Return of the forgotten(FT reintro)

A small group of four 500m long craft suddenly appeared at the edge of a system, once populated by a race the Nebarri Empire defended as a protectorate in its youth, but scans indicated that since the Nebarri had withdrawn from the universe the planet's people had since been devastated. space debris remained of what was either ships or satellites... it was impossible to tell which at this point. And the cities of the people who once lived here were in ruins, it seemed most likely that they had been destroyed from space rather then attacked on foot, still signs of combat on the ground remained...

With the Nebarri's reemergence after thousands of years there would be much to learn, the first task they set for them selfs was to find their old friends and those who relied on the Nebarri's protection, but this fleet found a planet in ruins, and it occurred to them that had they remained as guardians the event may never have happened, so the Nebarri searched the system for clues of an old foe, or a new one so that they might avenge their mistake...

OOC: Ain't seen you in forever, Nebarri, welcome back...i might as well hop in.

Terrible post here, but i wanted to get something up and wasn't sure where to go.

IC:

A small bioship, maybe around 300 meters in length, fell out of a transwarp hole, quickly ascertaining via biological circuits that it was in the wrong system. These quick and fast ships made up a small yet critical portion of the Dominion fleet, perfect for advance scouting and harassing enemy forces...however, the rubble and stellar debris surrounding the planet quickly told the bioship's organic brain that it was not at the Dominion refueling station it was supposed to have arrived at.

Quickly going into active alert, the ship began scanning the localized space, giving off a wide array of sensor activity but at this point caring less for its own discovery and ensuring more that it picked up any potential hostiles in the system.

In the same area, a Hyperborian Probe was scanning the area, detecting the Dominion Bioship and another unknown class of ship near by.

This was news. and The Probe soon sent a message to a Cimmarian Outpost to let The Elite Warriors of The Hyperborian Khanate know something was up in this part of space

IC:

The Nebarri ships would be easy for the Bioship to detect, as they also made no attempt to hide themselves in their search... The Bioship was detected, had the Nebarri continued to have dealings with other races they would have known it was a Dominion ship, and therefore dismissed it from any potential threat as the two powers had once been friends. But that was not the case, and the Nebarri no longer recognized the Dominion's ships...

The Nebarri ships spit up, two continued their scans in the system, while the other two moved past a patch of the debris toward the Bioship, one toward its front, the other splitting off to the Bioship's right side, the two ships locked their weapons on the Bioship, but did not charge them...and then the Bioship was hailed.

"This is the Nebarri Cruiser Adromar, state your origin and purpose for being here and you may not be harmed, failure to comply will result in the detainment of your ship"

OOC:
Post is based on what i seem to remember, though it has indeed been a long time, and i don't know how our nations interacted with eachother. other then that, good to be back.

I'm also not sure if your ship has a crew or if its just a living ship but my hail applies either way.

I am also using a ship i posted a design for the Nasari class (though not the most detailed information overall) if you haven't seen it already i'll give you the link.

In the area, a heavily cloaked and very well hidden observer sent a notice back to The Conclave. The Observers were the product of almost two hundred years of solid research and funding. When the Rotan built, they built to last, preferring Quality to Quantity.

Though Ruia was far away, The Rotan, who had a colony world nearby, researched Dimensional technology, and sought continually to bring it to new heights. Thus, one interesting feature of an Observer was something called Dimensional Recall. It, in essence tunneled, bored, sliped around, crawled under, or in other ways bypassed normal dimensional barriers to bring to it a Rotan Military ship. Infact this is what began to approach, as a small swirling vortex of blue energy started up seemingly out of nowhere. The Observer moved on, and moments later, an Arbiter existed where once there had been a nexus of energy. It had a crystal lattice accross it's hull, and seemed to be the primary building material, but it was such a strange crystal, no world could possibly produce it naturally. It was wrapped in an equally mysterious gold colored metal. It gave off a massive cloaking field that cloaked everything, without exception, in a fifty thousand meter range. It could not cloak itself, but it was easy to tell how one of these could cloak an army, not that there was one, it was just the lone arbiter.

"Greetings, I am Judicator Moranis, of The Rotan Empire, we noticed your fleet and felt alarm for our colony world nearby. We come in peace, and pray that you do to."

Of the two ships not occupied with the Dominion's ship, one detected the Hyperborian Probe and immediately headed for it at maximum sublight in the event it was linked to the destruction of the people who once lived on the planet below.... (OOC: unless i shouldn't be detecting it)

The other had detected the Dimensional Recall but didn't know what to make of it until the Rotan ship began to enter the scene, and they responded to the hail of the Rotan ship with a short answer

"We are the Nebarri, you have nothing to fear from us, yet...but someone shall."

OOC: Nebarri ships can scan dimensions or rather the "line" between them, and use what they call a "Dimensional Rift Generator" or D.R.G. for FTL, very fast and "easy" to use, though a mistake in its use can be very dangerous, anyway...just felt i should explain why the recall would be detected(in case it shouldn't be)

OOC: The ship's sentient (technically...) but it's not crewed (only the really large bioships of my nation are). It all still works by me.

IC:

The bioship - technically one of the variants designated a "Seeker" by the Dominion naval terms (in a frigate-analogous class) - quickly wheeled about to face the new arrivals, its anatomical electromagnetic field jumping to a high as it sensed potential danger. The animalistic side of the vessel tried to jump over, but the brain's sentience remained in control without the certainty of a clear threat. Nevertheless, defenses were ready to go if a fight was brewing...which in this case, the creature-ship was trying to avoid. Outnumbered, possibly outgunned even though the vessel was as fast as they came.

It quickly broke down the transmission and processed it through firing neurons...a simple message, albeit a cautious one. Attempting to predict the possible outcomes of various replies, the ship mulled over several responses as it rammed its way through the debris field, easily cruising through the space junk. Eventually it opted for a similarly cautious response, aimed at not revealing too much besides the basics...better to let the newcomers know as little as possible for potential tactical advantages if they indeed proved to be hostile. As for a reason to be there...the ship went off its prior orders, which were little.

<This is Dominion organic craft T2X-PT8. Scan and collection.>

The creature reached out with its "voice," essentially a comm systems of sorts that would translate its "thoughts" into an audible message that would translate to communicators, albeit in a slightly creepy and neutral tenor pitch. The vessel did specifically not mention which dominion it was from, much less what "scanning and collection" involved...it wanted to judge reaction by the other vessels first. Even if they decided to be hostile, the bioship was prepared to react within its hair trigger reflexes. It was certainly not unarmed...though strangely curious, piquing at the newcomers to ascertain their motivations and efforts.

The status of the two Cruiser's weapons did not change as the crew of the Adromar searched over the records they had of any Dominions they had encountered in the past, they did not know which ones would still be standing after such time or if they still existed like they once had, but they would take any Dominion for what their records indicated...

they sent a basic reply back to the craft after running the list...

"Specify and elaborate: Dominion, Scan, Collection."

the crew hoped that the craft was simply looking for stuff to salvage for its benevolent Dominion, however it was quite possible among many other possibilities that the craft was scanning for survivors to collect for slavery into a malevolent Dominion that had emerged as a major power in the region since the isolation...the second would be less preferable even if it might provide some sort of answer to the planet's current state.
The Turian Hierarchy
28-01-2009, 14:30
“Amazing, isn't it?”

“What is that?” a deep, flanging voice responded in an irritated tone, as Captain Kuren Petarius looked down at the diminutive volus standing beside him. Kuren was well aware of why the expert in resource prospecting had been assigned to the Palaven's Pride, for his skills in locating important mining locations, but he was still uncomfortable with the idea of having a civilian aboard. At least if it were a turian civilian, Kuren would be confident that he could pick up a rifle and defend the ship, but the volus had no compulsory military service, and this short creature couldn't even defend himself.

“Well,” the volus said, his suit rebreather hissing at every pause. “Space is so big, but so many space ships can congregate in one place all of a sudden. It seems like more than a coincidence. Like we are all being controlled by some sort of omnipotent being as puppets in a story.”

“Doran, if you have nothing of import to say, please vacate the CIC and stop distracting my soldiers with your nonsense,” Kuren said harshly, before muttering dismissively; “puppets in a story indeed.”

“You may mock Captain, but I know I am right,” Doran continued. “There has to be some reason for all of these ships gathering together like that.”

“Indeed,” Kuren nodded. “And we shall soon find out what that reason is, and it will have nothing to do with magical beings controlling everything.”

The design of turian command centres was unconventional; the bridge sat at the fore of the ship, where the pilots and their assistants resided. Linking it to the CIC was a long corridor with an abundance of engineering consoles on either side. At the end of the corridor, deeper in the ship and much more well-protected by armour was the CIC itself, home to navigational systems, tactical systems, and much of the senior staff. Captain Kuren himself sat on a raised platform at the rearmost section of the CIC, with access to a large holographic interface – rather than having a central seat amid all of the operational officers as many cultures chose to do, turian captains prefered to overlook all of their subordinates and use the intercom or their suit radios to coordinate activities. Of course, the idea of having the bulk of ship operations located deeper within the ship

Kuren disliked the layout, however, and rarely sat on his veritable throne outside of combat actions. Which unfortunately gave the irritating volus the opportunity to follow him around during this particular mission. He was tempted to bar him from the CIC entirely, but much to his chagrin the volus needed access to the control centre in order to do his work. Doubtlessly, Fleet Command would be somewhat displeased if he did that.

Though Doran did have a point. This system, designated THAS-891 in turian databases was one of the many on their survey mission as part of the aggressive expansion campaign of the Hierarchy. But as they dropped out of their massless corridor and into normal space, they immediately detected numerous alien ships milling around the system, exchanging communications and generally impeding their progress. A mineral survey could hardly be carried out in a claimed system, and the Palaven's Pride was only a frigate, not exactly capable of laying stake to a claim of their own when facing overwhelming numbers. Not that seizing star systems was part of their mandate anyway.

“There is a great deal of debis in orbit of that planet, and the surface appears to have been devastated,” Commander Rilin Arteurin, the executive officer of the Pride, announced. Rilin was, in fact, a female, though aside from some different skin colouring and being a couple of inches or so taller than men on average, there was little for an outsider to tell the difference. “We are at too great a distance to determine if it was recent or not.”

“Is the IES system online?” Kuren asked his executive officer. The internal emissions sink wasn't exactly a cloaking device, so much as they were still visible in space, but when its ability to temporarily halt any heat or energy emissions was combined with their drive core's ability to reduce their apparent mass, it made them more difficult to detect from a distance. It was standard procedure to activate stealth systems when leaving FTL anyway, and turian discipline rarely allowed for such rudimentary mistakes to be made, but in this instance he liked to make certain.

“Yes Captain, the IES is online and functioning well,” Rilin nodded.

“Good,” Kuren said, satisfied. That gave him time to consider his options. Violence wasn't really something he deemed worthwhile, for wasting a new and advanced frigate on a needless firefight over some rocks wouldn't really help the Hierarchy, and it certainly wouldn't help himself or his crew. They could just turn and leave, as if the system was indeed claimed then it was no longer of use to them. But on the other hand, the Hierarchy also had a standing mandate to increase their political influence in galactic affairs, and though Kuren wasn't a diplomat he was the closest thing here. He made his decision.

“Commander, send a mission update to High Command, and disengage the IES,” Kuren said authoritatively.

“Captain, what about the survey?” Doran protested.

“We aren't surveying a planet already claimed by aliens, Doran,” Kuren said. “The Hierarchy is in no condition to go to war right now.”

“No, I mean, we should move on to the next location!” Doran said.

“The Hierarch's standing orders have more impact on my decisions than your survey mission, volus,” Kuren snapped. “As we are temporarily halting that mission, there is no place for civilians in my CIC. You are dismissed.”

“But... but...” The volus' rebreather hissed rapidly, and for a moment Kuren thought he might be having a heart attack, but after a few moments Doran gave in. “Fine. I will file a complaint with your superiors when we get home though!”

“You do that,” Kuren sighed, his metallic voice adding even more dismay to the noise, but he watched with satisfaction as the three-foot curse waddled away and exited through a side door.

“Thank you, Captain,” Commander Rilin said with a note of happiness. “The IES is offline, and High Command has been apprised of our situation.”

“Good work Commander, and you're welcome,” Kuren nodded, slapping his old friend on the back. For the first time of the mission, he stepped up to his raised platform and sat down, clicking on the intercom. “Pilot, take us in closer – nice and slow. Commander, tie in our visual communications with those unknowns.”

“Yes Captain,” Rilin said, bringing up a holographic panel and carrying out her instructions. “You're on.”

“I am Captain Kuren Petarius,” the turian captain spoke. His metallic voice took on a calm and friendly, yet simultaneously authoritative and strong, tone as he tried his utmost to assert the presence of the Hierarchy without seeming aggressive. He temporarily shed his trademark frown too, and avoiding flaring the fins on the sides of his beak-like mouth too often. “Commander of the Palaven's Pride, and representative of the Turian Hierarchy. We approach with no hostile intentions, and wish to offer any aid you may require and broker peace between our civilisations. Over.”

OOC: The Recall itself isn't cloaked, and is quite visible to anyone looking out a port. It was the Observer itself that was cloaked, but it's moved on. The Arbiter is also quite visible and easily detected. It has a cloaking field like that of The Observer, but it broadcasts it over a wide area to hide it's own forces. The Rotan focus on Quality over Quantity and Order over Chaos. The exact opposite of The Eternal Swarm. (My main of course.)

IC:
"Well friends, we would be interested in hearing your story and seeing if there is someway we can help. If your interested in those that once lived in this system, I'm afraid there is little we can do to help, unless you can see something in The Observer Records that we can't. We can however, clear up any suspicions you may or may not have regarding our involvement with them. The Empire established it's Colony well clear of the Space they claimed.
We would've been neighbors. Unfortunately, we were occupied with internal matters that threatened our very survival, and knew nothing of their disappearance until after they were gone.

If you like, we can show you Observer records so you can see for yourself all that it saw." Came the message from The Arbiter.

OOC: If you do want to see them, feel free to RP getting it, and deciding on what you see. I'm hoping to at the very least give you a valid and descent in terms of value clue as to what happened, or who did it. That is, not a complete answer, but the proverbial finger pointing in the right direction. But, it's all your decision. I just don't want to be the one who dun it. I'm not yet ready to make an enemy, but a friend is nice, or at least a peaceful acquaintance.

The newcomers were definitely a curious sort as well, as was quickly ascertained by the nerve bundles of the Seeker. Threat levels jumped slightly as the bioship calculated the possibility of armed conflict arising - the jump of several other ships giving off different sensor and communication profiles also showed an additional level of threat with multiple cultures and ideas coming into play. Not like the bioship couldn't defend itself - it was quite adept at combat of all forms - and if worst came to it could easily involve the other ships in conflict as well, potentially triggering enough attention diverted to allow for an easy escape with minimal damage. Nevertheless, it seemed best to play along for the moment.

<Amazonian Dominion vessel in the pursuit of data sources for potential expansionary zones in future development.>

Simple and to the point, the brain of the bioship continued to be simple and of few words. It wasn't grown to be a vessel with personality, merely functionality and creativity in the sense of combat and carrying out duties. It wasn't a diplomatic ship in any means - it had no interior sans organic material and certainly could never hold any other organic inside of it. It was more animal than ship, a living entity that did its job and did it well.

For the most part, however, it was attempting to avoid conflict at the present - better to carry out its mission without getting drawn into firefighters.

The Nebarri played over the data provided by the Rotan, but it offered limited answers... ships were seen that the Nebarri recognized as plausible designs for the people who once lived here, fitting their artistry, but as the records plaid on there could be seen a clear military buildup before unrecognized ships attacked the planet, several assaults launched, each one fiercer and with a larger force as the defenders began to lose irreplaceable ships until there was nothing left to hold back the enemy, at which point the aggressors moved on to the planet, it could not be seen what they were doing, but it was clear they launched transport craft to some purpose, and then proceeded to bombard the planet until no one was left to resist...

It did not say much to the Nebarri, but what it did show was that the natives had indeed faced a determined, and much more powerful enemy, however what their intent was remained a mystery, as did their identity, though their ships would perhaps be a clue...

Concluding their self-given task of exploring the data the crew of the Embana spoke again to Moranis.

"We thank you for this data, though unfortunately it does not tell us as much as we might have hoped, as fro our story, depending on what exactly you mean, it could be answered in little more then a sentence, or take up all the memory storage capacity of your ship."

----

The Adromar's crew found it amazing that the Domionion would have arrived here at the same time as they had, the chances were extremely low, considering...but that was not important...and the weapons of the Cruisers ceased targeting the Bioship, and replied...

"Any ship of the Dominion you speak of is a friend to us, you may go about your business, and if you would, point us into the direction of the nearest Dominion planet, we have a lot of catching up to do."

----

The third Cruiser having no contact to occupy itself until the arrival of the Palaven's Pride was the first to react to it, entering a Dimentional Rift and immedietly exiting it above and behind the Pride and then answered its hail...audio only, by preference of the commander.

"Commander Salek, of the Nebarri Cruiser Wenokep, unless you can tell us what happened here you can provide us no aid that we need as of yet, however peace you may have, unless we deem you the ones who caused this planet's demise." the voice was female, and a mixture of a natural light calming voice and that of a harsh task master...

Marionetonia
07-02-2009, 22:25
In the debris field, Brain Jar waited. She had been there for about a month. Her skipper, the a cyborg known as The Metal Man, had been hunting pirates for Marionetonia when, much to his surprise, he had found some. In the heat of battle, his ship had taken quite a beating, but had managed to add three of the enemy's destroyers to the collection of hulks orbiting--and, lately, burning up in--the planet's atmosphere.

Before he could complete repairs, the Metal Man had gone into a fugue. The chemical balance that gave him immortality was tenuous, and it had tipped, depriving him temporarily of the use of his mind. That had been three weeks ago, and he still sat, seemingly in a catatonic coma, in the center of his 100-meter-long flying saucer--though the ship was larger on the inside than it was on the outside.

The room was elegant, but extremely understated. There was no furniture--in fact, nothing adorned the marble walls or floor save the candle that burned in front of the cyborg. A computer terminal with a small door underneath it stood beside an entranceway directly in front of the cyborg.

Slowly, the eyes of what appeared to be a fat old man, dressed in a flowing white robe, blinked--once, twice, three times. His head leaned forward, and he blew out the candle. This was his way of indicating that the fugue had ended, that he was healthy enough to interact with others again.

The lights came up.

"Glad to have you back, boss," said a voice through the intercom.

"Thanks, Pete," the cyborg replied. "Glad to be back. What's happening?"

"Multiple bogies."

"Really? Our pirate friends are that interested in another scrum?"

"No--multiple governments."

The cyborg picked up the remains of the candle and rose to his feet. "Now that is interesting," he said. "Anybody we know?"

"The Dominion is here--they've got a pet starship; the Rotan are here--they've even got a Judicator. The Hyperborians have come by, and you may not know about them, but there's a contingent here from Nembari, too.

"Nembari?" asked the cyborg. "They haven't been active in space for...centuries."

"You want me to power up and start chatting?"

"Not right now. If they think we're space junk, they won't start shooting at us. We can always evade them if they try to salvage us later. Let's see if we can find out what they're all after."

The bioship was quick to analyze and break down the response given - so the opposing culture wanted to either know more about the Dominion now or wanted to re-acquire contact. Either way, it probably was more the job of an actual crewed vessel rather than that of a bioship that had originally been attempting a simple scouting run across unexplored territory.

<Affirmative vessel. This craft can send a hypercontact to the nearest Dominion station or vessel to arrive here or at other specified location for interaction, is that plausible?>

The vessel kept things simple, just gauging reaction and attempting to keep its own intentions a mystery. No point trying to give away any more information necessary regarding Amazonian affairs until actual organics could show up to more thoroughly assess the situation.
