United Hawk Ship Valiant
Hawk Station One

"Captain on the Bridge!" Lt Commander Jenny Sato, Executive officer called as the Captain stepped onto the Bridge.
"As you were" Captain Elizabeth Langely said as she sat in the command chair in the centre of the bridge. The crew relaxed slightly as they took up their stations.
"Lt Smith, bring the warp core online, power to the structual inergirty grid, activate enertial dampeners" Elizabeth ordered her chief engineer.
"Lt Yates, bring the engines to ready status, cotact Hawk Station one, clear us for depature" She ordered her helm officer.
"Hawk Station one, this is the UHS Valiant, requesting clearence to leave dock" Lt Benjamin Yates requested.
"It is an honour to clear you for depature Valiant, fair winds to you, HS1 out.
"Take us out Yates" Elizabeth ordered. Yates nodded and pressed the neccisry buttons on her console.
The sleek form of the Valiant slid from the orbtal docking facility. Several small squadrons of non-warp system defense ships formed up in an honour of guard until the Valiant was past the trio of moons orbiting the homeworld.
"We are free and clear to manovour" Yates reported "Course?"
"Set a course, second start to the right, Warp speed" Elizabeth ordered with a smile. With the press of a button the Valiant jumped to warp.
"Interesting course" Jenny commented as she sat in the Executive officer chair to Elizabeths left.
"It is at that" Elizabeth grinned as she ship sped through space

The Eastern Fringe, Ustio System

Space was quiet on the Eastern Fringe. It had been for months, and Antagon Station had been moved from it's regular location to orbit Antoben. Now, only the small Federal Navy ships patrolled out that far. It was, as far as the people of Ustio were concerned, empty.

But not to the Government. They had moved Antagon Station deliberately two days ago, and had had ships posted to that area to monitor the strange readings that had been emanating from the eastern fringe.

The atmosphere of the Bridge was disiplined yet optimistic. There was low level chatter, which Elizabeth didn't discourage. The Valiant was twelve hours from home and was doing well.
"Captain' Lt Elis Vaughn commented from his station "Picking up a ship 2.4 lightyears away"
The people of the United Hawk Alliance of course knew that there were alian species in the galaxy, many alien species, but this was the first time a Hawk ship had detected a alien ship.
"Alter course, once we're within two AU's, drop out of warp and stand-by hailing frequencies" Elizabeth ordered

On the Eastern Fringe, a large ship now sat in place by the energy readings. The PFS Donau, a Yamato-II Class Super Dreadnought, had been assigned the 'honour' of keeping watch on the strange readings.

Captain Harker, commander of the ground forces that called the Donau home, stood in his quarters, watching the space where the readings were coming from. He pondered what.

"I know you're in here" he said suddenly, speaking to the emptiness. For a second, it appeared he was slightly paranoid. But then a noise came from the far wall, and a person with a slender figure, dressed in a suit that matched the colour of the wall, stepped towards him. It pressed a button on it's wrist, and the suit changed colour to black, making it plainly visible. The person removed their mask, revealing it to be a woman with blonde hair. She pulled the pin out of her hair, which had been tied back so that she could wear the mask

"Still watching those readings, Captain?" she asked, leaning on his shoulder and watching the empty space with him

"Yes, Ariel, i'm still watching" he replied "I don't know. It's just a spacial disturbance, what's the big fuss about?"

She made a face of mock sympathy, at which they both chuckled quietly

"Drop out of Warp" Elizabeth ordered and the Valiant slowled to impulse "Have they detected us?"
"I'm not sure, they've not moved towards us" Vaughn commented.
"Don't hail them yet" Elizabeth ordered "Full sensor sweep of the area"

The Polyxena (http://z13.invisionfree.com/Chazakain_Storefront/index.php?showtopic=30) drifted through space, its crew busily monitoring the probes they sent out half a day before through the nearby wormhole entrance.
"Alpha Gamma 1 has found another planet, gas giant, 5 moons, no life readings past single cells."
"Alpha Delphinia 1 presecretion plantery system and protostar."
"Alpha Zeta 1 has been lost."
"Alpha Beta 3 is detecting strange energy readings from Quadrant 2, subsection Omega one niner"
"Zeta Gamma is detecting a small red dwarf, no planets, asteroid field 1.2 AUs distance."
"..."

The Captain of the ship looked up from his own readings, "What did Alpha Beta 3 find?"
"An anonymous energy reading sir, probably just a corno ejection."
"Put it up."
Fxero looked at the hologram project of Quadrant 2, subsection Omega one niner, noting the small movements. "How fast is that going?"
"probe can not say sir, but it seems to be going past the speed of..."
"Light?"
"Yes."
"Order the probe to investigate and prepare the crew we go through the wormhole within the hour..."

Elizabeth had retreated to her quarters for an hour whilst the scans run, she picked up a book and began to read it.

Some time after Ariel and Harker had spoken about the readings, he was sat in his quarters again, watching the disturbance, a half-empty glass of whiskey in his hand. He ran his hands through his white hair and thought about anything and everything. There was a knock at his door. With a a flick of his wrist, the door opened and Ariel stuck her head through the door

"New readings from that disturbance of yours" she said "Professer Warner suggests you come have a look"

Slowly, he picked himself up and followed her down the metal corridors to the research lab. Professer Warner, a old man in his sixties, stood in front of a large screen, with numerous different readings on. When Ariel and Harker entered, he smiled and greeted them, though Harker decided not to return his smile

"Ah, Captain" he said "The readings have changed, as you can see"

He indicated the readings

"And?" Harker asked "What is your scientific conclusion?"

"Well Captain, I beleive it is a ship manipulating the warp" Warner told him

"Those energy readings are nothing like those that a Warp-Drive gives off" Harker said, inspecting the readings more closely

"Not modern ones, no" Warner said "But a rudimentary one perhaps? I cross referenced the readings with that from our early Warp-Drives, and the results are remarkably similar"

He removed his glasses and stepped to the window

"James" he began "I believe we are on the verge of communication with a new civilisation"

Captain to the Bridge The ship system announced
Minutes later Elizabeth was on the bridge
"Report" She ordered
"We've just been scanned again" Jane Baxter, Scinece officer reported.
"THat ship out there is slowly heading towards us" Jenny added
"Open hailin frequencies, time to test out the Universial translator" Elizabeth commented. THe comm officer nodded and the comm line was open.
"Greetings, I am Captain Elizabeth Langely, Of the UPS Valiant" Elizabeth simply said

On the Bridge of the Donau, the scanners detected an incoming transmission

"It appears to be in English, sir" one of Harker's aide's told him

"Well, that's a start" Harker said "Tune into their hailing frequency"

The aide ajusted the dials on his workstation, and gave Harker a thumbs-up. Harker touched his wrist-device and spoke

"Captain Langley, I Am Captain James Harker, Commander of the PFS Donau. Welcome to Ustio Space" he said to her

A smile broke out on Elizabeths face as the other ship replied
"Thank you Captain" She said "Do you have visual capabilities?"

"We do, Captain" he said, motioning to an aide to turn the screen on. Elizabeth's face appeared on screen, and he assumed his had done too

"Pleased to meet you" he said

"The same to you" Elizabeth replied as Jame's face appeared on the Valiant's viewscreen "We are the first explorers from our planet, this is our first contact"

"Well, then on behalf of the United Planetary Federation I bid you welcome and congratulations" James said to her. He was briefly distracted by one of the Aides

"Sir, the President is on line two" he whispered "He wishes to speak to the Captain of the ship"

"Well put him on then" Harker told him

The screen split in two, and Harker's face moved to the side as the shape of a man appeared. He was shrouded in shadow, and his face was impossible to see

"You must be Captain Langley. I am President Zeltan, President Of The Ustio System. It is an honour to meet you" he said

"President Zeltan it is an honour to meet you" Elizabeth replied

"Sir Alpha Beta 3 is picking up something. A transmission from the energy ready. patching it through."
"Gre.. ..ames Harke.. ..PFS Donau.."
"Time to wormhole Rxero?"
"10 minutes captain."
"Grh What type is the probe?"
"A T-012 Sir, and they aren't designed for what your thinking captain."

10 minutes later

The Polyxena activated its Babel Grommet sphere contained within its confines stretching the wormhole's mouth for an instant and allowing the ship passage...

Baxter frowned as she picked up unusual sensors readings to port, he sent a text message through the console systems to the XO

"President Zeltan it is an honour to meet you" Elizabeth replied

"Likewise Captain" Zeltan said "If you would like to dock with the Donau, i'm sure Captain Harker will be able to set up a guided tour of the system for you"

With that, his image vanished, leaving only Harker on screen

"Uhh, yes, i'd be glad to" he said, regaining his composure

"Is that acceptable Captain Harker?" Elizabeth asked

He thought a moment before replying

"We should talk off the comms system" he said "I'll make docking bay 7 available for you"

"Of course" Elizabeth said "Valiant out"
The viewscreen went back to the starfield
"Helm, dock us" Elizabeth ordered turning to her Xo, who told her what Baxter found "Well with that and the curious comment Captain Harker just made, take us to yellow alert, keep an eye our for anything interesting and contact me if you find anything"

The Valiant manovoured to the docking port and gently docked. Elizabeth waited for iy to pressurise before walking through and stepping onto the other ship
