Present Day:

The elections of November 2008 had been eventful. 2 candidates killed and 1 serious in a hospital threatened the elections. When the Thivean people had finished voting on on December 18th, the winner had been the current Thivean President, Larry Bresnick. However the next day, a coup was launched in the capital, Thive City by the Thivean Revolutionist Party (TRP). By that evening its leader Nikolai Treian, an radical stalinist, had taken control.
The next day, he abolished the laws that granted the Thivean people their freedom. All democratic laws were abandoned. Even socialism was made illegal and only Stalinism was to be obeyed. Curfews were in force and all nightlife in Thive City was closed down. Rationing came into force along with shortages in certain goods became reality.

The new “President for life” even went even further. On December 19th during a speech in Thive City, he condemned the nations that shunned Stalinism. He went on to say that any nation that weren’t Stalinist were “enemies of Thive and must be destroyed”. He even condemned the nations that had moderate communist regimes. But he saved the worst words for Madurastan and Alfegos. He called them “has been nations” and “nations that will be in due course erased from history”. He also mocked Madurastan about its civil war and the destruction wrought by the communist rebels fighting the Madurastan Army. He even insulted Alfegos by calling it “the garbage dump of capitalism”. He condemned the Alfegosian government for allowing capitalist nations to use their technology and demanded that the current talks in Madurastan to stop or else.”

The declaration of war by the dicator of Thive was in Madurastan's eyes a fatal error. The Thivean Army had mainly outdated armor and equipment such as T-72s and BMP-2 APCs. Their standard rifle was still the AK-47, which in comparison to the Madurastan Army's AN-94s was ancient. The soldiers had been trained by the nations who had re-granted them independence, but their training after them leaving was basic with some not even knowing where the safety catch was on their rifles.

The Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Arcture declares that it considers Larry Bresnick as the lawfully elected head of state of Thivea, and we therefore will not recognise Nikolai Treian as head of state or the Thivean Revolutionist Party as being the lawful government of Thivea. Furthermore, we do not recognise the authority of Nikolai Treian in the matter of declaring a state of war between Thivea and the Republic of Madurastan and the People's Republic of Alfegos, and that therefore no such state of war exists between these states.

In consideration of these facts, we therefore make the following demands:

1) The surrender of Nikolai Treian, all coup leaders, and all members of the Thivean Revolutionist Party to the lawful authorities of the Thivean government;

2) The recognition of the results of the general election of the 18th December, to wit, the restoration of Larry Bresnick in the office of President, and of all other officials elected by popular mandate in said elections;

3) The immediate restoration of the constitution of Thivea and all the rights thereunto granted to its people under said constitution.

The coup leadership has a 24 hours to respond to these demands. Any refusal or failure to accede will be responded by actions as we deem neccessary to restore the legitimate and elected government of Thivea and the restoration of its consitution.

Furthermore, any military attack launched from Thivea against the interests of the Republic of Madurastan and the People's Republic of Alfegos will result in proportionate military action by the Unitary Technocracy of Etoile Acture to defend the citizens of Madurastan, Alfegos and Thivea.

Colonel Alexander Diehm sighed heavily as he walked into the underground bunker that functioned as the base's command centre. He had known, intellectually, that this day might once come. But it had never occured to him that it would come during his time as base commander. Thive had remained relatively stable during the years of chaos in Colstream, and was mostly viewed as a sunset posting for higher officers who would never reach general's rank, a place where they could enjoy a few years of rest before they retired.

But now, their situation had turned bad. Very bad. They were more or less isolated in a hostile country, four hundred soldiers and a thousand civilians trapped in a four hectare area, cut off from the rest of the Empire. The situation was a nightmare, but he had done all he could to prevent it from becoming even worse. Machine gun positions, trenches and minefields had been constructed behind the electric fence that separated the base from Thive itself, and what they had in the way of air defence weapons had been positioned around the main building complex, in case the new government tried a sneak attack. A hundred soldiers patrolled the outer defence cordon at all times, twenty-five percent of their total force. But behind his determined and resolved facade, the colonel knew that if the Thive government decided to crush them, all their defences would be in vain. All they could do was to try and take as many of the enemy as possible with them in death.

Surveillance cameras on the fence gave the officers in the command bunker an excellent view of the defences. Five soldiers, changed at regular intervals, were watching the one hundred and forty cameras, ready to report in any sudden attacks. According to the defence plan, a security force of two hundred and fifty men would respond to an attack within four minutes, although that wouldn't be enough to stop a determined attack. They had started a program to give the civilians on the base rudimentary military training, but it would take at least two weeks before they could start assisting in the defence.

A sudden shout from one of the four communication specialists sitting in a cubicle in the right corner of the room awoke him from his thoughts.

"Colonel! You really need to see this."

He walked over, wondering what fate had in store for him now. Probably more bad news. His suspicions were proven true when he took the print the man handed him. Thive had declared war on Colstream and Alfegos. Somehow he wasn't surprised, he had been cursed with bad luck lately. With forced calm he turned to his officers.

"Gentlemen, unfortunately I must inform you that there has been a new development in the situation. As of this morning, Zaheran is de facto at war with Thive. Our chances of survival are slim, but we will defend this base and fall as heroes, for such is our duty to the Emperor. I want you to ensure that all our defences are ready. If we must fall, we shall at least take some company with us to the other side."

The incident room was alive already, reports flooding in from the various branches of the Ministry as they began assessing the true threat of this nation that had decided to declare war on them. The War Minister himself could hardly believe it as he read and re-read the message they had received from the nation of Thive. If anyone could call that place with a government as immature as it appeared a nation. A small nation with big ideas it knew would be impossible to complete. Or even attempt to try it.

"From our analysis, the range of their aircraft is insufficient to reach our homeland. And they wouldn't even dare: any attempt to infringe on our sovereignty would end up with the entirety of Nova coming down them. No, their first target will be Ge'fegos or Hervia. Call a meeting in the Co-ordination centre, and get all Colonial Military Heads ready to stream live to us: we'll need to see what resources we have available."

60 miles north of Ol'vi

The facility the military used for the most important meetings was always one far away from any civilisation, to avoid the repercussions of any missile strikes targeted at them. This time, they had chosen one of the Airship Stations, holding the large part of the 2nd Air Fleet. The occasional klaxon sounded as crews were called to their vessels, the airships being fuelled and prepared for a fast flight to Ge'fegos. Two days straight flying for the larger airships, less for the fast escorts. By that time though, the fighting would likely already have begun.

Deep below in the side of the mountains there, a hardened nuclear bunker sat amidst fifty metres of concrete, rock and steel, holding the command for the 2nd Air Fleet. At this moment in time though, it was being used for the purpose of co-ordinating the response to this declaration of hostilities. A projector beamed a map of Thive and the surrounding area, markers showing up the resources moving in, alongside the known enemy resources, constantly updating as new satellite feed came in and was processed by the Joint Intelligence Department.

"As it stands, we are luckily able to draw upon a large force very rapidly should they decide to make their move first. We have a regiment stationed in Tho'lara, along with an Interceptor squadron. A battalion along with the missile defence station in Ge'fegos means that we are not at threat from missile attacks. Added to that, we have IRBMs with conventional warheads not subject to Damirean sanctions positioned in Tho'lara, along with the defensive weapons on the coast.

Tho'lara is likely to be an obvious target: the former Hervia. If they managed to recapture it, they would see it as a major victory for them, and as such we will need to send in re-enforcements to ensure the island's safety. The nearest colony to it, excluding Ge'fegos, is New Alfegos. We have given them the order to scramble two Air Taskforces to prepare for a pre-emptive strike, with a naval carrier fleet, naval experimental group and a mechanised division moving in by sea.

Thus, here is our plan: we will move the three taskforces of the 2nd Air Fleet over to Ge'fegos, a springboard to our following attack. It will take them 48 hours to reach them at full speed, so they are moving out as we speak. The naval units from New Alfegos will reach Tho'lara in 36 hours, whilst the airship taskforces will take 18 hours. During that time, we will act defensively: we will wait for them to make a first move before retaliation.
When all units are in position, we will launch what has been discussed as Operation Impound: three Air Taskforces along with carrier-based aircraft will launch sustained air-strikes upon Thive, targeting all strategically important areas. IRBMs will be used to take out any targets far inland or any naval assets they have. The experimental group, containing two RG ships, will be positioned to conduct a heavy naval bombardment of the southern shoreline, where landings will take place. Hopefully, Madurastan forces will form the bulk of the landings, with elements of the Borealis Regiment attacking via hovercraft and moving up-river to provide depth of attack. The Aeromarines will be present, with hopefully a Squadron being ready to launch attacks off airship platforms to capture any important towns.The aim is to blitzkreig inland, the bulk of the mechanised infantry landing on the beaches once captured to take the roads to rapidly take the capital.

A realistic aim is for the attack to commence in 72 hours time, with the bombardments starting and continuing for a further 72 hours. This will give time for all preparations to be made for the landings. The landings will take place at exactly 144 hours from the end of the meeting, with a secure beachhead being expected after 2 hours from that for the troop drop-offs. This will hopefully be complete within a further 3 hours, before the main push will begin inland. The objective is for the capital to be in our hands after 24 hours from the final landings. With that, we should be able to negotiate a successful surrender.

Without any objections to this final revised plan, we will begin movements out into the enemy."

The base was a hive of activity as engines roared into life aboard the ships moored in the base, tug boats and launches darting about between the behemoths of capital ships as patrol helicopters roared over rooftops, keeping sight for any signs of hostilities around the harbour mouth.

The real activity though was around the large covered ship storage facility, the highest security area of the station. It was here that the experimental ships, stealth ships and submarines were kept away from prying eyes, a dome of concrete and batteries of missiles providing further deterrence to any attacks. Inside, two of the ships were being loaded up with supplies and their specialist crews, ready to be used once again.

During the Alestra conflict, two RG ships had been sent out to provide long-range combat and bombardment. Neither had returned back home, a costly reminder of the folly of such ships.
The other two ships of the same experimental class had since then been modified to cope with the inabilities that had led both to being sunk, pieces recovered by divers recycled back into the designs.

Soon, the two ship began to cruise from the harbour, appearing for the first time in sight to most of the personnel in the yard: a new type of battleship. What made the two ships, the AS Sol'os and AS Lun'os, unique to any others that had held their name were the main armaments: each held three 100mm Railguns, powered off the internal nuclear reactors of the ship. Each was able to fire a two kilogram tungsten bolt up to 200km, with enough power to crack a ship in half. Alternatively, if fired at land targets, each gun was able to demolish targets without warning far inland.

These joined the carrier taskforce as they cruised off, the light of a rising sun behind them as they moved onwards to the battle that was about to unfold.

The nuclear submarine cruised deep below the waterline as the captain received his orders on the ULF radio, watching each letter appear in slow succession. It appeared they had a new mission, apart from acting as a part of the MAD system that Alfegos was bringing into force around their target.
"Raise the boat to buoy depth, and deploy the radio buoy. Prepare a channel to communicate on Fegosian Union encrypted frequencies to the Zaheran units within the base."
The boat slowly rose upwards, before reaching the depth required.
"Boat at buoy depth."
"Confirmed. Prepare to send transmission."
There was a distant whine as the cable buoy was deployed, followed by a beep as it alerted all it had reached the surface.
"Beginning transmission. This is submarine AS Anaconda, hailing all within Fort Stahl. Due to the situation you are placed in, in terms of the new regime's declaration of war on Alfegos. We have been alerted to the danger your station is in, and thus have been messaged to move in to provide emergency evacuation.
We are able to provide room for up to fourty people, to evacuate to Tho'lara. As such, we recommend that you send all high-level personnel to the Fort's deep water dock, for immediate extraction.
Be assured that we will be able to launch strikes to defend the fort within 72 hours. All remaining personnel, if unable to evacuate, will need to fight it out until then. AS Anaconda, over and out."

Thank you for your support in this situation. Reports coming in say that the Madurastan colony of Hervia which is on Thive's eastern border is under attack. 2 Divisions of the Thivean Peoples Army attacked on 2 seperate fronts. They are 1 mile inside Hervia but the Madurastan 6th Army comprising 170,000 Soldiers which is deployed in Hervia has stalled the attack. Combat aircraft based in Hervia have began round the clock attacks on their supply lines to stop their resupply trucks getting through.
Orders are now being placed for a counterattack with soldiers now arriving on 3 troop transports direct from Madurastan. As the counterattack starts, a parachute drop of 500 soldiers of the 1st Parachute Division will land on Fort Stahl and secure the perimeter. Chinook Helicopters will then land more soldiers to reinforce the base and wait for relief. There is little risk as Madurastan airstrikes will neutralise the Thivean Peoples Army garrison 6 miles from the Fort.

3 Miles east of the border:

A column of M8 Lariat 1A1L MBTs and M344 Wolverine APCs stretching for miles passed through the town heading west. 110mm Light Guns had been placed in the town square and were firing barrage fire to slow the Thivean Peoples Army down. F-25C Revolution Fighters streaked over at high speed, carrying their deadly cargo. Madurastan Infantry began boarding their APCs in readiness for the counterattack, now only 5 hours to go....


10 Miles west of Thive's southern coast, the Madurastan Aircraft Carriers MAC Freedom, MAC Liberty and MAC General Jack Storm moved along with the Madurastan Cruisers MC Fearless, MC Braveheart and MC Dauntless. F-25C Revolution Fighters and the Sea Wasp Fighters armed with their payloads began to come and go from the carriers to their targets. The Troop Transports were still 4 hours behind carrying the landing force. The landing would be carried out close to Fort Stahl so to relieve the garrison quickly and relieve the paras who would be executing their drop in 5 hours time.

First they could only hear a hiss of static, but then the decrypted message came through the loudspeakers.

We have been alerted to the danger your station is in, and thus have been messaged to move in to provide emergency evacuation.
We are able to provide room for up to fourty people, to evacuate to Tho'lara. As such, we recommend that you send all high-level personnel to the Fort's deep water dock, for immediate extraction.

Colonel Diehm's initial feeling was relief. He was going to survive, to get out of here. But then he saw the young men and women in the room look up at him with anxious faces, waiting for his orders and guidance. And he knew that he could not desert them, not now. They needed a leader if they were to survive until help arrived. He turned to his second-in-command, a young major named Carl Treichert and as good an officer as they came.

"Major Treichert, you will take command of the evacuation party. Take all officers of captains rank and higher with you, barring me, Dr. Fralheim and captain Khanna. After that, you will take as many civilians as possible, priority given to families with children. After you have chosen your group, take them to the deep water dock and await evacuation."

The man saluted and walked off to carry out his orders. Colonel Diehm sat down in an empty chair and studied the pictures from the surveillance cameras. The soldiers were working intensively to complete the defences in time, but so far no enemy movements had been detected. The calm before the storm.

He heard a polite cough behind his back and swiveled the chair around. A communications officer handed him a printed message.

"This just arrived from the Madurastanis, colonel. Seems like we can expect some reinforcements."

Diehm nodded and skimmed through the message. So Madurastani paratroopers would attempt a landing at the base? Very well, they needed all help they could get.

"Clear and mark out a field where they can land. Warn the AA crews that they should not engage the aircraft.

The man saluted and walked back to his work station. Colonel Diehm looked after him with a distant smile. Fort Stahl would hold.

01:00 Local

Above Fort Stahl 5 C130J Hercules carrying a their full load of 123 paratroops of the 1st Parachute Division each making a total of 615 paratroops approached. Below them, the landing site had been marked out and the nearby Thive garrison under attack by Madurastan bombing raids.

The rear doors on each Hercules opened. Each soldier was carrying either an AKSU-74, Minimis or L96A1 Sniper Rifles. Some even had LAW 90s with them to deal with Thivean armor and 51mm Mortars to provide defence against their Gaz Jeeps . "Green on, GO!" shousted the load masters. A steady stream of parachutes filled the early morning sky. After they landed, they moved towards the base. At the same time, CH-47 Chinook Helicopters began landing the 101st Assualt Division and their Humvees.


Meanwhile close to the eastern Thivean border, the counterattack had begun. 150,000 Soldiers of the Madurastan "Hervia Force" which was based in Hervia, had attacked Thivean positions in the north, while in the centre, 170,000 soldiers of the Madurastan 6th Army, now reverting to its original designation, the 6th Division, had attacked the main force will 80% of its armor and had forced the Thiveans to move back into their homeland. Their
first was to relieve the 1st Parachute Division and 101st Assualt Division along with the Zaheran garrison and then advance towards and capture the Thivean Capital, Thive City.

In the west of Thive itself, would be a landing of 2 Madurastan Divisions, the 4th and 7th, along with the Zaheran and Etoile Arcture force. This would force the Thiveans to fight on 2 fronts and wear down their forces quicker than if the forces concentrated on 1 front. Their objective would be to destroy the Thivean forces in the west of Thive and prevent the Thivean Peoples Army from reinforcing its divisions protecting Thive City.

Three amphibious warfare groups, a destroyer group, submarine squadron and two carrier battle groups are gathering off the coast of Madurastan in preparation for landings in western Thive by multination forces, namely the 4th and 7th Madurastan Divisions, a Zaheran division and a Etoilian combat division. I anticipate a start time of 48 hours from transmission of this communication.

Units earmarked for this operation include: the 209th Heavy Brigade, 147th Medium Brigade, 1109th Fires Brigade, 303rd Manouevre Enhancement Brigade, 479th Special Operation Group and 8077th Combat Aviation Brigade. The 1st Air Expeditionary Force already in Madurastan will be augmented to two wings of 80 AQ-39B Clarion unmanned combat aircraft, a wing respectively of 60 F/A-39A Sentinels and F-26A Tempests each, a squadrom of 12 B-90A Condor theatre bombers, and a air refueling/transport wing of 100 KC-45As. Most of these assets will be deployed to southern Madurastan to provide air cover to the invasion forces and for deep strike against strategic targets.

Our plan is for the 479 SOG to insert by quad tiltrotor 8 hours ahead of the invasion force and secure inland targets. We would be grateful for any assistance from special forces of the Madurastan, Alfegan and Zaheran armed forces. Air strikes will commence shortly against leadership targets, integrated air defences, command and control, supply depots and enemy assembly areas. The operation will commence in 48 hours as suggested. This will give enough time for each respective fleet to meet up and prepare for the landings. Madurastan Air Force B52Hs will pound the area behind the lanidng zone with high explosive to eliminate any Thivena Peoples Army positions. Eastern Thive

The advance had been continued into Thivean territory. Every village the Madurastan Army passed through, they were welcomed by the local Thivean population as liberators. Most of the armor the Thivean Peoples Army had commited to the battles around their eastern frontier were now burning wrecks strewn across the battlefield and were being passed by Madurastan Army armor and soldiers heading west. The front now stretched 5 miles inside Thives eastern border and morale was high. Fort Stahl was now only 2 miles away which could be accomplished easily

Nikolai Treian sat at his desk reading the communiques from nations all over the world. All were condemnations of the coup and his government. "Doesn't matter. Once Hervia is under my control i can declare it part of Thive." An aide suddenly burst in. "We've lost the territory we gained in Hervia. Here is the latest report. 'All armor committed to battle lost. Have withdrawn from Hervia and are now being pursued by Madurastani forces. They are 5 miles inside our eastern border and no counterattack can be attempted due to the speed of their advance. Also parachutists have secured the Zaheran fort in strength. Nearby garrison destroyed by Madurastan air attacks.' Thats all sir." "Fine. You can go." After the aide left the room, Nikolai Treian started to seethe with rage. "I just can't believe it." He pounded the table with his fist, knocking over a small cup of vokda. "I underestimated the military response and it still isn't the whole response. The next few days will be crucial. But," he added. "I will do this with no international help as i think we don't need it." He walked over to his drinks cabinet and got a bottle of vodka. He filled up the cup and set the bottle back on the table. "I think it will be a long night" he thought, picking the full cup up draining the it in one go.

Fort Stahl

The base's sole SAM site detected the Hercules aircraft, but as the personnel had been ordered not to fire, the missile battery remained silent as hundreds of paratroopers jumped out of their airplanes and slowly descended to the ground. Rings of red magnesium torches marked their designated landing areas, so that they would not accidentally land in the minefields. When they landed, they were met by Zaheranian soldiers who guided them through the minefields towards the base itself. All wore striped red and blue scarfs tied to the left arm of their camouflage uniform to show their nationality.

At the heavily defended entrance to the base they were met by twenty more soldiers, these dressed in the characteristic black uniforms with the grinning skull on their breast pockets, shoulders and helmets. The higher officers were escorted to the command bunker, where colonel Diehm's staff would give them a full briefing, while the other Madurastanis were assigned positions along the long defence line. The heavy gate was shut behind them as the sentries resumed their guard duty.

Fifteen minutes later it opened again as the lead elements of the 101st Assault Division reached the base, like their comrades in the 1st Parachute Divisions guided by Zaheranian pathfinders. Under the cover of the machine guns in the sentry towers they began to march into the base, and the procedure began again. The men were led to their assigned positions in the now strengthened defence line, while the officers were given a briefing on the situation.

The colonel was beginning to feel better. The heavy mental strain he had felt during the last days was slowly melting away, replaced by a growing sense of confidence. It was with a relieved smile he looked at the Madurastani officers sitting around the table in the bunker's conferance room. The screen behind him showed a strategic display of Thive, with allied units marked out in blue and enemies in red. Squares, triangles and circles moved and twisted as the system recieved updated information, provided by satellites, intercepted communications and allied nations. A large blue arrow showed the advance of the 6th Division into Thive itself. From the information acquired, they calculated that the lead elements of the division would reach the base in a few hours.

Diehm rose from his seat as the last of the officers arrived.

"Good afternoon. Now that we are all here, I ask you for your attention for a few minutes. My name is Alexander Diehm, colonel, and I am, as you may have guessed, commander of this base. Firstly, I would like to thank you for the speed with which you have arrived here. I and my men were in a extremely precarious situation before you arrived. Now, with you here and your 6th Division just a few kilometers from here, we can finally breath out. Once again, thank you. Your men have been assigned positions along the defence line and should be digging in by now. When this briefing is finished, lieutenant Scheider here will show you were you will be quartered."

He turned towards the screen and pointed to the steadily advancing arrow.

"As you can see, the 6th Division's offensive has been very successfull so far. They have advanced approximately five miles into Thivean territory, and should be here quite soon. They will then continue towards the capital."

He pointed to the west coast of Thive. A large blue arrow crept forth under his finger and began to advance into the inland.

"This is the second offensive, which will start in forty-eight hours. It will consist of the 4th and 7th Madurastani Divisions, the 63rd Zaheranian Panzergrenadiers, which will be redirected from Madurastan itself now that the situation there has stabilised, and a Etoilian division. They will be supported by aerial and naval forces, as well as special forces from the involved nations. Although the offensive goals have not yet been declared, I personally believe one to be the capital, as that certainly would mean the end to the communist regime. Any questions?"

The spearhead of the 6th Divisions drive westward finally reached Fort Stahl. As the column continued forward, supplies began to be unloaded from the supply trucks which had dropped out of the column. The supplies were mainly food stuffs to feed the Zaheran soldiers that had held out for quite a while. While this was going on, new orders had been received. The 1st Parachute Division was to hitch a lift back to the nearest friendly airfield where the Hercules Transports would pick them up and take them back home as their job was done. The soldiers for the the 101st Assualt Division was to wait for and the Chinooks to come and pick them up as they were needed later for further operations.

With the landing on the west coast of Thive 24 hours away, the Madurastan Air Force began combat operations in the area. 50 B52Hs carrying their full load of 24, 750kgs (60,000lbs) of bombs took off from the Madurastan base in Hervia and began the journey to the target, a position where 12 120mm artillery guns covered the landing beach that the 4th Division would land on. The target had been overflown hours earlier by a UAV launched from MAC and it had reported that no AA defence was present.

The bombers flew towards the target supported by 40 F-25C Revolution Fighters and 12 MIG-31 Foxhound Fighters. As the bombers passed over the target, the bomb bays opened and each bombers load was released. Within minutes, the artillery guns had been silenced. The Thive garrison near to the target had been caught in the bombardment and had been totally destroyed.
As the sound of the B52s engines faded, the sound of fires raging out of control filled the air. If anyone had survived the explosions, the fires would slowly kill them.

The landing craft carrying the first wave of the 4th Division began to land on Red Beach. The landing was being carried out with no preliminary bombardment because Madurastan Special Forces had secured the defences above both beacheads.

Landing Craft carrying the first wave of the 7th Division began landing on Blue Beach. This beach was also protected by Madurastan Special Forces. Both beaches were connected to a main road which was now held by units of the 1st Parchute Division. 1 mile further inland, a forward base was held by the 101st Assualt Division. The Forward Base contained 2 landing zones which started to recieve reinforcements to prevent overcrowding on the 2 beaches.

The landing had gone well and whole of the 4th Division had been landed on Red Beach. On Blue Beach, most of the 7th Division had been landed and landing ships had came closer to shore and was ferrying ammunition and supplies to shore. A bridgehead of 2 miles had been established, with no contact with Thivean Peoples Army units.

Contained also were large reserves of gold, to support the new economy and government.

The pilots and few guards present on the aircraft were Barudiian nationals, and were under orders to transfer the planes themselves to the newly formed Stalinist government in Thive City, and also to offer their services, such as they were.

Your forces can use a cleared beach 1 mile south of Blue Beach. It is the same size as Blue Beach (1.2 miles long) and has safe routes off the beach.

24th December
19:45: Local

The 6th Division's advance had penetrated 15 miles inside Thives eastern border with ease. A continous front from the north to the south now existed with the Thivean Air Force completely destroyed on the ground. Meanwhile in the west, the 4th and 7th Divisions had penetrated 4 miles inland. This was due to the fact that the western area of Thive had been carpet bombed for 24 hours making the roads sometimes blocked by debris. This was taking time due to the second wave would have the engineers and their vehicles. The area was being secured so the second wave and the other forces could land without any problems.

The Osean ground forces started landing on Blue beach with the Madurastan 7th Division. The Osean fleet provided support by launching F-35s with various ground attack munitions and firing cruise missiles at important targets and enemy positions. A Corps was detatched from the Eighth Army and moved inland with the landed Madurastan forces. Soon the rest of the osean force would have landed and would soon move in.

Thive City, 22:30 Local

The air raid sirens in the city began wailing. Air raids on Thive's Capital had up to now been only pinprick raids on AA positions ringing the city. Civilians began rushing towards the shelters, now knowing what would happen next. As they rushed under cover, a wave of 60 B52H bombers each carrying a load of 300 2000lb bombs passed over them at 7000 feet. A military factory complex making munitions lay in front of them, their AA systems unable to fire.

As they approached the target, the crew opened their bomb bays. With still now resistance, the first B52dropped its full 60,000lbs of bombs directly over the target. At the same time, the other B52s released their loads, adding to the weight of high explosive raining down over the target. Exactly 12 seconds later, the first bombs crashed through the roof and detonated over an assembly line of tank shells. The resulting explosion enveloped the southwest area of the complex sending a shockwave in all directions. Several nearby buildings collapsed in on themselves as the blast destroyed their structures or tore the foundations from under them. Within 5 minutes a raging fire began to tear through the complex. The main building in the centre of the complex had been flattened as thousands of high explosive rained down.
Their job done, the bombers reversed their course back east and began heading home.

To Etoile Arcture Task Force

Your landing site is a beach north of Red Beach codenamed Green Beach. The enemy forces have been eliminated by air strikes and naval gunfire. The approaches to the beach have been secured by Madurastan Special Forces.


Even though it was Christmas, the Madurastan Air Force was keeping up its attacks on military installations, some being attacked for the 4th or 5th time.
On the ground, the bridgehead in the west now stretched 17 miles inland, now only 25 miles from Thive City. In the east, the Madurastan 6th Division was now only 16 miles from Thive City and its fall before New Years Day, the proposed end of the campaign, seemed certain.

Things weren't going so well for the Thivean President Nikolai Treian. His army had collapsed to under half its strength and 90% of its armor had been destroyed. He now lived in a bunker underneath the Presidential Home, which now lay in ruins because as he sat his desk, bombs were falling for the 3rd night in a row on Thive City, aimed at crippling the Stalinst apparatus of government. The Thivean Peoples Army now only controlled a 13 mile square area around the capital, which their military analysts had calculated that the war was lost, with the capital due to be surrounded in at least 24 hours.

OOC: This war has been short enough. We only just landed on the last page and now the enemy has already collapsed. I guess I'll finish them off.

The Oseans were somewhat surprised at the speed of the enemy's collapse. But they did not wait around. Soon they prepared to launch an attack to finish them off. They prepared their artillery to begin a 15 minute bombardment of the enemy positions around their capital with fragmentation, white phosphorus and high explosive shells and rockets. Then their forces would move in, supported by aircraft and limited artillery fire and with the armour acting as a spearhead for the attack.

OOC: It isn't over yet. A fierce fight for the capital still lies ahead.

OOC: From what I've seen of their performance in this RP, I doubt they will be able to hold out against my forces, which likely would have all landed by now. I also have air support from my carriers, which can launch a wave of up to 100 F-35s for the support of my troops.

The 4th, 6th and 7th Division had halted briefly for supplies, but now the attack had switched towards Thive City and the prize of the Parliament Building. The Presidential Home's bunker where Nikolai Treian would be hiding, was also a target. However, they would have to take the capital street by street before they got there.

Above Thive City, target flares lit up the night sky as the Madurastan Air Force visited for the 3rd night running. A first wave of 10 B52s dropping Incendiary bombs, followed by 30 B52s dropping high explosive set off a firestorm in the western part of the city, destroying any prepared defences that might have been in place and easing the Osean taskforces task of taking Thive City's Port.

The artillery of the entire Osean force, consisting of 1,200 Pilum Self-Propelled Howitzers and 600 Uragan multiple rocket launcher systems, launched a 15 minute bombardment on the enemy. Then the Osean armour roared forward towards their first objective, securing the port area. Out at sea, the carriers had launced their aircraft that soon was arriving and began to attack the Thivean forces with pecision guided muntions and air to ground missiles and strafing them with automatic cannons. At the same time, ships from the Osean fleet moved as close as they could to the port and began firing at the enemy.

The Thivean forces defending the port fired back with their 122mm Guns and PKM Machine Guns. Thivean infantry then charged forward in a furious counterattack.

The enemy infantry counter-attack was a foolish decision. By doing so, they exposed themselfs to withering fire from the much larger osean force. The F-35s strafed and bombed the enemy, while their tanks, APCs and other vehicles plowed through the enemy. The artillery was ordered to do another bombardment, this time directed at the ememy artillery and machine gun positions.

With their artillery support destroyed, the remaining Thivean infantry fell back into the port along with its remaining heavy machine guns and mortars. Many Thivean dead lay on the ground, adding to the appalling losses they have already suffered.

For three days AQ-39B Clarions had een playing their part in the bombing campaign against Thive City, able to fly continiously bar the fatigue of their handling crews. The unmanned bombers were now operating from bases in southern Madurastan and carrier groups that had moved into the Sea of Thive. The command center, EAS Galaxy, was coordinating the attacks along with combat air patrols of F/A-38A Sentinels that protected the ships and air refueling tankers. SH-79B Barracuda helicopters were also in action, flying down Red and Green beaches where multinational forces were landing on the west coast of Thive.

The 479 SOG had been inserted earlier in that evening, flown in by the 8077th brigade’s Pegasus quad tiltrotors from south Madurastan. Platoon’s had landed at various locations to secure the surfzone and positions up to two miles inland. UAVs were overflying the area providng reconnaisance imagery and over-the-horizon microwave relays. The special forces troopers fanned out into the country side in M96 trucks brought in by the tiltrotors. These were variously configured as weapon carriers towing 120 mm mortar and SLAMRAMM launcher trailer units, anti-armour vehicles, command trucks and of course gun trucks. No contact was made with the enemy, and by midnight an upposed landing of the main armoured task group begun. Amphibious groups that had been standing off the Madurastan coast slipped their moorings for the short cruise to Thivean waters.

The single armoured task group from Etoile Arcture was a relatively small component of the overall invasion, but it was also agile, easy to manage, and packing far more firepower than its size revealed. By 01:00 hours - H hour of the invasion - the first wave of Cataphract tanks and Talon+ fighting vehicles had been ferried to the beach LCAC hovercraft. The forward reconnaisance units linked up with the 479 SOG and Madurastan special forces. A second wave brought in SPH-158 and LARS-160 artillery, and M344 Wolverines in APC, armoured mortar carrier and air defence artillery configurations. The logistics train would be Osprey tiltrotors flying from the assault ships. Moving in a travelling overwatch armoured columns headed towards their objective only 25 miles away: Thive City. Even four Griffon gunships tasked to defend the beachhead in the event of a counterattack were now tasked to the assault, pausing only to briefly top off their tanks with refueling tankers before proceeding to the seat of the rebellion.

Supporting the Etoile Arcture attack, was the elements of the 4th and 7th Division who had stopped to let the Etoile Arcture forces catch up before continuing with them towards Thive City. They were now only 10 miles away after moving 15 miles in 10 hours with no resistance. This was due to above, was 2 AC-130U Gunships giving fire support from information given by Madurastan and Etoile Arcture UAVs.

In the east, the 6th Division had reached a line only 4 miles from Thive City and had set up their Reaver M2061a2 Medium MLRS Modules and 125mm Howitzers, to keep the city under fire while the allied forces raced in from the west.

The Oseans once again bombarded the Port area, this time for 30 minutes, in preperation for their final assault on the Port. This time they used fragmentation shells, phospherous shells and, something new, a small amount of shells containing Sarin nerve gas.

The Thivean infantry who had no gas masks fell down immediately as the sarin took effect. Most however had gas masks or were in their BMP-1 APCs with their NBC systems activated. They opened fire with their 73mm Guns in an attempt to slow the Oseans down. Some BMPs had been set alight by the phosphorus shells so their burning hulks provided some cover.

The Osean Tanks, designed to be capable of going against modern tanks with 120-125mm cannons, were not slowed down by the 73mm Guns. The tank moved in to engage the enemy APCs and artillery, while their own APCs deployed their infantry in the the battered port area and then provided them with support in the close quarter infantry fighting. The artillery continued to provide limited support with conventional shells and rocket. They continued to saturate the area with sarin gas as the average infantry uniform had decent NBC protection.

Green Beach

With the beaches secured by Madurastani and multinational forces, the 63rd Division began its landing. Landing crafts began to take off from the Thalberg-class amphibious assault ships that had taken them to Thive, carrying the lead elements of the elite division, which had already fought in the campaign to unite Madurastan itself. Men and vehicles began to disembark on Green Beach, under cover from the accompanying carrier group's Super Hornets. Reconnaissance and pioneer units were the first to land, along with a company of military policemen. They began to move forward as soon as they landed, to secure important road junctions and ensure that they eremained clear from other traffic as the bulk of the division began its march against Thive City.

It took another three hours before the majority of the division's personnel and vehicles had been unloaded. Two tank battalions were the first to leave the beach. Columns of bulky LY4 Wolfhound MBT's began their 25-mile journey towards the Thivean capital. As their usefulness would be limited in urban warfare, their main task was to crush any resistance remaining in the countryside and in the villages and towns along the way to the capital.

Half an hour later after the tanks, battalions of mechanised infantry began to leave the beaches. Behind them followed logistics vehicles, the division headquarters and engineering units. With the beach landings finished and the bulk of the division on its way towards Thive City, the naval aircraft switched to their secondary mission: carrying out attacks against enemy defences in the capital itself. Guided missiles began to hammer against strong defensive positions and suspected enemy headquarters of battalion's grade or higher, their targets chosen by the 63rd's intelligence personnel, who based their decisions on communication intercepts provided by the specialists at Fort Stahl and allied intelligence.

The BMP-1s exploded as 125mm and 135mm shells hit them. The remaining Thivean infantry however held their ground and continued to pour machine gun and rifle fire towards the advancing Osean infantry. Some Thivean soldiers tried to surrender but were cut down by their own fire and Osean fire. Their screams mixed with the gunfire, making an incredible noise.

In Thive City, the Zaheran guided missiles began to impact on their targets. Orange flashes burst above the buildings as the warheads detonated. All the targets that the missiles hit were destroyed. Many heavy positions had been destroyed, but 8000 Thivean Peoples Army soldiers remained in the capital ready for the final battle.

OOC: I said that my tanks were capable of going against tanks with 120-125mm cannons not that they were armed with 120mm cannons. I did give links in my ORBAT. My main battle tank, the T-91 Fox is armed with a 125mm electro-thermal gun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrothermal-chemical_technology) and my heavy tank, the T-100 Tiger 2 Heavy Tank is equipped with a 135mm electro-thermal gun.

Behind the advancing front, the work of humanitarian workers began. The local population was starting to recieve food and water supplies along with medical care. The war was slowly coming to an end, but hard fighting was still ahead.

The divisional headquarters had been established in a little town three miles west of the city. Large maps of Thive and the Capital had been mounted on a wall in the townshall. Small plastic squares and arrows in red and blue showed the disposition of enemy and allied forces. A couple of privates were busy crawling around and moving and adding symbols as more forces joined the fray around the city. The city itself was covered with a vast number of red symbols representating its defenders. It was estimated that around ten thousand enemy soldiers were still defending the city, a hard nut to crack, even with the sledgehammer they had at their disposal. To starve them out was not an option, they had recieved clear instructions about that from the highest quarter.

From their positions outside the city, the division's artillery, consisting of 72 Ly300 'Manticore' multiple rocket systems, began to hammer the enemy positions with concentrated missile fire as the infantry readied themselves for the assault. Blocks and city sections containing suspected strong defensive positions were pounded with dozens of missiles, enough firepower to level anything posed a threat to the incoming troops. The artillery barrage continued for ten minutes. Then came the defeaning roar of hundreds of engines as IFV's began to roll towards the city. Attack helicopters flew ahead to eliminate any defences that still remained with their missiles.

The Oseans now moved on to an all out bombardment of the city. The F-35s dropped cluster and conventional bombs on the city while the artillery bombarded all troop positions that were not too close to osean or friendly forces. They continued to use gas, this time a mixture of Sarin and mustard gas, against enemy positions in the port area, due to their own troops protection. The osean infantry soon entered into close combat with the enemy, using their vast numerical superiority to swamp the enemy. They were also well equipped using sub-machine guns, RPG-29s, PKM macine guns and the grenade launchers mounted on their assault rifles combined with other weapons to give them an advantage in firepower. They were still supported by the APCs, Tanks and other fighting vehicles.

By mid afternoon the encirclement of Thive City appeared complete by multinational forces. In Etoile Arcture’s sector combat engineering tractors had dug revetments for artillery and hull down positions for tanks. An hour before the assault a battery fired cargo shells into the city that carried leaflets warning the inhabitants to seek the safety of shelters and calling on the communists to surrender while they still could.

Advanced units entered the city outskirts to conduct a reconnaisance in force, supported by MQ-9B Reapers flying overhead as eyes and ears. They could call on everything from naval strike aircraft, unmanned bombers, tiltrotor gunships and attack helicopters, in addition to artillery. These units both expected - and desired - contact with the enemy, having the aim of locating enemy force concentrations and strongpoints at street level, and handing off those locations by JTRS networks and Link 16 datalinks for air power and artillery to nuetralise with precision weapons in an attempt to minimise the damage done to the city.

If unable to remove the enemy that way, then infantry would debus from the fighting vehicles and clear the city blocks. The infantry enjoyed superior situational awareness to the communists, including both sensors and communications, and could move rapidly and near-silently when using the electric drive modes of their vehicles. They could therefore assault without warning into buildings, giving defenders no time to detect or react to an attack.

Alarmingly, chemical agents, albeit in small amounts, was also being detected in the atmosphere. Flash warnings to multinational forces of a possible chemical attack by the communists turned to an urgent communication from the Etoile Arcture command post to Osean commander to cease his gas attacks in the port area for the safety of the unprotected civilian population.

An enormous fleet of carriers, destroyers, fast-attack crafts, and supply/amphibious ships were quickly received orders nearest to Madurastan. The order was simply engage the coastlines and provide peace and order within the ports. The Patrol Fleet consisted of 23,000 marines and several attack helicopters, as well as strike fighters. While receiving orders of deployments and positioning, six groups of twelve F-16 strike fighters left the carriers for their destination toward Madurastan, as the rest of the fleet heads toward there.

This surrender takes effect immediately. All Thivean Peoples Army soldiers will surrender to the any multinational unit.

All allied units will suspend combat operations immediately and initiate humantarian operations. Madurastan Units have entered Thive City to destribute aid to the capital. Thive City International Airport has been captured by the Madurastan 7th Division which now allows humanitarian aid to be flown in. Tomorrow will be declared VT Day. (Victory in Thive Day).

The strike fighters that were deployed made their way to Madurastan.

"This is Alpha 67, we are inbound." The radio went straight to Patrol Fleet Task Force 1-2-4.

"Alpha 67, proceed to mission."

Task Force 1-2-4 had also contacted the Mandurastan government.

"Hold your surrender, we are inbound."

The strike fighters went to a closer range and fired their munitions on the combat zone at both sides, releasing their thousand-pound bombs and strike-precision missiles, each was an accurate blow to the steel armor and infantries in sight.

"Alpha 67, we have released our goods, now returning."

The Osean commander stopped his chemical attacks, and with the Thivean Governments surrender, halted all combat operations. They then immediadly began to move aid into the city.

Another round of twelve B-2 bombers, carrying cluster bombs, begin aerial bombing runs on the Thives City with Osean military units.

With the 16th Division heading in to help peacekeeping in Thive and 17th Division coming to take over from the 6th Division in the permenant Madurastan base in Hervia, things could get back to normal. "Leocardian vessels, if you enter Madurastan waters you will be fired upon. A peaceful solution can be made now. We are still recovering from a war that has scarred our nation for years. We wish to not harm you."

Task Force 1-2-4 listened to no one but the LMOCC, and they meant the new enemy, Mandurastan. Resulting from the message, the twelve Type 051B and Type 052B destroyers sped their way closer inbound into Mandurastan coastlines, ready to fire at anything coming in their way.

OOC: I would like to give Madurastan my deepest sympathies for your loss, and I would totally understand if you have to break off RPing. I just want to say I've really enjoyed RPing with you and I hope that cimrcumstances will allow you return to NS soon.

@ Leocardia, I also have to say what you've done is wrong on many levels. You've gate-crashed this RP without any thought to other players here, you're trying to railroad Madurastan into an invasion he hasn't agreed to and when he has more important RL issues to deal with, and as this is inconvenient to you, then try and get another player to play Madurastan - without his permission. As for roleplaying etiquette, you don't RP things like invasions and wars without the other players consent, and you've god-modded moving a massive invasion force into the same area in which four other nations (EA, Osea, Zahera and Alfegos) are operating in, or have you simply not read this thread? The right thing to do would be to respect Madurastan when he has a RL emergency to deal with and put this RP on hold.

I think what you guys are saying is completely wrong. The thread clearly says "Open" and so I plan an invasion expecting it to be open. You guys are criticizing me for coming in when it's "Open." It is open, and not closed. I'll take back my deployments, but I'm still bitching.
