Four Heatons Ship Surprise

The Surprise and her Battlegroup slipped through the sea. The new Carrier had done well on the first leg of her patrol and was now entering the open seas.
It was only a matter of time before they came across a ship out here and would once again make contact with another navy or civvilian ship, for the first time in 3 years...

Captain Burtie of the CSS Bathandrororug gazed through his telescope at the nearby carrier battlegroup, pondering the best course of action. His taskforce of four subs had been ordered to patrol nearby shipping lanes for any pirate or other activity. Definitely goes under the other category, pulling up the telescope he began to bark out some orders.
"Have the rest of the taskforce dive into deeper waters and quietly get us closer to the surface, we need to radio control for further instructions and appraise them of the situation."
"Do you think they're the pirates sir?"
"I sure hope not cadet, I sure hope not..."

The WHS Longfang a Admiral Kuzenetzov Carrier was patroling with her battlegroup. They were returning from Naval exercises with other CIS nations. As the entered the open ocean, they began to pick up soanar contacts and hull signitures of a nation they had not heard for some time.....The Four Heatons.

"Sonar Contact! Unkown Battlegroup! Possible nuclear contact!" Came the call form the Sonar room
"Confirm that! All hands battlestations, inform the battlegroup to go to battlestations, also inform the air boss to direct the CAP over to the vecinity" The captain who had been enjoying his coffe called out from behind the radar pannel.
"CAP is en-route, ETA 5 Minutes"
"Sir! We have a confirmd hull signature.....you will never guess who sir" Called the soanar operator
"Daniel Islands or a CIS nation?"
"Nope"
"Battlehawk?"
"Close"
"Its not like it is the Four Heatons"
"Erm...it is sir"

That captain spat his coffe out at almost terminal velocity and it impacted on his XOs face, his look of horror at the name of Four Heatons turned to one of comedy at his XOs rather displeased look.

"Got some ships on Radar" A Tactical officer reported.
"Identify" Cpt Elizabeth Langely ordered.
"They're quiet far away, but it appears to be the Wolf Hold" The Tactical officer replied.
"Interesting" Elizabeth commented thinking hard "Their intentions?"
"Unsure, we'll have to wait to see what they do when they detect us" The Tactical officer suggested.

"Of course, yes we'll back off and see what they do, yes we'll radio any further advancements and huh, thanks bye.." Burtie turned to the helmsman. "Take us down, we are to observe and wait if those two groups of ships don't start attacking each other, we are to surface and make contact and ask about any pirates in the area."
"Aye Aye sir."
The CSS Bathandrororug silently glided down towards the other submarines in its group content to wait it out and see if these were the pirates they were searching for...

"I think they've clocked us" The Tactical Lt commented.
"Why" ELizabeth asked.
"They've re-directed their CAP" The Lt replied.
"Great, General Quarters" Elizabeth muttered
"All SHips this is Surprise, General Quarters all hands" THe Lt announced to the group.
"Double the CAP, we've got those F-28 'Talons' from the Battlehawk right?" Elizabeth asked.
"Correct, came aboard last week replacing our F-18's till the 'Titan' enters production" The Lt replied.
"Good, the F-28's supirour to the F-18" Elizabeth commented "Lets see what they do first"

13-03-2009, 23:07
Early morning fog still shrouded the Volzgradien Naval Squadron as they cut through the water at a moderate pace. Overall, the group accounted for 12 ships: 1 Imperial Class Dreadnought, 2 Kirov Class Battlecruisers, 7 Neustrachimy Class Frigates, and 2 Armoured Bulk Shipment Tankers. It was hardly a laughable force, but not exactly one to be heavily feared either. Their mission was simple enough, to guard Volzgrad's massive military manufacturing industry from pirates and brigands. This particular convoy was supplying several hundred Mk.III "Ragnarok" Pattern Heavy Siege Pieces to one of Volzgrad's many clients. It was a shipment worth millions, and the Volzgradien Imperial Navy wanted to make sure it stayed bloody well safe. The Naval Squadron was almost half way done its journey when the first signals of an approaching Naval Taskforce began to resonate on the IVN Triumphant's SONAR...

0745 Hours, Bridge of the IVN Triumphant

"What is it ensign?" Admiral Tschyukov asked as he impatiently strided across the bridge's polished interior.

"It appears to be a Naval Group. Unknown nationality or strength." The lanky, freckled ensign responded.

"Well what the hell are they doing here? Unless pirates suddenly grew some massive balls, I doubt they would take us head on." The Admiral mocked as he glanced out of the gleaming window to his left at the clearing fog.

"Wait...I'm getting something." The ensign replied, his voice an excited whisper, "Got it! Ships are confirmed to be Four Heatons!"

"Who?" Tschyukov inquired, straining to remember the name.

"They pissed of the Wolf Hold awhile back. Went into isolation and all that." The ensign answered, still intently staring at his SONAR equipment. The Admiral pondered for a second before approaching a nearby radio mounted on the bridge's wall.

"This is Admiral Tschyukov to all vessels, slow down and prepare battlestations. Hold fire until I give the order. Stay tight and keep your eyes open."

"Four Heatons increasing CAP! Should we reciprocate?" Called the XO of the ship, commander Danforth.
"Yes, Launch Wolf and Racoon Squadron, alongisde Fox they should be enough to force them down! Radio get me the Battlegroup!" Admiral Anderson yelled as he walked into the CIC, he was slightly breathless as he had ran from his cabin as soon as the alarms had rung. "Officer on deck!" Cried the captain at the same time as he pressed the correct buttons to connect the ships phone to the rest of the battlegroup. "Connected to battlegroup sir!" The Captain said. Picking up the ships phone he looked at the RADAR/SONAR screen.
"This is the Flag, Sound General Quaters, Four Heatons battlegroup detected, arm CIWS and activate target aqusition radar, That is all. Flag out!"
Placing the ships phone down, the admiral began staring at the RADAR/SOANR screen when a blip appeared on the screen, followed by several more blips. Just as he was bout to direct part of the CAP to the area he noticed the Volzgradian IFF show up. With a sigh of relif he turned back to the problem at hand the Four Heatons.

"All flights procede to waypoint Alpha 6-7 on my mark.....Mark!" The 6 F-22Ns banked right and formed up behind the 12 F-22Ns from Racoon and Fox Flight. Taking up their positon at the head of the F-22Ns they leveled out heading straight for the halfway mark between the two navies.

"Captain, Comms reports an encrypted message coming in, on the Four Heatons training frequency. They're already in the exercise zone, and wondering what happened to us," announced Ensign Charles Adams, of the SDFS Reliant. The Gerald R. Ford-Class carrier and its battlegroup had been deployed for fleet exercises alongside the Four Heatons navy. The intention was to hold the exercises for military reasons, in that it would hopefully be a beneficial training experience for both nations, and political reasons. The Foreign Relations Ministry hoped to send a message to several nations, stating that the Armed Republic had not forgotten Four Heatons or the events that had driven it from the world stage. Attempts to stir the pot again would be frowned upon, to say the least, by the Salzland government in Rostgard.

"All right Chuck, send them a reply. Tell them we ran into a slight delay, and are about three hundred miles out of the exercise zone. Also, let's broadcast the standard public alert that we'll be holding naval exercises, and clear any foreign vessels out of the zone. We don't want any accidents," replied Captain Larry Bronson. So far, beside running late it appeared that the exercises would be off to a decent start.

From: Office of the Minister of Defense, Salzland

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Armed Republic of Salzland wishes to announce that it will begin conducting naval exercises alongside vessels from the Allied States of The Four Heatons. Co-ordinates for the exercise zone are included in this message. For the duration of the exercise, a 90,000 square mile (OOC: 300 x 300 miles) box centered upon the co-ordinates listed will be declared a naval and aerial exclusion zone.

The exercise has been scheduled to occur outside commercial shipping lanes which, along with our exclusion declaration, is intended to ensure that no civilian or military vessels belonging to non-participating nations enter the zone. As these exercises will include simulated live-fire attacks, it is in the best interests of any and all vessels currently inside the zone to depart at best speed.

We have duly issued twenty four (24) hours of notice prior to commencing these exercises, so that any vessels presently in the specified area have the opportunity to depart. As is our obligation, the Armed Republic has provided fair and public warning for all non-participating vessels and aircraft to depart the exercise zone immediately. Vessels or aircraft which ignore our warning will be escorted either by Four Heatons or Salzland aircraft and/or naval vessels out of the exercise zone. Should any accidents occur, we will not accept liability for the safety of any vessels, aircraft, crew, passengers, equipment, cargo or any other materials transported by said vehicles which choose to ignore our warning.

Signed,

Please Be Advised,

If you are currently within the three hundred (300) by three hundred (300) square mile box whose co-ordinates are included in this message, you are currently located inside a fleet exercise zone. Live fire weapons tests may occur. For your own safety, you are instructed to immediately depart the zone at best possible speed.

We ask that you please respond on this channel, indicating your vessel or aircraft name and classification, present location and course, and estimated time to departure. Any vessels or aircraft that do not announce themselves will be escorted out of the zone immediately by Four Heatons or Salzland forces. Any vessels or aircraft that do not proceed out of the engagement zone will be escorted out by Four Heatons or Salzland forces. Any vessels or aircraft which instigate hostile actions will be responded to with force, up to and including being fired upon.

Should any aircraft or vessel refuse to depart, the Armed Republic of Salzland will not accept liability for any accidents which occur as a result of any live fire weapons tests.

Gentlemen, due to the close proximity of your fleet to our allies,it's needless to say that any action taken against a Federal and CIS/CIN ally will be regarded as an act of war against Federation proper.
You have been warned, good day to you kind sir.

Hammerhead Patrol group,40 Nautical miles from WH fleet

On "Sombor" everything was tense, because of the small amount of support this fleet could give to their allies, and to defend themselves and increasingly hostile and tense situation taken its toll.Everybody onboard was edgy and annoyed by everything,24 hours on battlestations have been pretty hard on the crew. This small Patrol group was mainly assembled to fight against pirates who were attacking Federal merchant fleet, but it wasn't made of not even one regular war Federal ship.Other fleets were too far away and could only get there in 5 days minimum. They were on their own.

Sir,

Our satellite and long-range RADAR telemetry indicates that Four Heaton forces are currently stationed inside our publicly-declared fleet exercise zone. Our long-range RADAR also indicates that Wolf Hold naval aircraft are presently bearing down on Four Heatons aircraft and naval forces in an apparently unprovoked manner. Noting the history between these nations, it is our opinion that rapid separation between their forces would be in the best interests of all involved.

Noting your current course through the exercise zone, we advise you to make best speed on a direct course to your home ports. Live fire testing will be postponed until your vessels clear the zone, in order to prevent any possible accidents. Should you wish, I am willing to detail a pair of Oliver Hazard Perry-class Frigates to escort your vessels safely through the exercise zone. Any hostile actions taken against your vessels will have to go through ours, first.

We ask you to please inform Wolf Hold and CIS forces present in the exercise zone that Salzland and Four Heatons forces are present at this joint naval exercise merely for training purposes, and are not seeking any aggressive contact with outside nations. That said we are prepared to take actions to defend ourselves if necessary. Attacks on forces participating in a legal military exercise in a publicly-declared exclusion zone will result in the use of proper retalitory force and a declaration of war.

I'll reign in mine, if you reign in yours.

In the interests of avoiding any potential accidents or engagements between your forces and those belonging to the Four Heatons, or our own nation, we ask that you move to immediately evacuate your forces from our publicly-declared naval exercise zone. Upon speaking with Four Heatons command staff, they have agreed to pull their own forces back to allow yours to withdraw.

"Jesus Christ," muttered Captain Bronson, placing a hand on his forehead. "All right, bolster our CAP. I want the alert fighters up, and I want them up now. Then get me Commander Franklin, and tell him I want two of his pilots hand-picked for a special assignment. I want to show the Wolf Hold that we're serious about them leaving, before someone starts shooting."

"Viper One, this is Fleet Actual. Request confirmation that you have received updated mission orders," came the voice over LT. Gavin Smith's headset, from the Reliant's CIC. He had just received orders which would either end this budding confrontation, or cause it to errupt.

"Uh, roger that Actual. You want Viper Two and I to go in on the deck, at supersonic speeds, and buzz the Wolf Hold carrier's flight deck," he replied. Specifically, his orders were to "Fly right down their throats with the throttle pushed up to the firewall, and break every God d***ed window on the bridge." It was hoped that this action would be sufficient to deter the Wolf Hold from further violent actions.

At the altitude he and Viper Two would be flying, combined with the fact that both pilots were flying stealthed 'Sea Shadow' fighters and not emenating electronic emissions of any kind, Smith was confident that the Wolf Hold would be unable to detect either aircraft until the sonic booms of their passing struck the bridge. FleetCom wanted a message sent, specifically that further provocations would be frowned upon.

As Vipers One and Two banked toward the Wolf Hold fleet and dropped their altitude to a mere one hundred feet above sea level, both pilots noticed increased activity in the Salzland fleet. At least a dozen SH-60 SeaHawks were taking off, to supplement existing P-3 Orion anti-submarine patrols. More fighters were preparing to launch off the Reliant, along with a pair of E-2 Hawkeyes providing supplemental airborne radar coverage.

It certainly appeared as though what was supposedly a peacetime training exercise was threatening to break out into full-scale war.

Message received and understood. We're sending a message of our own to the Wolf Hold's carrier group. We advise you maintain current Rules of Engagement, and do not under any circumstances fire the first shot.

"Those Wolf Hold *censored* have done it again! When will they ever learn to stop starting fights?!?!" shouted Beckstein," Get the Hyena squadron in the air, and if the WH fighter do so much as ignore us, fire!" The orders were quickly sent to the flight deck, and the Hyena squadron prepared to lift off.

To: All Non-Four Heatons/Salzland Aircraft and Vessels in Joint Naval Exercise Zone
From: Captain Larry Bronson, CINC SDFS Reliant Battle Group

Following rising tensions, on behalf of the Armed Republic of Salzland I am authorized to advise any and all non-Four Heatons or non-Salzland vessels and aircraft to immediately depart the joint naval exercise zone, at best possible speed. Any vessels or aircraft which remain in this exercise zone after twelve hours, unless they have previously contacted Salzland or Four Heatons political or military authorities, will be considered hostile actors. Vessels inside the zone which are unable to exit within twelve hours, but are making good-faith efforts to depart, are exempted from the time restriction.

Our exercise was scheduled, publicly announced, and was deliberately located outside of all existing commercial shipping lanes in order to avoid interference from or interactions with non-participating nations. Vessels and aircraft within the exercise zone have been presented with several opportunities to peacefully depart, and in fact may still peacefully depart with no ill will garnered. Salzland's only interests in this matter extend toward conducting joint military exercises with the Four Heatons Navy, in an isolated, neutral, un-occupied corner of the ocean.

Further deployments of military units into this exercise zone will be considered evidence of the offenders' intent to forcefully disrupt these exercises, and their intent to commit an act of war against the Armed Republic of Salzland. Our patience in this matter has been fully exhausted.

Signed,

Captain Lawrence Bronson

Scince when could you just cordon off a part of the ocean. Is this part of the ocean inside your territorial waters? No I don't think it is. Frankly you can not demand other nations to leave international waters. So no thank you, my ships will stay here and we infact are awaiting on support from near bye fleets. We have as much right to be here as you.

"Sir we have a response from both Battlegroup Equium and from 3rd Wolf Pack. Battlegroup Equium is going to hold posisiton incase we need re-inforcements whilst 3rd Wolf Pack is en-route. ETA 10 minutes, they are comming in deep so SONAR shouldnt pick them up. Also 5th Airbourne Electronic Warfare Command has re-routed the AWACS Eagle Eye and J-STAR Demon to the theatre. We also have several KC-13 tankers in the area." Called out Tanya as the information came through, she was still barley able to keep on top of the situation.

Anderson studied the status board "Re-call Wolf, Fox and Racoon. Tell them to double time it to the KC-13s we need them re-fueled. After they are re-fueled they are to form up with Lion flight and provide air cover."

Admiral,

As our planned exercises include live fire weapons testing, the Armed Republic is entirely within its rights to clear any and all third-parties out of this exercise zone, if not for their safety then for ours. The fact that your nation has deployed forces into this live-fire zone, and insists upon deploying further forces, indicates that either the Wolf Hold Navy is suicidal, or that it is intending to disrupt these exercises by force. Both of these situations are unacceptably threatening to the Armed Republic of Salzland.

I am attempting to prevent a war from starting because of your petulant, foolish actions. Please, evacuate your forces from this exercise zone in peace, before a needless conflict erupts.

Signed,

Captain Lawrence Bronson

(OOC: I'm ret-coning the Sea Shadow overflight. I think there's already been sufficient provocation for someone to begin shooting)

(OOC#2: I'd like to establish where we are, at the moment. Specifically, whether we're in the Atlantic, Arctic, Indian or Pacific Oceans, for the purpose of establishing how long it would take me to deploy additional forces, once the shooting starts)

Bridge of the IVN Triumphant

Almost immediately after hearing the message from the Salzland force, the Volzgradien taskforce began to slow. Their mission was to guard against piracy, not start a potentially lethal international incident for no good reason against several nations. All of the Volzgradien vessels, save for the Dreadnought Triumphant, set a straight course at full speed toward their intended port to the north. The Dreadnought hastily peeled off from the rest of the taskgroup and chugged clumsily toward the Wolf Hold fleet. From the sounds of it, the other nations were having no luck in making them back off their threats. Maybe an ally like Volzgrad could be able to talk reason to the Wolf Hold force.

The P.F.N. Catamount was about to fire on the Wolf Hold Ships when a call was recieved from the capital. It requested for the Catamount to return to Pyshorian Waters to fight off a group of rebels who were attempting to seize the port city of Kantro. The catamount left, though in the water, it had left a suprise for the enemy, in case of an attack...
