Background:
Wishing to maintain the MBT140 as a legitimate and practical option for users facing top of the line MBTs, NPS started work on an upgrade as soon as the first MBT140s came off production lines.
The MBT140A1 is superior in several areas to the MBT140. It carries a more potent 50 calibers long main gun, better protection around the turret, and other improvements.
Note: The A1 is a direct development of the MBT140, you should read this:http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=585063 before making a decision to purchase.
MBT140A1:

Weight: 89 metric tons combat ready.
Length: 10.2 meters gun forward
Width: 4 meters
Height: 2.9 meters (without commander’s weapon station)
Armor: Composite, NERA
Primary armament: 140mm smooth-bore Electro-thermal Chemical gun
Coaxial armament: 2X7.62 Machineguns, 40mm Protecta AGL
Commander armament: 12.7mm Machinegun in a remotely operated weapons station
Close range armaments: 16 80mm grenade launchers
Ammunition storage: 40X140mm (Including “Gladiator” GLATGMs), 12000X7.6, 1000X12.7mm, 200X40mm, 48X80mm grenades
Engine: 2300hp (1700kw), Twin Turbo-Charged, Multi-Fuel.
Power to weight ratio: 25.8hp/ton
Suspension: Helical-Springs
Fuel Capacity: 2200 liters, +420 liters in jettison tanks.
Operational range: 490 kilometers with jettison tanks.
Speed: 72km/h on road, 52km/h off-road
Armament:
The A1 version has several differences from the original MBT140:
A) A new, 140mm ETC 50 calibers (700cm) long main gun, assuring penetration of targets at contact ranges.
B) The “Gladiator” GLATGM was developed for this gun. It is a 140mm, fire and forget, tandem ATGM with an 8 km range. Specifications for the “Gladiator” are attached at the end of this document.
C) A 40X53mm Protecta Automatic Grenade Launcher is mounted above the main gun and acts as a second coaxial weapon. This allows engagement of infantry and light AFVs at longer ranges and with higher lethality than the 2X7.62mm coaxial.
D) The 80mm close range grenade system is now incorporated into the armor plates in the front of the turret.
Fire Control and Observation:
The A1 has the following improvements compared to the original:
The FCS elements needed to fire GLATGMs are now incorporated. ATGMs can be fired by the main gun and controlled from the gunner or commanders interfaces. The very high position of the commanders sights means that the tank can fire the ATGM without a LOS from the gun to the target.
The driver now has rear facing TI camera to enable driving forward with higher accuracy, night and day.
Protection and survivability:
The turret armor on the MBT140A1 has been redesigned. Most of the added armor is spaced, but there is still around 4 tons of added passive and NERA. Specific attention has been placed on upgrading the turret-top armor.
Auxiliary Power Unit:
The MBT140A1 has a small auxiliary power unit that can provide power to all systems while the tank is stationary. The advantages of this setup are a reduced thermal signature when static, reduced noise levels, and reduced fuel usage.
Gladiator 140 Gun Launched Anti-Tank Missile:
The Gladiator GLATGM is fired from the main gun like any other 140mm ammunition. The Gladiator locks on to its target by its IR image and vector, and requires no further aiming after the launch(fire and forget). While its penetration figures are not sufficient to penetrate the frontal armor of MBTs, it is a Top-Attack missile, and will easily penetrate the top of any MBT. Gladiator also has a direct attack anti-helicopter mode.
Total weight: 48kg (with cartridge)
Warhead: Tandem HEAT, 8kg
Range: 10.000 Meters.
Speed: 340 Meters per second
Time to maximum range: 30 seconds
Guidance: Electro-Optic IR Homing, Fire and Forget, Top-Attack
Penetration: 1200mm RHA
Cost per unit: 30000 NS$
NOTES:
A)Upgrade costs for older MBT140s to MBT140A1 is 1.25 million NS$
B)The Gladiator GLATGM is also avilable for sale at M.A.C
Unit Price:12.750.000 NS
