The fish washer:
In 2410 the Dominion began looking for environmentally sound alternatives to electric showering and after receiving numerous proposals from the technocracy several projects were given the go ahead and received development funding.
One project involved selectively breeding and genetically manipulating a species of cleaner fish that had the potential to be adapted to clean humans.
The Yellow Swirl Fish already acted as a cleaner fish to a sea going mammal native to Sarrowquand, the Ottoroctavius (also known as the Sarrowquandian squid whale), after four years of development Dominion scientists have succeeded in breeding a Yellow Swirl Fish that will willingly clean human skin of dirt and grime and is immune to skin infections that the original Yellow Swirl Fish could contract from contact with humans.
The project has now entered the final design phase which involves creating specialist salt water bathes that will provide stable habitats for the fish.
The user simply immerses them self in the lukewarm water and after performing a short dance to attract attention is cleaned by the resident fish which eat the dead flakes of skin on the user’s body as well as removing accumulated dirt sweat and grime.
Multi-Corporate is planning to market this product as a new cultural trend across Sarrowquand and also plans to test the waters of the international market in developing fish-washer bathes for overseas sale.
One oversight in the initial project is that the Yellow Swirl Fish does not clean the user’s hair and can be poisoned by some cosmetic products: Research is currently underway to test the fish against existing products and to develop shampoo that will not harm the fish.
In the meantime a separate hair washing bowl is being factored in too the fish washer’s design. There is also talk about further altering the Yellow Swirl Fish so that it is able to deal with hair and to breed fresh water versions of the fish.
One obvious advantage of the Fish Washer is the low amount of maintenance associated; an average user who bathes regularly is able to support 6-7 fish without further supplementing their diet.
