Nehrlandi Royal Navy Established.
By Petya Tukroyavkov
NNBC: Early today, President William Henry Pferinger Elkins announced that the first official branch of the Nehrlandi Royal Armed Forces would be established, the Royal Nehrlandi Navy, or RNN. The Royal Nehrlandi Navy will be consisted of trained volunteers as well as professional trained soldiers. The fleet will consist of multiple types of modern naval vessels, these vessels will be procured from multiple different corporations as well as being built in shipyards around Nehrland. The vessels are expected to be of a NATO Origin, meaning that all the ships will have compatible weapons with one another, decreasing the logistical need which has troubled many great navies in the past, this weapon standardization will also be carried over into the other branches of the military, meaning that the overall cost of the Armed Forces of Nehrland will be lower than expected due to the lack of a need to produce many kinds of weapons. An estimated one hundred and sixty billion dollars over ten years will be spent just procuring new vessels. This spending will result in a 3% tax increase, but will overall benefit the Republic Of Nehrland as it would allow the government to protect fishing claims and shipping routes in Nehrlandi waters, this in turn would increase income and trade, benefiting both Nehrland and it's trading partners.
While President William Henry Pferinger Elkins showed interest in possibly establishing both a Nehrlandi Royal Air Force, NRAF, and a Nehrlandi Royal Army, NRA, he said that he had no comment on the matter at the time. When we interviewed Secretary Of Defense Alexander Rickard, he said that, "The Royal Navy is our passageway to the future, it has already opened doors for our future, and will continue to open doors, widening our military capabilities in the present, and in the future." When he was asked about possibly establishing other Armed Forces Branches he stated, "This would be of great interest to the people of Nehrland, as it would increase our defense capabilities from a rag-tag group of militiamen to a well trained, well funded, armed forces that could spread Nehrlandi influence throughout the world."

The Royal Navy Base was a small collection of brick buildings overlooking the port in Tuk. The buildings were build months prior to the official establishment of the Royal Nehrlandi Navy, but were built for the purpose of teaching the young recruits everything from basic seafaring to operating the weapons systems to repairing the electronics on the ships. Two new Kingston Class Coastal Defense Vessels sat in the port, they were ready for their maiden voyages as ships of the Royal Nehrlandi Navy. The crewmen were looking forward to setting foot on the pair of new vessels, for some of them, being a sailor had been a dream for a majority of their life. Such was the case with Lieutenant George Robert Patterson, he was born in the early 1980's, the son of a poor Inuit couple, he had spotted ships on the horizon when he was a young boy and always vowed that one day he would live on a ship, just as grand, or maybe even more elegant than the ships he dreamed about day and night. He was around 5'11" tall and had bright fire-red hair, because of this, and his tendancy to lose his temper very easily, his friends had always called him "Hothead."
When he was in his young twenties, he moved into Tuk to find a better life, he disliked following herds of migrating caribou and building igloos in freezing, snowy, and windy conditions. He always pictured the life of a sailor as being filled with singing songs, drinking vodka, and playing cards. Never in his life would he have assumed it was filled with back-breaking labor such as stocking the ship with supplies for the next voyage, or navigating tossing and turning seas. The life of a sailor was bound to "bite him in the ass" sooner or later when he would realize that being a sailor would not be all fun and games, but rather patrolling lonely, frigid, dark arctic seas days on end, all without the ability to contact his family and friends back in Tuk and in his parent's Inuit village.
In training, every man was given a brand new M16A4 Assault Rife and a Browning Hi-Power 9mm Pistol, their instructor told them that these weapons would be "Their babies in situations where boarding ships would be necessary," they were told to clean the weapons whenever they had the time to clean them, and to "Keep them spotless so that the weapons may function ideally in combat situations."

The Kingston Class vessel they were sailing on, the HMNS Polar Dawn was cruising at 15 vessels over five foot seas. As the Polar Dawn crashed through each wave, a white froth exploded out to the sides of the bow. The captain of the Polar Dawn was a short, fat man in his early 40's, he had a short gray beard and short gray hair with a small bald spot on the back of his head. "Two-thirds power, bearing two-three-zero," He commanded, and the ship turned to port as the engines increased in pitch. They were on a new bearing south-west, back toward Tuk. They were on a patrolling mission to search for illegal vessels in Nehrlandi waters, so far they had not had contact with any vessels in the last 48 hours.
As they steamed along, they came across a small fishing trawler, the vessel appeared as though it had not seen fresh paint in ages, as there was a thick layer of rust on the hull of the ship, the cranes on the deck appeared as they had not worked in ages. The captain spoke over the speaker system on the Polar Dawn, "Heave to and prepare to be boarded, this is the HMNS Polar Dawn."
