General Michael von Ludendorf III's mansion, 10 miles outside of Gordonopia City

"General, the forces are ready. They await only your orders."
"Good, give me the radio."

He had been planning this for years. The largest coup the nation had ever seen. There had been several major rebellions over the years, but none like this. Nearly 40% of the infantry, 30% of the tankers, and a large portion of the air force had pledged their allegiance to him. He had almost none of the navy, but they weren't needed for his plan. All of the men he had were in 200 divisions, making up the majority of them. This way he would have total control once any loyalists to what was soon to be the old regime were either eliminated or converted. Through careful manipulation, he had ensured that all of the divisions were around four of the major cities, so he could strike fast and hard.
He would take out those cities, take control of the infrastructure, and capture the government leaders. Then they would drive North to the mountains and take out Deska, the only remaining of the top five cities. It was a genius plan, the intricacies had been perfected, and the date was set to ensure maximum effectiveness. Now it was time.
"Attention, Attention" he said, in a firm voice over a radio brodcasting on with a special code, receivable only if the radio had a special chip. "My friends, it is time."

23rd Infantry Division Headquarters, 2 miles outside of Gordonopia City

"Soldiers, move out!!" A voice blared over the camps loudspeakers.

The entire division marched out of the camp, leaving several hundred bodies of dead loyalists. They were heading towards the capital, and to a new regime.

The next day

"General, the plan has been completed, we've taken Fusba, Teva, Gordonopia City, and Closetta. Our men are beginning attacks on the other major cities, but they are encountering almost no resistance, only the occasional militia unit. There is only one problem."
"Well, what is it, tell me!"
"The prime minister has escaped, he is nowhere to be found."
"Dammit! Without him, the plan will take much longer to complete. We must find him, and capture him!!!"

Official Press Release from Gordon Smith, The Prime Minister of the Republic of United Gordonopia

"Nations of the world, a coup has begun in my nation. Sources indicate that it is led by a high ranking general in the Gordonopian Military. My intelligence network has come to the conclusion that as many as 200 of our 350 infantry divisions have defected, and 15 of the armored divisions. Several airforce units are believed to have gone over as well. Luckily, almost all of the navy is still loyal, as well as every specialized divisions. We still have our 10 mountain, 10 jungle, and 30 airborne divisions. We also have our elite forces, P.H.A.L.A.N.X. It appears that many of the men they turned were grunts who cared more about their paycheck then their country. I have been able to escape the capitol, and have established a temporary one in the city of Deska. In is in an extremely mountainous region, filled with passes, so we will have the advantage in all but sheer numbers. Several divisions have been left behind to act as guerilla units. We plead that you do not recognize or aid this coup as a way of either ligitimizing it or for your own personal gain. Please..."

Meanwhile, at several farms outside of Gordonopia City

"By order of the new government, these farms no longer belong to you."

The residents were herded onto trucks, and driven off to the city.

Hours later, new residents, ethnic Gordonopians, came to the farms, and were given the deeds by the soldiers.

OOC: Gordonopia has four main ethnic groups, Tevan, Gordonopia, Deskan, and Fusban. Gordonopian is the largest, about 30% of the people, then Deskan with 25%. Tevan and Fusban have about 20% each.

ooc: that would be good, but it's not really a "resistance". It's more of a civil war, right now, militarily, the two sides are actually about equal. The general's side had more men, but the loyalist side had an extremely good defensive position filled with passes (think Thermopolye but instead of 300 vs 300,000 its more like 250,000 vs 300,000, the loyalists have the better troops but less men, but enough that they have a very good chance).

President Chris Rescudo of the Democratic Republic of Aglorea sat back in his chair, tired. It was election season, and although he had won all previous elections by landslides, this one could prove difficult. He had been campaigning for days on end, and had finally returned to work. As he looked through the files on his desk (a very large stack) he noticed a document discussing United Gordonopia. It appeared they were again involved in a civil war of some fashion, and the rebels appeared to be winning. A small force would not do this time. The true government was an Aglorean ally, if not officially, and they should be helped.

If this went well, it would be a boost in the election. If it failed or became too costly, it could be the end of the race. Ultimately, President Rescudo decided it was worth the risk, and had a telegram written to each of the parties involved.

Prime Minister, I would like to inform you that I will deliver aid to your forces, both military and otherwise. If you require any food or similar things, I will transport as much as Aglorea can spare to aid you. Currently, 100,000 soldiers are being mobilized, with half of them to arrive within two days. The others will arrive shortly thereafter, as needed. Our primary concern is our citizens in the embassies, and we will help you push into the capital to get them as quickly as possible. Good luck until then.

I wish our first contact could have been on better terms. Currently, a number of Aglorean citizens are in our embassy in your capital. They will be considered hostages if they are not released within five hours, and we will be forced to increase effort against your forces. As of one o'clock this morning, a state of war has officially existed between your regime and the Democratic Republic of Aglorea. Nothing short of complete and unconditional surrender will be accepted.

Have them airdrop in the plains that start 6 miles north of Deska (our temporary capital). It would be to hard to try and drop in the mountains where our main line of defense is. As for the seaborne troops, they can come at the medium sized port of Tolvan. The rescue with special forces is currently in the middle of planning, about halfway done.

The 10,000 soldiers of the Aglorean Airborne dropped from their aircraft, heading down towards the plains of Gordonopia. As they landed, they moved south towards the city of Deska to await the other soldiers. At the same time, the other 40,000 men on board the ships sailed at top speed to the port of Tolvan. Once the Aglorean 22nd Army reinforced the loyalists, another group of soldiers would then land nearby in a location that had not yet been determined. The idea would be to keep them out of the Deska region so they would not be stuck in a mountain range and could be used more freely.
United Gordonopia
07-02-2009, 22:01

07-02-2009, 22:15
In a last minute decision, the remaining 50,000 men, now on their way, were to land on the coast at a series of ports still held by loyalist forces. From there, the enemy would have to watch two fronts, which would hopefully give them an edge.

5 miles South of the main Loyalist defense line

The men at the encampment of the 18th and 32nd division were very busy. It was almost time to begin their attack. With 15 divisions remaining around the pockets of loyalists in the South, and several in the major cities, the 127 divisions stationed on the front were preparing for attack. The bulk of the forces would have a full on frontal assault, while 10 divisions would concentrate on the small stretch on coastal plains on the Western part of the Loyalist line. Guarded by 3 heavily entrenched divisions, this was actually the key part of the attack. They would break through, and once they did, 14 more divisions would move to that area, and flank the loyalists line. The attack, scheduled to begin in 3 hours, was key to the success of their side.

Meanwhile, in Gordonopia City

Lead Aglorean Aircraft Carrier

Admiral James Alexander stood in front of the map of the coastline that they were fast approaching. United Gordonopia had twice before had conflicts in which Aglorea had been forced to enter, and now a third was under way. Hopefully, it would be the last. A second aircraft carrier, the Stranglehold, was sailing directly next to the Nest, and between the two they had enough firepower to knock out any threat that may come from the air. In addition to those two ships, seven destroyers moved around them, radars searching for even the slightest blip, and guns ready to fire in a moments notice. The destroyers each had five rocket launchers, with each launcher capable of firing thirty rockets per minute. Complete destruction would follow.

Admiral Alexander had one purpose in this area of conflict, and that was simply supporting to ground forces. If help was needed, a hundred fighter/bomber aircraft could be quickly launched to knock out armor, structures, other aircraft, whatever was needed. If the battle took to the seas, they would have a difficult time if the enemy outnumbered them greatly. Their only likely weakness. Also in the naval group were fifteen (armed) supplies ships. Their armament was not as great as the other ships, but they could fight off a couple of planes if need be. Combined, this was a menacing fleet.

We have detected your fleet, and request that it join up with ours. Unlike the other branches, the navy was "not needed" by General Ludendorf's plans, a big mistake. As a result, we have retained control of the entire fleet, which is now located at several places. The 1st fleet protecting Teva, 2nd anchored at Iron Harbor Naval Base 5 miles from the giant port of Tolvan (the city is controlled by Ludendorf, but the soldiers cannot maneuver for fear of taking fire from the fleet), the 3rd fleet is at a small port right on the border, protecting the more vulnerable divisions defending the small strip of plains. The Fourth fleet is split up, with elements protecting the various ports still held by loyalists in the South.
As for air power, we see that you have a decent sized group, although it is not nearly as large as the general's air force. Luckily, it is only about 2/3 the size of the Naval Air Force and it pales in comparison to the main air force.

"Do it. If they request some air support, get them in the air over Deska. Until then, save fuel and keep them here." "Fire!!!"
The MCT-1's were being torn to shreds buy the Main Battle Tanks of the loyalists. Ludendorf hadn't expected an armored division to be at the coastal planes. All along the front, the fire was beginning to die down. In 2 days of fighting, over 200,000 of Ludendorf's men had died, and nearly 500,000 more wounded. They had even captured 50,000 when a sector had nearly collapsed but reinforcements allowed them to surround the attackers. The only place where fighting was still prevelent was the coastal plains. There, the highest concentration of losses was taken. In that sector alone, 60,000 of Ludendorfs men were killed, and 150,000 more wounded. 20,000 Loyalists were killed, and 50,000 more wounded. Overall though, the loyalists had only lost 70,000 KIA and 200,000 wounded, far lower then the attackers. The reason for the plains huge losses was a mixture of open fighting and the deadly fire of the naval fleet anchored off shore.
Now that the fighting was dying down, Loyalist HQ was already making plans to go on the attack.
United Gordonopia
12-02-2009, 05:39
Finally, the fire was ending. The entire attacking line was retreating. Soon, it would be the loyalists turn, their turn to retake their country and defeat the coup.

Facility 28, SPARTAN Headquarters

The 8th Spartan company was preparing for their special mission. By request of Gordonopia's allies, they were being sent, along with some Agloreans, to rescue the aglorean citizens. Their plan was to launch in 6 hours in one of the huge TP-86 transport helicopters. They would land in the allied embassy, and secure the area. Once secure, they would get the civilians into the copter and take off, leaving the SPARTANS behind. They would move using the underground network of tunnels to a facility known as Special Area 65, one of the 70 shelters built in the event of a possible invasion from a far more powerful nation. The shelters were always manned by a Battalion of extremely loyal troops. The area was connected to 7 others under the city, so they could strike anywhere, causing chaos in preparation of the loyalist assault.

The current plan involves an attack by about 110 divisions attacking the main line. Although smaller then Ludendorfs attack, their have been extremely weakened by their assault, and are poorly dug in, as they thought their attack would be a resounding success.
This attack is actually more of a diversion then anything. This is where the 2nd fleet at iron harbor comes in. Teva, the nations 4th largest city, is the location of the main attack, and Iron harbor is only 5 miles away. Almost everything South of their main line is extremely underdefended. They only left 15 divisions south of the front. We are planning an amphibious attack involving 30 marine divisions on Teva, while all of the ports we kept control of in the south are being reinforced with an additional 2 divisions. This will allow us to break out at those points. Once Teva is liberated, they can drive straight to the capitol, while the men from the pockets can liberate other cities.

Admiral James Alexander read the response, and made a decision quickly. While the Gordonopian air support would likely be more than enough, he wasn't about to take the chance. He immediately ordered all pilots to prepare their planes, and once the attacks began, they would be in the air, ready to provide support for the ground forces. The destroyers were also ready to launch rocket barrages at the dug-in enemies, just inside of their range. Hopefully the attacks would go smoothly and end in victory.

After several minutes, most of the civilians were in the helicopters. But small enemy units were beginning to arrive. Mostly they were just small squads or patrols, which were quickly taken out by extremely accurate fire of the spartans, but after several minute, a platoon of LCT-1's (4) showed up.
"1st squad, maneuver 86! Go!"
The squad quickly rushed to the basement of the embassy complex and found the entrance to the underground pipes that was in all large Gordonopian buildings.
A minute later, a manhole just behind the tanks opened, and the squad popped out. They rushed to the tanks, and climbed onto the top. They opened the top, and shot the men inside. Two climbed into each tank, with the other four covering the back. They took the tanks to the embassy where the gate was opened to let them in. After they were all inside, the gate was closed again.

The men stormed out of their entrenchments. Rushing toward Ludendorf's line, they prepared themselves mentally for the battle about to begin. Over 100 divisions were advancing, and soon they would make contact.
At Iron Harbor, the sirens were blaring. Men were rushing to their boats, and the destroyers were already beginning their fire, targeting the coastal defenses. As the fleet began leaving the base, the transports carrying the 28 marine divisions were close behind. They could see the planes carrying their airborne comrades overhead.
And at several ports all along the coast, transports were arriving carrying reinforcements that would help the Loyalists break out of their siege.

Aglorean Embassy, Gordonopia City

All of the civilians were loaded into the helicopter. The captain commanding the SPARTANS ordered the chopper's commander to go. The huge rotors began turning, as the SPARTANS exited the compound.
They headed straight for their destination, a small house near the embassy. One of the man dug a hole next to the mailbox, and removed a key, which they used to unlock the door. Once inside the empty house, they entered the kitchen, and moved the fridge to the side, revealing a hole large enough for a man to go through.
The company began going through, and once at the bottom, maneuvered through the tunnel network underneath. After about fifteen minutes, they reached a large steel door with guards on each side.
"Identify yourself!" yelled a sergeant on one side.
"8th Spartan company, we have orders to enter the base from military HQ."
"Confirmed 'open the gate!!!'" he yelled over a radio.
The steel door opened up, and the company entered the facility.

The Aglorean special forces had completed their part of the job, and were to return with the citizens to friendly territory. That way, they could be used for later operations without being confined to the enemy capital (the Gordonopians could handle that anyway). The ride would feel much shorter leaving than it would going out.

Nest Battlegroup
One squadron of Aglorean aircraft flew towards the front lines of the larger attack. As they came over top one of the enemy positions, they dived towards the ground at high speed. They then fired missiles and pulled up, returning to the carriers. This was occuring througout the enemy lines, and was the best support the naval group could give.

The assault was working. Ludendorf's forces didn't have the same air or even tank support, and had absoultely no naval forces. All along the line, units were punching through, and the divisions near the coast were being obliterated by naval fire and naval air. The line was expected to collapse within a day, and the retreat was already beginning.

Gordonopia City, Special Area 65
After a few hours of rest, a hot meal, and resupplying, the SPARTANS were ready to move out. Their next mission, which they had received just minutes ago, would be of extreme importance. Assassinate Ludendorf.
They left the compound, and navigated their way through the network of tunnels. Finally, after nearly an hour, they reached their destination, directly under a large building only 800 m away (within the range of their LR50 Sniper Rifles) from the Prime Ministers Palace. They climbed up a ladder, and opened a hatch into the basement.

Admiral Alexander nodded confidently to himself as he saw the next update on the large map in the center of the room. The enemy lines would soon collapse, and this process was being sped up by the sudden rush of the Aglorean forces. 50,000 soldiers were pushing into the enemy line with considerable force and would likely soon complete their objective. Any loses taken (which Alexander expected to be high) could be replaced with the additional 50,000 soldiers that were nearing the area as quickly as their ships would allow.

President Chris Rescudo sat in his office, reading the latest updates from the Gordonopian Conflict. The combined forces of Aglorean and Gordonopian armies were destroying the enemy, but at a high cost. Of the 50,000 men that were fighting on the front lines of the most recent massive battle, 15 thousand were dead and another 10 thousand were wounded. He had hoped this war would help to raise his polls, but losses like this would be difficult to explain. He sighed, then set about planning his campaign schedule for the next week.

"Field Marshal, Ludendorf is gone!!! We couldn't find him, and after interrogations, our prisoners reveal that he left last night in a convoy of three humvees headed to the border if the wastelands."
"No!!! This ruins our whole plan!!!"
"But without his leadership the whole coup will fall apart."

The captain was right. Along the front, Ludendorf's men were beginning to surrender. They had heard the news, and realized that their side had lost. He was what was keeping the rebels together, and without him, they had nothing.

Within minutes of the news, planes were being sent all over the area, looking for the convoy. Then, flight 3498 spotted something. From the air, they saw three humvees crossing the river past which there was no one.
"Sir, this is flight 3498, I have something to report."
"Go ahead."
"I've discovered 3 humvees crossing the river, I'm guessing it's them."
"Your orders are to follow them. Stay at a high altitude to reduce chances of being discovered. If we know were he is going, we may discover that someone is behind this."

I just wish I could figure it out.
