History

The Beginning
The colony of Rymeria resulted from a batch of cryogenic ships that departed Earth in 1965. The ships traveled at sublight speeds searching for an uninhabited world rich in resources where the people in the sleeper ships could build a new life. They arrived at their destination in 1968 after encountering a wormhole. When the ships landed, the people awoke to their new planet and began dispersing to various regions to begin their lives.

After approximately 50 years, the people realised they wanted to explore more than just what their world had to offer, so the National Assembly formed a committee to study the feasibility of space travel. That led to the inaugural FTL flight of the RSV Republic and first contacts with no fewer than four spacefaring peoples.

The Republic has a crew complement of 80. On its first space mission, the ship was armed with two forward laser cannons and one aft laser cannon. It also carried short-range nuclear tipped missiles and long range tungsten rods for kinetic energy attacks. After it returns, it will be armed with eight additional laser cannons port and starboard, along with 10 six-inch rail guns for point defense.

Physically, the ship is sort of a saucer shape with two nacelles, one port, one starboard. The ship has eight decks. The bridge is on Deck 1, along with the situation room. Deck 2 holds officer quarters. Deck 3 has sickbay, crew quarters and the galley. Deck 4 has the hangar for two shuttlepods and a decontamination center. Deck 5 contains science labs and the armory. Deck 6 has the escape pods. Decks 7 and 8 are for main engineering.

The ship was capable of speeds up to 20 times the speed of light on its second space mission after a refit. It could travel at 1.5 times the speed of light on its first.
