The Iriat Republic was made up of 23 planets. 3 of those planets were still classified as colonies and did not have representation in the senate.
The government was getting quite corrupt. The senators owned lavish villas on a number of planets and new laws were being introduced which made the government pay for all of the senators expenses and Tax payers would not only pay thier wages but also pay for the Senators lavish life style and maitnenance of the decadent life.
People were becoming discontented. strikes and riots were running rampant in the more industrialized planets while the backwards and unproductive "Third World" planets were a huge drain on the Iriat economy.
Some planets even saw nationalistic riots where the citizens demanded self governance.
The highest rank in the Military was the Solar Marshal held by a man named Rakos Nazert who was 65 years old. He was an extremely abitious man, hungry for power but intensly loyal to the Iriat Republic but dissilusioned with the Senate and believed that they would be the doom of the Iriat Repulic.
The Iriat Republic was already 600 years old but it was clearly in decline.
.............................THE COUP......................................
Eranos was the Capital planet. It was largly urbanized except the planets north and south poles which were kept preserved. The central administrative part of the city (or planetary capital) was Irathia.
Soldiers were already out on the streets and guarding public buildings already but instead of the usual order of keeping peace and stability they were all given the command to sieze all important government buildings, block the roads and carry out a successful coup with as little violence as possable.
The senators had thier own special guard loyal to them who were stationed in the Senate Hall.
Soldiers were quickly blocking roads, sizeing strategic buildings they were guarding such as the records department, news agency, interplanetary transportation buildings etc
The Senate quickly found out what was going on when all communications were jammed.
The attempted to send a message to the planetary governemnts on the other systems but no messages were leaving the planet.
"Senators! The military are on thier way to storm Senate Hall, aircraft are also circling the building!" yelled one terrified assistant
"We must get out of her!" yelled a rather obese senator in panic
"Calm down. Everyone knows the drill in these sort of emergencies, We must be evacuated to the Aleze" said Senator Memus an elderly man of 68
The loyal guards led all 20 Senators down the corridors and halls to the loyal floors that were below ground to a large device
"Hurry Senators, get to the Aleze and rally support. From there you can teleport to the Vice Capital" said one of the guards
The senators were teleported to The Aleze It was a huge ship in Orbit around the planet. It was more of a floating palace then a ship to fightwith only fitted with gardens, plazas and luxury rooms for the Senators
The Crew of the Aleze quickly greeted the senate and asked what was going on as all communications with the planet had been cut off. The senators quickly explained a coup was being staged.
Massive space ships were heading towards the Aleze
"Senators, their guns will be able to reach us in a matter of minutes the Aleze is not safe for you! you have to get to Kauncald!" said one of the pilots
The highest ranking military personel on the other planets were given instructions by the Solar Marshal himself and they followed his orders and so the military garrisons on the other planets quickly moved to capture the planetary government and lock down the planets.
The Senators were led to another room where they would be teleported to Kauncald the "Vice Capital"
"Well is it going to work?" said a Senator impatiently
"I dont know whats wrong but the connection at the other end isnt working!? Maybe the planetary government on Kauncald shut down your link, Teleporting to that planet is impossable now" said a technician
"What!? Is it possable the military have control of that planet too!?" said the fat senator
a Senator in her 50's who was a lady spoke quietly
"This is our end. The new military regime wont treat us kindly. Let us end on our terms" she said
"What do you mean!? Where in no possition to negotiate on our terms"
"I meant.... We kill ourselves rather then face inevitable torture and execution" she said still speaking softly
The senators knew it was over and so agreed with little argument and with tears streaming down thier faces
The Aleze sent a message to the approaching military ships that they surrender peacefully and that the Senators were on board and were ready to surrender. At the same time all the senators were drinking down a poison to kill them. Within minutes they were all lying dead on the floor of thier floating palace and in thier luxurious clothes. The old goverment was dead and all of its leaders were dead.
Solar Marshal Rakos Nazert entered the Senate Hall
"No senators to greet us?" he said
There had been a fierce gun battle between soldeirs and the loyal Senate guard and now the bodies were being cleared away
"They were evacuated to the Aleze in the early stages of the coup, I have word that the Aleze have surrended without a fight. Its being borded at the moment by our men"
"Very good. Then we can do away with the old guard and establish a new system that works!" he saif triumphantly
An hour later he was given the news that all the senators had commited suicide on the Aleze

Martial Law was declared all over the Iriat Republic
Conditions of Martial Law
#1 People are not to assemble in more then groups of 3 when in public
#2 All inter-planet travel has been banned communication to the other planets have been closed as long as Martial law lasts
#3 Curfew has been installed on each planet and no one is to be out after 9pm
#4 People can be detained for as long as possable and refused contact if suspected of creating a resistance
#5 arrest and detention without trial will be permitted during this time of Martial Law
#6 All citizens are to carry ID cards on them at all times.
