Doctor Jeremiah Kar sat at a round table, with a folder of papers detailing the success of Project: TITAN, as well as info on other projects. He had been presenting the results of various projects being worked on within the Perseus Facility. The drive to create new class of ships and adapt tactics to a new environment of war, to make a form of terraforming technology to clean up radiation and perhaps even germinate life across the galaxy. And finally, they needed new weapons, armor, and shielding, if they were to compete with the alien empires and nations that awaited them beyond their borders. Even now, they all lived in fear of a powerful alien force breaking their fortified borders and laying waste to them. So it was that a new project was unleashed, Project: HEPHAESTUS. He had been informed on the military's plan to increase funding and begin overhauling their current arsenal of offensive and defensive technologies. His budget was large, his staff increased, and he was given carte blanche with the technological arsenal and scientific community to develop anything that could give them the edge.

And so it was that he was sitting down with a board of four other scientists, all whom lead their own parts of their project, in order to determine what they had and what their plans were. Kar nodded at them all, checking to ensure they were all ready. Upon seeing the answering nods, he waved a hand at one and said. "We'll begin with you. What do you have for us?" The scientist, a middle-aged man with greying hair, shifted in his chair as he pulled out several papers to refer to. He activated a screen to display the technologies he spoke of.

"Very well, Doctor. As you all are well-aware, we have only basic technology in the arena of shields. It has a decent defense against kinetic weaponry, but nothing against the might of other weapons in that field we've seen in the ESUS archives. Even our own Kinetic Deployment System is able to tear through them with ease. Not to mention its total lack of stopping power when dealing with energy weapons. So, we have begun research into the field of energy shields capable of stopping energy weapons and increased power to make them able to take heavy pounding from both kinetic and energy. We have set long-term goals to deal with powerful technologies such as dimensional and temporal weapons, but we all have agreed that we cannot do such a feat as of yet. The personal energy shields the Godulans have given us have been particular helpful, but we've only made strides in personal shielding; ship shields are going to take some time."

Kar nodded. "Understood. Mary, you're next."

The next scientist coughed and began to speak. "Thank you, Jeremiah. We are currently developing weapons technology. Our KDS system is fine, we only really need to revamp the delivery system. There are also discussions of having an 'artillery' class of ship designed for long range operations. But that is for another time. Currently, we are concentrating research on more efficient kinetic weapons, moving into magnetically acceleration, and continuing the advancement of energy weapons. Specifically, the Focused Energy Cannons. Those will be a key asset to us in future battles."

Kar turned his gaze on the last scientist, whom began to speak. "Research on better Faster-than-Light drives are under way, and we have gotten several ideas on what to use from ESUS archives. However, it is going to be difficult to pick on and structure it. We are receiving more data by the day, but it is going to be difficult going."

Jeremiah nodded. "Very well. You all have your budgets, crew, and equipment. I will administer the entire project, but my main effort will be finalizing Project: TITAN, which is close to success. Now go, and bring forth the keys to securing mankind's existence in the galaxy." They all nodded before standing up and leaving. They had work to do and the sooner they started, the better.
