Terraficial Blanc

(OOC: anyone, feel free to jump in in whatever way you can think of)
If you go on with this nuclear arms race, all you are going to do is make the rubble bounce.
~Winston Churchill
Military base near Northern Besuan Mountains, TBN
The bunker was a merely a medium sized room, made small by the machinery that took up most of the space but now, on this day Some of the most important military figures in Terraficial Blanc North, along with the new General Secretary Vito Taddeo were gathered and watched the screen attentively. What they were about to do was something neither of the Terraficial Blancs had done before.
“You ready for this comrade?”
General Secretary Taddeo nodded slowly, is heart was racing with nerves, what he was doing here was something big and if the South ever found out, well, he did not want to think about it.
“Ready as ever”
“You sure you want to go through with it?”
He hesitated, looking at the defence commissar and for a moment considered calling the whole thing off, but no. They had spent so much and everything was in place, he took a breath to steady his nerves.
“Do it”
“All right” The commissar turned his attention to the controls, everyone else turned their attention back to the screen which showed a small valley deep in the heart of the Northern section of the Besuan Mountain range. For a moment as they watched nothing happened, then the mountain broke, they only saw smoke and rubble before the display cut off abruptly and was replaced with static. There was a stunned silence in the room, that was not supposed to happen.
“Shit. Shit shit shitshit!” The commissar sprung to his feet
“What happened?”
“They miscalculated! The explosion was far stronger then they thought it would be, it wasn't contained! This was supposed to be an underground test!” He ran out of the bunker grabbing a pair of binoculars as he did so and looked towards the mountain range, the others following at a jog. The binoculars were not necessary, even though they were on the very edge of the mountain range they could see the great cloud rising over the mountains, small because of distance but so obviously, so painfully present. There would be fallout, if they were unlucky it may make it's way into rivers but that was not their biggest concern at the moment. Their main concern was how would the South react, if the predictions had been correct the test should have been completely contained within the mountain but now....

Caligari was in an unusually good mood, it had been a good week on the whole, the North had been unusually quiet, he expected they were still mourning the death of their 'general secretary'. He hummed a tune as he went over some paperwork that needed attending to not knowing that in a matter of seconds his good mood would vanish as if it had never been.
“Sir, Zanetti is requesting a teleconference, he says it is urgent”
“Hmmm, what? Oh, put him through then” He turned to face the screen where the image of his defence minister had just appeared
“Yes?” he enquired cautiously, taking note of the ministers pale face “what happened?”
The minister seemed to struggle for words for a moment but when he found his voice the words he spoke made Caligari freeze in his place
“The North... Just before... we suspect a nuclear bomb”
“They launched one here!?” He was dumbstruck, no way was that possible, yes they had launched missiles over the border before, and had paid dearly, but nuclear? They didn't even have nuclear weapons!
“No, Not at us”
Caligari visibly relaxed
“At whom?”
“Noone, it was a test”
“A test?”
“Yes, in the mountains, Sir, This is a flagrant challenge, they are making a statement, they are claiming that they are better than us”
Caligari tapped his fingers on his desk, challenge or not, the fact the North even had nuclear weapons was worrying, especially when they themselves did not, well, not complete anyway.
“How is our own project going?”
“That is what I wanted to ask, We think we should be able to test it, if you would give us permission we can show those commie bastards that whatever they can do we can counter”
“Indeed, permission granted”
“The test will be conducted within the next few hours”
“So soon?” He was shocked, he expected it would have taken much longer to prepare for a nuclear test
“Yessir, we took the liberty a few weeks ago to prepare a test sight we were going to ask about whether or not to actually conduct the test but it seems immaterial now the Northerners have gone first”
Caligari shook his head, he did not know whether to be annoyed at the fact all this had been planned without keeping him informed or glad at their efficiency...

A tiny Island owned by TBS about 130 miles away from the mainland
No-one knew why TBS had laid claim to this island, it was too small to be of any real use, never the less they kept it and now it was to be out to some sort of use, well, not the island itself, but the TBS owned waters that lay around it.
It was a calm day nothing out of the ordinary for the few miscellaneous seagulls and whatnot that inhabited the tiny island, they lived an undisturbed life, no human contact at all really all that would change however and for the duration of their now drastically shortened lives they would feel the full force of what evil humans could invent. Far away from what would soon become an aquatic hell zone someone gave the order. For a moment all was still then the water erupted upwards spreading out in a great, boiling wave that engulfed everything in its path....
