Hey I'm an uber noob at this so help me out.

I want to start an RPG here called 45 days, which takes place in a fictional Alaska town called Morrisburg. The premise is that the residents are under attack from mysterious enemies called the Others. They have to wait 45 days for US army forces to arrive for an unexplained reason and they are fighting to defend their lives.

The Others are basically weak Humanoids with advanced technology. They are however supported by zombie-like soldiers called the dogs that are only trained for combat and eat humans.

So help me out, how may I start something and can you do a backstory?

This is your backstory so far:

"I want to start an RPG here called 45 days, which takes place in a fictional Alaska town called Morrisburg. I can poke holes in it if you'd like
But it seems to be a re-hash of "30 days of night", "Dog-soldiers", and "Lost".

Plus, put it in your own country, or some crappy protectate of your nation.
Trying to think of a reason why it would take US more than 15 working-days to get anyone ANYWHERE seems kinda far-fetched, unless that place happens to be the moon...
inventing an early flaw into your fledgeling military's ability to respond is generally much more acceptable (and encouraged, as you really don't want to be liek DMG).

Anyways, if the reason for the delay is unknown, how would they know how long it would take to get around it?

How about you say that they (the people trapped) are on an island and try to call some people who aren't on the island, but communications are down. They don't know what is going on for about a week, and then they receive a refugee from the mainland who tells them that a big war happened there, either from rebels or an attacking nation.

After another two weeks, they receive word that the communications are restored and the enemy has been defeated without many further losses. They call in to the main land, but the soldiers are busy restoring the country and cannot mount a large enough force to repel the invaders and evacuate the islanders for a few more weeks.

You don't have to use that, but you can. The rest of the problems, you can work out. There are a couple of zombie stories out there already, but good luck.
