Mr. Smith Goes To Gesford

Blackhelm Confederacy
06-03-2009, 05:50
Marcellus Smith, a low level Confederate diplomat, was only given the position of Ambassador to Gesford a half hour before he boarded the plane set for that very country. Gaius Redpepper, the Vice Chancellor of the Confederacy, had taken the Gesfordian representatives invitation as an excuse to send over a diplomat, who would hopefully find out more about the peculiar little spec of earth known as Gesford. Marcellus left with a small entourage of men, and was now nearing Gesfordian airspace.

"Gesford Tower, this is Confederate Flight 10-24 carrying Ambassador Smith, requesting permission to land"

Aboard the plane, the ambassador and his staff were reviewing the questions that they had writen up, and were rather eager to see just what this country looked like and find out more about the inner workings of such a strange society.

He just hoped that the surprise visit would be welcome.

"Gesford Tower, this is Confederate Flight 10-24 carrying Ambassador Smith, requesting permission to land"

"Confederate 10-24, this is Malleovic central airsec control, you are not listed, we are sending two escorts to direct you to an airbase at marker seven. Do not deviate."

Minutes later, two grey aircraft almost 20 meters long and 15 meters wide climbed to flank the Confederate aircraft. Each bore this insignia on their wings:

[OOC: Your aircraft is being directed to a military airbase in a secure unpopulated region of the country. Further direction is unnecessary, just follow the birds and radio the tower for clearance when you want to land at the airbase]

Across the country, Volunteer Controller Edward Welter received a telephone call at his desk. He removed his spectacles and picked up the receiver. "Welter." On the other end of the line was General Steven Mayhew, Malleovic's Head of Air Security.

"Mr. Welter, this is Gen. Mayhew, airsec head."

"I know who you are, General. Talk to me."

"Sir, approximately twenty minutes ago long range detection registered a small diplomatic aircraft approaching Gesfan airspace. We've redirected to one of a secure airbase and we provided escorts. "

"Origin?"

"Blackhelm Confederacy."

"Proceed according to protocol, I'll make the proper arrangements. That will be all, General."

"Affirmative, sir."

Welter hung up the phone, waited twelve seconds, and picked up the receiver again and pushed the button to connect with his secretary. "Mr. Ryle, get Mr. Michter, foreign office. I'll need to speak to him ASAP."

Welter hung up again, and looked out the window at midday Rapture business activity. Markets had picked up slower than usual today, never a good sign. Foreshadowing? Welter perished the thought as his phone rang again. He turned back to his desk and picked up the reciever. "Send him in." Christian Michter opened the door and stepped into the office, closing the door upon entry. "Please sit down, Chris. I need you to fill me in on every detail from your conference with the CA delegates."

"Certainly, Mr. Welter. Anything I should know?"

"They've decided to send a surprise visitor."

The pilot followed the two Gesfan aircraft to the military airport, and once in the area, radioed the tower for clearance.

Aboard the plane, Ambassador Smith was a little shaky, and he looked nervously at his staff. Claudius Coldwell, the head of security for this fact finding mission, assured the ambassador of his safety, and reminded him that the Confederate military would mobilize should any breach of international protocol take place.

Very soon, Marcellus would be meeting with a Gesfan, and his job would start.
