Star Gate Rp?

Where would a Stargate Style RP go, as in what tech?

Depending on the factions open for RP (Earth, Ancient/Ascended, Goa'uld, etcetera) it would most likely be a variety of MT, PMT and some FT. If you're looking at a Stargate setting in the earlier seasons when Richard Dean Anderson was still a regular, then it'd be more MT-PMT. If it's in the newer, Atlantis universe with regular inter-galactic travel and space combat, it'd be more PMT-FT.

Once you have wormholes or aliens, it's firmly in the realm of FT. You just happen to be voluntarily gimping yourself by using tech from the 90's.

I wouldn't call it gimping...I'd call spottin' the aliens a handicap against the indomitable human spirit by which we usually beat'em.

It helps, of course, to have bolters. And mankind only lasted so long because they made friends, powerful friends who helped partially uplift them. That and all the theft.

Or just unbelievably stupid aliens. Plotholes ftw!

Yeah, you need smart enemies. Or enemies that are at least stupid but effective. Like Orks. There's never a good WAAAAGH when you need it.

Screw Orks, just throw some Idirans or the Affront their way and laugh. Hell, throw one Idiran or Affronter their way and still roll on the floor gasping for air.

That would be blissful and lovely. I would pay to watch such depravity. Giving them to the Azadians would also be fun.

Tempting, that. I'd almost pay to see the protagonists of SG1 or Atlantis go through an entire episode of Failing At Chess Forever.

Not to mention all the torture!

Where would a Stargate Style RP go, as in what tech?

If you're playing as the Tau'ri from early seasons of SG1, you're pretty much playing as the United States, which would be MT. You just can't recognise the existence of alien races, nor steal their technology to use against other nations. At least not without consensus, as there have been MT versus FT threads deliberately created in the past.

If you're playing as the Tau'ri during whichever season they first build advanced, hyperspace capable ships (i.e. X101s, F302s or the F303) then you're playing as early FT, 'cause hyperspace and energy shields are far in advance of anything we have here even if they were poached from aliens.

And if you're playing as the Tau'ri during the later seasons of SG1/Atlantis, that's pretty firmly FT. Powerful energy weapons and shields, intergalactic hyperdrives and teleporters are vastly superior to any technology available in MT or PMT, and even some FT races such as Vescopans. Not to mention the fact that most of those technologies are beyond plausibility.

It goes without saying that if you're playing as any of the multitude of advanced alien or alternative human civilisations that exist in the Stargate universe, such as the Goa'uld, Asgard, Wrath or Tolan, you're automatically in FT mode unless you somehow strip them of their technology and have them evolving on Earth at a similar pace. If you do that, you rely on other MT players accepting non-human nations - many do, but many don't.
