Kostemetsia

An RP set about two hundred and ten years ago (2790) in the chronology of my nation, when it was not, strictly speaking, my nation, but rather the United Terran Authority from which my nation split.
It will be a mainly character-based RP - the Terran liner ACS Avalon One is on the leg of its trip going from Gliese 876 to TOC 1394, which is later to be known as Phan Cha, the Kostemetsian capital system. Avalon One, however, has a dirty secret: the upper decks form a luxury liner for the richest Terrans, while the lower decks are the cramped confines in which a cargo of illegally-imprisoned involuntary transportees and their families are being taken to Phan Cha to be sold to the slavers working for the large corporations which run operations there. Incidentally, another cargo being sold to the slavers is armaments.
However, in a large disruption of standard operations, pirates out of Fomalhaut attack the Avalon One, knocking it out of quantum space on its vector past Fomalhaut in order to relieve it of its armaments cargo. When the Avalon One's defence systems are deployed, a few of the attackers are summarily destroyed and the rest decide discretion is the better part of valour; however, the Avalon One is now stuck out here in sub-interstellar space, with only Fomalhaut nearby. The new objective is to get to Fomalhaut on sublight, which will take perhaps a month.
Some of the less open-minded pseudocrats from the upper decks take the opportunity to exact punishment on the engineers. Unfortunately for them, they take a wrong turning, end up attempting to make a family of trafficked-people their personal slaves, and are summarily lynched by the rest of the suddenly-free cargo. The upper decks and the lower decks now know about each other. Bloody conflict breaks out as the pseudocrats loot the cargo of armaments in order to exact unearned death on the transportees, who they feel are lowering the upper decks' value-for-money index. Do keep in mind that this is the way Earth operates these days - a tiny fraction are the administration, a slightly larger faction are the insane corporate aristocrats, and the rest are the relatively sane but virtually (and in some cases literally) enslaved masses.
In any case, the transportees feel obliged to fight back. Ship security is of about equal strength to the two battling factions, but all it can do is simply make the tiny war three-front. The gargantuan liner's command staff are faced with the fact that they will not survive to Fomalhaut if this continues, and sends out a distress call.
As far as metaconcepts go, preset factions available for roleplaying are the upper decks and ship's security. Representatives of other nations are also quite welcome, although this will be a rather bloodstained first contact and the upper decks will try to murder you while the lower decks will try to wheedle you into an alliance. Ship's security will ask you to escort them to Fomalhaut. Each faction has a single main comms unit which will light up the sky on pretty much any electromagnetic scan; it's up to you who you contact first and what you choose to do from there.
