OOC: Lundastal is under new management. All previous threads and posts are hereby null and void.

Despite the series of reforms gradually enacted by various leaders over the span of two centuries, the Kingdom of Lundastal had retained its feudal traditions under the auspieces of Reformist Monarchists who were believers in a combination of feudal and Enlightenment ideas such as the King ruling with the people's consent and that the King was the guardian of the people's rights.

It was during the reign of Alaric the Fifth that the proposal to secure diplomatic ties with other nations had arisen out of the Royal Court and it had been met with enthusiastic support from both ministers and citizens. Alaric VI did not live to see his proclamation bear any fruits due to a fatal heart attack at his beloved chateau. It turned out that the proclamation was but a mere part of the King's project to maintain the status quo in the face of democratic pressure groups seeking the gradual removal of the feudal system and of royal absolutism in favor of constitutional monarchism.

The ascension of Alaric VII to the throne had shattered any hopes for the royal support of democratic reform but no protests except the occassional park gathering had occured in the cities of the realm. As the King unveiled his support for her father's project, Lundastal began to experience significant growth with the rise of a new interest in foreign cultures.

An embassy district was constructed in the capital of the realm, Odon, while educators began inquiring into possible student exchange programs with other nations. The Royal Family even discussed the prospect of marriages with foreign dynasties especially when Alaric VII's heir was discussed. There was once a meeting of ministers at the Royal Palace which had been convened by the King for the purpose of discussing external affairs. Dressed hastily in his finest attire avaliable after he had made love to Queen Consort Marienbard in the afternoon, King Alaric VII took charge of the situation. "We are gathered here to discuss diplomacy with foreign nations."

Tancred Calcos was the first to speak since he had been the Foreign Minister of the realm since the King's father had reigned and since he had been one of the foremost politicians of the realm in general. Supportive of the idea of foreign relations and of the general project, Calcos urged the other ministers to stand loyal with their monarch in a well made speech. The next person to speak was the First Minister of the realm. First Ministers generally were the second most powerful politicians in Lundastal. He supported the King's project and said that it would be very beneficial to Lundastal. The other ministers just happened to support the project and the King was ecstatic when he saw this development. "We shall write up a proclamation to the world. Lundastal shall open itself to the world!"

The ministers dispersed afrer the King had finished his brief patriotic speech and either went to their offices to work or to their mansions where they could relax and wait for news about the proclamation. Calcos went immediately to work on writing a draft while the First Minister enjoyed a chat with His Majesty before the King took his leave of the First Minister to help his youngest son build his model of a medieval knight.

The Queen Consort could be seen having tea with her daughters while the heir to the throne, Prince Clovis of Lundastal, was laughing with his friends from his boarding school. They would visit the Palace when they had the chance and would enjoy themselves in various ways such as by spraying Clovis' sisters with water guns or making fun of fellow students who weren't around to defend themselves.

Tancred Calcos sat in his office with the window slightly open to give him a cool breeze as he finished the final draft of the proclamation. It had the appearance of a true and official royal document and was stamped with the Great Seal of Lundastal as all royal documents had been. He handed the message to his secretary for her to send before heading off to a cafe to get a light lunch.

Subject: The Royal Proclamation in Support of International Diplomacy

Leaders of the world,

It brings me great pleasure to announce that Lundastal has opened its doors to your ambassadors in the spirit of friendship and international brotherhood between our nations. We open our schools to your students, our minds to your cultures, and our hearts to the idea that we may be friends no matter what differences may exist. His Majesty expresses his belief in the irrelevent nature of ideological politics when it comes to making new friends.

An embassy district has been opened in our capital and is fully ready to accomodate your ambassadors and their families. The district is located near cafes and has access to hospitals in case of emergencies or pregnancies. Your ambassadors and their loved ones are more than welcome to explore the capital but only on the condition that they respect and abide by our laws and customs as our own ambassadors would do in your own nations.

Should you decide that it would be truly beneficial to create a student exchange program between our nations, our schools are fully ready to accept your applicants. Our nation emphasizes the equal balance of discipline and fun when it comes to schooling our children and be assured that we have a variety of schools for your students to choose from. Host families are held to the highest standard.

We are also supportive of the creation of cultural exchange programs which will allow our nations the opportunity to learn about each other's cultures. Lundastal is a tolerant nation and shall not permit the harassment of any foreign tourist. Tourists from all nations are welcome to visit our nation. We have a myriad of landmarks for you to choose from depending on your desires.

His Majesty would also not mind meeting fellow national leaders should an audience with him be requested. If you are a monarch and are considering a royal marriage with a member of the Royal Family of Lundastal, please make a note with His Majesty on the notion. His Majesty will review all proposals for royal marriages in accordance with royal laws. The royalty of your nations are more than welcome to visit Lundastal at their leisure.

We hope that this message reaches you all well and that the new year is filled with nothing but prosperity and peace.

Signed,
Tancred Calcos,
Foreign Minister,

President,

We are glad that the Republic of Ayrira has decided to open relations with our beloved nation despite the ideological differences. As soon as we had recieved the letter from your office, the Kingdom of Lundastal immediately procured a lot for your nation in our embassy district. Once you have a suitable ambassador in your midst, he or she is more than welcome to take up residence at the said lot.

A meeting with His Majesty can easily be secured. During such a meeting, you may discuss trade and diplomacy along with a student exchange/cultural program. We look forward to further correspondence.

Count Ladomér Berta had ruled the Fiefdom of Isapolis since he was thirty five years old. He was presently fifty-five years old. He was the third person in the Berta line to rule and he was also listed among the most popularly supported Counts of Isapolis in history.

He had been at breakfast with his family when Foreign Minister David Sörös had brought him a message, informing him of an interesting telegram from Lundastal. He ordered that it be left on his desk, in his private office, so he could read it later, and continued to enjoy his time with his wife and children. Later when he read the telegram he called back Sörös in order to confer with him and decide what reply, if any, should be sent.

Eventually, the Count sent away the Foreign Minister, having made a decision.

For: Tancred Calcos, Foreign Minister, the Kingdom of Lundastal
From: David Sörös, Foreign Minister, the County of Isapolis

Minister,

My lord and master, His Lordship the Count Ladomér Berta of Isapolis, commands that a reply be sent to a telegram you have recently sent to the nations of the world, offering ties in the diplomatic stratum, cultural exchanges and potential marriage alliances.

My lord the Count has decided that a formal embassy should be sent to Lundastal at once. He also has expressed interest at possible cultural exchanges, though he desires that these kinds of programs be conducted, at least initially, on a probationary level.

For the last possibility you mentioned, His Lordship wishes to make a suggestions.

He will send his eldest daughter, the Lady Katalin Berta to Odon with the embassy so she may interact with the King’s heir, whom we understand to be nearing adulthood, as she is in order to see if any liaison is achievable.

I eagerly await a reply.

Regards,
FM David Sörös

Minister,

It was a pleasure to have read your nation's reply to the official proclamation which we had sent out to all the leaders of the world. Rest assured that we are in full support of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Isapolis and Lundastal.

We have always secured an open lot for your ambassador in our capital city's embassy district which you are free to build your embassy upon whenever you are ready to have it built. A cultural exchange at the probationary level is acceptable to us as well.

We have also notified Prince Clovis of Lundastal of the possibility that he may meet the Lady Katalin and he is quite anxious to meet the said Lady Katalin whenever she is avaliable. She may come to Lundastal to meet him at the best possible time.

Signed,
Tancred Calcos,
Foreign Minister.

OOC: Mind to create the thread for the meeting, Isapolis? The opening post can just be Katalin landing at the airport.

OOC: For all those who are wondering, Lundastal is a somewhat feudal kingdom - a sort of Ancien Regime (Pre-Revolutionary) France which has reduced the power of the aristocrats and so forth but, which, still retains plenty of the things that've left many a peasant scorned. However - Lundastal's people usually support the absolute monarchy and only a few will actually publically declare support for its abolition. I think semi-feudal would be a proper term for use when describing Lundastal.

OOC - Semi-feudal? So do local lords still police their own domains? And perhaps maintain their own private militias? I smell a market... ;)

OOC: That would have probably been abolished when the Kings decided it would be best to centralize authority in the Crown rather than having possibly treasonous aristocrats running rampant with their little private militias. Whether or not the local lords police their own domains - which they largely do not - there's still a chance a market can be found. If you're planning to make any proposals, feel free to contact His Majesty's Government.

OOC: I'll take a peek through your wares and perhaps I may find some items to purchase from you. I just hope that I don't have to end up using the weapons, if any, that I'd buy from you. Lundastal is quite devoted to the idea that war must be a last resort and its military is focused on defense rather than sailing the seven seas just to find their latest opponent.
