IC- General Karl Jones looked out across the camp of the XI Corps, the force tasked with the forward defense of New Samara against the Torturous Chambers. The VII Corps was en route, three days away, from the opposite end of the colony. And he had 18,000 Colonial Guard, pretty much militia. Not very handy in a full-on fight, but useful as skirmishers. At sea, his close friend Steven Sireck was in charge of the local fleet. The regualr force of 7 frigates was augmented by 3 of the new ironclads. And a special mission was out on a quest for some additional help...
The Island of Tarsonis
The sloop appraochd the coastline, carrying Deputy Governor Adams, as well as a gift of tribute, weapons, and if they desired, slaves. When they neared the shore, Adams got off the sloop and went to see the Tarsonis leader. "Hello, sir. I represent the nation of Samara. We would be willing to reward you handsomely if you would fight for us. We offer gold, weapons, slaves if you desire, and two uncolonized islands as rewards. As well as any loot acquired on the battlefield."

OOC: Judging by the amount of your forces, this will be a preliminary landing. The main force of 40,000 infantrymen will arrive later. For now the warships and artillery will protect the regiment of cavalry from counter-attack.
IC: The 3000 cavalry and 200 Republican Guards rushed ashore under the heavy suppressing fire of the warships off the coast. The 8 ships of the line, 14 schooners, 4 scouts, and 4 ironclads were more than a match for the small Comorastan navy, but a seperate mission was undertaken to ascertain additional help...
Island of Tarsonis:
The emissaries of Torturous Chamber came ashore, and met the diplomat of Tarsonis. We have arranged many gifts for you. We have 13 large unclaimed islands off the coast of Torturous Chamber, and would like to offer them to you for assistance in our war on Samara. A huge sum of money, along with beautiful Chamberlain ladies have also been brought to you. We hope you accept this, and help us in our Grand War.

The landings were met with little, if any resistance. General Jones began sending out cavalry scouts to ascertain the strength and intention of the landings.
Island of Tarsonis
The arrival of the Chamberlain mission was expected. The size of their offer was not. "We offer far more," replied Deputy Governor Adams, "we offer weapons to aid you in future battles. We offer half a ship full of gold. And over half the slaves are female."

Tarsonis
Lord Marshall Kevin Kast, did his best to be unbiased in hearing the claims of both emisseries. Both had good offers, but the Comorostan General had overlooked one thing. The Barbaric trade of Slavery was illegal in Tarsonis, and they would not abide any nation that trafficed in humans. Concubines however were different, a gloris part of the Tortuous chambers history, and Kast could stomach that. The women they delivered would become full fledged citizens with the rights of every other Tarsonian citizen.
"Governor Adams, your offer is indeed mighty, but you make a common mistake. You must know a mans poison, before you bribe him. Having done so, you would realize we here in Tarsonis are disqusted by forced labor and human bondage, and you would not have insutled me by offering them. We may be small, but what we lack in man power, we make up with in technology. Tortuans, you may return to your nation, aboard one of our might fleets. Ground troops will be transported later, should your need arise. Good day gentle man."

OOC-reposting my ORBAT so I remember
Samaran Order of Battle:
Land: 2 Corps (72,000 men)
Each Corps: 36,000 men
3 Infantry Divisions (10,000 men each)
1 Cavalry Division (6,000 men)
Also, the Colonial Guard: 18,000 men, mostly militia
Three Infantry Divisions (6,000 men each)
Sea: 3 ironclads (40 guns each)
7 regular frigates (30 guns each)
As the scouts reported back, General Jones saw that this was a small, opening force. If he could crush this force, the main army would have to turn back, or come ashore under tremendous resistance. To this end he dispatched 2 infantry divisons (20,000 men) to attack the landing.
Meanwhile, Admiral Sireck, coordinating with General Jones, sends 2 ironclads and 5 frigates to attack the Chamberlain fleet, if not to crush them, at least to keep them busy. He was still awaiting an additional 3 ironclads and 8 frigates, which were en route, about 5 days away.

The 8 ships-of-the-line, the 14 schooners, and the 4 ironclads of the Chamberlain Navy turned to face the oncoming fleet with their broadsides. A flag message was sent to the Tarsonis naval contingent.
Meanwhile, the main force of 40,000 troops was approaching the area. It was guarded by a total of 30 ships. The convoy was untouchable.

The Samaran fleet moved forward, when it was in range, it turned and opened up with broadsides.
On the ground, the first of the 20,000 Samaran infantry advanced on the landing beaches, supported by artillery fire.

The larger Chamberlain navy quickly gained the upper hand in the battle, but the assault on land was not going too well. "Where are you, Tarsonis..."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 3000 cavalry, led by the cataphracts, charge forward, carbine rifles ablaze. The artillery of the 4 small scout ships offshore supported and quickly tore a whole in the lines. The cavalry circled around the back and attacking the enemy from behind. The Republican Guards, meanwhile, were holding up in the earthworks fort.

The cavalry attacks were met with a counter-charge by the 7th Cavalry Division, 6,000 in all. The infantry fended them off the best they could while advancing towards the fort, which was being pummeled with cannon fire. And some batteries opened up on the scout ships.

The Chamberlain cavalry retreated towards the fort, battered by the enemy. Meanwhile, the group of 30,000 infantry and 10,000 cavalry landed. This group, however, was very disorganized. They could fend off an attack on them, but it would be a half-hour atleast until they were ready to counter-attack.

OOC-also, how do they all land simultaneously? not trying to be a jerk, just wondering...
IC-The arrival of the first of the main force prompted General Jones to order a general retreat. He had lost about 130 dead in this skirmish. But he had gotten a good appraisal of the enemy's capabilities. Admiral Sireck also pulled back, having lost 2 frigates. But now the 3 ironclads and 8 frigates had arrived, putting his total fleet up to 6 ironclads and 13 frigates. And VII Corps was arriving as well. This was about to turn into a slugging match.

OOC:They were already offshore. They were in landing craft that could land them along an area. They did it at D-Day, and they did it here. It was maybe in two waves...
also, it's ok, just trying to save my Republican Guards. They are the elite, and I have plans for them.

TSS Pheonix
Admiral Arterius Daggar watched the battle unfolding before him. They had been sitting, a good distance away out of sight of both Forces. Armed with a new exhaust technology that eliminated the high column of smoke that gave away most IronClads, the Tarsonian IronClads were sleek, low to the surface and hard to spot. As the sun began to fall on the battle field, The Tarsonian fleet began to move forward. The blazing BLack and Red frigats and wave runners held back as the sleek Ironclads slipped forward, cutting around behind the Samaran Fleet.
"Now," Daggar said, and the long Range 110 pound cannons of the Taronian ships opened fire. All 36 cannons blazing the 16 starboard broadside blasting at the Samaran fleet while the port side pounded at the entrenched Samaran forces on land. Incindiary shells arced through the sky smashing upon bulkheads and fortifications. From the First gunshot the other tarsonian forces began heading to battle aimiing for the flank.

The arrival of the Tarsonian fleet prompted a hurried withdrawal by the Samaran fleet. They managed to avoid losing any ships, but several were in bad shape. Gen. Jones ponders what to do next. He still out-numbers the Chamberlain forces on land, but he is going to have to wait until they are out of range of naval support.

The navy did not pursue. A few were damaged, but the white pine of the wooden ships had prevented any deadly hits. Also, naval support had to be maintained until the troops on land were in good shape.

The Samaran skirmish force was set up. Numbering 10,000 strong in a line of light fortifications (log breastworks, etc.), and supported by light 5 pdr. cannons interspersed along the line, which fired canister and exploding shot, they would be able to at least slow down the Chamberlain advance considerably.
SIC (Secretly In Charater)-Farther back, the rest of VII Corps was moving into positions. General Jones' plan called for a series of concentric defensive lines around the landing beach to contain the landing. The idea was that eventually the Chamberlains would exhaust themselves charging the fortifications, whereupon the Samarans could sally forth and drive them back into the sea. With their land force destroyed, Gen. Jones was sure their fleet would withdraw.

"Cover!" shells rained down on the beaches, but their muzzle flashes gave their positions away. The naval guns on the ships opened up on the vicinity of the firing guns, as well as the Chamberlain field artillery.
