A peaceful liberation [EII]

Nerotika

"Its not saint Petersburg, but its one step closer to living in peace. We have hundreds of reports of cottish loyalist attempting to flee to the cottish border, nearly most of this population has been brainwashed to believe we've come to rule them with an iron fist." The appointed governer of Tambov, Yuri Smirnov, sighed deeply as he looked over those very reports.

The governer had made it to Tambov among a crowd of obvious cottish supporters, picket signs refutted Nerotikan control and a cartoon image of the chairwomen with devilish horns sitting on a chair of money and skulls adorned many of them. The chairwomen herself had made it very clear she would not visit the territory, with the recent choice to reform the nerotikan government she had devoted her time to discussing things with the federal council and left it to Yuri to come in and introduce Tambov to nerotikan governing; she would never let anyone dawn the thought of her fear of assasination inside the Tambov territory.

"Its a surprise to me, they make us seem like communist dictators and then come to us with offerings of peace. They ask to trade land but devote detailed attention to informing the people that were an evil regime. Do these people not realize what has just happened, they've been sold out to the very people they've been told are the enemy. We've tried hard to seem peacful to the cottish realm and we've made it clear to our people that this land trade was for peace not for profit." Yuri scribbled a few notes on a paper pad, his attention had not left the top of his desk even since the conversation began.

"Sir, the cottish seem to be attempting peace with us here. We cannot overlook what they've done to broker some sort of agreement, least it did not end up like before when they came to the USR and forced land from the soviet's hands. Nerotika....well, she is ready for peace now. I feel that once we've organized Tambov and proven our worth to the anarchist pantheaan territories we may be able to reunite Pantheaa and begin building mother russia into the union it deserves to be."

"Such talk is pretty bold, we cannot simply drive tanks into the seperatist lands...whether or not we have a popular standing among the pantheaan people many of them are corrupted and brainwashed into the cottish way of thinking as those here in Tambov. Bringing Tambov to order will take some time, using military to organize the towns and city here will only strengthen the iron fisted dictatorship image they have of us. However if we immediatly draw upon the Tambov people to protect themselves then they will think we've come to only bypass them and search for greener pastures which might give reason to revolt. This is a delicate situation and I only hope that we will not see it burn in our faces." The governer sighed and looked up, his face showed a real deep sense of caring. After all, Tambov was his home as a child and coming back to it gave him pride.

Tambov city

A thirty vehicle long convoy, on its way through Tambov to deliever its liberation message, came rolling past a large blue cathedral decorated on top with golden crosses and domes. The cathedral had become a gathering place for many nealy hundreds of people in the city block it was located, luckly with everything the cottish did take away; the pantheaan's were still allowed to pray if they hadn't been shipped off yet. A family of four, two daughters a son and their mother, watched with tearful eyes as the nerotikan's drove past. They had heard so much about the communist state of nerotika, the schools spoke hardly anything good of the state and now the state was there to liberate them for the speaking demons. The family, a remaining few of pantheaan's in the city of Tambov, gave out cheers and cries of happiness louder than the cottish supporters who boo'd the convoy's passing. As the center of the convoy came up a loudspeaker, repeating a message of liberation, came into hearing distance.

"Children of pantheaa, former citizens of cotland. You government has surrendered your land to the very communist pigs you were once taught to fear. You have been sold to us for a peace your government most likely does not plan on keeping, for money; a compensation to make your land worth as much as what we gave up. And all this while you look to us as the enemy, we have come to liberate you. We have come to bring freedom and self governing to your people and your land. You are within the union that makes up the Nerotikan state, allow this transition to occur peacfully and you will see prosperity come to your land as a new vital part of the State.

A Social Studies professor at the University of Rome had during a lecture on the modern Europe made a quite fitting comment about the Cottish, stating that the Cottish were a traumatized people, having experienced more than their filling of social unrest, war, invasions and attacks from foreign powers, something which had molded the people into the nationalistic, fiercely patriotic people it currently was, which would fight hard for the preservation of their territorial integrity. The professor’s comments were quite applicable to the situation concerning the Tambov land sale, which was far more complex than the Nerotikans attempted to persuade the population of Tambov that it was. For the average Cot, the dream of the return of all pieces of the Cottish ancestral homeland was a powerful one. Right in the middle of the ancestral homeland was Saint Petersburg, a city and state that had been dominated by the Cottish for a thousand years, but over the past two centuries lost to foreign exploiters that wanted to possess it for themselves. Tambov, on the other hand was a conquest that, while a glorious and valuable one, was next to worthless to the Cots if losing it meant getting back a piece of the sacred ancestral homeland. Conquered five years prior from Pantheaa, and only just starting to show off the fruits of the intensive pro-Cottish “hearts and minds” program that the Cottish authorities had sunk considerable effort and money into. Still, when the opportunity to get Saint Petersburg, a most sacred part of the Realm back in exchange for Tambov, the Cottish authorities hadn’t blinked twice before accepting it. After all, Tambov was only a conquest, not yet integrated as a full part of the Realm of Cotland, and thus not worth as much to the Cots as Saint Petersburg was. The result was that the majority of the Cottish people didn’t really care much for the fate of Tambov as they focused on the joys of returning Saint Petersburg to the Realm.

Still, Tambov still housed over forty thousand ethnic Cots, and a population of over a million that had been subjected to one of the most intense clandestine propaganda operations in modern history, being converted to good Cots though pro-Cottish medias, constant emphasis on all the good things Cotland had done for the province and ditto emphasis on all the evil things Nerotika (having fought two wars with Nerotika over the past five years, what else would you expect?) would do to them if the Nerotikans ever got into power, and the Cottish control of the region’s officials and politicians. The result of this was a quite disgruntled pro-Cottish, mostly ethnic Pantheraan and Slavic population that met the Nerotikans as the Nerotikan troops occupied the region.

The Cottish government had already made assurances that those who wished to remain Cottish citizens would naturally be permitted to remain so, and those Cottish citizens who wished to continue to live in the Realm would also naturally be allowed to do so. As a result, the border control posts that had been hastily established were being swamped as the customs officials did their best to check everyone’s passport and get through the queues as quickly as possible.

Still, a sizable group of pro-Cots chose to remain in Tambov, having been promised that as loyal Cottish citizens, they still enjoyed the protection of the Cottish King and thus the Cottish Army. As a result, they showed no fear when the Nerotikan convoy entered Tambov, and continued their protests unabated, holding Cottish flags, banners denouncing Nerotika and praising Cotland, portraits of the King, and caricatures of the Nerotikan leadership. The protests were peaceful, at least for the time being. The Nerotikans would have a tough time converting the people of Tambov to the Nerotikan cause, and needless to say, the Realm watched the events in Tambov very closely, having in place a well developed network of spies and informants there, ready and eager to report at the first sign of Nerotikan autrocities against the people of Tambov.

[OOC: My 2 cents worth :p]
