The Four Heatons

Captain Karl Jones stood in the bows of FHS Spencer looking out at the Sea. Stars reflected in the sea like Diamonds. He ran his hands along the metal on either side of him till they met to form the forward point of his cruiser. Karl liked the sea best at night. All was quiet, all was calm all was so much simpler.
Karl walked back through his ship to his cabin. He stepped through the door and as it closed behind him Karl sighed. He stepped over to his bed and lay there.
He lent over to his recording device and activated
“Captains Log.” He began
“The Spencer is heading southward towards a safe harbour for much need shore leave. Our diplomatic mission, although successful, was a drain on all the crew. Ensign Sisko somehow managed to convince me to let him water ski behind the Spencer, I’m not sure how he managed to do it but he did. We’re due to arrive in Port in about two weeks. End Log”
Karl turned his log recorder off and lay back. He stared at the ceiling and was just about to fall a sleep when the voice of the first Officer echoed through the Ship:
“All personal Red alert, Captain Jones to the Bridge, Repeat Red alert, All hands to battle Stations”
Karl stood sighing quietly he pulled on his uniform jacket and ran out of his door
Several minutes later Karl arrived on the Bridge
“Report?” He asked Commander Thomas White, his first Officer
“We’ve just been over flown by three Jets"
"Bloody Hell! Karl exclaimed “What country?” He asked
“We can’t tell sir, they don’t have any markings and no transponder frequency we recognise,
“Send a message to the admiralty let them know what is happening, and tell those bastards out there to stand down and go home, or we’ll respond with deadly force” Karl Ordered
The Communications officer nodded then several seconds later he frowned
“Problem Ensign?” Karl asked
“Well sir” The man replied “I’m getting a response, but it seems to be in a launguage, I'ved never heard before
Karl also frowned"
“Can you translate?” Karl asked
The Ensign was about to respond when Lt Richards from Tactical shouted from across the Bridge
“Sir, Torpedo in the Water!”
“All hands brace for impact” Karl Exclaimed through a com link to the rest of the Ship
Seconds later the ship was rocked by a huge explosion
“Damage report!” Karl shouted as he pulled himself from the floor and looked at his now debris filled Bridge
“Major hull breach, deck 5 Section 4, emergency repair crews are responding” Tom replied
“Fire a missile at the lead Jet” Karl ordered and looked out of the Bridge’s viewport as several seconds later a stream of light burst from the deck like a firework, but with deadly potential. It soared through the sky before hitting the lead Jet causing an explosion and sending down in flames
“Target down, the other two MiG’s are bugging out west. Their retreating” Richards reported
Several of the Bridge crew smiled
“Ah don’t celebrate yet, the engineers can’t plug the breach, we’re sinking” Tom said bitterly
Karl groaned
“Abandon ship” He said and then as his officers stood and headed for a lifeboat he turned to Tom “Send a message to the admiralty, and make sure you get supplies and weapons, we’re only about 20 miles of the Coast, make sure everyone follows the flare on our Lifeboat”
Tom nodded and got about his work
Karl looked round his once tidy and calm Bridge, and saw debris. He spotted a young woman, a Lieutenant, trapped under some debris.
“Don’t worry Melissa, we’re on our way” Karl said as he ran over and lifted the debris off the woman and helped her up
“Thank you Captain” She said before running out the door to a lifeboat.
Tom Ran over to Karl
“Captain It’s time to go” He said
Karl nodded and he and Tom ran off the Bridge and struggled along the slanted ship to a lifeboat
Karl and Tom climbed into a lifeboat. The Spencer was listing heavily now. Tom was just about to let go of the mooring rope when Karl spotted a young Ensign scramble along the ship
“Tom wait” He said pointing
The Ensign Climbed into the Boat
“Captain, I was stuck in engineering sir, no one else is left on board” She said
Tom pushed off and Karl watched as his proud ship sank beneath the waves leaving no trace, he sighed.
“They’re a fine crew” Karl thought “I’ve got to get them home”
Karl reached for a flare and lighting it before leading the Fleet of Lifeboats westward.
