During the days of the Old Kingdom Wildpass was the Capital of the Vetian Kingdom, but things had changed. About 100 years ago the King decided to create a Democratic Assembly in order to put down the threat of revolution.
The country went south as about 7 political parties filled about 70 seats, making it impossible to start any real change. Also a country the size of Ukraine split into over 30 administrative regions made it worse.

King Harold 2nd of Vetia became unpopular as his Assembly was seen as an illusion of freedom, he did not meant for this to happen but he realized you can’t rush the creation of a new government. His democracy simply didn’t have the influence or organization it needs to start the wheels of change.

The first Riots came from the city of Lorein in the West, a Communist Party had decided to declare independence and form the ‘Union of Lorein’ and the Kingdoms Capital of Hatea in the North was surprised. The Royal army was already in no shape to fight, a recent famine had killed hundreds and most of the Army was deserting because of their orders to bring control to their regions no matter the cost.

The Union started a guerilla campaign at first, filling the heads of the lower classes with the ideals of Communism. The Civil War would last 2 years before they managed to capture the Royal Capital, they then declared the United Socialist States of Vetia. Which would be separated into 4 regions, but the Royals still held Wildpass.

General Leopold looked at his pocket watch as the sun rises, using a telescope he looked at the impressive fortress at the top of a giant piece of land that shot up like a column with the only way in the castle being a small path leading up like a spiral.

When it was constructed over 1100 years ago it was the perfect fortress, the wet weather in the region meant it could capture all the water it needed for its small population of 2000. The Royals only moved to Hatea because at the time they thought it would be good public relations and the City was the safest in the country with its surrounding rivers.

The only way to destroy the castle was to bombard it from the sky, but they fortress has plenty of Anti-Air defensives as it seemed like all that was left of the Royal Army had gone inside. Wildpass was right in the middle of Vetia so they had to take it in order to have true security.

“What are our orders General?” a soldier in a wool trench coat walks up, with a Saiga 12 on his back. It was raining heavily now, making a air assault even more dangerous.

“Where is the armor we ordered?”

“They are trapped; the rain has flooded surrounding area. They are bogged in the mud”

“What do we have in Artillery and Heavy weapons?”

“We have 12 BM-14’s along with 20 Katyusha. Heavy Weapons were coming in the tank convoy”

The Civil War had left the military in ruins, what was left was mostly Conscripts and Militia.

The army sent to take Wildpass was only 3000 strong. Most Armor they used was out of date and due for replacement. So they had to pull out Antiques in order to keep up the momentum that was needed to Blitz the royals before they could organize a counter.

“At this angle they are useless, what did the Recon tell us?”

“Infantry mostly General, without a decent air force they couldn’t move any armor up so they countered it with Bazooka’s and Anti-Air teams”

“If we could get inside we wouldn’t have a problem?”

“Pretty much”

They then heard the radio speak up, telling them a squadron of Mig-31’s have been sent to bomb the Fortress. Leopold only asked for those 3 days ago.

“Fucking Airforce, order the men up. We have to storm the fortress right after the bombs hit”

The commotion was bad; he knew such an unorganized attack could lead to a disaster. His hopes were that the Royals should have lost allot of men by the time the bombs hit or if best had a lack of men to start with. He heard shooting as he realized his men were fighting up the ramp and then roaring overhead as the Mig’s drop their payload one destroying the main gate and the rest just hitting random targets to kill as many as possible.

The battle lasted about 3 hours, when all was over the General drove to the top on a motorcycle. As Leopold stepped out of the passenger carriage he looked to see countless dead bodies. The Socialist Army had lost far more men then the Royals, but sheer numbers and surprise won the day. The Royals always had the better army; we simply have more men and equipment. They bring to his attention a prisoner, it was King Harold. He looked up at the General and smiled.

“How far you have fallen, my good General”

“I don’t serve the Bourgeoisie anymore, I fight for the people. The Socialist Army has finally ridden itself of the Tyrannical Capitalist”

“At what cost? Industry barely exists and 20% of the population is now
homeless. At least under my rule Vetia had some chance of reviving”

“You are under arrest King” Leopold looks to the soldiers who were holding the King in place

“Take him by convoy to Lorein, he will be put on trial for what he has one”
Today the Socialist Union of Vetia had overthrown the Old Regime and brought peace to the region, but at the cost of a destroyed economy and a already crippling foreign debt it would take awhile until they could start to rebuild.

The CRB (http://www.nationstates.net/35478/page=display_nation/nation=bulgoria) has been observing the situation in Vetia for a few years. The people and party officials in Bulgoria agree that help should be sent to a newly established fellow socialist nation.

Unfortunately, in your heroic war for Socialism your economy and welfare have been nearly destroyed from what we know. Bulgoria is able and willing to provide you with military and economic boost - from 3.4 to 7 billion levs (around 4,78 billion dollars; 1$ = 1.4849 levs) an year can be given for the development of Vetia as a strong and powerful country. It has come to my attention that you have recently overthrown the old regime which ruled in your country, and installed a Communist regime in its place.

It sickens me to see one more state fall to the plague that is Communism. It sickens me to know more people will be made to endure cruelty and privation at the hands of tyrannical leaders who care nothing of them, and who rather than seeking to improve themselves are instead determined to reduce the prosperous to the same level as the poorly. It matters but little what specific form of the Red Menace you choose to follow. It is all evil to my eyes.

I have petitioned the Congress of the Republic to investigate available data concerning the past regime, in order to discern an appropriate response to this situation.

Re: Recent developments.

Whilst the internal affairs of Vetia are their own business, the Empire of New Chalcedon urges the new government to show moderation and clemency. History books are filled with examples of states that chose extremist paths, and the orientation of those paths matters little - absolutism, capitalism, or communism. In each case, the state in question failed to fulfill the basic functions expected of a state towards its people.

As a first step to reassuring the international community that Vetia will not become a hardline Communist state (a development for which said community would have little patience), we suggest that permitting the former King to go into exile would be an excellent start. In order to encourage moderation, the Empire of New Chalcedon is prepared to offer a partial debt-relief arrangement upon acceptance of this arrangement, as well as guarantees that the Empire will not become a focal point for reactionary attempts to set the King back on his throne.

City of Lorein, Capital of Vetia
The trial of the King was a joke really, it was more a excuse for the government to show it's strength and show off practically. They were not going to execute the King but they were not stupid enough to put him into exile. That could give any rebels a figurehead to unite around and if he made it to a country with a sympathetic ear he could talk them into a full scale invasion. Killing him was also not a option as this could lead to martyrdom so the government thought to put him under life-time arrest for his 'Crimes' and would be held at the Prison in Mita.

The international backlash was to be expected, Capitalism ruled the world with it's maximum profit for little cost ways. Democracy that claim to be the voice of the people openly ignore the needs of their people for selfish agenda's. A press release would be sent out showing that they were simply going to keep the King in Vetia to assure they could control everything he did, also they were to open diplomacy with Bulgoria which was just common sense.

Private Enterprise had been banned and armies were marching around the country, they were enforcing the new stance that the Government regulated everything. They were going to do this slowly, at first take over Heavy Industry and Farming. They were not going to rush straight into everything as this could overload the still Fragile Government. So Fragile it has not chosen a name for itself yet.

President Charles Robertson had a Communist Assembly to work with, they were elected officials who had been voted in from every region. As always only Socialist Candidates can apply but they don't actually belong to a party, but Candidates are tested in order to see if they qualify.

The Army was in ruins, the navy which for a long time had been the pride of the Vetia was completely destroyed. Our Forces captured Angersmith Port early in the War but Royalist forces controlled Islands in the sea. Both sides were completely devastated by the bloodbaths that followed.

AirForce was the service in best shape, with about 30 Squadrons that can cover most of the nation. This was because most of the Airforce joined the Communist Army.

The Army itself was now just Infantry with decent equipment but typical Conscript training makes them unprofessional and a liability to Public Relations. Stories of rape tend to end with the Soldiers punished by whips and if they repeat they get shot in the ankles so they couldn't serve in the army or any Labor job.

That was the only strength in the army, the Officers were mostly from the Royal Army. They had training but yet again weakness was some had to be put into the Communist Forces because of lack of Officers and not because they were true Socialist.

President Cross and Secretary of State Becker Fagan were seated in Fagan’s office, alone. He had shut the door, and the Presidential Security Detail was outside in the hallway with instructions that the President was not to be disturbed.

“Well, Madam President, that’s what they’re saying,” said Fagan. “Of course there isn’t a lot we can do to confirm long-term intentions, but for now, it looks like he’s secure.”

“Good,” said the President. “Do we have any more data on the deposed monarch? Family links, history, policies, things like that?”

“Not much right now, but we’re still looking.”

“I see,” Cross said with a nod. “Well then, I’ll speak to the Defense Secretary about some kind of a rescue operation, just in case he turns out to be a decent fellow, or he has family in-country who need help of some kind."

“We have troops who could do that?” Fagan looked surprised.

“Of course we do,” said Cross. “Every modern state needs a special force. Bedford Island is no different, really. We have a few people who could be called on.”

“I’ll just trust you on that one, Shannon.”

“Good, because I’m not telling you anything else right now.”

Meanwhile, the Central Intelligence Agency was discreetly searching for any information in existence regarding King Harold II of Vetia, especially regarding policy decisions, and known family relations. Even if he could not or should not be rescued any relations of his in the country might be saved from persecution.

The Republic of Allidore wishes to state that it officially recognises the Socialist Union of Vetia as an independent and sovereign state, and extends the hand of friendship to the new socialist state. Despite being capitalist ourselves, we trust that mere ideologies will not pollute the friendship that our nations should have.

King Harold started his rule at the age of 16 (now he is 43) and as tradition forces on monarchs joined the army to serve his nation. He was a good soldier and rose through the ranks to become a Captain.

This made him a poor politician, his Advisers were typical of any other Royal Council in history and was filled with yes-men and ass-kissers to the point they could ignore their job completely if it meant more money from being in favor with the King. Then he tried to calm the situation down by creating a Democratic Council which would be elected by the population but yet again they put a income limit. You had to pay the Government for voting rights with the Rights cost about a average peasants yearly wage.

Then you got rights to vote in a Government that was even worse then the Royal Council as the corrupt politicians were always in a power struggle to get the King affection and then get more important positions.

The King is not a bad person, but in the end he just couldn't run a country and the Government that was meant to run the country was just as in competent as him.

Vetia was to keep him in Mita, a city deep in the border and could be more easily guarded. He was kept in a Dungeon of sorts in a cell, the only way in or out was one metal door to a dome like structure not bigger then a typical living room. 50 Guards were guarding the King, but they were yet again not the best trained men around and only had 1 officer to control things.

It might not seem like much but because the entrance is such a bottleneck they thought anybody who tried to break in would be easily shot down by even a child with a rubber ball.

We could use your military aid for reconstruction of cities, Hatea which was the main Capital of Vetia when the war broke out is almost completely destroyed. We understand it's importance historically and also we would need to repair Wildpass as the Socialist Union would like to transform it into a Military Academy where we can safely train new soldiers for the Union Army.

If you could spare Trainers so that we can start enforcing discipline in the army, when Wildpass is opened it's going to re-train about 3000 soldiers a term (4 months) we hope this training will help the army rebuild itself.

Angersmith Port also needs materials in order to construct ships, also we would purchase a hand fall of Mothballed Vessels to bring back some security to our waters.

Lord Rodderwick had only recently been named by the King as Lord Chancellor, and he was considered as an outsider to politics, having never served in a previous office. It was unknown to those even in the Dominion as to how he would respond to an international crisis such as the one that had befallen Vetia.

To the vile Tyrant Charles Robertson,

Sir, the news of your uprising has greatly disturbed His Majesty, and we both demand an immediate end to your regime of violence and terror. Your actions have been cruel and un-Christian, and the only morally and legally acceptable course of action for you to take is to disband your illegitimate government and allow King Harold II to resume his position as leader of your people.

You must understand why it is unacceptable that you arbitrarily gain power and usurp control of the state from King Harold. The Central Committe building in the center of Terevesti was nearing completion and the top floors still had to be built but the bottom floors were complete and so was the Balcony that looked over Mehmet Square. A statue of Mehmet was just erected in the center. It was a small public square. nothing compared to Provoçe Square further north.

The Party conscripted 10,000 civilians in nearby apartments to come out in the winter day to stand in the square. They were given portraits of hte great comrade Mehmet Çeau, miniature flags of the party and of Bulgislavia. At the front of the crowd were the conductors who started up pro-party chants and slogans.

When the crowd was assembled they were waving thier flags and at the front of the crowd they were clapping in Unison while chanting

"Comrade Mehmet, defender of the nation! Solidarity with Vetia!"

The crowd once again burst into the chant and clapping in unison. Camera crews were set up strategically to capture the moment which would be shown on the restricted 2 hours a day Bulgislavian tellivision. The even would also be recorded on the news and on the news papers though everyone in the country knew that the news article would focus more on Mehmet as a defender of National rights then on the Vetian Revolution.

Charles was amused at a Kingdom calling him a Tyrant, he had worked hard and the people knew the sacrifice that had to be made for Freedom. The Kings father killed people in the streets without any form of accountability we had to take action.

A system which relies solely on a powerful leader to take charge is to unstable and Capitalism had no place in Democracy. A dog-eat-dog system does not suit a system where everyone is meant to be equal and have equal chance in life.

His picks up his tea and walks to the balcony of his room, he lived in a Apartment while they were rebuilding the Government buildings. The citizens were given some of the more intact buildings to sleep in. Sometimes with 6 people to a room for 2, it had to be done in order to keep people safe from exposure and out of the way while the army rebuild damaged parts of the city.

Food was still plentiful and the Government was giving away Bread and Cereal's for free, the VSS (Vetia Socialist Security) was the Policing force walking the streets at night making sure curfew was obeyed. Crime was bound to go out of control if citizens were allowed out at night with so few men.

The Government was doing the best with the resources available, what pissed Charles off the most was simply this. If they had rebelled and gone Capitalist these countries wouldn't have a problem, Capitalist don't like Socialist because it's bad for business.

Kirith sits at his desk, it had been busy. He was a Indian who had gained favor of Charles for his help in rallying support during the rebellion, they thought his talent would be useful. It was not the position he was going for but at least he had a department.

Why train only 3000 when you can train 6000? I will also send a small regiment, an estimated 1,500 troops, to assist in the reconstruction of Wildpass but to make it a bit larger.

As for for trainers, yes, I shall spare you trainers. You name how many you need comrade and it shall be done. It's very vital to have security of the sears, as such I will supply you with whatever materials you need. Shall I send a small portion of my navy to secure your waters for the time being? Of course they would be under your command.

Our people know great hardship, at the moment our only concern is their welfare. our nation is rebuilding and just because it does not fit in with your beliefs does not make it Tyrannical or Evil. Your 20,000 men will be sent to help rebuild the Mines in the western mountains. We hope to bring the economy back to prewar output in about 5 years, at the moment the rebuilding of Infrastructure has to come before anything else and we need money to fund such endeavors.

Your ships will be sent to protect supply convoys in the Southern Ocean while to help in rebuilding the Islands

Lord Sebastien and Lord Rodderwick were discussing the issue during some downtime while they were in the Queen Theodora Islands. “There is no trick to it,” said Lord Sebastien. “Diplomacy is a game of sticks and carrots.”

“Well I have told him that the King is upset, and that his country would regain its status of lawful rule once the King is restored. What better sticks and carrots are there than those?”

“Well, make sure he knows that His Majesty is terribly appalled at his actions.”

“I thought I had made that clear to him, but apparently I have not. Mr Robertson will not listen to reason. He seems to wish to drown himself in his people’s blood.”



To the Most Terrible Tyrant Charles Robertson and his minion Kirith Ballu,

His Majesty grows increasingly distraught with every man you slay, every woman you rape, every infant you crush. Your position is indefensible, and I am not sure how you can claim legal justification at all. Any laws that you cite would be the laws that you yourself forged. Such laws are consequently invalidated, since you came to power not through lawful succession but instead on the backs of robbers and thieves.

I also do not know how your malevolent apparatus that you call a state can possibly lead to “a better tomorrow.” Indeed, the divine Providence never shows favour to murderers and traitors. Any state led by one will surely sink into the abyss of famine, war, and immorality. Such an atrocity as your jailing of the rightful King, Harold II, is one which will forever blacken your soul, but making amends may ease your damnation and that of your countrymen.

So if a King does the same it's alright? these problems come from years of neglect of the Royal Treasury, Education had to be payed for and private welfare and health care left the poor dying on the streets.

In fact I think the only reason you want a excuse to invade is the very fact you toke the King into custody. Mr. Robertson, Mr. Ballu, and other representatives of the Government of Vetia:

Per standard protocol, the Constitutional Sovereignty of the Saevitian Archipelago does not extend recognition to the Socialist Union of Vetia until such time as said Union has restored internal stability and achieved self-sufficiency and the requirements of government to an acceptable degree. At that time we would be willing to recognize the Socialist Union's legitimacy, it having demonstrated its ability to fulfil the functions of a conventional Government.

On a personal note we must express concern at the formation of a Socialist Union. Extremist economic policies such as socialism are only ideals and, when implemented, are never so successful as pragmatic and centrist policies, and we caution the Union that these choices may lead only to disappointment. Socialist states tend to be totalitarian or autocratic and often fail to become economically viable, due to inefficiency, bureaucracy, and greed. Indeed, following the collectivist path may cause the CSSA's formal recognition to be delayed or even prevented altogether, should it be handled poorly and without due foresight by the new government.

Finally, we criticize harshly the inflammatory and undiplomatic language utilized by Lord Chancellor Rodderick of Cotenshire, among several others. For the Chancellor to express his displeasure with the Socialist Union's formation in such a manner is entirely unhelpful and cannot hope to convince any Vetian of the viability of Cotenshire's message; moreover, it blackens the names of other Monarchies, such as the CSSA itself, by comparison. Should the Lord Chancellor wish to express similar sentiments in future, we would suggest less strongly worded missives, and more actions.

The Union plans on it's economy is going to vary, while most other Communist would take control of everything right away and apply unorganized bureaucracy on them we plan on taking control of all Commercial and Industrial matters slowly. The idea is that when we have systems in place to control for example Agriculture we move onto other area's and we hope this will leave a system that will work very much like it was privately owned.
