President Klein seeks a wife...(MT OPEN)

OOC: Yeah, I know, these have gone out of fashion now, but I’ve never done one.
Please note that the title of this thread is wrong. This is not an arranged marriage, Klein is seeking a partner, not a wife.

President Nathaniel Klein of Parilisa had always been something of a romantic. His various adventures with various women throughout his career as a revolutionary leader were immortalized in the somewhat controversial film about his life and times “KLEIN”. Last year there was scandal over the allegation that he had been having a long-term affair with his secretary, Cristina Frank, who was married to Parilisan footballer Jacob Ottograd. Suspicions have been aplenty for about five years concerning the supposedly platonic relationship between Klein and his colleague Sophia Hirsch. But now Klein has decided to settle down, to put his past behind him and to find himself a partner.
Klein has sent invitations to several foreign women and he hopes to meet potential partners in an attempt to find a suitable partner. Whilst he does not intend the relationship to be political it cannot be denied that his partner will be granted certain privileges. He hastens to add that this is not an arranged marriage, and his courtship will nt necessarily lead to wedlock.

Dear Miss Loisel,
I was completely surprised to receive your application. You do not know it, but I am a great fan of yours. When I was young Parilisa was a dictatorship and the media was heavily censored; films especially were banned. But a friend of mine managed to get there hands on an old movie player and a copy of one of your films. It was the first film I’d ever seen, excluding propaganda, and I think the awe I felt on that day was a great influence in my decision to become a filmmaker.
Yours Sincerely,

Violet Greenwood couldn't believe that she had been invited to meet the President of Parilisa let alone be considered to be his partner - she hadn't really thought of anything past being the secretary of the Consul of Foreland. As she packed up some things she deemed quite necessary to have such as spare clothes, Violet traveled through town until she found the airport where her plane would be waiting - she'd have to sit with tourists, perhaps, but she didn't mind. Once aboard, Violet did nothing but think about what the President would be like - she hoped he wasn't a lewd man or anything like that.
OOC: In your reply, Parilisa, you can just say her plane landed. This is all I had time to do right now.

A little over a year later I was in the army as a medic when the Doomani Catholic Nazis came. I barely escaped with my life and my parents weren't so lucky, peace upon them.

Dear Miss Shamir,
I am not aware who the "Doomies" are and ignoratnly have very little knowledge of the war in which you fought, but your opinions seem very similair to mine. I also fought against a dictatorship which had the full support of the corrupted Catholic Church and I have campaigned, not against Catholocism, but against religous intolerance since I came into office. I am also of the opinion that a person does not need to starve themselves to make themselves attractive, and it is for that reason that I have funded a charity to help young people who suffer from eating disorders and lack of self-confidence due to the strains put on them by society. I suggest that you take a look at our website if you want more information on the scheme.
Although you have probably been told this thousands of times, I think you are a naturaly very pretty person.
You are welcome to join me in Prezdorf at any time; I look forward to discussing many things with you.
Yours Sincerely,
President Nathaniel Klein

There were police in the airport, and Klein hated it. He hated the fact that peoples security meant they had to be watched by men with guns, he hated the idea that those who wished to go on holiday had to be searched and checked as if thy were suspects. But it was undeniable that terrorism was very likely, not because he was here, but because of the war. Parilisa had joined the war on the side of Stoklomolvi, and though Parilisan troops hadn’t yet seen action the fascists of the nation were out to do damage to the Republic. Earlier this week a bomb had been detonated in Sylvaburg airport, resulting in 5 casualties.
Klein looked over to the bodyguard who sat next to him in the room and sighed. Did he really have to meet a potential partner with this huge ball of muscle towering over them? Couldn’t Hirsch have sent him with a less conspicuous person, or at least someone who could conceal their gun better than this man, whose pistol was sticking out of his suit at an awkward angle?
The room had a large tinted window which overlooked the main foyer of the airport. A table in the middle was decorated with some freshly cut flowers and a bottle of wine sat alongside some glasses on a cabinet behind. He did not intend to stay here however, and a Rolls-Royce was parked outside, ready to take them to the Presidential Office.
“How do I look?” he asked the man, with a comforting smile. The President couldn’t see the bodyguards eyes because of the huge sunglasses which sat on the end of the giant’s broken nose.
“I’m sure she’ll like it.” Grunted the giant. Klein checked his collar in the mirror; it was brilliant white and sharp enough to cut your finger on. His tie was new, yellow and red in the colours of his party, and the smart suit he wore had been purchased yesterday. It was measured to fit, but had not been too expensive. Klein had good taste, but did not like to drain public money on his own extravagances. “Miss Greenwood’s here.” Said the giant, who was in touch with the airport staff through a device in his ear.
Klein took a deep breath.
“Send her up here.” He said.

After Miss Greenwood had landed on the runway and went through the process of greeting the Parilisans who had been sent to welcome her to their nation, she got into the limosuine and smiled, looking out the window, wondering if she'd be ending up as Klein's partner after all of this had ended. Violet, wearing a lovely dress that complimented her slim physique, loved just seeing the sights of the city from her window, thinking that Parilisa was a lovely nation and hoping that Klein wouldn't be some lewd politician that only wanted sex. She hadn't dealt with such a man before but it was possible that she would.
Once the limosuine arrived, Violet calmly stepped out and walked inside the building to find Nathaniel Klein waiting for her seemingly calmly - she smiled and greeted him with the cheerful spirit she had written about. "It's a real pleasure to finally meet you, President. My name is Violet Greenwood. Thank you for taking the time to see me."

“The pleasure, Miss Greenwood, is all mine.” Said Klein with a smile. He kissed her hand politely, but not in the stuffy, prudish manner of the old aristocracy. Klein had never been incredibly fond of formalities; he found the salutes of some of the military men around him quite embarrassing. “There’s really no need for the titles, you can call me Nathaniel if you want.”
The President turned to the bodyguard. “You can go now, I don’t need babysitting.”
“But-“stammered the guard, before Klein fixed him with a stern look. The huge man left the room in a quiver of fear, like a scolded dog. He gave Violet a beaming grin as he commented: “They worry about me too much.”
He pulled a chair from under the table and gestured for her to sit, before taking another chair at the other end. The bottle of wine was taken from the shelf and uncorked. The President offered his guest a drink.
“So, Miss Greenwood; tell me about yourself.”

Violet grinned back at him. "The Consul's bodyguards are a tad worrisome about her whenever she's out on some political function. They've got a file on me as well because you can't seem to trust anyone according to their way of thinking but, at least, they've not been overzealous."
He pulled a chair from under the table and gestured for her to sit, before taking another chair at the other end. The bottle of wine was taken from the shelf and uncorked. The President offered his guest a drink.
“So, Miss Greenwood; tell me about yourself.”
Violet took a sip of the wine before she began. "I was born in the upper middle class and generally had a pretty good childhood under the auspieces of my hard working parents. After my education was completed, I chose to work as a secretary to various people until I was hired by the Consul of Foreland, Isabella Cullen, whose ad I answered without hesitation. When they chose me out of so many applicants, I was amazed. Since then, I've faithfully served the Consul. When I'm not working, I spend time with friends and explore the city where I live with all its cafes and landmarks. So, Nathaniel, what should I know about you? There must be more to you than politics. Do you have time to pursue hobbies?"

“More to me than politics? Increasingly often that is not the case, I am sorry to say. I was born in the industrial mire of Sylvaburg to a poor family. I had no prospects; it was illegal for a person of my class to attend university or attend a proper school. I began circulating leaflets criticising the dictatorship and got put in a prison but I escaped. I joined the Revolutionary Army and eventually helped win the war. More than anything I suppose, it was my actions in the war which got me elected to become President. Work is hard, but I have the finest team of staff anybody could ask for to help me.”
“As for seeing the city, I’d love to show you the sites. Prezdorf’s nightlife is internationally infamous for being interesting, but because of my position I can’t really go down there without attracting much attention. There are a few restaurants where they have the decency to not inform the press of my every move. The unfortunately fact is that many people out there want to kill me.” Klein laughed at the idea. “But I would very much like to show you the beauty of this nation.”

“The dictatorship was our ancient monarchy, which had never allowed democracy to take hold. It is a great pity that the only way our nation could gain its freedom was through fighting.” Klein looked towards the large window, a look of desperate sorrow filling his eyes. He had lost many comrades in the war and he had sent thousands of men to their deaths. Although he had had monuments erected in their honour across the nation he did not feel absolved of the awful guilt, nor did he believe he should be. But it was a fact that the reason he strived so hard for the Republic, and an inspiration in his day to day life, was the loving sacrifice of the brave men and women of the Parilisan Revolutionary Army.
His eyes returned to Violet with a smile and the sorrow gradually faded from his eyes. “Millions of tourists flood here every year, so there must be something nice about the place.” He grinned; Klein was noted for his broad, and sometimes strange, sense of humour.
“So, Miss Greenwood, tell me about your nation. I regret to say that I have never had the opportunity to visit Foreland. What is it like back home?”

But it was a fact that the reason he strived so hard for the Republic, and an inspiration in his day to day life, was the loving sacrifice of the brave men and women of the Parilisan Revolutionary Army.
Violet nodded her head. "The Free People's Republic of Foreland has always been pretty zealously republican over the centuries with its founding fathers having emphasized individual freedoms in the political aspect of a nation's existence. They took the motto of the French Revolution as their own and, as you may have noticed, it became the motto of Foreland. My boss, the Consul, is well known for her devotion to liberty and has pledged to defend it all across Foreland."
His eyes returned to Violet with a smile and the sorrow gradually faded from his eyes. “Millions of tourists flood here every year, so there must be something nice about the place.” He grinned; Klein was noted for his broad, and sometimes strange, sense of humour.
Violet giggled. "That's a good one."
"So, Miss Greenwood, tell me about your nation. I regret to say that I have never had the opportunity to visit Foreland. What is it like back home?"
"The Free People's Republic was originally founded by a group of American and European settlers who were deeply moved by the governments of the United States, the Roman Republic, and France during and after the Revolution. They were the sort of people who believed that republicanism was the ideal government for all states but never really pressured or fought anyone for the sake of implementing their ideals in foreign soil. Our government is a merger of the aforementioned nations on the political level. For example, like the President of the United States, Consul Isabella Cullen is the head of state and government. She told me before I left Foreland that she would love to meet you in the future - like me, she is single, but I don't think she has considered marrying in the future. In Foreland, the Consuls govern for unlimited three years terms according to the laws we have in our nation. There are numerous political parties including Isabella's party which has been pretty well known for its dislike of any political philosophies which infringe the natural rights of men and women. The Declaration of the Rights of Man along with the female version are both enshrined in our constitution along with plenty of other texts. Culturally, our nation is what you'd call Eurocentric due to our predominantely White European population. We are not racists but simply haven't had any non whites live in Foreland since it was founded. My family is pretty much full blooded English - we include the descendants of American settlers in the category of English speakers for simplicity's sake. Christianity is the majority religion with non-Christians usually being atheists and the like if I am not mistaken. We value friendships with many nations, even monarchies, but I don't think we'd take too kindly to Communist nations and so on. We are neutral in foreign conflicts and don't fight in wars unless Foreland itself was attacked. This was a belief that goes back as far as the Founding Fathers who felt that it was essential Foreland's people be preserved from needless bloodshed. If you ever visit Foreland, I think that you'd be able to see much of the nation. Parilisa and Foreland share the common philosophy of republicanism and would, I think, get along quite well."
Violet smiled. "I hope I didn't bore you but there was just plenty of things about Foreland that I wanted to tell you - so you know plenty about it without having to strain yourself with research."

“Bore me? Of course not! Our nations seem to have a lot in common, and I will certainly doing some reading about Foreland later. As Secretary to the Consul I’m sure you’re much more aware of politics than most people, which is a good thing. It was said in your application that you’re a hard worker, and I think your extensive knowledge is a testament to that.”
Klein took a long sip of the wine. In Parilisa it was not uncommon for people to start drinking at a young age and as such most Parilisans were naturally tolerant towards drink. The President was certainly no exception and he could drink for a while without getting as drunk as many people.
“Anyway, let’s not dwell too much on politics and policy. What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any particular interests?”
