Hello all! I just restarted my Islamic nation of Ghassan, and I wanted to know if anyone would be interested in taking it on as a colony. It was a former colony of the British Londinium, but when Londinium was destroyed, it lacked the resources to contain itself.

Anyone interested?

((OOC: If you decide to be a nation instead of a colony, we could probably have a war. A bit of Arab-Israel, if you see what I mean.))

I'll ally you in the war probably but I'll see maybe I'll attack. I don't know. It's too early for me to decide.

Oi, I would love to have someone RP a "Property Abroad" of mine (and to get a new one) but I don't really see how to justify letting your country be in the state it's in if we, more or less, own you and martial law has been in effect (as it would be). If there are some things you're willing to change a little, then it might work out. Your liberation group would probably have a field day once they transferred into Santherese military power, I'm sure.

Edit: Of course, most things, even those that offend Santherese sensibilities, would be left well enough alone since we also value culture and letting people stick to theirs (to a point). The HR violations, I think, would just have to toned down a little due to the prevalence of police ... or at least have a very, very corrupt local police force. So, actually possibly very little to change, huh. Maybe some more public works in more areas, I think. We'd try to improve the area, but with very little funding.

My nation would gladly take yours on as a colony, because they wouldn't be too concerned about what you did. They'd also be willing to suppress your guerrilla group with brutal force.

Basically, as long as you followed colonial law (different from national law, since it applies to colonies), payed taxes, and allowed any military presence we wanted, we would basically leave you alone. We would sink money into public works, for both your benefit and mine, but leave the brunt of your culture intact. Dekho nationals would have to be exempt from Hammurabi-like punishments, though they could be sent back to Dekho and punished there according to our interpretation of the crime.

Well I think I have two main courses of action, so let me know what you think.

First of all, the liberation would be squashed, and the remaining British Londinium forces would be executed as traitors to the Ghassani culture. Then, it would retain its former structure, but would be a bit more stable, at least not mentioning its poverty and other stuff. Then there would be mock elections, and a 'new leader' would be elected, that would be a bit more left leaning. He would pledge Ghassan to become a place of prosperity and to improve its world standing.

To make that pact, he would take on a colonial power in order to build it and improve its infrastructure. Unfortunately, the once northern volatile region erupts again as a staging ground for terrorists who are bent on enforcing Sharia law. After a series of attacks in other 'neutral' races, troops arrive in order to detain and police the developing nation. After a series of skirmishes, war looms with the two sides. Ghassan and its colonial support, against the countries that wish to solve its problems by their own intervention.

That works for me. have you made any "colonizer" choices yet?

Well I guess whatever works. Do you, or any of the others have a link to their factbooks or any examples of their roleplaying?

I never made much of a factbook. I'll put up some info.

Nation basic terrain: temperate woodlands and plains, coast
Population: 380 million
Semi-democratic monarchy: a new dynasty is elected every three generations. Crown Prince Aristo is due to be crowned king soon, having recently been elected, and will form the first generation of the new dynasty when he starts a family. There are also Traditional and Economic Nobles.
economy: strong
freedoms: good civil rights, few political freedoms (so we can stomach your nation's similar trend)
Economic focus: manufacturing, agriculture
Military: big (bigger than real-life America) and technologically advanced
Intelligence: constantly meddling but very active and useful and highly funded
Religion: there is a list of approved religions, no official state religion

nice book. I don't have that much time on my hands. Dekho is essentially politically moderate- always has been.

I think that I am going to go with San, only because it is easier for me to craft the roleplay if I have a definite idea of where we are and what is going on in both nations. I'm sorry if that disappoints, but I welcome everyone else to participate in the roleplay :)

I know, I'm just that neutral.

I was waiting for you to come here and post with me Kirav! And yes, I'd be glad to accept your colonial protection, based on our history!
