The Vertana War (MT, Open)

Gibberish America
31-12-2008, 22:57
OOC: This is a combination of the Vietnam War and a bunch of Cold War Latin American conflicts.

The Republic of Vertana is a socialist state ruled by Nicaraguan-Vietnamese dictator Roberto Granuja Nguyen. In recent years, the Vertana government was charged with selling arms to drug traffickers and rebels in Latin America. Granuja has denied this statement and as a result, he has declared martial law and expelled all foreigners. If that wasn't enough, the military launched an assault towards the USGA territory of San Esperito. Consequently, the USGA and Mexilando retaliated by sending military forces to the Caribbean. The Mexilando Marine Corps and USGA Army deployed in the island in a desperate act of defense.

In an official statement by President Schmidt, the government has called for foreign support in combatting the Vertanan Army and supporting the guerrilla group People's Liberation Army of Vertana, which has launched a revolutionary war against Granuja.

The Vertanian Southern Rainforests...

The Mexilando Marine Corps 5th Battallion headed into the jungle in their UH-1N Huey choppers and landed in the dense forests. Captain Miguel Guzman's company headed into the dense jugnle armed with M16A1 assault rifles.

"Ve! Ve! Ve! Mueva a la posicion!

The infantry grunts ran into the dense vegetation with their rifles at hand, digging in at the mouth of the valley.

General Fidel Romero ordered a battallion of 1,000 soldiers of the Vertanian People's Army to tackle the Mexilando battallion. The troops, from their base in a jungle cave, moved to the Mexilando positions armed with AK-47s at hand on foot. Their strategy was to break through the Marines' lines in order to clear a path for the troop transports which would further intensify the battle. A group of UAZ 469 jeeps and Capuchin guntrucks were standing by to bring more troops into the battlezone.

"This is General Romero. Colonel Nguyen, I need your men to break through the Mexican lines before midday. If we cannot do that, the Mexilando Marine Corps will be able to wreak havoc on our jungle supply lines. You hear me?"

"Si, General. We'll hit the Chicanos where it hurts. Viva Granuja! Viva Vertana!"

The first platoon of VPA troops rushed forward to the Marines' positions under the cover of PKM gunners in the thick underbrush.

0900 Hours...

The VPA forces landed at the port of Ciudad de Capitalismo, the capital of San Esperito. Police forces exchanged fire with the VPA troops, causing tremendous VPA casualties. Civilians even took arms against the VPA forces to defend their homeland. However, the VPA overwhelmed the city and the resistance forces were forced to retreat into the mountains. Those who remained were subject to martial law under the VPA, who vandalized and looted buildings around town. The resistance, consisting of civilian paramilitary and police forces, was organized into the Fuerzas Armadas de San Esperito (FASE), armed with police and hunting weapons. Few VPA vehicles and equipment were stolen as the guerrillas reorganized.

"Enemigos en la selva! Tiranles!", a Marine captain shouted as the Marines opened M16A1 and M60E4 fire on the oncoming VPA troops. As the waves of troops were converging on their location, more Marines put their fire into the VPA troops. Each side had about the same number of troops. However, the VPA was sustaining more casualties. Why was this? A number of reasons were at hand. Despite the fact the VPA had more determination fighting for its homeland, the VPA consisted of poorly trained conscripts who relied on common sense or the CO's instruction to survive. After the Marines caused enough casualties on the VPA side, the VPA NCOs lost the will to fight and ordered their men to retreat. Some followed their orders, while others argued or disobeyed their commanders as a sign of loyalty to their homeland. After seeing the first assault wave being wiped out, Colonel Nguyen ordered the second wave to weaken the Marines along with reinforcements from the VPA guerrilla unit, or GV.

A group of Mexilando F/A-18 Hornets were flying in with cluster bombs ready to deter the VPA assault. The squadron leader replied, "I read you, Guzman. Coming in for close air support, over."

As the Hornets approached, they unleashed their payloads onto the infantry with cluster bombs, taking down the trees and many men below.

"Guzman, this is Falcon One. We've hit the second wave. We'll leave it to you to finish them off."

"Jefe, the Mexicans are coming at us with air strikes! We need interceptors on our six!"

"I read you. MiG-17s are coming in on your location."

Shortly afterward, a squadron of MiG-17 Frescos were hot on the trail of the Hornets. The pilots, instead of firing on sight, kept flying in awe of their air inferiority. However, they were fighting enemy jets fitted for ground support, not air superiority. So, they opened AAM fire and let bursts of 23mm cannon onto the F-18s.

[ooc: Is it alright if I do some black operations? The plan is that there's a "package" that was misplaced after a informant sold out the KGB operatives.]

Veblensk

The Premier, unlike previous ones, did not have portraits of herself in random places, so it was possible for her to go outside and not immediately be recognized. She could, in fact, pass as any female SRCP citizen in her late 20's or early '30s. She was sitting in a small coffee shop near the industrial sector of town, waiting to meet with the Director of the KGB and the head of GRU.

After the 2 others arrived, they discussed the incident, and what they were to do about it.

"Premier, we could either try to solve this diplomatically-"

Both the Premier and GRU leader interrupted.

"It'd be pretty hard to retrieve the package though, and there's the chance that the Vertanans, Espertans or Americans could get a hold of it. The Stonehenge project is too valuable, especially now, to lose those documents. Within a few years, the Americans will be able to land troops anywhere in the globe within a few hours, and while it may not directly affect us, it's still a threat."

The head of GRU added:

"Not only that, it would enhance our air defense....ICBM's, SLBM's, other kinds of Ballistic Missiles, aircraft, even things in low orbit." he said, flipping through the pages of a news paper left by a previous customer.

The KGB director then said: "I suppose you both are right. But Viktoria has the final say in the matter."

The Premier thought about it for a minute. If it was indeed a covert operation, they could deny it ever happened. They'd have very little proof in the event that the commandos get captured.

"The operation is authorized. Both of you will round up your best operatives and brief them. They're authorized to defend themselves accordingly, against any party involved and now officially don't exist."

"Sorry. I'll have to interrupt in one sec."

Schmidt put down the phone and asked the general. "What is it, General?"

"The VPA has overrun the capital city of San Esperito. According to our satellites, the Vertanans have occupied Ciudad de Capitalismo with an iron fist. They've converted schools into detention centers, and have used the malls for makeshift camps."

"Fucking bastards. First, violation of WA charter, second, an invasion on our territory? No! How's the guerrillas doing?"

"Mr. President, we've been shipped a weapons package from C. of DC and are sending it to them as soon as our military trainers are taught how to use them."

"What's our plan for defense?"

"We're sending in an Army force to land on the south side of the island, secure the unoccupied cities, then on to assist the guerrillas in the jungle."

"Good. Stick to the plan, and make sure the VPA does not overrun the island. Understood?"

"Yes, Mr. President."

Shortly after, the director of the CIA Kevin Chang walked in.

"President Schmidt, our contact in Vertana, Jorge Gonzalez, has confirmed that the Vertanan government has hands on nukes left over from the war with Kamcha. Although we do not want to directly attack Vertana yet, we should send in an Allied strike team to retrieve the nukes and possibly, sell it to our allies for a profit."

"Director Chang, you know perfectly that our country does not sell nuclear weapons!"

"Sir, we could make billions off this shit. Just give me the green light and I'll see to any potential customers."

The Spetsnaz team contained two separate squads; 12 operatives from GRU, and another 12 from the KGB. They were equipped with black market German G36C's, Yugoslav M70's, Russian OC-14-7.62's, Belgian FAL's, Hungarian AMD-65's and assorted antitank weapons and Sniper Rifles. Their uniforms bore no insignias, and they carried no identification whatsoever. Back home, their records were erased along with any trivial evidence of their existence included, not limited to school exam results, credit cards..

They were en route to the coast of Vertana in an old cargo vessel, which was registered to some obscure island nation on the other side of the globe. In the past, it had been to the island, so an attack wasn't likely. On the deck was a pair of recently procured UH-1N "Huey's. Below the deck was an Mi-35 gunship, also procured from a foreign source. Casualties were taken into account, however if everyone were to make it back, the helicopters would be overloaded making the use of the Hind likely to escort the slower, more vulnerable Hueys.

They were ordered to retrieve the briefcase at all costs; even if they had to burn down an entire town, it was necessary to get the target. Inside the case was the ballistic data for the "Stonehenge" cannons, which while it was already constructed in parts [the components were built at various facilities in the SRCP, the test data was done in the ocean.], it needed the data to be fully capable in downing any airborne target above 2500 feet. It was kept a secret, because it's operational range covered most of the continent and obviously wouldn't fly with the neighbors.

Major Patrenko looked at the clock in the mess hall,, and thought to himself:

"Almost time to prepare, better check my gear."

"I thought we'd be doing this in some army base, but we're actually in the field! Wow!" Rob Armory exclaimed, beaming. He was even younger than he looked - barely out of his teens - and was glad to be abroad. Factory work was dull, dangerous, and didn't pay nearly well enough. Besides, the bosses didn't like city kids - too liberal, too unwilling to just keep in line and accept their lot. Better to be out here, earning hazard pay, than to be stuck between a corrupt union and a stuck-up manager.

"Shush," Jo Tanks replied, offhand. She had bigger things on her mind. Who volunteered her? Why was she being sent out here? Who had she pissed off? Dammit. From a nice cushy design job to this. Tromping through a jungle, having to teach 'guerrillas' to drive an overgrown truck and fire the guns - ugh! It didn't help that they stuck her with such an idiot. Old Bright-Eyes there would probably get her killed. Oh well. At least she actually knew what she was going to teach them; sitting through a class wouldn't cut it.

"Listen to me! I designed this rifle, I know it works. Do you want to win, or do you want to stand here and harangue me about how the gun I built doesn't work!" Luisa Armory shouted, in Spanish. She was beginning to regret her decision to come out here and see her gun in action. She knew she was one of the few willing volunteers, one of the few not chosen by a boss who they had pissed off, or a co-worker who wanted to get ahead, or an adulterer trying to bump off the spouse. She had volunteered because it was her gun, her idea, that was being tested. Or would be, if that damn captain would stop claiming that her gun was a 'toy...'

"Scramble a militia platoon to the ship and order it to turn back to its home country, wherever it is."

"Hi! I'm Rob Armory, of Smith Armory, and I'm here to tell you all about the R25 rifle-" A burst of thunder interrupted his speech; after it stopped, he started up again before Chief Guerreros grabbed his rifle.

"Look, just tell me the basics. I've handled rifles before, as a reservist; this doesn't look too unusual. Disassemble and reassemble it - piece by piece, please - then show me the safety," he said. Jo sighed, relieved; Rob slumped down for a moment, then got busy. Guerreros then turned to Jo and said, "What have you here, Miss Tanks?"

"Call me Jo; it's my name. In our convoy are the 18 squad vehicles, armored trucks that carry 5 troops each; we also have the 2 mortar vehicles, the 2 antitank vehicles, and the 2 air defense vehicles," Jo began.

"Miss Ta-" "Call me Miss Jo, if you must. I insist." "Okay, Miss Jo, take Lou and Buddy here and show them around the vehicles; I'll be back after Rob's rifle demonstration."

Jo paused and waited, then grunted and gestured to the two named 'guerrillas.' They had discipline, which was good; they had spirit, which was useful; they lacked respect, which grated. And if they didn't respect her, would they respect their foe?

Chief Guerreros walked over to watch Rob demonstrate his gun, shaking his head. What kind of woman doesn't go by her last name, however odd it may be? What kind of woman shows such disrespect to her family?

Luisa Armory rattled off the specifications by heart. The conscript thrust his hand up in triumph; the militia captain slumped back, thought, then said, "Prove it. Prove this gun's better than mine." He lifted his AK-47.

Luisa groaned. She didn't want to embarrass the captain, nor did she want to make her gun look bad.

The conscript smiled. Surely, he would be picked to shoot for Luisa. Surely, he could at last show up his uncle.

The captain pointed to two recruits. "Comrade...Raúl, you get my AK. Comrade...Miguel, you get her toy. Each of us will teach our comrade how to fire the weapon, then Comrade Private Nguyen here will set up two targets at the far goal of the football field there. Our two comrades will stand in the near goal, then shoot off their clip; whoever gets the most hits wins."

What a farce!, Nguyen thought. His uncle, afraid of some foreigner? Afraid he couldn't shoot as well?

Luisa smiled.

OOC - Feel free to handle the shooting contest - or don't, if you prefer; perhaps a militia colonel will show up and tell the captain to accept the rifles as they are.

The helicopters would take off once night fell, and proceed to the drop zone, where the teams would evacuate in a fashion similar to Air Calvary. In the event that the ship were to be searched with the excuse of the munitions being delivered to a different state failing, they would be forced to shoot their way through.

37 cabin-sized drop pods Screeched across the morning sky, heat shields blazing. As they penetrated the lower clouds a deafening roar could be heard as they nearly simultaniously fired they're pre-impact boosters. The ground shook ferociously as they slammed into the cum-covered ground at 900mph. The soldiers and equipment inside were wrenched a good 15 feet through the impact-absorbing gel which filled the pods entirely.

700 of Svea Eutopias elite Rapid Global Response and Recognaissance unit diserbarked the pods and secured the immidiate area. The Commander's ship circled the airspace above and finally descended onto a freshly cleared landing site.

A field analyst reported back to the Commander. "There's no doubt about it Sir, it's Techno cum." "That means Techno Valhalla were here" the Commander replied, deep in thought. His radio stirred, the a group of perimeter scouts were reporting in. "Report!" the Commander ordered. The Mexilando F-18 Hornet wing was taking heavy fire from the VPA Air Force MiG-17s. One Hornet was hit in its left wing and was forced to return to the carrier. The others switched to their emergency short-range SRAMs.

One F-18 fired an SRAM and with its heat-seeking lock, hit the Fresco head on. The others resorted to their 20mm M61A1 cannons, which were only good if they came into close contact with the enemy fighters.

Back on the ground, the Marines were waiting for a lull in action as the second wave of VPA soldiers tried to break into their lines. Captain Guzman's company had already lost a squad, and was desperately calling in reinforcements with little luck.

Guerreros, in the air-raid bunker, received a transmission from USGA Air Force 2nd Lieutenant Stephanie Halverson. "This is Siren of the USGA Air Force F-22 Raptor Ace squadron. We are coming in to fly a sortie over the jungle."

"This is Puertorican. Glad to hear from you, Siren. We're being scoped by three VPA Fishbeds and I think they're trying to get us."

"Just sit tight, Puertorican. We're coming in for a fire mission. Siren out."

"This is Firefox. I have eyes on bogeys. Arming RHMs."

The RHM was a medium-range, medium-damage air intercept missile designed for the needs of the F-15E Strike Eagle or the MiG-29 Fulcrum against Soviet Sukhoi SU-35 interceptors. Arming it on a 21st-century fighter for use against a 20th century fighter-bomber would be no problem for the Aces.

"I have lock on target. Firing one."

The first RHM flew at Mach 3 speed towards an unsuspecting MiG-21. The MiG pilot noticed the missile lock alarm in his cockpit and deployed flares, only to be incinerated by the radar-homing missiles.

"Sapphire to Siren. Scratch one MiG."

"I read you. Coming in on the second one."

Now, the remaining four MiGs were aware of the enemy air prescence. One pilot hit the afterburners and flew up in an attempt to find the enemy fighters- only to be ripped to shreds by the F-22's 20mm cannon shells.

"Siren to Sapphire. Scratch two."

"Roger that. We'll take them out from above."

The F-22s flew higher and scoped out the remaining targets.

"Sapphire, I've got a lock on one of the three other targets. Firing RHM."

The RHM did not have enough time to be guided by the F-22's systems and as a result, hit a remote spot on the mountain.

"Missile missed its target. I- hold on. I'm getting a transmission of some sort from one of the MiGs."

Captain Morales shouted in his radio, "Western dogs. This island does not belong to you. Surrender or you will face the wrath of Granuja, Yanqui girl pilots."

2nd Lt. Lisa Johansonn shouted into her radio to counter Morales's remark. "Hey, we may be women but that doesn't give a right be sexist you son of a bitch."

Seconds later, Johansonn's RHM found its mark on Morales's fuselage.

Also, you can't have everything go great, so now the VPA has a good idea of where to look. If you're trying to keep a secret, flying in interceptors isn't the best solution.

Second Lt. Khang Mendoza radioed to his remaining wingman, Quang Thuc Diem as the USGA Air Force F-22s left the airspace. "Do you think we're better pilots than the captain who is now on the way to the bottom of the Caribbean Sea?"

"Only one way to find out. Now, let's punish the capitalists with some air strikes. The guerrilla's camp is somewhere under those trees."

"What trees? There are a whole lot of them."

"Check the ridge for any activity. Maybe that will find something."

The Fishbed made a pass over the ridge, only to be met with AA fire which was from, no doubt, the guerrillas. Mendoza armed his 500lb bomb and yelled, "You can hide, but you can't escape, rebels!"

The 500lb slammed into the head of the ridge, leaving a blast crater where a modified Ontos tank used to be, along with its four dead crew members. Quang reported, "Uh, I got some activity down by the coastline. Think we should check it out?"

"Why should today be any different?"

The MiG-21s swooped over a spot on the coastline, finding what looked like the shadow of a patrol boat. Mendoza asked, "We don't have any PT boats down here, do we?"

"No, sir. Nothing but us."

"Cause it looks to me this one is going to be pounded to pieces." Mendoza got closer to what became a harbor for the rebels' boats. "Goodbye, FASE bitches."

"Com'n Hokins," started Flight Captain Edward Barrey. "Leave Matt alone. You can't say much, you can't even shoot straight without hitting someone,"

"Matt's a big baby!" insulted Hokin's as he came closer to Matt.

"Hey! Nobody leaves me in the dust," snapped Hokin's violently as he chased after Matt.

"Rest of you return to the ship and inform the captain of the current situation," ordered the Queens of Diamonds. "I'm going after the pair!"

Matt had already had a good lead from Hokin's. He darted in the sky as Hokin's kept trailing him while keeping a missile lock on Matt's aircraft. There was little com traffic while Matt tried to out-run Hokin's. Matt was too focus with the manovour, the clear sky and keeping an eye out for enemy AA positions. As he was pulling off a sharp turn, he noticed the Queen of Diamonds had finally came onto the scene which gave hima sense of relief. He let his guard down for a moment before the alarm went off. Matt noticed the missile lock system went off and this made things more difficult for him. He darted and raced as he tried to out run the missile before deploying heaters. The heaters were designed to draw the missiles off the jets tail and possible the missiles would destroy themselves by hitting the heaters. However, it was too late and the missile exploded when the heaters were about a metre from the jet engines. The explosion caused the jet to be thrown forward.

"This is the Jack of Spades calling Gibberish American Forces and Lynion Forces. Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! I've being shot down over the jungles somewhere," shouted Matt into the radio before the jet smashed into the ground causing the wings to break off the main body. Matthew was braced for impact but the crash had servely smashed his shoulder apart. He was lucky to be alive as the jets circled above him before returning back to base. Matt reached over for the flares and luanched four red flares to expose his position. He pressed another button that was meant to open the cockpit but the cockpit shield was badly jammed.

"Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!," splattered Matt as he coughed. "I'm shot down...I fired the flares...I've got a shattered shoulder wound and I need medical attention..." Matt suddenly fainted as he kept his finger on the radio thus exposing his position on radar. He was still breathing but he could bearly moved as he prayed with all his heart we would be found.

Recon suggested that both have a large number of troop movement, either rebel or federal troops. Once more thing, if it's in the town, by the time we get to it Mexican forces might be overrunning the place. We can handle the infantry no problem, but the tanks are a different matter, so choose your battles wisely. Alpha Squad[GRU] will take the town, Delta[KGB] will take the rebel camp, afterwords we regroup here. Any questions? Move out, we've only got 72 hours to go."

While they were resting, their radio officer was listening in on nearby radio transmissions. While listening in, the radioman summoned the commander.

"There's a downed aircraft a few clicks north, rescue choppers are inbound."

"Shit.. If we need to engage, how many Starstreaks do we have?" The commander said, looking at a different commando.

The said commando replied: "We've got four of them, Alpha's got the other 4."

"You what?" demanded Tal Rasha as Hokin's started to sweat a little from explaining how he shot down Matt.

"Hey, the little punk was asking for it," stated Hokin's as Tal Rasha and the Queen of Diamonds started to shake their heads.

"Bullsh*t," replied Melissia (Queen of Diamonds). "You pressured him into running away from you and then fired a missile at close range. I saw him crash land and the flares were fired," stated Melissia sharply. "I've listened to comm traffic and Gibberish American units are inbound to the crash sight. By what I've heard, he's arm is going to be removed and replaced with a cyborg one,"

"He was taking the bait, what else was I meant to do?" snapped back Hokins.

"Damnit Hokins!" shouted Tal Rasha as his voice made everyone feel a freeze go down their spines. "Got any idea what position his brother is in?"

"No...no..." replied a nervous Hokins.

"His brother is the Vamperial Grand Aerial Headmaster of the Vamperial Order and he can decide your fate without a trail!" snapped back Tal Rasha. "Got any idea what he's going to be like if Matt dies?" shouted Tal Rasha as he threw Hokin's across the bridge and against the wall. "All hell is going to break loose and you could be executed on the spot!" Tal Rasha hadn't calmed down and he was still enraged. "Melissia, take ten fighters and a drop ship and secure Matt's location. Sarge, clap Hokin's in irons and throw him into his cell!"

"Yes sir," smiled the sarge as he and another two Hunters slapped Hokin's in irons. "Com'n traitor, we got a nice cell for you to think about your life,"

The Queen of Diamonds scrambled 10 Dingo's as they took off and headed towards the crash site. She was pissed off at Hokin's on firing at one of the best pilots in the air force. The only thing going through her mind was: why? Why did the bastard shoot him down? She tried to put it out of her mind as a MK2 Prototype Blackhawk joined them. The mission was simple: rescue Matt, blow the jet and get back to the medical ship.

The HH-60s flew in from the Army Base in San Esperito into the eastern tropical coast of Vertana. It was still sunny at this time of year, and it would be easy to spot the Lynion pilot yet also easy for VPA forces to spot the HH-60s. After an hour of travelling inland, the HH-60s approached the transponder location of the pilot. One pilot hit his radio, "Lynion pilot, can you tell us your location? "Lower the chopper now at the source of that flare, now!"

Polaski, Riebmann, cover Satsaki and Giovanni while they take care of this guy."

Vatz walked over the pilot and looked into his eyes," Don't worry, buddy. We'll get you out of here."

"I don't know, Comrade sergeant. It's probably the American special forces that are trying to weaken our grip."

Ngo turned to his CO, Lieutenant Domingo Contreras. "Comrade Lieutenant. The Americans are probably trying to get their hands on that package we found in Cyrillic."

Ngo proceeded to the secured package while Morales covered his back. Then, he looked back to only see one soldier at his side. "Where's Jimenez?"

That's why we're capitalists but still defend socialism if necessary," Rodriguez explained to the foreign troops.

While the others weren't looking, Jimenez looked at his CIA-assigned mini-computer where he wrote to HQ, "We got a package, but it's not the one we're looking for. The one we found belongs to some Eastern European country due to the Cyrillic markings all over it. We took photos of all markings on the package and relayed them back to HQ for analysis. We have no clue what's inside, but we think it's information about some type of WMD or WMD defense plan called 'Project Stonehenge.' "I know you do, captain, but we need to hold our positions until the rest of the brigade can move in. We've planned an attack on the VPA on the other end of the valley. We'll have air support and the naval artillery in support. Don't worry. We'll be fine."

Central Vertana Mountains
A VPA convoy was headed down the mountain road to scout for any trails off the beaten path. A PT-76 tank headed the convoy trailed by 2 UAZ 469 jeeps and 4 troop-transport trucks. The VPA soldiers were fully armed with AK-47 assault rifles and RPD light machine guns. Their patrol was almost over until the PT-76 stopped all of a sudden, holding up the convoy. The officer got out of his truck and yelled, "What's going on?"

"Just clearing the road of debris, sir."

"Negative! Continue on!"

No response. The officer ordered his men,"Go check it out."

"Yes, sir."

In a split second, the jungle was lit up by enemy gunfire as FASE guerrillas put heavy M16A1 and AK-47 fire into the convoy. Many VPA troops attempted to get to cover, but several were subsequently forced to the ground by the heavy fire.

"Return fire." Several VPA soldiers blindly lifted their AK-47s and shot at their enemies. Thsoe who did try to aim were put down by the deadly accuracy of the overwhelming numbers of the "freedom fighters." A wave of guerrillas, with bayonets attached to their rifles, charged into the VPA positions. Those who got close put the nasty blades into the chests of their enemies, only to be put down by the PT-76's suppressive fire. But that failed, as the guerrillas put enough LAW fire into the tank to keep it from continuing. Warrant Officer McDonald looked to Rob. "You ready for this?"

"For certainly."

The two guerrilla leaders pulled out their M60E4 machine guns, putting 7.62mm lead into the rest of the cowering VPA. At the same time, the VPA officer radioed base. "This is Cuervas! I've been ambushed by the San Espertans in the central highlands and requesting armored backup. Taken lots of casualties, and need backup pronto!"

"Alright, stay frosty. BTRs are inbound."

Some minutes later, four BTR-80s arrived with four squads of elite VPA infantry armed with G3s, FNCs, and PKMs, searching for the attackers. The company leader found the VPA officer unconcious from blood loss and several wounded survivors next to the body of a dozen guerrillas and two dozen VPA troops, then ordered his men, "Get them inside the truck. The rest of you, look for any signs of the guerrillas. Go!"

In the meantime, McDonald and Rob waited in the bushes, camoflauged and ready with a fresh clip of M60E4 bullets. The rest of the fighters were hiding in the trees, AK-47s at hand.

Tal Rasha thanked the doctor and quietly slipped into the room and found Matt with his left arm removed. Matthew was awake and quietly looking around as Tal Rasha sat next to Matt. At first there wasn't much to say and Matthew was struggling to stay awake.

"F**k that bastard," muttered Matthew as Tal Rasha smiled.

"He'll be court martial when the war's over," replied Tal Rasha. "In the mean time, he's returned to Union in a prison camp. How you feeling?"

"Pretty stuffed," joked Matt. "I could use with a sleep," pointed out Matt as he looked like hell and hadn't slept for 24 hours.

"Get some rest," replied Tal Rasha. "I need to go back to the base, something is about to happen. Take your time Matt," finished Tal Rasha as Matt drifted off to sleep. Tal Rasha went outside and spoke to the doctor he was with earlier.

"When Matt can be moved," started Tal Rasha. "Send him to us so we can send him to Union,"
