The Holy Empire of Khorosha is a proud state, established in 452 A.D.
The first settlers were immigrants leaving their home nation in an effort to establish a homeland in which they weren't an oppressed religious minority. After finding a medium sized freshwater lake fed by a spring able to supply drinking water in the parched desert, the settlers built a fortress into the side of a dry, rocky hill. Soon other immigrants arrived, and the population swelled.
The Patriarchate of Khorosha was established in 491 A.D., some 39 years after the state had been settled, and the dreams of the founding population had been realized. The reigning monarch, Emperor Trestian the Great, proclaimed the independence and sovereignity of The Holy Empire of Khorosha and issued a decree calling for all followers of the divine faith of Khoroshan Orthodoxy to immigrate. Unfortunately, the prosperity was not to be long lived, as this second wave of settlers led to conflict with the surrounding nations and ultimately a war in which Khorosha suffered great losses to both population and infrastructure.
The next few decades was a time of recovery and rebuilding, and is still known in Korosha as 'The Age of Overcoming.' Universities were founded, military acadamies were built in each of the three major cities, cathedrals and churches were built of strong stone and beautifully decorated, and damaged roads and aquaducts were rebuilt, in many cases to be better than they had been originally. The hawkish Trestian had died without an heir, and by Khoroshan law the crown passed to the Patriarch, Yurus IV.
Yurus was an aged but capable leader who understood the dangers of a single man serving as the two most powerful positions in Khorosha, and after only a few months as Emperor abdicated in favour of his teenage nephew, Grecius, who would lead the nation for 55 years. At the end of those peaceful years of status quo, a disaster would strike. A plague accompanied a new group of settlers, and despite efforts at a quarantine, nearly half of the population died or fled the nation. The Holy Empire crumbled and fell into disrepair until recently.
The descendents of those who chose to stay behind after the plague have grown in number and strength, and are once again repairing the ancient buildings which fell into disuse. A new emperor, claiming direct descent from Grecius, has rose to the throne through the help of the Patriarch, and despite his advanced age (73 years old) pledges to restore Khorosha to the nation it once was, or rather, the nation it once wished to be.
