One of Astholm's major automobile manufacturers, Fiat-Salbruz, launched the new Sabbia today.

The Sabbia is based on the Fiat Uno platform but is a size up from the Uno.

It is available as a three- or five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and five-door wagon.

Engines are 1.1, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 petrol engines, with a choice of 1.7 and 1.9 diesel engines, plus a 1.7 turbodiesel is available too.

Sabbia means "sand" in Italian, and this car is aimed at those wanting a stylish car - but on a budget.

Prices and specifications are set to be announced in due course.

Exports to any nation are able to commence now.

Fiat-Salbruz has announced a new 999cc 1.0-litre model will also be offered on the Sabbia range.

The Sabbia will fit in between the Uno and Punto for size, making it a "mid-size supermini/subcompact". A sort of automotive no-man's-land, but a good one nonetheless.

Only one motoring review so far from our local press:
The Fiat-Salbruz Sabbia is a decent car, better than Fiats in the days of yore, and is more fun than a Peugeot 2013 or Suzuki Calmus. The 1.6 ie SX 5-door is the best model, but most will go for the 1.4 iE S 5-door.
