Official Message from Alexander Kirillovich Kazansky

Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to deliver to you sordid news.

It appears that our commanders in Cloyster Coast had executed an unauthorized strike upon civilian assets in Clandonia, causing a humanitarian disaster in the process, even among the people we were about to protect – the Prestonians. The national community... is understandably upset. As a matter of fact, over twenty nations are now screaming for our blood.

As a matter of fact, I am holding here a demand from the world community to surrender most if not all of our land in Haven. In a normal situation, I would be forced to tell these people to fuck themselves. However, the truth is that we are responsible for this disaster. Decent people take responsibility for their actions. That is what we in Allanea will do.

As the President of the United States, I am hereby ordering the arrest, under the United Code of Military Justice, of the officers responsible for this attack, and their handover to Prestonian justice. In addition, I am offering the people of the world an agreement, as follows:

One, all Allanean colonies in Haven, excepting North-West Haven, where our nation was founded, will be turned over to allied forces. The civilian population will be evacuated, to avoid massacres and other unpleasantness.

Two, the United States of Allanea will cede San-Nereiana, Roanoke Island, and our military bases in Wasilla and the Cloyster Coat, to allied hands.

Three, ladies and gentlemen, I requested the allies that the terms 'surrender' not be used in the text of the agreement. Regardless, many people in Allanea will view this as a surrender. I cannot blame them for it. Major concessions will yet be required – reparations and military downsizals. As the President, I will do my best ensure these are not humiliating for the United States.

Yet we must realize, as adult people, that we bear not only the consequences of the successes of our men in uniform, but also of their failures, even if their failures are not truly their fault. Tonight, some of our men had caused a massive, Haven-wide, humanitarian disaster that is still unfolding. As such, we will all pay the price of this disaster.

It is not realistic to think that our nation will have the same role in the Haven region after having caused this disaster as it had before. This means that we must now revert to a humbler foreign policy, a smaller military, and other things that will require us to deal with the root causes of this disaster, rather than merely apologizing for it and going on gingerly, like a ten-year-old with his hand caught in a cookie jar.

Unfortunately, many people – both in our nations and outside it – believe I, Alexander Kazansky, am a root cause of this disaster. I decided to start dealing with the root causes with myself.

As the President of the United States, I am not supposed to surrender. I will use my personal wealth, as much as possible, to better the condition of those dislocated by this horrible event. But after this horror, I can not, in good conscience, remain as President of the United States. I hereby resign my offices, with the resignation entering full force within five minutes of the ending of this speech.

Finally, this is my last executive order: though I did not order the bombing of Clandonian nuclear reactors in person, I appointed the general that did. I remain morally responsible. I hereby order the Attorney-General of the United States to begin a criminal incompetence and war crimes trial against me, Alexander Kirillovich Kazansky, under the United Code of Military Justice.

Freemen. Four hundred million of you will be relocated within the next few weeks. Others will experience hardships due to the economic downturn that this will undoubtedly bring. I take my share of the blame, and I will carry it from here. However, there are things beyond blame, and beyond fault. It is clear that you will need to chart a new course for this nation. You will chart it without the man who founded it and wrote its Constitution – and who brought this disaster upon you and the rest of civilized Haven.

I ask you only this, in parting: there will be those among you who will seek to play blame games – to pin it on the Clandonians, the Questarians, whoever – rather than seek for ways to prevent this new disaster from taking place.

Please. Do not do this. Those who do may end up living in the gutter of foreign relations, blaming everybody but themselves for their troubles. Those who don't may end up succeeding.

That is what I want for my country. I want it to have success – peace and liberty for all its people. Even if it has to have it without me.

The last thing... I would wish to express my deepest apologies to the Prestonians that have been affected by the actions of those under my command. By an accident of fate I ended up as a worse butcher of Prestonia than any of her foes. I cannot offer remedy to those who lost fathers, sons, and mothers. I can only express, again, the heavy guilt that now burdens my soul.

That is all, my friends. Vice-President Front will take over from here until the elections.

May God Bless Prestonia.

May God Bless Haven.

May God Continue to Bless Allanea.
