Ixania - Studio Ravenclaw has announced that they plan to release their newest animated project to the world market after the epic success of Ixanian anime abroad. An avid fan of detective fiction, Nikolai Vlasov has created an animated series about the life and times of an emotionless detective who seeks to forget his troubling past. The series, Secrets, is the story of Demetrios Askiates, a detective best known for his bluntness, his ruthless approach to solving crimes and his witty quotes. Askiates, the series reveals, is the brother of a girl murdered in the sixties and that her death propelled him to become a detective. Despite his legendary talent, many people have problems with the way he interacts with people and will often comment on this trait. In response, Askiates doesn't seem to care. With his assistant, Valora, Askiates solves crimes from murders to kidnappings and does so with a ruthless and emotionless approach. He has shown a willingness to ignore the feelings of victims and suspects but has usually shown a soft spot only for children and battered women; some say it's attributed to the loss of his sister in the sixties. A picture of his sister can be seen on his desk and, usually, he'll be found staring at it in silent contemplation. Askiates is the descendant of a Byzantine gentleman and often speaks in Ixanian, German, Russian, and Medieval Greek. He is an agnostic intellectual, loves music and art, and doesn't mind criticizing and harassing people he knows.
The series was created in 2006 and has remained popular since the first graphic novel and episode had appeared. It has remained an icon of the animated mystery genre with its emotionless detective and his cronies which include a femme fatale assistant and a headstrong policeman getting into all sorts of cases. Askiates' trademark quotes such as Everybody Dies and We Are All Sinners can be found on shirts and mentioned in books. His idea that life is but a board game is often spoofed and referenced. Psychologists have used him as an example in their work. Askiates is basically depicted as a handsome man with significant problems ranging from a possible antisocial outlook on life ("Life sucks - and sometimes humanity just makes it worse.") to his feelings about his sister's death which the series often shows him being tormented with. When asked why he made this anime with its tagline (it became one of Askiates' quotes) of Everyone Has Secrets, Nikolai Vlasov said: "I wanted to make an anime different than all the rest. I didn't want to rely on mainstream ideas."
The adventures of Demetrios Askiates have been so well loved by many fans of Ixanian animation that a movie was made about him in 2008. The movie was filmed in live action and was very popular with fans and non-fans of the acclaimed series. Political events around the world are also mentioned in the series with its 2006-2007 run. Askiates does not mind making his opinions known even if they are controversial and he is also well known for his coldhearted analysis of events. He hates "sugarcoating humanity" and putting the world under rose tinted glasses. To him, it's best to accept the world as it is ("We live in a cruel world.") and those who do not are cowards. The series also includes the detective's visions of his childhood which he often experiences from time to time. Demetrios Askiates will never cease to forget his sister according to Vlasov who said that his sister is the driving force behind his desire to fight crime. Without remembrance of her life and death, he is devoid of motivation in his work.
The series can be violent and does contain some sexual scenes but not too much to give it the scorn of moralists and parents. Teenagers have often said that they like the series for a myriad of reasons including the possibility of a romantic relationship between Demetrios and Valora, the character of Demetrios Askiates himself, and the relationships between the rest of the cast. Adults also watch the series as well according to statistics. Demetrios Askiates was cited as one of Ixania's Top Fifty Favorite Animation Characters in a recent survey with his position above Zaneta of Labyrinth fame. Vlasov said that Demetrios' sister was inspired by Zaneta and that he omitted the Heaven part in order to have the series focus more on the earthly relationship between Demetrios and his usually nameless sister that appears in flashbacks. His sister was given the name of Zora Askiates around the last episodes of the series and her story is gradually revealed over the course of the series. When Askiates is asked about his thoughts on his sister's death, he simply says: "Curiosity killed the cat."
When asked about his thoughts on whether or not the series would be successful in the world market, Vlasov said: "Who knows what will happen? Even if it is only picked up by some or even just a few, I'll be happy knowing that they took the time to see it."
OOC: Basically, this newest Ixanian anime is a combination of famous detectives such as Sherlock Holmes with everyone's favorite Vicodin-popping, cane wielding diagnostician, Dr. House, from the show House MD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_MD). I got the idea for this from an essay that compared Sherlock Holmes to Gregory House. Basically, like before, just post reviews and what not here - it's an anime about a detective who has the mind of a detective like Holmes but acts like House.
And, yes, Ixania makes all sorts of animation. We don't just make anime.
