Winter Meetings (att. LBZ)

Kurona

Kurona was preparing to welcome it's old friend out of isolation. The royal family was preparing by preparing their own welcomes and own tasks. Tomoyo gave a prayer at her Shinto shrine wishing for more blessings to come from her meeting. Her last gave her a beloved husband and two beautiful daughters. She of course desired more in the future.

Upon the docking of the LBZ ship the carriage arrived in Sonomi an hour later. "Her majesty is in here." He was lead into a classy room with a roaring fire, a tall Christmas tree and lovely furniture.

"Welcome to Kurona." Tomoyo greeted.

William de la Roche had never visited Kurona but he had heard much about it through the newspapers which had constantly talked about the marriage of its monarch to some average citizen from the Empire he served. He had been wearing a very well made winter coat and was armed with a hidden self-defense pistol and his briefcase as he walked into the room where the Princess had been. He looked around, noticing the Christmas tree, and wondered if he had been sent to meet a monarch in her own living room. That was irrelevant, though. He bowed, gave the usual formula, and then took his seat with a quick glance at the tree. Just recently, he had set up holiday decorations at his mansion. After all, he had a family of his own and they needed to take part in the joyful season. "This is a pleasure, Your Highness, to be meeting you. I trust your family is doing well. His Majesty sends his best regards. I believe, first of all, that we must discuss the embassy situation. I assume, prior to my nation's isolation, that we had an embassy in Sonomi.....forgive me if I am in error, Your Majesty, but do we still have that embassy there? If not, I request that we regain it. For the sake of diplomatic relations, of course."

William smiled. "It would be essential to discuss trade as well. I am sure Kurona will take an interest in the Empire's goods such as gold and wheat. Perhaps there is a resource that Kurona needs? If so, just tell me what it is. You may also ask me anything you wish, Your Highness, and I'll do my best to answer your question."

Tomoyo bowed in return as they both took a seat.

"You are correct, we had an embassy before it was closed. And I wish we simply could move you back in, but I'm afraid we had a tornado recently and much of the building was destroyed, and we haven't rebuilt it, because of your nation's isolation. So we will have to rebuild it for you.

Kurona would like more lumber so we don't have to heavily depend on our own forests for the wood we use to build ships and homes. Also radios have become a growing trend among our popplus, thus it's helped reduce weather related fatalities. But they're expensive because business have to custom build and import parts. If we can trade more technology, we can reduce the prices."

William nodded.

"I believe that our embassy in Kurona ought to be swiftly rebuilt. It would surely be no problem for us at all to procure some lumber for you; provided that we were given some goods in return. Radio technology can also be given to you under the same condition. Now, what else shall we discuss? I am sure you've got some ideas for topics in your mind."

"It shall be done. We'll try to ensure it's stronger this time.

Well there's the matter of continuing our culture programs. We've had tremendous results with those, I recall a student marrying one of our own citizens, and of course, my beloved husband."

William was intrigued.

"Those cultural programs could surely be continued, Your Majesty, so there is no need to worry about them. I must say that I find the notion of intermarriage interesting; a citizen of my nation really married a Kuronan? Well, I guess that's what happens when love hits you. Anything else? If not, I suppose we can get something made official and then end our little engagement."

"Would LBZ be interested in opening a University? Currently Sonomi University is our only Secondary Education school.

Other than that, I don't believe I have much more to say with you."

"Opening a university? That is an interesting proposal. I think we could arrange something but I'm not promising anything at the moment. You ought to have more universities. Isn't there a burden upon Sonomi University right now?"

"It's certainly heavily populated but not as much as you think. Only about 20% of our populous peruses a secondary education. Others settle down on their family farm, fishery, or attend a finishing school then get married. Otherwise they go overseas. But I think we could use another school."

"I'll send word back home and then relay their response to you. I suppose we can end this discussion here, then? Let's just make the trade and so forth official first."

"Excellent. Good day to you, Your Majesty, and to your family as well." William said before heading out of the room with a smile upon his face. Everything seemed to have gone well.
