Long has it been since a people have struggled in the way in which they have here. A once proud and powerful nation, the Country of New Logan had been taken down into the depths of depravity thanks to the desperate needs of but a few crazed and malignant government officials. A proud nation whose citizens had served for the greater good and as a result been repaid with the death and destruction of their lives, and country.

But like that fabled Phoenix that rose from the ashes, so too a new Nation has come. After the desolation of New Logan by enemies long forgotten, and with the environment finally recovering from it's eternity of recovery due to it's monumental raping by those enemies, the people are returning from their self imposed exile. Banding together they have become strong enough to stand proud once more and say, "We are Eternus Australis."

Elections are being held and prominent individuals stand ready to take the word of our people to the world. We will have a government that will protect us. Our people will prosper, Our children will have a place to call "home", and we will have a place in which to grow old.

Eternus Australis government official election results

In what appears to be a landslide victory (possibly because no one else has run in opposition yet), the government for Eternus Australis has been decided. The people want their government run by those that "they" collectively want in power. And now the people have it. The development of a workable Constitution that will assist this and future rulers of this land will now become the first priority for Sir Nigel Darby.

Nigel Darby elected as Grand Chancellor, titled (by the people as 1st Knight)
Genevieve De Laon Chancellor of the people, titled as 1st Lady
Otto Von Bossonlager Secretary of State, titled Ritter
Florian De Fecan Minister of Defence, titled Chevalier
Juan Alexander Ramirez Treasury, titled Cabellero
Anastasia Astarte Minister for the Interior, titled Dame
Gomez Diaz De Gamma and Falco St Clare joint heads of Foreign Affairs

As leader of Eternus Australis, Sir Nigel Darby now also becomes commander in chief of the armed forces with guidance from Ritter Otto Von Bossonlager as Secretary of State, Chevalier Florian De Fecan as Minister of Defence and the heads of Foreign Affairs. All major national military decisions are run via the “Court of Chivalry” which contains the above members.

Sir Nigel becomes head of Internal Security with advice given from his Secretary of State and Minister of Internal Affairs Dame Anastasia Astarte. Internal affairs matters go before this “House” for discussion.
Cabellero Juan Alexander Ramirez in Consultation with both the “House” of the interior and the “Court of Chivalry” will attempt to keep the government finances in good order.
Personal Secretary to Sir Nigel Darby for Court of Chivalry matters will be Deakin James and Sir Nigel’s personal secretary shall be Justin Dean.
Lady Genevieve De Laon’s secretaries will be Dione Sage and Emily Rose.
Secretary to Ritter Otto Von Bossonlager will be Darian Connor.
Assistant to the Minister for Defence Chevalier Florian De Fecan will be Garth Evans.
Treasury assistants will be Tania New, Myra Fay and Bronwynn Meyers for Cabellero Juan Alexander Ramirez.
The Minister for the Interior has already announced that her assistants will remain incognito.
The joint heads of Foreign affairs secretaries will be Carly Smyth and Linda Pom.

In a moving speech to the people, the newly elected Sir Nigel Darby has motioned that the first tasks of the Eternus Australis Government shall be the building of Industry and Infrastructure, Commerce and Public Service, an opening of International ties with the world and the building of a strong military and police force for the protection of this land and it's people.

The Kiravian Empire would like to welcome Eternus Australis to the world, and to open up trade and diplomatic relations with this newly sovereign state.

It was late one night and Sir Nigel sat at his desk way later than he had anticipated. He sat perplexed and confused when his cleaner came into his office, with a look of surprise on his face, Jenkins ventured a question, "Are you alright there Sir? I'm sorry for interrupting, I can return later if you so desire?"
It took a long while for the questions to register with the newly elected ruler of Eternus Australis. Not that he was ignoring his cleaner, but more from the depths of his own imaginations.
"Oh, I'm sorry, it's my own fault for still being here I guess. Jenkins right? I have been held up here, come in and sit down for a moment." Sir Nigel gestured to the chair opposite him at his desk. Jenkins had never thought this possible. He had seen his Nations ruler on TV and at rallies and found him to be a very inspirational and just ruler, but never thought he would actually be in this office at the same time as he would actually be here. He moved cautiously and sat down, "here Sir?", he stammered as he sat down.
"Yes Jenkins, that will be fine, I have a question for you." The cleaner was glad that Sir Nigel had hardly looked up from the papers on his desk since he had stumbled in, for he was sure that had the ruler seen the look of astonishment on his face, he surely would have been booted out by the as yet unseen security personnel Jenkins new were watching. Once more he managed to vocalize a, "yyes, Sir?" Becoming more nervous as the moments went on.
"Do you feel that the opening of our borders to the International Community is a viable option for a Nation as small as ours considering the history we went through before the demise of New Logan?"
Jenkins sat there aghast. Had the one man in charge of his entire country just asked him his opinion on something of National importance? ...

..."wwwwell, Sir, I don't quite know how to answer that." Jenkins was exceptionally overwhelmed by the question, and quite unsure of how to reply. Could the wrong answer get him shot? Or worse? Believing honesty to be the best policy, Jenkins just opened his mouth and let it flow.
"I think there may be a couple of different ways that could go Sir." Honesty, but playing the diplomat (even though he wasn't one) kept him alive.
"You see Jenkins, that's what I like, honesty. That's why asked someone that's out there with the people and someone that I hope has had similar experiences to myself with regards to the downfall of New Logan and what once was and what I hope we all believe will not be again."
"Well Sir, that's why the people want you where you are", Jenkins realized that came out far more 'greasy' than he had intended it to be, but he carried on none the less.
"No one wants what happened to this Nation or it's people to ever happen again. International relations could be a good thing, because it may help to keep those that are in charge, where they are supposed to be, but also doing what it is they are supposed to be doing." The cleaner felt his insides clench, waiting for the repercussions of what he just said, but figured if he glanced over the subject as quick as possible, he could get back to doing his job without any kind of 'harm' coming to himself.
"The down side Sir, is that it will expose this Nation to the world and how poorly set up it is with regards to International affairs and even simple things like self defense. Basically Sir it means we expose how weak we are." The words came out this time before he could check himself and Jenkins knew this would get the leaders attention and the possibility of some kind of serious reprimand.
"Perfect! Exactly what I've been thinking about!" Sir Nigel was glad to see someone was on his page, cleaner or not, he knew Jenkins had a head on his shoulders. "You see, I've been thinking of opening ties with other Nations and an idea to build a city expressly for other National Emissaries and their retinues. A city that can act as our 'Portal' to the world. A place that can be built by us, therefore creating jobs, defended by us, again military and law enforcement jobs will be created, an entire new system can be structured here. I've already been contacted by the Kiravian Empire and a representative from Asiom about diplomatic and possible Trade ties. What do you think?"
Jenkins was relieved to basically hear that the ruler of his Nation wasn't going to kill him, but then realized the opportunities of which this man spoke. He considered them carefully and replied in just as cautious a manner.
"I would suggest caution and discussion with these Nations first. Your plans sound viable Sir, and even achievable. I would suggest starting small and see what happens."
"Jenkins, for a cleaner (the ruler gave a quirky smile to Jenkins), you are a wise man. Thank You for your assistance, and I will certainly take what you have said some serious thought. Do you often work this late shift here?"
The last question, once more threw Jenkins out. He really appreciated the comment, especially coming from someone so admired among his countrymen. Especially also considering that Jenkins was rather small and round in stature, slightly balding and getting on in years and not too used to having anyone asking him of his opinion, let alone actually listening to it. His wife is never going to believe this ever happened, so he decided to answer as respectfully and as quickly as he could so he could return to his duties.
"Yes Sir and thank you too Sir, ummm, yes, I am rostered to be here at this time 3 nights a week. If you don't mind, Sir", Jenkins motioned to the door where his cleaning cart had been sitting idle.
"Oh, I'm sorry, yes of course, I've been holding you up. Don't worry, the security cameras in this room have detected your presence, I've been contacted by security 3 times since we've been sitting here (the knight motioned to the monitor in front of him that Jenkins couldn't see the front of) and if there are any issues with your superiors, they will be dealt with by my office." Sir Nigel again gave this strange smile that indicated to the cleaner that he need not be concerned about losing his job, yet.
"Thank you again Sir." Jenkins stood up and started towards the door.
"No Jenkins thank you, I'll see you again in a couple of nights then." Sir Nigel gave a massive grin the cleaner could not see. He noticed the cleaner pause as he was walking towards the door when he heard what the Knight had said and new his message had gotten through. Sir Nigel knew he would have to be working some long and strange hours to make this plan of his come to fruition, but was glad that it sounded like the people would support him with it. He wanted to talk with the cleaner again some other time.
He typed a quick note on his PC, "Organize meeting with Gomez Diaz De Gamma and Falco St Clare joint heads of Foreign Affairs for contact with Trimac Ghis, Supreme Premier Diplomat of Foreign Affairs, (SPDA of Asiom) and the Imperial Secriat of State Emerging Nations Office for the Kiravian Empire. Meeting for Trade and Diplomatic ties."

(OOC Note: Really should be mentioned, and my posts will be modified to suit, that Eternus Australis is Current Modern Tech, not FT. So if any Nations want to RP they should be MT aswell. Asiom and Kiravian, I haven't checked your nations yet, but if you are FT I will remove you from my posts (you can let me know OOC if you like), otherwise they will remain as they are. :) oh, and for those of you watching the development of this Nation, a new thread called "Eternus Diplomacy" will be started for the next stage of this Nation. All Trade, Military and Diplomatic applications would best be made when I start that thread :) )

It was the day after his little talk with Jenkins the cleaner, and Sir Nigel was feeling vibrant and refreshed as a result of it. As soon as he stepped into his office, his assistants began with their usual list of things to do and he basically and almost blissfully ignored everything they said and was thinking about his meeting with his Foreign Affairs ministers and their aids. Something his assistants knew nothing about, as yet.

"Sir, Sir, SIR!" Both Justin and Deakin had become quite insistent since their boss was obviously not listening to a word that either of them had said since he sat down.
"Oh, oh, I'm so sorry." Nigel just realized he was rather distant and must have seemed rather rude to his two must trusted employees in his entire government. "I was far off thinking about something I must do today."
"Sir, that's why we're here, to help you and inform you of what needs to be done." Justin could be very persuasive, but he also knew his place and could tell his boss was up to something. "We, and our Nation need you focused and on the ball at all times. You know this from previous and personal experience." Justin liked to remind his boss that even though he was a lot younger than him, he could think on his feet and was there at any time and for practically anything.
"Yes I know this Justin. Both you and Deakin are very important to me and I know I wouldn't be here without either of you, but", he paused, but hoped they wouldn't notice it, but it was too late.
"But what Sir?" Deakin was the youngest of them, but the most astute. He could pick up on and see things most others couldn't in general conversation.
"Well, in my opening address to the Nation after being given this great duty by the people, I mentioned the construction of armed forces and police staff and the opening of this Nation to International Affairs. I have been contemplating these issues and haven't really come up with a solution. After talking and thinking about it, I believe I have part of the answer and need to organize a series of meetings. I need you both to schedule firstly a meeting with the "Court of Chivalry" and secondly, Deakin, I need you to start searching for National and International Companies that we can put out a tender for domestic police and military supplies with. No questions at this stage, I'm still kind of thinking out loud on this, but we really need to get ourselves moving."

There was an almost immediate and combined "Yes Sir" from both of them as they turned on their heels to begin what they both realized was going to be a very long day indeed. Sir Nigel was glad he chose these two, highly motivated and efficient, he knew these guys wouldn't let him down.

In less than a quarter of an hour they both re-emerged with the entire day re-planned with meetings of government officials and contacts for local arms producers. Deakin said he would need a little more time to contact overseas arms dealers, but also mentioned that he'd like the input from the Court of Chivalry before proceeding any further with those calls.

"I knew it", thought Nigel. I'm glad I have these guys on side, time to convince the Court of Chivalry.

It appears to us that the nation of Eternus Australis has endured a great deal of hardship at the hands of corruption, war, and countless other trials. We would like to extend a hand of diplomacy to your beleaguered nation and recognize your country as a sovereign entity. May your nation last forever.

Justin lead Sir Nigel through the corridors trying to find out about this plan his leader had mentioned to him. He wanted at least a little background information so he could support his leader if required before heading into this Court of Chivalry meeting. Justin knew that Gomez, Otto and Florian wouldn't be a problem, but the old war dog St Clare could buck at any moment and to the smallest of things and was most stubborn once his mind was set. A true asset to this government, but sometimes Justin quietly questioned to himself if it was wise of his leader to put this man in a Foreign Affairs position. They were late which didn't help matters either. St Clare considered himself a busy man and didn't like to have his routine disturbed for meetings and the like.

Justin knew he would be on edge right from the start, but also knew Nigel liked to be a little late with most things. It got his target audience a little on edge and tended to give him a slight element of surprise, because people didn't know exactly when he was going to be there, and it gives him the option of really surprising them by turning up early on occasion.

They were about to enter the cabinet room when Nigel touched Justin on the arm to slow him up bit, "Justin, you know St Clare will be on edge right? But I really need his support on this. He will prove himself an asset on what I am planning to do, but I need him onside, so please play nice." Justin suddenly remembered that Nigel also knew there was bad blood between himself and St Clare. Although the two had managed to keep themselves at relative peace for a long time for matters of National importance, it sometimes shone through. Once more it was Sir Nigel's timing that lead him to the situation of having to separate the two of them when they were in the armed forces of New Logan many years ago and attempting to settle an argument over the correct way to dispose of insurgents in a particular town. Justin thought that for Nigel to mention this to him, what he wanted to do must have been very important.

Is this Nation Building?

After extensive "Court of Chivalry" meetings an announcement has been made. In a detailed press release the government has outlined a number of new proposals and changes to the old militia system of defense we had in place. International communication will begin and apparently contact has already been made from a number of notable Nations within our region and externally.

Local Industry leaders have been contracted and the construction of a New "Free Company" of Eternus Australis will be formed. The protection of this Nation and it's people will come from this force and will consist of Land, Sea and Airborne units with locally and Internationally sourced equipment.

There is going to be built a yet to be named new Capital for this government and another city purely for housing and protecting International Ambassadors. The locations and names of these places have yet to be released, but it is believed that Sir Nigel wishes to hold a competition amongst those Nations wishing to set up embassies in this city to name it. The city is currently being planned and the rules for Nations and their ambassadors has not yet been released, but it is believed that the winner of this competition will not only get to give this location it's name, but also the choice of location of their residence within this City.

Both Gomez Diaz De Gamma and Falco St Clare joint heads of Foreign Affairs have stepped up in support of this plan and will be taking offers of diplomatic support and competition entries. They would not venture to disclose the proposed location of our New capital, but did hint that this new diplomatic city would be located to the North of our great country closest to where it seems the majority of our Nations International traffic will enter.

(OOC Note: for those of you curious, I will set up a web page with a map of Eternus Australis on it. New Logan used to be the same location as RL Australia, only I decided to place it on the world map upside down. I would appreciate the ideas and feedback on this before I continue with the cartography and city designs)
