PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS ‘09

The time has come, citizens of Parilisa, to once again choose the fate of your nation through our Presidential Elections. Your choice has the power to change the nation, your voice to change the lives of the billion people of the Republic.

There are four candidates, with four very different policies. The current President, Nathaniel Klein, will run again and opposed to him are the fascist Salieri, the conservative Kugler and the Communist, Dexter.

Candidate name: Nathaniel Klein
Party: The Social Democratic Liberal Party
Policies: Since his election at the founding of the Republic in 2005 the foremost of Klein’s aims have been healthcare, education and civil rights. He promises to continue with the great work he has done, though some people criticise him for his increasing taxes. His policies on trade are based on getting a fair deal for the lowest members of society, sometimes at the expense of big business men. Out of all the candidates it is only he who says he will continue his work at the WA, and he also says he will continue his diplomatic works with ODECON. Diplomacy is his ideal method for dealing with international crisis and he is determined to avoid war, though he will use it if the need is there. Furthermore, Parliament will continue to enjoy the benefit of the powers his government have granted to them.

Candidate name: Cardinal Salieri
Party: The Fascist Coalition
Policies: Salieri intends to slowly get rid of the Parliament of Parilisa and replace it with a dictatorship in preparation for the return of the monarchy. As a strongly religious person he intends to rule the country on strictly Christian values, which will involve the illegalisation of divorce, contraception, homosexuality, abortion thei “sins” legal under the current government. He will resign from the WA because he feels it promotes irreligious values and knows it will stand in the way of his dream for Parilisa. ODECON is another alliance he promises to remove the nation from. The media and education will be tightly controlled by his regime and the death penalty will be reintroduced as a punishment for those who stray from the path the Cardinal sets out for them.

Candidate name: Wolfram Kugler
Party: The Conservative Party
Policies: Like Salieri, Kugler intends to remove Parilisa from the WA and illegalize divorce, contraception, homosexuality and abortion. His party is strongly capitalist and has been criticised for allegations of corruption. To Kugler profit is more important than civil rights or work safety, and he intends to improve the economy of the nation and privatise the many state owned industries introduced by the SDLP. Kugler will continue Klein’s work in ODECON, but will defend nationalism rather than internationalism

Candidate name: Steinmann Dexter
Party: The Parilisan Communist Party
Policies: Dexter has made it clear that under his rule the Parliament will remain, but it is likely that only Communist Party Members may be part of it. He intends to nationalise Parilisan industry to a far greater extent than that advocated by the current president. The PCP s renowned for its often violent criticisms and attacks on the owners of capitalist businesses, and he is expected to remove the lands, rights and wealth of businessmen across the nation. He intends to leave ODECON and the WA and will probably pursue a future in a Communist organisation instead.

How do I vote?
OOC: I can’t remember where I’ve seen this done before but I really liked the idea and apologies to the creator for nicking it. Basically, take the number of posts on the NS forums (its there underneath your name, muppet). If you’re an ally of Parilisa double it. This is the number of Parilisan citizens in your nation. Out of these decided how many vote for each party and how many don’t vote. Be realistic; not all the citizens will vote for one party!
Salzland

The Salzland vote would break down (by percentage) to a 53-2-43-2 split, for Klein, Salieri, Kugler and Dexter respectively. Will edit this post with specific vote allocations. Kugler would've been much higher (taking the majority of votes), except for the corruption, outlawing divorce and the Nationalist bend for ODECON support, among other complaints. The non-voting will be drawn from posts I make between now and the end of the election.

(Total votes cast: 1082 posts x 2 = 2,164 votes, votes rounded to the nearest whole vote)

Klein: 53% or 1,147 votes (rounded up)

Salieri: 2% or 43 votes (rounded down)

Kugler: 43% or 931 votes (rounded up)

Dexter: 2% or 43 votes (rounded down)

(OOC: hehe, 834 immigrants to play with hehehehe, oh dear I am evil when it comes to that. No matter, they have been granted special permission to participate in their homelands elections, cos I'm nice that way xD btw, some may have been 'localized' so you may find these results a little... odd)

Nathaniel Klein: 3% - total votes (to the nearest whole number)- 25
Cardinal Salieri: 30% - total votes (to the nearest whole number)- 250
Wolfram Kugler: 66% - total votes (to the nearest whole number)- 550

Oh, and Par, just to make this easy for you, the current breakdown (with DI's pop corrected) is:

Klein: 4385 votes
Salieri: 1719 votes
Kugler: 2873 votes
Dexter: 225 votes (lolreds)
Santheres
14-03-2009, 01:58
864 Parilisan expats in Santheres voted overwhelmingly in favor of Nathaniel Klein of the Social Democratic Liberal party.

The final tallied vote showed Klein won in Santheres with 83% of the vote (717), with Steinmann Dexter coming in second with 10% (86). Kugler and Salieri split the remaining difference, with 31 and 30 votes respectively.

Santherese officials overseeing the process said it was no great surprise, as exceptionally conservative or fascist elements in society simply cannot find a foothold in Santheres and would find themselves at odds with society as a whole. The communist party found greater support for some of the candidate's beliefs, though some experts suggest that these ethnic Parilisans may be too detached from Parilisan society and have lost their taste for and understanding of the party system of politics.

A minor protest by fascist supporters outside of the polling station in Soleil, Marquessa was broken up by the gendarme, resulting in three arrests after some refused to leave and one threatened a voter leaving the station.

OOC: With Santheres I make it:
Klein: 5102

Kugler: 2904

Voting ends as soon as I check this thread tomorrow. Like Kereptica says it looks set to be a victory for Klein, just as I would hope!

In addition to his majority vote from the international community of Parilisan citizens, Klein won an huge proportion of the vote in Parilisa. He will be sworn in in July.
