High-speed, low-latency communication is a fundamental requirement for all space faring species whether internally or externally. So the idea came to The Garbage Men's Chief Information Officer, Lander Reagon. The Garbage Men already have extensive network available to them for their communication needs but, what about opening up this network as an additional service to customers?

The process involved the CMO, CPO, CSO and himself discussing pro's and cons of the service both internally to The Garbage Men Corporation and it's customers. The decision was to go ahead, the project would require some minimal alterations to the current array of communication devices employed but the benefits would be extensive, particularily for the customers.

Benefits:

Advanced Security:

- Evolving Cryptography - All communcations are encrypted using numerous extremely high quality cryptographic methods that seemlessly change the method and the cyptographic key frequently changes. (Entire information 'packet')

- Authentication/Spoof Protection - All clients that connect to the network have their identity verified. When you send or receive information you can be sure of the identity of the person receiving or sending it.

- Virtual Private Networking - The IGDCN supports all known networking/communications protocols which require their own settings to establish network connections between communication devices. This automatically creates a virtual private network between members of the IGDCN with these settings and most of which also require their own authentication on top of IGDCN's

- De-centralised management - Each physical device apart of the IGDCN automatically manages it's own section of the network which means that there can be no centralised monitoring of the network by anyone. Each device however does provide stats, including uplink and downlink maximum speeds as well as data throughput. To help the corporation determine when a particular connection needs to be upgraded or another link should be created.

Connectivity:

- Reliable Connection - This distributed nature of the network allows for dynamic re-routing of packets around broken links or links undergoing heavy interference to natural or artificial phenomena.

- High Speed, Low Latency - The devices used within the IGDCN provide remarkable data throughput speeds transferring large amounts of data quickly and safely over the network. The Technologies used as part of these devices also means that time taken to Transmit these packets across vast distances of space are shortened dramatically. We are able to set-up network tests to show you just how fast communication through the IGDCN can be.

- Wide Coverage - Due to the already wide spread business operations of The Garbage Men, the network infrastructure utilised by the IGDCN is for the most part already in place. With future plans for extending the IGDCN into new areas

You have entrusted us with taking care of your waste, now let us take care of all your communication needs the IGDCN is now open and available for governments, corporations and other businesses for quite reasonable prices.

If you have any queries please don't hesitate to contact us, and we take security of the network very seriously if you can provide feedback on this topic it will be greatly appreciated and anyone who utilises the IGDCN for unauthorised access of a connected system will be harshly dealt with.

OOC: This would be a great idea, in theory.

In practice, however, most civilizations already have FTL communication.

IC: "Ah well, at least we can put the blame on someone else if something goes wrong."

We are interested in this "Intergalactic Distributed Communications Network". What do we have to do to sign up?

OOC: Yeah though I would like it be a sort of FT internet where everyone can interact with everyone over FTL distances. Whether government, individual citizenry or business men.

OOC: Noble goal.
