New Continent Open For Colonization: Novus Orsa [MT]

OOC: I tried getting involved in another colony thread, came up with a nice plot to explain how my government will get out of its economic recession and it appears the thread is pretty much dead. I don't want to completely abandon the plot so I decided to create my own my continent on which I will create a colony.

I am going to allow a small number of people to colonize the land, roughly around three depending on the size of the colonies. Please choose a fair sized colony both relative to your population and to ensure others also get a fair sized plot of land. I don't want one person with a huge plot of land and two with very small plots. I would also like it very much if you could edit your own claim onto the map. There isn't much in the way of landmarks to help me outline your plot of land so it just makes things easier.

Please also note that I am looking for active, detailed RPers who are interested in taking this beyond just grabbing up some land. It is my hope that by making this a smaller, much tighter knit sort of thing I can encourage more interaction, whether good or bad. I am not looking to fight a huge war over this land and those that are interested in such will be turned away. I do not have any problem with political disagreements, cold war style actions or small unit covert operations.

I will allow you to create your own climate, resources ect, however please note this is a jungle island and since weather and geographical features don't usually stop at a borders I expect that there is going to b some overlapping.

In order to join please provide a map with your claim on it, some information on how active you can be. You can also provide links to past RPs if you want. I am usually quite active during the week, not very active on the weekends.

IC:

Discovering New Lands
Specter Three Four was an Orbathian CH-53E carrying a platoon (24) of Orbathian Air Calvary soldiers conducting training exercises in water insertion. The helicopter was operating off of the deck of a Wasp Class ship, one of several in the area, part of a naval Task Force conducting usual patrols. The helicopter had experienced both guidance and engine malfunctions during the training. The pilot thought he was returning to the ship, but instead flew into bad weather. The helicopter was battered by torrents of rain and very high level winds. The helicopter had to strain itself to fight against the elements, using even more fuel than usual. Although the helicopter had a very, very long range, it eventually ran out of fuel. Through the thick rain, the pilot spotted an island getting closer and closer. Since crashing into the island would be riskier, he instead guided the helicopter as close as possible. He allowed the soldiers to insert using the rear hatch of the helicopter to drop an inflatable raft into the water.

The soldiers paddled vigorously and the strong waves brought them quickly onto the island. They immediately worked together to construct a shelter and create a fire. The section each took turns searching the coast for the pilots, whose helicopter had crashed into the ocean. Eventually both pilots were found.

Several hours later the service men were found by a search and rescue team operating from the Task Force. The SAR was amazed to find them on land, considering that there wasn't supposed to be any there. Military command was notified and the message was passed on to President Flint.

A New Beginning
President Flint discussed the island with his staff. He kept it a secret, sending several small teams of soldiers and researchers to do tests on the island. He also had the island mapped out. Eventually he chose the area that he believed to be the most beneficial to Orbath. He also allowed Count Andrews, ruler of Orbath's colony of Throppe to choose a small plot of land. This plot would essentially be the colony of a colony. Soon, a Task Force of ships was dispatched to the continent, their first task was to secure Orbath's claim border. On the eve of the ships arrival in what Flint deemed Orbath's colonial waters, Flint issued a statement to the international community.

On November 24th, an Orbathian helicopter carrying a platoon of Orbathian soldiers experienced bad weather. Unable to fight the weather, the helicopter pilot allowed the soldiers to disembark onto a raft while he safely crash landed the helicopter into the ocean. The soldiers and pilots eventually found themselves on a previously unknown and unclaimed patch of land. This unnamed continent shall now be called Novus Orsa, or New Beginning. I am also announcing the government of Orbath has chosen to colonize an area of this land, for the time being to be known as Orbath Minor. There is still unclaimed area which Orbath has no plan to colonize and therefore is open to others who may wish to do so. This land is not open to illegal organizations, terrorists or pirates and the government of Orbath will act strongly to ensure this continent is not used in support of the above type of groups' perverted policies. I must ask that nations wishing to colonize this land respect our borders. I would like to ask that nations provide Orbath with details of their claims in order to ensure nobody is trampled upon. May all find prosperity!

Signed, William Flint, President of Orbath

i'll split the south with New Kereptica

edit: sorry right my legend... up red is my colony, green can be a contested area between whoever takes the south, for a little heated confrontation RP?
North Calaveras
04-12-2008, 06:06
I already claimed the area to the south-east(basicaly the whole eastern side)
[NS:]Delesa
04-12-2008, 06:06
I've got the northwest, not the south. Green is mine.

right... i read it wrong my bad haha

edit: hell it was North Calaveras not New Kereptica, sorry bout that

OOC: The Beatus is accepted, New Kerepticia is accepted. [NS:]Delesa, NC has not been accepted . Do you still want the land you have claimed? NC your claim is too large.
[NS:]Delesa
04-12-2008, 06:15
sweet well lets see i set it up that that green area is like... unclaimed, or claimed by both rather. So there are often skirmishes and such in there, meanwhile where our two colonies connect along that western river it will be a big up on either side like Egypt and Israel in the 60s-70s or whatever
North Calaveras
04-12-2008, 06:15
okay, you can cut my claim in half then.
Orbath
04-12-2008, 06:25
OOC: NC you can have the southern most 'half'' closest to [NS:]Delesa. Both of you can decide what you want to do with the green area, whether you want it to be a ''shared'' area or an area controlled by one but fought over ect. I'll update the map soon, but I have a very slow computer so it make take some time. This leaves room for one more claim, south of the Beatus' orange area and North of where I end NC's claim. Don't bother with the map, just claim it and If your approved I'll add it when I do the update to the map.

well my portion of yours like barely a third and a little chunk the 'conflict' zone haha but yeah working on a IC post.

are we going to have a separate thread for IC and this be our map/ooc thread?

NC I'm not usually a very picky person, however the international message was released on the eve of my task force's arrival, so in order to make that assumption it would have to be a couple days after that message.

NC has chosen to pull out. Delesea and Stok, would you like to split the land? Oh I should have mentioned this earlier but this continent does not have a native population. I was thinking maybe natives existed at one time but ''mysteriously'' disappeared. Could make for an interesting RP actually.
[NS:]Delesa
05-12-2008, 07:04
na im going to keep my original plot, nice and small :D
Stoklomolvi
05-12-2008, 07:31
I'll grab a small piece. I'm not looking for huge colonisations here. :P

Could I have natives in my small plot? A barren island is no fun.
Orbath
05-12-2008, 07:40
Ok then, I'll expand your claim a bit. That still leaves a fair sized chunk of land for someone who might want it. Stok do you think Yanis would be interested?

As for the issue of natives, we can write them in here somehow. Any ideas though, I don't want to contend with natives myself, I'm not sure about everyone else.
Stoklomolvi
05-12-2008, 07:50
Possibly, though he seems to not be very active.
The Beatus
05-12-2008, 08:05
Well, just say natives are on me, and Stok's corner of the island, and avoid yours, because it is "haunted," or "forbidden." Natives, will make things more fun. Convert as many as we can, and work the rest to death :D
Orbath
05-12-2008, 08:12
Yeah haunted sounds like a good enough reason for me, although to make things realistic, there are going to be a few native settlements within my borders. So if you want natives, your welcome to them, if you don't, your land is haunted. Hardly seems fair :) .
Northern Colonies
05-12-2008, 09:50
Is there still land left?
Niraamaya
05-12-2008, 11:37
I want a quarter of the remaining land, the one with most natives in it.

Oh, and I wanna fight for moar territoiez, so plz put meh n3xt t0 0t|-|3r c|41|\/|z. kthxbai </lolspeak>
Orbath
05-12-2008, 13:30
There is still land left but I would prefer to have only one more applicant. Therefore, Niraamaya, are you interested in the whole plot of land?
Niraamaya
05-12-2008, 14:00
Yes, I would. Thanks.
Orbath
05-12-2008, 14:29
Ok then, consider yourself accepted, I'll update the map to reflect these changes.

New map
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/5530/novusorsazk5.png

Delesea, do you want to claim the green area or keep it as a disputed area? Your more than welcome to keep it disputed, we can find some type of RP, perhaps that is where some of the natives will make a last stand or something.

Additionally, resource wise, the southern most part of my claim will consist of excellent farming areas, and around the bay, major fishing areas. In the west it will be mostly mining, though I haven't decided of what, so perhaps NK, we can choose the same things and try to keep it consistent. I'm not really sure what I'd like in the north, so I'm wondering what NK, Beatus and Stok want to have resource wise in that particular area.
[NS:]Delesa
05-12-2008, 22:39
yeah i would like to keep in contested, and i fight with yellow over it or something, can be a RP for time to come, small skirmishes, heated debates, political turmoil... the works :D not to mention your idea of a land stand of natives.
New Kereptica
05-12-2008, 23:02
Orbath, whatever you put in your north I'll put in my south. I'll also have to work with Stok on the east.
The Beatus
06-12-2008, 06:39
I was thinking, some mountains tapering off to hills towards the borders, if the others wish, to make a more smooth transition, with fertile valleys where the rivers are, good for farming, and such. I think the coast on my corner of the island, while have cliffs, with many caves and coves, with difficult an perilous paths from the shore to the top of the cliffs.
Orbath
07-12-2008, 10:32
Ok, resources in the north will be the odd mine and several oil fields. Logging will take lace for quite awhile, then once the colony develops further, I think it will become more urbanized, with factories to process the resources.

That is your north right? Assuming it is, those oil fields most likely won't end at the borders, so theoretically, if some one else tapped it in their claim first, or was pumping more out, they could easily get the most of an oil field, that may be mostly in your claim, with only a small bit in theirs. It will all come down to who finds it first, and who can get the most equipment in to get it out. More reason for conflict :p !
[NS:]Delesa
07-12-2008, 21:32
are these natives like primitive as in bows and arrows, or like outdated weapons? for now i'm just going to RP outdated rifles and the such, if we change it, i'll change my post accordingly.

Again that sounds like a good idea for an RP. As for the natives, since the land is undiscovered, they wouldn't really have access to rifles.

who said they didn't make their own? perhaps that had industrialization period but remained with a strong isolation foreign policy? haha fine though
