mean to, it was just instinct. So we ran, and I brought her back here."

Lorinzy waved off the Deputy. "It's okay, this is modern diplomacy for modern beurocracies." He tried to give a weak smile, but he realy wasn't interested in the deputy or his excuses, though he did regret coming off so elitist. 'Iantatia is more thoughtful than the rudeness I displayed.' He thought, trying to remind himself that he wanted his nation to appear nole and generous and proper, and that he was it's direct representation. He contemplated over what a small disturbance might mean, and how it would effect the goings on of his current mission. He knew the Foreign Affair Directive often took steps to mitigate problems in it's allied and preferally allied nations, he could easily see their view in trying to bring a rational and sensible view point to the plight of the marine, especialy if the situation elevated. Considering that he might be required to become increasingly involved, he decided to pre emptively inform the Directive of the intial situation, stating he would inform them more thouroghly as the situation developed.

Hannah watched as Ben walked out, then turned back to Johnson.
"Sir, my 'side' sounds exactly the same as his, except for this. My father has always been a horrible man, and I hate him. He is going to come back, probably with several politicians in tow. He'll probably demand that I am 'returned.' I am not going back. I am sorry for what will happen to you and your nation, and especially sorry for what could happen to Ben, but I am not going back. I am officially requesting asylum."

Deputy Ambassador Martin Ritter was sitting on a bench in the hall when the young marine came in with a young woman in tow. A look at their faces told him it was trouble. After a moment, he turned his attention back to the book in his lap. In any case, it was no affair of his. He was here to help open formal diplomatic relations with the local government, had booked a flight in last night, and had just arrived early for his appointment with one Ambassador Johnson. At his side sat a young man named Michale Harrison with dark hair and a briefcase, a political science major acting as an intern, and a young woman named Elizabeth North who was his personal secretary. Dressed in plain cloths and leaning nonchalantly against a wall twenty feet away was a member of the Federal Security Agency who's name was Bruce something or other, and who completed his diplomatic party.

Bruce Larrent of the Federal Security caught site of the young couple running up the steps even before they barged in through the door. He casually straitened up, glancing in a mildly interested way in the direction of the commotion. No point drawing attention to himself over a couple of distraught lovers.

(OOC: I'm RPing as a diplomatic team sent to begin negotiations on establishing relations between our countries. Since I've hardly done any MT RPing with this nation, an introductory visit seemed appropriate. I hope that is acceptable. Also, do you allow foreign dignitaries to bring armed security when visiting your embassy?)

THe request for asylum caught Rodger's attention. Grand Duke Lehn had a welcome policy for foreign nationals and expatriots and other political misfits, his addresses have always expressed the wealth of information, creativity, and the opportunity for knowledge that comes with open borders and encouragement to what he calls the politically creative. Clearly this would be a situation he would try to put his foot into. Maybe a peaceful resolution of this marine's love affair would ease tension with the Island nation and the Grand Duchy. He sat forward, in doing so, he noticed the entrance of the new group that had entered the Ambassador's office. They didn't look to be any representatives he knew, so it must be a nation Iantatia did not deal much with, if at all. The presense of an armed gaurd and a secretary suggested to him that they must be new to the socio-political stage. He wondered what their business here was, and if an opportunity for forging a new relationship may present it's self.

Ambassador James Ackup leaned back in his chair. It had been a long day with all the paperwork he had been going through. Not to mention the fact that the noise from the riot across town was causing him to loose his concentration. Compounding it all was the fact that he was not allowed to leave for his private residence untill the situation across town had cleared up. At this time one of his guards wearing a suit so as not to alert local residents came in and said "sir the situation across town has not cleared up and doesn't seem to be anytime soon do you think we should evacuate?"
"No not yet, let's see how the situation develops most of these things die down pretty quickly. I just hope it ends soon enough for me to get home" The ambassador responded. The ambassador was about to reach the age of 48 and had been in the foreign and commonwealth office for almost 16 years. "I've been through a few of these situations before." the ambassador continued "We don't need to worry I think this won't affect us at all..."

"Actually if you don't mind, I think I'll go greet my fellow Ambassador." So saying he crossed the room and approached the Ambassador, holding out a hand in greeting.

As far as the situation is concerned, I'll wait and see how matters progress. They don't seem to be disbanding."

after taking a few puffs of his cigar leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling for a few seconds "Racial eh. Well we could be here longer than I thought. Agent Larrent had moved a little closer to the door, where he could catch some snippets of the conversation inside. He glanced up as he saw several figures congregating outside of the building. His experiences as a soldier were warning him that this was trouble. He moved closer to the door, shifting his position to get a better view of the outside. A significant crowd appeared to be gathering now, and they were clearly angry. He reached into his coat and pulled out his watch, removing the safety on is hand gun and loosening it in its holster as he did so. Indeed, a crowd had gathered outside of the embassy walls. At their head, a man from the Blackhelm Confederacy, a miserable man by any standards, stood with a bullhorn on top of a soap box.

"These people come here and ruin the purity of your children, this can not be allowed to continue!"

He continued yelling into the bullhorn, gradually getting more and more vulgar. Another man in the crowd, oddly enough another Confederate ex-pat, picked up a brick from a nearby construction site, and lobbed it over the wall to the embassy. Soon, dozens of other people were rushing the construction site, stealing more bricks and pieces of steel, and they too began throwing things. The riot had gotten out of hand incredibly quickly.

Martin and Larrant both spun around as the first brick smashed through the window along with a volley of angry shouts. His other hand dropped to the butt of his semi-automatic.

"Get back sir, into the next hallway. You two as well." He glanced over at the intern and the secretary. Then he turned to Ambassador Johnson.

"Please escort my party out of the building imediately, if you wish to avoid a diplomatic incident. I should warn you that I am armed and authorized to use deadly force if nessissary to protect the delegate." He crawled back towards the hall, keeping the rest of the party behind him. His eyes swept the crowd outside the shattered windows as more debris came flying in. In one swift motion he drew his gun.

Agent Larrant nodded.

"Thank you mam. Now, lets get out of here."

As they hurried downt he steps towards the Control Room, Martin made three attempts to contact the Foreign Ministry. The first two recieved only static, but on the third he managed to get a faint and badly garbled voice on the other end. He stopped just above the control room, hoping he wouldn't lose the signal.

"Yes, this is Deputy Ambassador Ritter... that's right, Ritter. Can you please put me through to Secretary Val. Yes, the Secretary. Secretary Val. I don't care if he's busy, tell him its urgent. I said its urgent."

Minister Alan Val sat at his desk in the main offices of the Department of Foreign Affairs, reading through a long list of memos and reports. He took another sip of water, trying to ignore the headache and his stinging eyes after two days without sleep. He stretched for a moment, then forced himself to turn back to the papers. He was relieved when the phone rang.

The secretary was transfering a call from Deputy Ambassador Ritter. He liked Ritter, a sharp young man who had been his aid for a short time before being promoted to his current rank when Val got the appointment as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. He looked forward to hearing from Ritter on his latest assignment, though the urgency of the call was concerning. However, his smile soon faded altogether.

"Yes, this is Alan. That you Ritter? Good to here from you. Now, what's so urgent? What's that? How the hell did that happen? A girl? Ah, shit. Are you safe? For now? Good. Listen I'm losing the signal, but I'll get in touch with... I said I'll get in touch with the President and try to get you at transport. Yes, good luck. Try to stay out of the way." The signal went dead.

Val slowly put down the phone, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. Then he pulled out his remote, flicked on The Republican News Network, and picked up the phone again. As he dialed the number, he caught a bried sound bite about some scuffle in the streets outside an embassy. Hopefully it was no more than that. The phone rang.

"Yes? Hello Ms. Cortez. This is Alan Val. Put me through to the President. He's in a meeting? Ok, as soon as he's out, tell I called, and that its urgent." With another sigh he put down the phone. It was going to be a long night.

Larrant heard a distant burst of automatic gunfire. This wasn't good. They had been sent down here, and Ritter had been given clear orders to stay out of the way. Besides, if the local officials were being entirely forthright, their was no way out in any case. If. However, either the guards had gone too far and turned this into a political nightmare, or the crowd had broken out the guns first, in which case they were likely going to storm the embassy. If this was racially motivated, a foreign dignitary might be nothing but another foreigner to lynch. Or they might be wanting hostages. Which could be even worse. He turned to the Deputy Ambassador.

"With all due respect, Sir, I think it may be time to leave."

Martin got up and walked over to him.

"And where do we go? This whole place is locked down. Want to try shooting your way through that mob? Secretary Val will have notified the President by now. If local forces can't handle it, they'll send someone to get us out."

"And what if they can't, sir? What if the mob breaks through before then?" He pointed to the intern and the secretary and said quietly: "what about them? Your aid's a college student, not a soldier. He's not even an ambassador. You're going to stay here and let them get killed? At least let me go and find out what's going on."

The Deputy shook his head.

President Victor Hernandez shut the doors to his private offices, sealing out a cluster of journalists, political interns, and legislators behind thick, reinforced oak and four top officers of Federal Security. Walking over to his desk in the next room, he sat down, dialling his secretary.

"Give me the call from Alan." He had learned that if the Secretary demanded to see him on urgent business, it was best not to wait.

"Hello, Alan. Yes, its me. What was it you wanted to talk to me about?" His face grew steadily more solemn as he listened to his advisor. A minute later he was paging through the folder Alan had forwarded to his office, describing the general political situation of Daniel's Island, and the scant media reports on the situation thus far. A minute later he had picked up the phone again, this time to speak to Retired Admiral Christina Winters, the Secretary of Defense.

"Christina? Yes, this is Victor. I presume Alan has informed you of the situation in Daniel's Island? I want to know how quickly you can get a pair of marine helicopters with commando teams ready to go and get our people out." He smiled as he heard the reply:

"Mr President, I have already selected a team. They can be ready to head out in half an hour, and will arrive in local waters in less than three days by destroyer. Should I enact preparations for a general evacuation of our nationals?"

"No, not yet. We don't want to exacerbate the situation by overreacting. However, we will be issuing a travel advisory tomorrow in conjunction with my public statement, and I recomend that you draw up plans for a general airlift if it is deemed unfortuantely nessissary by worsening circumstances."

Victor sighed as he put down the phone. Now for the difficult part. He needed to get his people out, but barring a state of war with Daniel's Island, he needed their government's permission to go in and get them. It would be made much harder, he feared, by the lack of established diplomatic relations. He wondered if he would even be able to make the call, or if it would be ignorred or mired in red tape. But he had to try it first. After a long pause, he picked up the phone again.

"Yes, I'd like to make a call to the government of Daniel's Island. Tell them its from the President of the Romulan Republic."

Behind it, hundreds swarmed into the compound as the Confederate man on the bull horn cheered and incited the mob to further acts. Another van had pulled up and was handing out equipment. Bats, crowbars, axes, handguns, assault rifles, weapons of all sorts were being dispensed from the vans, as more and more molotov cocktails feel around the compound.

After a few moments the short, dark haired commander gestured, and the screen lit up with a cluster of maps, pictures, and diagrams. The major straightened his uniform slightly, then turned to address the group.

"Good eavening ladies and gentelmen. As you should now be aware from the information in your folders, which I will remind you again currently carries a level three classification, a Battlehawk embassy in Daniel's Island has come under siege from a mob, while four of our citizens were engaged in a diplomatic visit, including a high-ranking diplomat, his intern and secretary, and an officer of Federal Security. Their status is currently unknown, as we are having dificulty maintaining open communications. However, latest reports showed that the crowd had broken out molotov cocktails and automatic weapons. Their is a risk of either a massacre or a hostage situation, or both, resulting from this situation. While it appears that for now the building's formidable security is holding the line, the President has resolved to send a mission to evacuate our diplomatic team. Given that their is the possibility that an extraction unit will come under fire, we will be going in fully armed for heavy combat. However, and I cannot stress this strongly enough, we are to excercise as much restraint as possible. We are not to use lethal force unless some one attempts to use it on us or any of our citizens. We are trying to establish peaceful relations with foreign nations, not start wars, etc, etc.

Of course, all this is pending permission to go in from the local government, and the government of Battlehawk as well. However, I have been instructed to inform you all of this planned opperation, and brief you in advance. Now, I suggest you go get some sleep. We will move out immediately upon recieving clearence to depart. That is all. Dismissed!"

The RSS Lightning steamed towards the Blackhelm Confederacy at top speed. They would take two days to arrive, but given the volatility of the area and the situation, the vessel was at a yellow alert status. Most of the marines were off-duty, enjoying a break and watching the news off the television in the Rec room, where a travel advisory was being played.

"Due to a new outbreak of violence in the Blackhelm Confederacy directed against foreign nationals, the government updated its travel advisory for the region this morning, advising all citizens of The Romulan Republic who are in the Blackhelm Confederacy to return home, and if in need of assisstance to contact the government by calling 1-555-367-8214 or emailing the Department of Foreign Affairs through their website at www.DepartmentofForeignAffairs/advisory/Blackhelm.com. The advisory also urged citizens with travel plans to the region to consider canceling or postponing them until the current situation is resolved. The rioting, centered around a Battlehawk Embassy, appears to have been started over the alledged rape of a local woman by a Battlehawk marine, but their are concerns that the violence could extend to the targetting of all foreign nationals within the Blackhelm Confederacy. President Hernandez will make a public statement on the situation at 6:00 this evening, where it is expected that he will urge swift but restrained action from the government in surpressing the violence and protecting both its own citizens, and foreign nationals."

(OOC: The Lighting is a destroyer armed mostly with anti-air craft guns and conventional ship to ship missiles. It can carry a couple of medium-sized helicopters, which is why its being used for this mission. It will not enter Blackhelm waters unless nessissary, but will be used simply as a means of transporting helicopters over long distances in a situation where deploying an aircraft carrier would be excessive. Also, despite appearing as a link, I assure you the government website adress the news report gave does not exist. The computer simply appears to read it as a valid link.;)

Finally, how far are you going to allow this situation to escallate? I'm thinking that if my helicopters go in under heavy fire, this could turn into a Black Hawk Down type situation, which would potentially mean a larger-scale intervention on my part).
