Prime minister "will fire" Radu-Ados if he does not resign first but opposition says government must fall

Pacitalia's senior deputy prime minister may not hold that office for much longer after revelations that he and 19 other men operated a network that traded images and videos of child pornography.

All twenty men were busted over the weekend as part of a Pacitalian Central Intelligence Commission (PCIC) and Republican Police Service (RPS) joint sting operation. PCIC agents first infiltrated an internet chat room, frequently used by the group to trade the illicit media, in August. They identified the user nextinline620 as Ştefan Radu-Ados, Pacitalia's senior deputy prime minister. It is not yet known if any of the other members of the group are notable figures within the country.

Mr Radu-Ados was arrested at his home in Valverde di Montefiora, on the western Capitale coast, 10km from the Amalfian apertural border. He spent the night in jail at Timiocato's Capitolina police station and, with his lawyer present, posted bond of Đ 250,000 at 9.00am this morning. Radu-Ados will appear in court on 20th February to face charges of both trafficking and engaging child pornography.

His boss, prime minister Archetenia Nera, was quick to respond in an attempt to assure the public and politicians in Timiocato that her Progressive Democratic (FPD) government was safe from any further involvement in the scandal.

"What has happened here is sickening and appalling to the extreme," Ms Nera said. "I obviously cannot defend Mr Radu-Ados in any way and I want to make it clear right now I will fire him, absolutely and without any hesitation, if he does not first resign, and immediately.

"Mr Radu-Ados has a record of proud service to this country, but his actions are indefensible and disgusting, and now overrule whatever he has done for Pacitalia," she said.

But it did little to placate the opposition. The main opposition Pacitalian Social Coalition (PSC) said it might attempt to form a minority coalition government with the Socialists and Greens, and ask archonate Dr Timothy Ell for a writ of confidence and supply to do so. But Socialist Party leader Jávier Grandinetti and outgoing Green leader Neros Constantakis both agreed Dr Ell would be best served dissolving the lower house and calling a special election for 12th January, in line with the national referendum on abolishing or retaining the death penalty.

Details are still forthcoming and PNN will update as we know more.

PAEDOPHILIA SCANDAL IN PACITALIA
BREAKING NEWS

Following news coming out of Pacitalia that the Senior Deputy Prime Minister has been arrested following a sting on a child pornography ring, the Bostopian Government has reacted quickly and revoked any diplomatic freedoms the Pacitalian SDPM had held in Bostopia.

The Foreign Ministry has told us that these will be of course restored as soon as any allegations are proven false, but that they "could not easily stand by the concept of innocent until proven guilty where allegations this strong have been placed upon a person."

More news as we get it.

Senior Vice President and External Affairs Officer Grant Haffner was enjoying his reduced workload. Now that Tyler was officially in the Gray House and Nicole Lewis returned to live in The Manor, Haffner and his wife Gloria returned to their home. Gone were the marathon days in The Complex. Gone were the nights Haffner slept on the couch.

But now, Haffner awoke to a report that Pacitalian senior deputy prime minister Ştefan Radu-Ados and 19 others were arrested in a child pornography sting. Haffner knew the situation was delicate, and doubly so because Paci-Sarzonian relations weren't close enough yet to merit Haffner going off about Radu-Ados, even though he felt private disappointment over what happened.

Still, he knew he'd have to face the usual round of press at the External Affairs press briefing room. When he walked in, the media didn't even wait for him to make an opening statement.

"Mr. Senior Vice President, what's your reaction to the announcement of Ştefan Radu-Ados's arrest?"

Haffner's eyebrows raised and dropped back for a second. He knew he could get himself -- and his country -- in hot water if he said what he really thought.

"We believe the Pacitalian system of justice should be allowed to run its full course," Haffner said. "We are not at liberty to comment on pending litigation, especially when it involves another nation's criminal justice system.

"That's all I'm going to say about that particular issue."

"Mr. Senior Vice President, will this affect your plans to visit Timiocato?"

"I don't foresee any reason this would have an adverse effect on my or Lieutenant President Lewis's travel plans," Haffner said. "Again, I would prefer not to comment on this situation while litigation is possible. Thank you."

Pacitalian deputy prime minister caught in pornography sting

Senior Deputy Prime Minister Ştefan Radu-Ados and 19 others have been arrested on charges relating to child pornography in Pacitalia overnight.

The news has sent shockwaves throughout Pacitalia and the region. Mr Radu-Ados is accused of both trafficking and engaging in child pornography. He was arrested at his private residence on the western Capitale coast and held at a Timiocato police station until 9:00 am after a bond of Đ 250,000 (P 1,305,128) was posted. He is to appear in court on 20 February.

Pacitalian leader Archetenia Nera has moved swiftly to distance the government from Mr Radu-Ados. She called for her senior deputy prime minister to resign or be fired. His actions, the prime minister stressed, were "indefensible".

Despite this, opposition parties, led by the Pacitalian Social Coalition are urging the formation of a new government or fresh elections.

In Novus Prosperitas, Prime Minister Simon Dwyer was reluctant to comment on events in the country's regional neighbour. Mr Dwyer did, however, praise the work of Pacitalian law enforcement agencies for their "hard-wrought" efforts in fighting the "scourge of child abuse and exploitation".

"What I can assure you is that the Prosperitan government takes these matters every bit as seriously as our cousins to the south," he said.

TIMIOCATO, PACITALIA – Pacitalian Senior Deputy Prime Minister Ştefan Radu-Ados and nineteen other Pacitalian nationals have been arrested and charged with possession of child pornography during a Pacitalian Central Intelligence Commission sting operation.

Pacitalian Prime Minister Archetena Nera quickly fired Mr. Ştefan Radu-Ados after being implicated in a serious federal offence. Prime Minister Nera told our Pacitalian affiliate PNN, “What has happened here is sickening and appalling to the extreme.

“I obviously cannot defend Mr Radu-Ados in any way and I want to make it clear right now I will fire him, absolutely and without any hesitation, if he does not first resign, and immediately. Mr Radu-Ados has a record of proud service to this country, but his actions are indefensible and disgusting, and now overrule whatever he has done for Pacitalia.”

Mr. Radu-Ados was released by the courts for bail set at Pacitalian Douro Đ 250,000 equivalent to $3,360,000 in Pacifican dollars.

Pacitalia's senior deputy prime minister has heeded the call of his superior, prime minister
Archetenia Nera, resigning from his post Tuesday morning. The move is unlikely to maintain
confidence in the government. PSC leader Fernando Chiovitti is still pressing Pacitalian archonate
Dr Timothy Ell to allow him to form an alternate government in coalition with the Greens and
Socialists. The Green Party, meanwhile, will pick its new leader in an online vote Friday.

Radu-Ados steps aside, maintains he is innocent
Declares he is resigning in order to protect the government, his reputation

Manti Soratina Murana in Timiocato

Pacitalia's thirty-third senior deputy prime minister has resigned following allegations he participated actively within a child porn media ring. However, Ştefan Radu-Ados is defiant and denies any involvement, saying he is totally innocent and is resigning only to fight the baseless accusations that threaten to ruin his reputation forever.

Mr Radu-Ados briefly addressed the press at the New Prado in Timiocato on Tuesday morning, just one day after posting bail and leaving a Timiocato police station hounded by cameras and reporters and heckled by anti-child abuse activists.

"I have said nothing until today because I am maintaining my innocence," the 54-year-old parliamentarian asserted. "I strongly believe I am the victim of a vicious attempt to frame me."

"I do not want to associate this government with the actions attributed to me," Mr Radu-Ados stressed, "nor do I wish to impede the day-to-day functions of the parliament. I believe the best way to maintain confidence in the prime minister's government is for me to step aside. Therefore, I am resigning with my dignity intact so that I may fight these smears and protect my reputation."

The now-former senior deputy prime minister then angrily stared into a PBC News camera and closed emphatically before exiting the room without taking questions.

"These allegations are baseless," he said. "I am not a pedophile."

The prime minister is not expected to name a replacement for Mr Radu-Ados. PSC leader Fernando Chiovitti says his caucus of 259 parliamentarians will not attend any legislative sessions until Pacitalia's archonate, Dr Timothy Ell, heeds his request to form "a viable alternate centre-left government" in coalition with the Green and Socialist parties.

Greens leader Neros Constantakis, who is lukewarm to the idea of a coalition, said his party would consider all options but will also be absent for "at least the next two weeks" until the government "sorts itself out".

With the two largest opposition parties skipping out on parliament that means the FPD government may fall. The government, despite having a majority in the lower house, still must meet the concordance convention, working with the two largest opposition caucuses, to pass legislation. Since that will now not happen for at least the next couple of weeks, Ell may simply declare the parliament dysfunctional, dissolve it and call a special election for only the Constazione.

Official excerpts from Prime Minister Patrick Danahue's news briefing, April 3, 2148

Renée Frisça (National Enquirer): Mr Danahue, your thoughts on the developing story out of Pacitalia, bearing in mind your comments recently on the death penalty there?

Rt. Hon. PM Patrick Danahue: Without wanting to interfere with Pacitalian affairs any more than I have already done in recent weeks, I think it's really sorry this whole nonsense has happened. Bearing in mind Mr Radu-Ados is still innocent until proven guilty I think it would be inappropriate for me to comment further, but I am glad he has taken the decision to step down.

Frisça: Will you be taking any action with regards to the group that were given Pacitalian visas to visit Timiocato, and the Pacitalian Agustinate of Public Health and Wellness?

Prime Minister: I see no reason to.

Matthew Davies (Radio Ad’ihan International): Mr Danahue, have your coalition partners spoken to you on this matter? I am aware that after the previous incident regarding the-- (cut off by the Prime Minister)

Prime Minister: I am aware of what happened last time. I do not need you to remind me. No, I have not spoken with either the Foreign Minister (Jeremy Firston, leader of coalition partner National Centrist Board) or (Social Democratic leader) Alvin Cann. I do not expect them to try anything silly this close to an election.

Jose Almerio (Global Free Press): Are we to expect an official reaction from the Liventian government in response to this scandal?

Prime Minister: As Mr Radu-Ados has now stepped down, I personally do not feel there is any such need. I doubt my Cabinet will, either. The only official reaction is that Mr Radu-Ados is not welcome in Liventia until his name is cleared, although he never was likely to visit anyway.

Almerio: But sir, you were mentioning his innocence until proven guilty?

Prime Minister: That's all I'm taking on this topic today. Next question please.

President Jay Tyler walked out onto the portico overlooking the South Lawn of the Gray House. The day was unseasonably warm by Woodstock standards. A daytime high of 11 degrees Celcius greeted Tyler as he looked out on the lawn.

He'd insisted on maintaining the South Lawn during his former paramour Mike Sarzo's presidency. Sarzo didn't much care for plants or nature. That was Tyler's role. Now that Tyler was president, he announced the Head Gardener's office would transfer from the supervision of the Executive Office of the First Partner to the administration under the Executive Office of the President.

Meanwhile, first gentleman Brian Patrick was preparing for a tour of Woodstock public schools. He'd taken on a pet project of preserving music education in Sarzonia's public schools. It was an endeavour Tyler fully supported since both men enjoyed the refuge provided by their respective keyboards and pianos. Patrick also looked over other possible pet projects he could take on that were as apolitical as possible.

Meanwhile, Tyler heard the television on in a living room near the portico. He turned around and went to turn it off until he heard the report from SNN.

"Pacitalian senior deputy prime minister Ştefan Radu-Ados announced his resignation today in Timiocato, but insists he is innocent of charges that he was involved in a child pornography ring."

Tyler mashed the off button on the television with a mix of frustration and anger. How could he? he thought. He paused for a second. The facts hadn't emerged yet. Sarzonian legal precedent ... and Pacitalian, he knew, was that those accused of crimes were innocent until proven guilty.

He walked down to the Gray House Press Office where he was set to give the standard press briefing.

[Five minutes in]

"Mr. President, what is your reaction to Pacitalian Senior Deputy Prime Minister Ştefan Radu-Ados's resignation in light of charges of his involvement in a child pornography ring?"

Tyler stiffened slightly, then looked at the questioner evenly.

"Our stance on this has not changed since senior vice president and external affairs officer Grant Haffner informed you of our position," Tyler said. "Signore Radu-Ados is innocent until or unless he is proven guilty in a court of law. As such, the Incorporated Sarzonian Government shall have no further comment on the charges. He is not on trial in a Sarzonian court of law, nor would he be unless he violates Sarzonian laws in Sarzonian sovereign territory.

"Next question."
