I am going to begin my first MT armed combat conflict soon, and though I have experience RPing FT, I have none in regards to fighting MT. I would like to provide the most enjoyable, authentic experience for my fellow RPers as I can in the upcoming game (all furries aside :p) in which I will be RPing defensively. For this end I wish to become enlightened about military lingo, nicknames for things, acronyms, and so on. Also, what would chatter between two fighter pilots moving to intercept a target sound like? What would chatter sound like between soldiers in combat? Between two ships patrolling home waters? I really don't know much about this area, and any tips or links to websites that can help me with this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

www.tubedaze.com = navy chatter on the midwatch

As for pilot to pilot chatter, expect none once engaged in combat besides requests for assistance and REMF/AWACS/GCI chatter attempting to vector reinforcements to the proper locations*. Maybe a few in-air-briefings, but generally weapons and fuel would be completely expended after heavy fighting anyways.

Chatter and shooting the breeze are kinda timeless, if you did good in FT, you'll do fine in MT.

As for techno-lingo...

*Long range radar has epic poor resolution, so any estimated numbers are exactly that, educated guesswork.

Long-range Air combat using radar is kinda like the pair of fellows with bazookas and flashlights in a dark room (unlike space, where simply warming a cup of coffee screams "Why Hullo thar!! Lets be friends! :3" compared to the ambient blackness of space on even a simple IIR sensor), stealth is like camo (it reduces effective range), and active radar cancelation is the most epicly eveloved form of jamming so far developed short of hard-killing the enemy's air-defenses.

So an AWACS or ground-control station pretty much is attempting to use one or more sets of very good eyes coupled with the biggest radar they could find, and then placed in the most advantagous position they could put it. They then point the relatively "blind" interceptors roughly in the right direction.

Other than that, I don't even know where to start with you...
You could just make it up as you go* along till you insult a serviceman on these forums. At which point they'll proceed to bite your head off and enlighten you simltaniously.

The Gameplay forum is for discussing things unrelated to roleplay. It's not the OOC roleplay forum.

The list of military acronyms is gargantuan, and varies depending on the country. And, according to other military types on these forums, most of the combat chatter between infantry is restricted to giving target indications ("axis of advance, half left, behind the tree, two enemy with RPK"), queries ("we are in the middle of a forest, dipshit, which fucking tree?"), orders ("shut up and fire, fuckknuckle") or miscellaneous humour ("Sir, how good is this" - spoken enthusiastically while counter-charging after being shelled).
