The Mountains inland rise to average heights of 900 meters, the highest one is Mt. Tall, which rises to a peak height of 1340 meters. From the mountaintops streams flow down and converge to wide rivers that flow through fertile valleys.
Vegetation: While the narrow coastal strip is windy and therefore only dotted by shrubs and bushes, the mountains are forested. In the valleys between the mountains there is very fertile land, covered in grass and flowers.
Wildlife: Nachmeres coastal plain has an abundance of smaller mammals and birds. Seagulls live in the cliffs and although rarer so do Falcons and Eagles of various types. In the mountain areas live many types of larger game animals, such as Deer, Wild Goats, and Wild Boars. There are small populations of Wolves, and even some bears. The most common predator is the Fox. These small and cunning animals are protected by law, and live off smaller animals like Rabbits and small rodents. Nachmere has very little snakes, but tortoises and small lizards are common.

Economy:
General: The Nachmere economy is still largely agricultural, largely based on the trade of its famous cheeses. There are government plans to introduce new industries, but these are progressing slowly due to ecological and other issues. There is also large economical growth in the retail and food services fields.

GDP per Capita: 28,300 $

History and Government:
Remote and mountainous, the land area of Nachmere was disorganized throughout history. In the 1400s it was united under the rule of the Ginger Dynasty, a family of powerful mountain chieftains. The Gingers ruled as all powerful kings until the latter half of the 20th century, when they were faced with pressure for reform by the intellectual elite of the coastal cities. The Gingers agreed to release some of their powers to a parliament in 1978. A power struggle between the Parliament and the Royal house soon evolved, which ended in the king’s assassination. After 3 years of general confusion and power struggles the Social-Democratic party gained the upper hand and assumed power calling other parties to join it. As a result the country is ruled by a coalition of the Social-Democrats and the Moderate-Nationalists. The head of state is the Prime-Minister, who is head of the largest party in parliament (as elected by the people). A new constitution is being formed by all political parties.

Military:
General: As is made clear by its name The Armed Republic of Nachmere keeps a well trained military force. The armed forces were not restructured after the change of regimes in 2007, though cosmetic changes in unit names and uniforms were made. The military is comprised of a small core of professional soldiers, with the remainder of personnel being conscripted by mandatory service. Conscripts (male and female) serve for 2 years, gaining the skills needed for mountain warfare, and then released from service but kept on reserve. Reservists are organized in local units, built around a town or group of towns.
Man power: ~ 150,000 in active duties, most of which are conscripts. ~450,000 more available in reserves.
Military expenditure: 4.5% of GDP
Branches:
Land Forces: As noted above, most of the Nachmerian land force comprises of mountain infantry. These are small independent battalions- heavy on snipers, mortars, and combat engineers. In case of invasion these forces are expected to fight a long attrition based guerrilla war. There are however several Mechanized mainly equipped with light tanks and ATGM carrying 4WD vehicles.
The “Parliamentary Guard” is the only special operations type force. It is equipped with helicopters, high tech surveillance equipment, and trained to very high standards. The Guard is tasked with responding to terrorist threats and other special assignments.
Air Force: With only a few hundred aircraft, the Nachmere Air Force is a small, tactical force. Navy: The navy is equipped with several small destroyers and guard boats, as well as 2 submarines. The Navy maintainers its own top secret unit, called SMS-Special Missions Squadron. The only open source information on the unit is that its men are trained for defensive and offensive diving and infantry tactics.
