Coming to the Edge [FT - Sign up Thread]
So, I'm back after a lengthy medical leave from Nationstates and now it's time to get into the thick of things again, so I suppose you can call this a (re)intro thread. So, the SCF is back up to it's tricks of trying to destabilize the galactic politics and failing miserably. :D
To start things off, I'm planning on a few ships to poke at some nation by destroying a maker buoy on an uninhabited system on the edge of the galaxy. You know those holdings where, a nation 'claims' this system for the point of making itself look bigger and to stock their stats but have no actual holdings within that system?
So anyway, Sertian forces come, blow up that buoy which is sure to arouse some curiosity - from possible invasion to technical error. This sign up thread is to then establish the owner of that buoy who's come to invistigate what happened, and the other people have somehow discovered the situation and sent their own vessels to either assist the buoy owners or hostile forces taking advantage of the situation to try and claim the system.

I'm down, certainly...I have an imperialistic culture that certainly likes to inflate any planetary stats and would also certainly want to know what happened to any "exploding probes."
My people are Dwarves IN SPACE. They terraform planets by having automated drones exploit the lack of friction to ferry asteroids into decaying orbits until the planet's gravity is high enough to fit the comfortable range for my race. Killing the drones will throw terraforming in the system off by decades. Of course, that also means a dwarven grudge...
Well, Amazonian posted first, and his culture fits the profile. While Golugan also has an interesting idea using droids to terraform dead worlds. Of course a small SCF detachment coming to a world wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a droid going to pick up an asteroid to a droid that's just, there.
Either way I would like to get both of you involved, perhaps it could be a system that your Dwarf empire has had it's eyes on and detects the destroyed drone to see if the system is now open for colonizing?

I'd be down with that scenario - that his guys are lookin at it and I throw in something to be the old "yea I claim this land for Spain" and all to look pompous.
The general concept works for me, although the motive on the end of my people is more like this: "Something we built isn't working. Something must have gone wrong. Time to look into it."

I could have a pair of my ships turn up ?
Alright, so, the layout is...
People who claim the system that had the probe that died in a fiery inferno: Amazonian Beasts.
Now people who show up, so far I've seen:
The Battlehawk
And possibly Golugan. So if you want to show up as a race coming to take advantage of the situation or to come help the Amazonians, speak up now. I say one or two more and we can start this up tomorrow.

Of my two factions, the Grand Empire would gladly come in to steal any systems left unattended. My race has a habit of sending long range probes into distant areas to see if there are any inhabitable worlds left open for colonizing, so if I see the probe destroyed and view it as uninhabited, you can expect a colonizing fleet to arrive as fast as it can be assembled.
In short, sure, I'd like to join.
Wait, I thought it was my race's thing that was destroyed and Amazonian seizing the day. Eh, it'd work either way: The Khazukan of Golugan would argue that any probe that couldn't last long enough to stake a claim isn't a probe fit to stake the claim.

No, I meant that if my exploratory probe noticed the destroyed Amazonian probe and the unattended inhabitable system, my race would jump on it as fast as possible.
And I meant I thought that it was my terraform drones that get destroyed, not Amazonian's probe.
And I meant I thought that it was my terraform drones that get destroyed, not Amazonian's probe.
Before I was weighing both options, both would work and what not. As I said I was looking over each decision, if I didn't make that clear I'm sorry. :3
I did however, decide with the Amazonian being the 'claimers' because A) He posted first, B) Destroying a buoy to get a reaction isn't quite as aggressive as blowing up a probe terraforming a planet. Of course, they could just claim that they thought it was a weapon destroying a planet by bombarding it with asteroids, but really that argument wouldn't hold up to much.
In short, the Sertians wanted to poke at some nation and get a reaction that they could study, NOT put a colonization effort back several decades.

Welcome back
Expedition Fleet it is, then. It'll give me time to come up with a terraform drone that can defend itself... I suppose given the precising nature of the terraform techniques, multiple layers of stealth technology would suffice.
