America Shattered RP (OOC/Interest/OPEN)

Hey everybody, just here to gauge the interest level for a new RP I thought of, regarding the United States of America and a possible situation in the near future of states succeeding from the Union. It's basically based off of a few things, such as the American Civil War RP that a few of us participated in a long time ago, as well as the video game Shattered Union and the Supreme Ruler 20-- series of video games by Battlegoat.

So, in general, this is RP revolves around the idea that all 50 states have left the US, dissolving it and all it's acqused corruption and power-players after some disagreements regard various world issues and the fact that many believe the US Government had lost touch with the people. However, this couldn't come at a worse time. The world economy is in shambles and barely a stone's throw away from collapse. It is this sudden and unexpected dissolution of the US that pushes it over. Furthermore, around the globe, similar powerplayer and "superpower" countries are experiencing similar dissolutions, although the majority of which are able to retain their autonomy. The European Union, having seen a slight decline in power and membership in the early 2000's, is suddenly thrust onto the world stage and adopts overly aggressive stances toward the struggling world, going so far as outright threatening and invading countries that refuse or ignore invitations to join. Meanwhile, foreign oil prices continue to rise amid world financial trouble and increasing tension, having shot up nearly 7 dollars in the stretch between 2009 and 2010, to an astronomical $9 dollars per gallon. Back in the US, riots and mob rule run rampant as police and law enforcement are all but abandoned after weeks of endless rioting and mob rule, resulting in many urban city centers such as Los Angeles and New York to be turned into charred, firebombed warzones, with occasional battles amid the streets between rogue citizens and remaining national guard. At night, life is a whole different story. One wouldn't even venture outside of his house, tent, apartment, or even car unless he had a death wish.

So, I'm thinking about taking this in one of a few ways. First off, letting each player choose and lead a state (with the possible inclusion of a few Canadian provinces), keep everything centered in one city and let players play an actually character, or perhaps a combination of both. Feel free to tell me what you think ,with any suggestions. If I get enough interest, I'll create another thread for sign-ups that isn't idea generation.

Is this off site? BEcause the mods will be coming otherwise.

OOC: It likely will if it's with the states. If it's with characters, I haven't decided.

At 101st para, this is not alternate history, I don't think. This isn't saying, you are the leader of the Confederate states, and I will be Abraham Lincoln. No, I think this is ok.

I would be interested in this btw.

OOC: At the rate the US is going though, this scenario could soon be history.

Alright. Yea, I was trying to determine if it fell within the rule. It may be too subjective a topic though to where it may need to be based elsewhere.

I would recommend that you keep this off site as it is much easier to manage. I am interested, of course.

I played a variant on that where people claimed not states but metro areas, which was interesting.

either way(character or national/stateal?), sounds interesting

Good to know everybody.

New Brittonia. Metro Areas? How'd that work, lol? Sounds like a recipe for one hell of a game, lol.

OCC: Sounds very intresting. If I may (and if it goes through) I might join, especially if it turns out to be on site. Perhaps as a European Union ambassador?

Possibly. Nothing's really off limits right now. I may run two different RPs at two different times, but each within the same timeline and "universe," perhaps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_metro_area

Metro areas, the area around a city including its satellite cities and suburbs. If you would do this I would recommend that you do it so that your group of counties does not exceed ... say 3 million people so if you take LA and someone else takes New York, the entire game is not screwed.

Also I am contemplating either my native DC or make an Islamic republic around Detroit.

No, lol. I know what a Metro Area is, lol. I live in the Phoenix Metro Area. I hear the term all the time, lol. Now that sounds like it might be too centered with only a few players though. Don't think I'll get that in depth, to go with metro areas and "city-states" yet, although that might be worth looking into possibly in the future.

So are you gonna do one state per or are you gonna do a points based system or what?
Falkasia
22-02-2009, 04:54
Probably one State per for right now. A points system is never perfect, and someone always feels that they got hozed somehow.

Maryland or Michigan... damn, although an Islamic Republic would be more interesting...

I've also be wrestling whether to make DC it's own little subordinate "state," since it technically belongs to no other state.
New Brittonia
22-02-2009, 05:26
Make DC its own state and make PR and you might as well do the other territories as well (Guam, USVI, NMI, etc...)
Falkasia
22-02-2009, 16:52
Yea, probably, but with all the action going on in the mainland, most wouldn't want to play a territory or Hawaii for that matter.

49 of them aren't. Brittonia has DC, 101 has Michigan. I'm either taking Texas or Arizona.

When It says RP nation name, what does that mean?

If you plan on calling it anything, like The Republic of New York? I'll just take that out then, lol.

Just to Clarify, so it starts of with all the states in chaous, and then someone (The Leader) comes onto the scene and turns it round?
Falkasia
22-02-2009, 17:36
Yep, or at least in your state that's what happens. States still have their governments, but the people in the streets are in chaos.

It won't be illegal if it in a present setting, but if it has to do with an altered past then it would illegal.

Yea. Pretty much. If you want to do something, it must be within the storyline I created. Altering the past affects the future in ways we can only barely begin to comprehend.

Well can I do a DC-NOVA-MD mix to really have the perfect demos for my nation?
Falkasia
22-02-2009, 21:58
What is NOVA and MD? If MD is Maryland, and you want both, then sure. You can have DC and the rest of the state. Just what is NOVA though?
