External news reel from a reported within Kushraan

Earlier today, Sultan Husam al Din Ghazi of Kushraan announced the creation of a militia force within the nation. The force is designed to protect the nation and will be fully armed and equipped for the task. Concerns over the recent news of stepping up national security and introducing ID cards have resurfaced, and critics are condemning the move. They say that the national army is adequate for Kushraan's needs, but Sultan Husam al Din appears to be seeing it from a different perspective.

"In these modern times where nations may seek to threaten our very sovereignity, His holy grounds, and further more, our freedom, we cannot look at the present. We must look to the future! What comes tomorrow must be prepared for today, as doing later means to be done too late."

ID card production is well under way, and the cards are due to be introduced within the next month. They will be carried by all citizens, and a temporary pass will be issued to any visitor and also to any foreign national working within Kushraan. Those against ID card introduction say that their freedoms are lacking, but when approached declined to give comment. Their fears are that the militia will be little more than a secondary police force. It is unknown yet as to the details of the new militia.

((OOC: Kushraan, is your nation Arab? If so, we can have fun little tensions. The Elijah Islands are like a NationStates Israel. 'Nuff said.))

To: Sultan Husam al Din Ghazi, Kushraan.
From: Elijah Islander Prime Minister, Elena Elijah.
Subject: Kushraan Militia.

Dear sir,

Elijah Islands feels that the creation of the 'militia force' was unrequired, as these men could be better trained in the Armed Forces and that some nations may see this 'militia' as a threat.

While we encourage Kushraan to build it's Armed Forces further, the creation of a militiant army is not needed for reasons already stated. Better trained soldiers will always offer better protection, as proven on numerous occasions.

Yours Sincerly,
Prime Minister Elena Elijah.

(OOC: The idea behind it is hardline islamic, and although it may not be lifelike, Im attempting to make it pretty damn close. A little RP is a great idea.)

A protest against the new militia force in the capital city of Kushraan today was met with heavy resistance from the military. The Sultan had this to say: "Clamping down on these people is more than necessary for the future of our wonderful nation! This is a fact clear to see. Those that stand in our way, and those that condemn us, are no better than those that seek to destroy us. By obstructing our path, they are sentencing you, my people, to death! Is this not obvious? Is this what you would wish upon yourselves?"

The first men will finish militia training, and will join the new Ab-Muhaj force soon. Fears over the Ab-Muhaj's creation have rung in the ears of other leaders, not just those who took to the street earlier today. One man spoke anonomously to us earlier, and stated that the Ab-Muhaj was like a 'crack force', was 'well trained and equipped', and was likely to be 'the underhand of the armed forces'. Early reports indicate that many were injured in the earlier confrontation, and one fatality has been reported.

From: Duke Blaise - Duchy of Rechburg.
Subject: Militia.

Sir,
Though we may not share common spiritual beliefs, I believe we do share a common belief in that the desire for a nation to be able to decide on its own internal policies should be paramount.

The formation of the Militia, is clearly a matter for internal discussion and decision making. Clearly you have decided to take a stance that ensures the continuing strength and security of your realm, this in the light of over-bearing Governments that threaten and take advantage of the weak is perfectly understandable.

Please be assured of my Governments good will, and we will watch your nation progress with great enthusiasim. I would consider it an honour to extend to you an invitation to open a Embassy in Malmaison the Capital of Rechburg.

If my nation can be of any assistance with trade or development please be assured you will receive a sympathetic hearing from my Government.

Yours Sincerely

Duke Blaise.

Duke Blaise,

It is with great regret that I must say I am sceptical of any offer during this time, as it seems supporters are hard to come by. With growing strength of a nation comes interest from third parties and other nations, and it is something I cannot escape.

I would therefore like it to be a relationship between your own nation of Rechburg, and the nation of Kushraan, that paves the way for others to follow. Trade and diplomacy between us is something I would appreciate, and am willing to seek. Embassy exchange is no doubt a wise first step in this process, and I would also invite you to send your own nationals to open an embassy within Kushraan.

May He give safe passage for us both,

Sultan Husam al Din Ghazi.

Subject: Diplomacy

Sir
Your Scepticism is perfectly understandable and in this modern world very much warranted. I would encourage you to be wary of nations seeking advantage over you. Please be assured however that My Governments approach to you come purely from a friendly diplomatic posture, you are a Pacific nation as are we. Your nation is developing and needs encouraging and support, both these aspects we offer you.

We seek nothing from you, apart friendly relations and fair trade.

Your Embassy grounds have been prepared and we will send Mr Alan Short one of our most experienced diplomats to represent us within your nation.

Yours Sincerely

Duke Blaise.

We will welcome Mr Short into our nation, and have obtained any paperwork for you that is required.

I will be sending Tariq Afzal, a close and trusted ambassador, within the week. I sincerely hope this will be the start of a strong and healthy diplomatic relationship between our two most serene and glorious nations.
