Foreland

The Free People's Republic of Foreland was one of the many republics that existed in the world but it had never really introduced itself to the world like it had ought to - if one was to trust the words of Consul Isabella Cullen who rose to power in a sweeping election on a platform reeking of the scent of Gaullism. It had only been recently that the Free People's Republic was told that Isabella had won the recent election and it had also only been recently that Isabella announced plans to make her nation truly a home for all lovers of liberty and freedom - often invoking the spirit of the French Revolution while going along the campaign trail. Her rivals were, as commentators said, simply unable to counter her fiery persona. The incumbent government silently waltzed out of Congress with nothing but hopes that they could take back control while Isabella's first act in office was to strengthen the Republic's military - in her words, it was the bulwark of liberty and freedom.
Isabella's party was simply known as the National Republican Movement and it had campaigned on a platform of intense anti-Communism coupled with an fiery devotion to preserving the Republic from foreign threats such as Communism and illegal immigrants. Many of the citizens had enthusiastically voted for Isabella during the election - her words were golden wisdom to them. Once the election ended, the people went back to work, and Isabella had a chance to sit privately with her ministers, the question of what is to be done next came up to them. The Council of Ministers had served the Republic since it was born in the 1800s when a group of enthusiasts for various forms of the republican idea - from Ancient Rome to the United States - had formed a nation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs - an Anglo-French woman named Leah Miller -was the first to speak about what should be done for the Republic. She rose from her seat in a lovely suit that accented her figure while exposing some of her cleavage which wasn't much but still tempting nonethless. "Ministers," she began, "It is essential that we open relations with the world but we must always be on watch for the Communist menace which is the natural opponent of liberty."
The others nodded in agreement. She continued: "There are many nations which we have shown some interest in as past meetings between us have shown. I would hope that you would all, for example, aspire to open relations with Lamoni. Like us, they are a republic formed on the will of the masses."
The Consul spoke next. "What about those nations which subscribe to monarchism? The President's wife came from one if memory serves me right."
Leah smiled. "Not all monarchies are bred on the idea that the monarch is superior to his people and, indeed, there are numerous monarchies which have rights and liberties for every citizen. We should open relations with all nations but be wary of those who subscribe to Communism. We have already shown the masses, have we not, that Communism is the ideology of hypocrites and tyrants?"
The ministers all nodded in agreement again. Leah sat down again and left the floor to the Consul who was clad in one of those very expensive suits you'd find at only the best of fashion designers. Her long legs were possibly covered with stockings and her hair was tied up in a bun. Her eyes looked calmly upon the silent ministers and her perfectly aligned teeth shined. "Ministers," she began, "Miss Miller's platform must be taken to heart. While we do not discriminate against nations for not believing in the Republican model as we ourselves have done for decades, we must not allow any single Communist to take even a single house in our nation. If any Communist invades then no mercy must be given. Unless they are prisoners of war - let us convert them through good works. Something they've always lacked."
The ministers laughed a little. They always emphasized the brutality of Communism in the world whereever it could be found but they didn't believe other governments were immune to this sort of brutality. The Consul adjusted her blouse and paced around the room with her eyes looking over to see the ministers silent again. She looked squarely upon Leah and smiled. Almost grinned. She loved Leah. Not in a lesbian sort of way but in a way that suggested she was grateful to have such a devoted minister - someone she could trust without worrying if they were going to backstab them. "Miller, I desire nothing more than for you to write up a letter to send to all the nations of the world. Be courteous to any Communist nation that responds. If any Communist nation dares invade us, then we will fight until the clock strikes thirteen. I sort of like that quote."
The Minister of Defence rose from his seat. Thomas Wilson was born from one of the old British based families that immigrated to Foreland long when it was just a little infant of a nation and his family had often served in some field involving the armed forces. He was wearing one of his uniforms with his slicked back hair underneath his officer's hat. He looked handsome but stern. He was a sort of man woman would love but also fear - perhaps at the same time if that was possible. As he rose from his seat, he had been talking: "We'll fight them no matter how many of their dogs they send over to our shores. We come from a long line of fighters. Miss Miller's mother was born of the French stock and we all know that Joan of Arc, an icon of liberty, came from the French. Ironically I, born of Englishmen, praise Joan. That's irrelevant, though. Now, I think we'll make sure all of our defense mechanisms are in perfect order."
It did not take long for the ministers to disperse into doing whatever they wanted. Some of them went to relax at a cafe or went home to their wives and children. Leah Miller went zealously to work on a communique to send to the world while the Minister of Defense decided it would be best to analyze the armed forces. As for the Consul, Isabella Cullen decided it would be a good idea to head over to a spa for relaxation. They had many of them all over Foreland. Walking down the steps of the complex where the meeting had been held, she noticed that some of the citizens walking past the complex were waving - she waved back to them as she got into her limosuine. She loved that the people were putting their trust in her and she hoped she would serve them well. "Drive." She said simply to her chauffer who proceeded to drive to the nearest spa.
Leah Miller's post-meeting routine consisted of nothing more than looking over the message she had concocted in her mind. It was the usual formula of peace and good will so many nations had relied upon over the years. She just sent it in before heading to a nearby cafe for a light snack. Perhaps things would get interesting, she thought, at least she hoped they would. Soon enough, the newspapers began reporting the following: "The Free People's Republic introduces itself to the world!"
OOC:
1. No invasions by any (especially Communist) nations please.
2. Assume you've all be sent the usual message.
3. Any threads/posts made by Foreland prior to this thread's creation are now null and void.
