Sudden Change of Government (attn all in GWO conflict)

On the giant screens that dominated public areas all over the Empire of the Wolf, the normal patriotic blarings were replaced by large white letters saying "PLEASE STAND BY". Citizens stopped in confusion - was this a test of loyalty. After a few seconds a rather haggard looking Emperor Ianovich appeared, his hair looking dishevelled and dark rims under his eyes.

"Citizens of Atopiana and Skgorria, it is with great shame and humility that I greet you. I have foolishly attempted to dissuade you from your rightful and righteous destiny and lead you astray. Rather than lead you into an age of reason and knowledge, I have clouded your minds with superstition and ignorance. I therefore resign as Emperor and hand over the reigns of power to my Paw, Anne Frank. May she prove better for you than I ever was." Just as suddenly as he appeared, the former Emperor was replaced by a fierce-looking elderly woman, her eyes burning with zeal.

"Citizens of Atopiana and Skgorria, rejoice! On this day the shackles of mysticism have been overthrown. The false hope that the Empire of the Wolf gave you is now replaced by one born of the strength, courage and conviction of our peoples. Whilst under Wolven domain the words 'Atopiana' and 'Skgorria' were discouraged from use and even banned in official documentation, and why? I'll tell you why! Last time Atopiana and Skgorria arose, the world trembled. We humbled great powers and made lesser ones fear for their very existence. The atomic devastation should have been the final call to greatness, but instead the weak decieved us and brought an end to the most glorious period of human history. In my new official capacity, I intend to change all of this, starting right now. The Empire of the Wolf is hereby to be dissolved into the nations of Atopiana and Skgorria. They will be governed by the now-resurrected Atopian Union of Fascists and the Skgorrian National Socialist Party. These two nations will not go their seperate ways, but rather they shall be joined together as old in a Pact. A Pact of Iron.

Go now, spread the word that the Pact is risen once more. Elders, tell stories of our past glories. Youths, listen and honour your elders. Let their tales fill your hearts with lust for blood and glory. All of you now, raise your arms in the salute of our peoples. Der Kampf geht weiter! Seig Heil! "

This was the moment that many had been waiting for for years. Billions upon billions of people echoed the words passed down to them by their forefathers. Old veterans dug out their Party uniforms and badges, whilst youngsters imitated their elders as best they could. The reformed Waffen-SS, which had come into being a year previously as a desperate PR stunt to win the hearts and mind of the devotedly fascist populace, disarmed the Imperial Guard whilst the rest of the Armed Forces did not attempt to save the Emperor. Their budgets had been slashed for years, whilst under the Pact they had all the funding they wanted.

The Pact of Iron was back.

Dzevat Memedelija spewed coffee across his desk as he watched the broadcast. As head of Imperial Intelligence, he really should've seen this one coming. "Someone," he mused, "is not telling me what I need to know. Bastards. Right, now where's that old Party Card I had..."

After much rummaging in his drawers, Memedelija found the small, tattered oblong piece of embossed cardboard. It read:

ATOPIAN UNION OF FASCISTS

Name: MEMEDELIJA, Dzevat

Member Number: 29,038,467

Rank: District Leader

Forwards to Glory, Onwards to Death

"Aha!" he cried as he pulled it forth, "Now I'm a model citizen again. Right, now, to the Palace..."

Outside, the chaos was incredible. In the space of a few moments, the whole political and religious structure of Atopian society had been turned around. For thirty-two years, Fascism had been officially banned. A guerilla war had been - may still actually be being - fought in the wastelands outside the Megalopolis against groups of terrorists known, collectively, as the July Loyalists. Were they now the government? Those without party cards - were they treasonous? What was to happen? The policemen were as confused as the rest of society, and this confusion manifested itself in a near-riotous state. Memedelija pushed his way through the crowds, his card safe in an inside pocket, his hand on his issue pistol.

After much struggling and swearing, he finally reached the gates of the palace. The guards had closed and locked the tall supra-steel gates, and refused entry to all who asked. Dzevat asked, politely, anyway.

"Look, you imbecilic fuckers, either I'm the head of Imperial Intelligence, in which case I need to be inside, or alternatively I'm District Leader of the Palace District, as this membership card quite clearly shows, and still need to be inside. So - let me in!"

The guards sighed, and, covering the seething crowds with their rifles, pulled open a side door. "In you come then sir," gestured one, "it's all a bit bizzare today..."

"Obviously. Congratulations. Thanks for getting me in - now point me to the Primo."
"Er, the Star Chamber I think, sir."
"Well done, that man," cried Memedelija as he strode off.

Inside the Star Chamber, the new leader of the Pact of Iron was barking instructions to her new government - at the moment, it consisted entirely of SS officers. Storm-General Beckenbauer, half-man, half-machine, loomed next to her, adding the weight of his experience to her natural authority. No-one noticed Dzevat in his shabby raincoat at first, until he fired his pistol into the ceiling. Almost instantly, he found himself covered by dozens of pistols, sub-machine guns, rifles, and even one clerk with a staplegun.

"Relax," he cried, "I just wanted your attention, Primo. As head of Imperial Intelligence, I feel somewhat miffed that you omitted to send me the memo of your impending takeover. As AUF District Leader, I can only say this - Hail Victory!"

All eyes turned to Primo Frank.

A small smile quirked her lips. "I always did admire you, Dzevat. Congratulations, you're now in charge of internal security. Give me internal stability by the end of the week and I don't care how you do it."

"At once, Primo. Any groups we should crack down on?"

"Yes - those who aren't party members. Democrats, liberals, conservatives, communists, Wolfen... purge the nation, Dzevat, purge it with fire and blood and give it to me malleable and willing to go to war."

A slow smile spread across Dzevat's face. "Primo - I've always wanted to do that. At once, and for the glory of the Pact!" Saluting in the time-honoured fashion, the new Minister for Security laughed and marched off...

Throughout Atopiana, the remnants of the July Loyalist movement emerged from the wastes. Whilst a decade ago they were seen as pathetic remnants of a terrifying era reduced to a shadow of their former glory, now they were portrayed by the media as the true heroes of the revolution. It was them alone who had carried the torch of fascism during the darkest hours of the people - now they returned triumphant, ready to spread their zeal and passion. Some rode in scavenged vehicles, others walked in from the wastes. All wore dirty, tattered uniforms, and all of them knew that at last they had won. Decades of struggle against the military and political structures of the Empire of the Wolf had culminated in the total and utter collapse of the Empire. Even the Imperial Guard, sworn to defend the Emperor unto death, had stepped aside rather than fight.

By now it had been several weeks after the initial takeover and slowly but surely the nations were returning to normal. As in most revolutions, most people stayed in their jobs - the farmer kept farming, the miner kept mining, the pilot kept flying and the bureaucrat kept the machinery of government turning. Printers hurriedly dug out old templates or made new ones to supply the new regime with official documentation, and a huge campaign had been launched across the Pact to remove any traces of the Empire of the Wolf. Books were burnt, streetnames were corrected and temples to the Wolf were either torn down or converted into regular churches.

Feeling more secure in her position, Primo Frank began to dream of glory and triumph outside of the Pact. Perhaps now was the time for the Pact to re-assert itself internationally? Taking a pen, she wrote a statement that was circulated the next day through the press across the Pact and in any other interested international press.

Open letter from Primo Anne Frank of the Pact of Iron to the World

Whatever the ignorant fear, they seek to destroy or conceal. This is a fact of history - it has happened countless times in the past and will continue to happen a long time after we are all gone. As we speak, a global witchunt proceeds against the sacred doctrine of fascism itself. Why? I'll tell you why - because those decadent bolsheviks fear us. The obvious and inescapable truth and destiny that we stand for and represent shines forth as bright as the sun, so they would seek to conceal it with the darkness and silence of the grave.

Some in this nation would say it is of no consequence to us, for we are not under attack, but to them I say this: nations are being attacked for the sole reason that they cling to the doctrine of fascism. The language of the coalition talks of 'exterminating the fascist menace' and wiping this 'evil' off the face of our planet. How long will it be before the great menace comes knocking at our doors, seeking to smash our families, rape our women and enslave our children? Not long I say, not long.

Rather than wait for the hook-nosed fiends to come for us in the middle of the night, I say we make our stand now! Brothers and sisters, let us form ranks with our international fascist comrades and stand in solidarity. If we are destined with destruction, then at least we meet it head on.

As Primo of the Pact of Iron, I hereby extend the hand of friendship to any fascist nation under threat. United we stand, and as a fist we shall deal our enemies such a blow that they will never forget!

So you have a puppet that is allies with your other puppet.

I'm actually offended. I've years of posting on this and thousands of posts, and consider myself an Internet 'vet' - and yet an accusation of being a puppet offends me.

Of course I'm not a bloody puppet, you imbecile! Our post styles are totally different and we're often active at the same time and (when we're not at each other's house), from different IP addresses. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

To: Primo Anne Frank of the Pact of Iron
From: Office of the President
Subj: Pact of Iron Reforms

As our primary goal is the defense of our members and the continued security of the world's oceans (and by extension, trade), we cannot in good conscience ignore the threat posed by the reformation of the Pact of Iron.

While we believe in a nation's right to choose their own path, we cannot under any circumstances condone the actions and intentions of the Pact of Iron, and will be keeping a closer eye on the Pact in the coming months.

Cordially,
