OOC: International Nuclear Arms Summit

As many of you know, nuclear weapons have become something of an issue in II recently, especially in the case of some of our newer members. The Office of the Volunteer Controller of the Objectivist Region of Gesford has expressed interest in hosting an international summit to discuss these developments and hopefully foster a better understanding between nations who feel strongly about nuclear arms, whether they feel in favor of nuclear weapons as a useful tool in larger foreign and military policy, or they feel strongly against the creation and trade of such weapons in any cases.

The point is to allow our nations to understand each other better, specifically regarding their stances towards nuclear arms. I would like to make it clear that every nation is welcome to participate, and will be given equal time to present its points and present however many counterarguments or concurrences they feel statements made by their fellow nations warrant. This will be very structured so as to not get so confusing, each member taking its allotted time to state its views. There will be a set order to the participants, and speaking out of turn without express permission from the state whose turn is being taken is prohibited.

This will be completely detached from international politics, at least practically. Nations who are at war with each other can expect their delegates to the summit to be completely safe. This will not be a forum for issuing threats or negotiating deals. This is purely for the sake of easing possible tensions in every corner of the debate. All nations are invited, be they nuclear arms traders (no advertising, however), large nations, small nations, capitalist nations, socialist nations, etc. The topic under discussion will be restricted to Nuclear Arms.

Alliances are prohibited from sending pure alliance-delegates. Nations that are part of alliances can send delegates if they wish. This is simply because I do not see alliances as good negotiators on the topic of nuclear policy across all of their member nations. Nations who are members of the same alliance may have differing views about nuclear arms, and they should be able to express these views independent of their alliance.

At the moment, I would like to gauge an interest in how many are willing to participate. If there is enough interest, I will gladly commence this thing.

I can come and support. However, we are only in the stage of blueprints for our nuclear weapons, we have heavy deposits of uranium, we just need to build the weapon. Not to mention the civil war we have right now.

Nothing matters except that you are willing to discuss the issue of nuclear weapons. The only thing you should feel the need to support are your nations beliefs/policies, etc.

How do you plan on doing this as well? How can we do this?

It's a summit. Delegates from the interested nations are RP'd into a pre-approved location and the talks commence. Think of it as an large IC debate, with delegates(or leaders if you really want to send them) discussing the situation and their national interests. A much better form of discussion than nasty letters going back and forth from foreign ministers to foreign ministers that we usually see in nuclear arms disputes.

I reiterate that all are welcome to attend and join in the discussion. This would be a perfect occasion for some of those nations that had arguments relating to nuclear proliferation in the past to defend themselves. Like I said, nobody is going to be there to dictate terms, threaten, or pass final judgment. You are entitled to your opinions, and we would like to hear them articulated clearly and in a forum of strict neutrality, rather than in a series of responses to ultimatums issued by other countries.

Interested?

Dammit I posted too soon.

Alright, this thing will go forward by next week at the latest (I'm going to a wake and a funeral this weekend).

If there are any further entrants into the summit, post your interest here and you'll be added to the list. There's really no deadline so don't worry if it starts without you, you can always jump right in (following all summit rules and necessary RP procedures, of course)
