For the first time in the nations short history the commonwealth put out a message to the other nations. It's constituent nations being much older had held back, being non-human attracting attention has never been a good idea. Together they now feel strong enough to, to give a call as a wealthy trading nation. It read:

Sasha sat back in her chair, just having read the e-mail sent to her. Her eyes flashed in annoyance, but softened in the scheming way they adopt when hatching a plan. Her tail swished back and forth as she types on the intangible keyboard projected onto her mahogany desk.

As to our people, we are diverse, and in that comes out strength. The lupines, a wolf like people, in the far north and the other baronies, along with the islands of Sae and Uotter off out the west. The drewns surrounded by them and the sea to the east, the desert tribes, desert vulpine. To the south of them over the leck mountain range the teuie another vulpine race. Then to their south the Teerie, I shall come back to them.

On the isle of Inleef the leefen a race of black pumas(1) and off the west cost Acta, the adopted home land of the Ais, the Actu that inhabit our net. Further south is the island of Emass, the home of the raptoriens, a dinosaurien people and the dragonians in the mountains. Most dragonians are in excess of twenty meters, but do keep them selves to them selves, but their two Mps do add something to the chamber.

Then you have the peoples that are unique to Cal, the Hybes and the Teerie. The Teerie are our oldest civilisation, some three thousand years old, if not older. They are a people of arboreal skunks, green where they should be black. The naturally toxic swamp they live over has mutated them and their them genes are less than stable. Thus the hybes.

The hybes are hybrids, but are always green in fur, the teerie carry a gene that allows hybridisation and their tendency to mate with almost anything has spread it. The hybes have been persecuted in our not very glorious past.

We are more of a salad bowl than a melting pot.

I do not believe sending a fleet would be helpful, how ever a loan naval vessel of cruiser class or your equivalent might be the best action if you wish to start relations. As trade is the life blood of the commonwealth a small show of force is likely to make my life easier.

I am in charge of a minority government so would much rather not have to use my executive powers. It really annoys the other parties. Just make sure the she is visible, I believe tin foil is helpful.

Being foreign relations minister means finding new links and bonds to make our nations stronger, I believe our strong natural mineral and fish trade may be of use to you. We are a small nation with three other sub islands (Trinity, Mercia and Soffia) We have a very strong homegrown army built on several strong principles close to the Queens heart.

We are a monarchy, we have a successful queen Arana, but she is childless, she is mother to her country and is this week turning 20.

We are a sociable, welcoming nation and would not turn down the offer of a liason with you.

Salato looked at the message, she knew that the lucan council (the monarchs and heads of state of the commonwealth) were far better at match making, but a human? They wanted children, she figured even they could not manage that, OK the teerie might but there were no males anywhere near the rank of queen, then came the whole cultural thing. But she passed the matter of possibly finding a match for Queen Arana over to Princess Lyie of the leefen ( a member nation of the commonwealth).

She got down to what she knew, politics and trade.

"Greeting's we would be more that happy to open up trade and diplomatic links with your nation. I hope you understand that our population is no of the same type as yours, in fact we are of very different species. How ever we have little problem with this if you are like wise I see no reason why we can not set up diplomatic relations and more importantly trade links. We are a resource poor nation and if truth be told over populated, so both your mineral resources and fisheries would be welcome. In exchange we can provide you with consumer electronics, mass transit systems (urban, local and long range high speed rail), rail freight systems, finical services and perhaps of the most interest cheap naval vessels to police your shores.

The Nat class corvette has many variants, in truth I could not tell you how many. But they include medical corvettes that can work as a small floating hospital, we use them to service our more isolated islands. Life boat's that we use to save large freight and holiday ships' crew and passengers when they get into trouble.

How ever to the point, we are open to trade and normalization of relations.

"Greetings from Inleef, the royal commonwealth

We may have possible match for your queen, though he is currently unaware of his title. He is of Spanish blood and we have confirmed he is of noble blood. He has the best claim on the human kingdom in K IX. Though K IX is still not under our control it appears we will acquire the territory due to there being little choice in the matter for us or them.

If he is accepted by his people and they join the commonwealth he will have a council seat, but you must know that the lucan council though powerful in theory is fairly impotent in fact. His kingdom will need a lot of work but if they become part of the commonwealth they will likely recover quickly. From what I can tell from what I know of him he is a honest, hard working patriot and I believe dusky muscular males go down well with human females.

With Luck I will meet him soon as we have a plan to stabilize the failed nation that requires the old monarchs to take up their roles. It might not look like a good deal, but if things work out right, he may become the father to his reformed nation with a loving queen by his side.

You can see how this might work out well for both parties, from 'sources' I believe he is more than capable of producing the required to continue the line.

"Well yes it is possible, but he is still unaware of his status as are his people and we will need him back. But we know were he is.

Do you have any airports that can take an Ensemble(1) aircraft? We can fly him to an air base and clean him up on route but expect him to be very confused. We will start work on the tail plane so it carries his coat of arms, but if possible can we keep things quiet? The K IX situation is sensitive and we don't want people to know what we are planning to reform the place.

Ruben was working on repairing a bridge and working up a sweat, when one of the lupine (wolf like) commonwealth warriors that were working with them shouted "Oi Ruben, there's a viking waiting for you."
Ruben looked utterly confused as he walked towards the aircraft.

After the launch of the sotol craft he noticed two well dressed leefen's (black anthropomorphic pumas(2)) one gave the laborer a sheet of paper, he looked at it.

"What does this mean?" he asked confused.
"Well your majesty, you have the best claim on the human kingdom here." one said.
"Your sh..." He checked the papers that carried his family tree, they were right.
"We believe there is a queen who might want to meet you, don't worry she is like you."
"But..but..."
The rest of the trip to the air base built into the south side of the lecken range of mountains went very quietly, Ruben was still trying to get his head round what was going on..him a king?!?!?
On landing he was given the full VIP treatment, his shaggy locks were trimmed but still left long, he was given a proper shave, though his goaty beard was trimmed only. He was measured for the approaprate clothing before he took a well needed bath, he was told to take his time as until the other side could confirm they had the means to land a Ensemble there was no hurry.

Ruban lay in the large bath relaxing but was joined by two others, both friends, his twenty four years did not make them old friends, he was too young to have old friends.
"Hey there your majesty! " one shouted before jumping in.
"Who would ever have thought you would be that!" the other said before lowering himself in.
"Guys.. What in gods name is going on?" Ruben asked.
"Well you know at uni before everything went wrong you said we needed more philosophers?"

Ruban was a very intelligent person and had before things had gone wrong in K IX been a brilliant student. When things had gone wrong he had worked like the common people to try and hold things together, he had discovered he had no taste for war. He was a pacifist now unlike his friends.

Ruban stood up, he was six foot four and very well built, taller and stronger than his guards.

Ruban was confused, he knew his family had a secret, but this, he had blue blood. How did that work? He had studied his family tree, he was of royal blood of a nation he knew nothing of. Somewhere along the way the lord of what was now K IX had declared himself king, and his supposed home nation had not bothered to interfere. He couldn't help but see he was the king of the humans at least.

He was tapped on the shoulder by a Leefen (black anthropomorphic puma) she smiled and said "You are confused?"
"And some" he replied.
"Well we will send your details to you possible queen." the leefen replied in her almost French accent, though she wore sari like clothing,
"I don't know her, I might not like her and she might hate me." He ranted.

In Feninia the commonwealth's people had landed.

Ruban looked nervious in his new clothes, he had, had the tailor loosen his trousers, but they were still too tight for his liking. He was waring white trousers, a white shirt (that was too restrictive for his liking) and a blue jacket with a star over his left brest.

On route he had knighted his friends as they were having far to much fun at his expense, they were dressed the same way. All three carried a single foil as a side arm, though none of them knew how to use one.

They were not alone.

Princess Lyie of the Leefens was leading the group, she was monarch of part of the commonwealth and experienced in royal matters. The the party was obviously foreign, Lyie wore sarti like clothing with a top underneath as she did not know what the was decent clothing here, back home she would have left her left brest bare. Emissary Yeu was from the foreign office and dressed in a long dress with a suit jacket over it.

The commonwealth had left security to the Feniniaers they liked to show trust, but all carried ceremonial weapons, including Lyies two guard how had bows. The thing was other than than Ruban's people they knew how to use them.

Lyie stepped forwards, to her a Queen was her equal as her homeland did not use the title due to respect of a lost queen, the founder of their nation.

She smiled "Greetings".

There was another reason why the commonwealths party was obviously foreign, they were not of kinds known here. Lyie and her people were black, anthropomorphic pumers. Yeu's people were tall odd looking things, they were Teerie an oddity to the commonwealth. They were tall anthropomorphic skunk like creatures that were green where they should have been black and far taller, skinnier, well they were arboreal in nature now.

Arana was dressed in her celebrial dress which was long and white with golden sweeping sleeves. She waited patiently with Audrina (her lady in waiting) to her left who was young and so spirited.

Princess Lyie and the party from the commonwealth entered Arana presence, Lyie smiled. Though only a princess, in title, she was the elder monarch here and knew it. Both the King and Queen were young and inexperienced she however was some what longer in the tooth and in fact a Queen though her people did not use the title as they only had one queen. Their only Queen was the warrior queen that had lead them from slavery and who's descendants had never thought to even pretend were her equal.

“Greetings your majesty” Lyie said with a nod.
“This is Emissary Yeu from our government's foreign office she will probably wish to speak with your Orlas as she is interested in matters below your station. Things as trade and such. I am Princess Lyie the first of inleef” she continued and smiled.
“There is a game back home, one of these three in a king, a queen should be able to tell. But this is only a game, do not take it in any other way.” Lyie continued, indicating the three humans, her tail flicked in an entertained manner.

In truth Lyie was giving a get out to Queen Arana.

She herself had been lined up by her mother with many possible kings, princes and nobles, she could always spot them, but she always got it wrong on purpose. It was very clear who the king was, he was the one blushing or the old ugly one. In this case only one was blushing and none were old or ugly.

Lyie noticed Ruban's immediate interest, he had been quiet on the way here, but now..well there was something.

Lyie's only fears were technical issues back home, if Arana turned out being a weak, spoiled queen well that and someone demanding a duel with Ruban's immediate group. She knew none of them had a clue how to use a sword, Ruban least of all. She had taught him a few moves on the way, but he had no skill with the weapon, he was a person who fought with his mind, not his body.

She sighed, he would not have an easy time. Back home the humans needed someone like him, a thinker not a fighter, the humans had no natural allies. If he could court a foreign queen he might have a chance to save his people and go down in history as the savour of his people. The Lucan council would back him but there was only so much they could do and the people commonwealth didn't like sending troops anywhere let alone to aid a nation they had no obligation to.

Oddly when it came to sea and air power they were far more willing.

More to the point she was hoping the pair actually liked each other and it would be a marriage for love, not for alliance. Yeu and her people could manage what was good for both of the peoples, this just gave the commonwealth a toe in he door, if it didn't work out she would have the deals in place.

Arana spotted Ruben, he looked strong in mind and body, she was interested, his skin was tanned with the natural light, she was not permitted out for scares that she would be attacked by the rebels who ventured into Feninia grounds regularly now it seemed.

Lyie smiled, she could see that Atana had spotted Ruben, but something didn't chime right with the black puma. She had from birth been taught to defend herself. If you couldn't you would be taken advantage of this seemed to be the case.

She would leave it to Emissary Yeu to find the real power here things did not smell right to either of them. With a young queen, in the past that meant a more powerful forces were at work, she knew them, but she also knew Ruben was not trained in royal matters. As the Lucan councils royal emissary she had to make sure he didn't cause a war, trade and other things were left to Yeu.

Yeu smiled "Greetings" suspecting some one was trying to control the crown.

The group entered a wooden paneled room with a number of paintings on the wall, to a trained eye they were originals. They were all of ships, some very old, to the observant the small title was the same collection of symbols that was on the front of this ship. There was a table in the middle of the room with odd looking chairs about it that had only had one side supporting their back. On the table there were a two a couple of jugs of fruit juice and a couple of bowls of fruit.

"Please take a seat and help your self." Weerie said sitting down the design of the seats became apparent as it let her sit sliding her tail in side ways.

La did likewise. She was a little confused, she had never heard of humans eyes changing colour, then again she had never met one in the flesh before. She picked up an apple and bit into it.

Sol had managed to clever Weerie away away from the babies with a little effort, it couldn't have been more apparent that she loved kids, but Sol had pointed out that the family probably would want to settle in. There was a large screen on one of the walls, on the coffee table a remote, wireless keyboard and a wireless com. Sol had said that should either of them wish to they could call home from there, via the encrypted military systems. She had been at pains to point out that the com could be adapted to use what ever key and cryptographic system their people used quite easily. It was a modern com, far smaller than the bricks the foreign office provided to their staff and had a very simple touch screen interface which had been translated (badly) into the empires language*.

There was a knock at the door Carlos answered it, there were three teerie two of which were carrying a cot for the babies and another that handed him a note. The wax seal was a nice touch as it carried the ships coat of arms.

It read:

I hope your accommodation is acceptable, we are a fighting ship but we do our best to accommodate such important guest as your self in as much comfort as we can. Should you wish anything, and I mean anything, we will endeavour to provide it. Valentina was ushered to her place at the foot of the table as sol sat at the top, Carlos was sat to her left.

The others sat after they did, they were not all female but Carlos was in a minority. Sol smiled and poured a glass of wine, then poured it into a plant pot and smiled "For the ancestors"

The New Brittonian government welcomes new nations into the world. Being a non-human nation, we understand that there are many nations who are opposed to your basic existence. The Commonwealth of New Brittonia wishes to extend a hand to you.

The New Brittonian government wishes to open up the diplomatic channels and have meetings between officials of our two nations. Some thought had been put into who to send, they had settled on Cilinie and Tea Dalendo kn as neither of them were of especially large dimensions and in Dalendo's case were of a very common race (he is a vulpine anthro). In Cilinie case it was because she was quite an attractive leefen (if Black Puma anthros are your bag) and like all of her kind very polite (the truth of the matter is there language is so radically different from English they have trouble being anything but). They both had enough common sense to hit the panic button should things go wrong, the reason the commonwealth tended to send ships was that it gave them an easy escape route should things go wrong. If things when wrong and the diplomats had to be retrieved from the mainland...well you can see the obvious problems.

Now it gives, outlet and a chance for people to let their hair down. The ground fill, the pubs fill and people have friends round for the match. Well that and the night after a match is always fun, animosities end at the full time whistle. It also trivialises what were once serious animosities between our peoples, what would have once ended in a fight just turns into a bit of banter between friends.

Weerie Glared at Sol, there was a reason why she was a diplomat and Sol wasn't, then said “Oh very few people watch rugby alone, it gives a safe outlet for the old tribalism of the peoples of the commonwealth. I my self am only a generation removed from being a member of a wandering desert tribe of nomads. Some of my people still cling to the life style, I have no idea why they would want to, but, well if it suites them who am I to judge?

It is worth noting that the peoples of the commonwealth are willing to share a government but not a single rugby team. In the past when the nations were not at war, so not that frequently until the last 75 odd years, if I recall our history. We played each other it gave an outlet.

Now it gives, outlet and a chance for people to let their hair down. The ground fill, the pubs fill and people have friends round for the match. Well that and the night after a match is always fun, animosities end at the full time whistle. It also trivialises what were once serious animosities between our peoples, what would have once ended in a fight just turns into a bit of banter between friends.

TV just makes it easier for people to get together to shout and scream at the game that may be hundreds of miles away.”

Weerie quickly replied, relieved “I didn't know they played baseball?”

Weerie smiled “Yip, we might have voted to unify but there is no way we will ever surrender our separate leagues.

Anyway It might be an idea to see if we can talk to the leefen baseball bods to see if perhaps we can organise an international match with you guys sometime?

Sol and Weerie were sat on one of the turrets of the cruiser looking out at the moon that lay low on the horizon. It was a clear and quiet night, if a little cold.

Sols large bushy tail twitched and she turned to Weerie “Your not going home are you?” she asked, resigned. Unlike most of the rest of the crew she knew vulpines and she knew the look that had come over weerie.

Weerie sighed “I don't have long, I can feel it.”

“You are not afraid? Of well you know?”

Weerie looked at Sol and sighed “I would be lieing if I said I wasn't but I can feel the dawn calling me. It's siren call that I can't resit, but I have time to finish my last mission before I walk.”

“At least your honest” Sol said quietly she didn't know what to say now. The teerie did not have the same knowledge of when they would die as the vulpines did, the teuie would go to a place that had meaning for them to die and drewns went to new places. In the drewns case it meant there people explored in there dieing days. Exploration was always a dangerous thing to do, so it made sense that the old did it as they had less life to lose.

“Do you think Carlos's people will leave me where I fell? Allow my family to build a cairn over me in their land?” Weerie asked quietly.

Sol shrugged “I don't know, perhaps. He will know you are not long for this place and I suspect he will relies that if he lets you land you will take a walk. So we shall see.”

Weerie smiled “Do me on favour, if he does not find an island on the way home and let me go there. None of my line have ever laid in there home land and the only ones of my line that lye in drew were the first of my people to find it.”

Sol smiled “Consider it done but I get the feeling Carlos's people will respect your tradition who knows he might lay a stone on your cairn. Why do your people seek out foreign lands to...well.”

“Why do your people place your dead in ican trees? My people know death is something you do alone and you wait for the god to touch you with warmth for the last time before you rest for a little while. The last sights we see should be something no drewn has seen before so we take that with us for our next life so we can learn from it.” Weerie replied.

Sol was far out of her depth now she was no shaman, the closest the teerie had to clergy. She was joined by the ships shaman Ie she too had noticed weerie. It must be noted that amongst many religions of the commonwealth abrahamic ones were next to unknown and all of the native religions respected each other.

Ie, who was short by teerie standards, being barely six foot sat on the other side of weerie she asked “I there anything you wish me to do?”

The stench was unbelievable it was eye watering and vomit inducing to a humans weak sense of smell (You know skunks can make a stink, this is a six foot six highly evolved one.. think skunk stench plus) . La was immune to her own spray but David was anything but, his eyes watered and he started retching it was likely to be the most foul smell to ever enter his nasal passages.

The ships ventilation system kicked in, neither David or Carlos had noticed that the ship had a somewhat extensive system to this end. When you had a ship full of skunks all packing this kind of stench it made sense to have a way to get it out of the ship.

The sprinklers came on, not containing only water but an oil that was the only known thing that could remove the stench. But the damage was already done to David as he had been on the receiving end of a full blast. It was not fatal but it was utterly incapacitating, and perhaps a useful non fatal weapon should the empire look into it.

La smiled “You give?” as she pushed the retching David over with her foot. She looked kinda good wet, well if David could we anything threw his streaming eyes.

her second mistake she would find out later was she may have blinded him and make so he can't smell for a hour,but she forgot he would have very good hearing which he could fall back on

"Will he be OK?" she asked.
"Lets see you sprayed him and screech at him? We have no idea of his biology but, I know human biology." Before placing a pill in Davids mouth that he had to swallow "He will hear soon." She smiled La seemed more than normally concerned.

La sat there David's hearing kicking again.

"I'm so sorry I've ****** up, I've ****** up" she kept saying.

Ie truned up with an odd smelling tea, like most Teerie medics/shamans she was not scared of using old herbal remedies or a stranger to them." It should have kicked in now, David drink this, but before you do change. It will give you back your sense of smell and eye sight. Though you will need this" she she said handing David a bucket.

The tea would clear his system, there would be no vomiting, unless he was stupid enough to swallow what cleared from his head. His sinuses would be cleared of all the crap that had built up there over the years, he was likely to probably have a better sense of smell and hearing after this, like he was ten years younger. The pill was a temporary fix, his eyesight would come back in the next few minutes anyway.

La looked at him "You put your teeth around my neck, I was with in my rights, no teeth! As for giving, we have no word for that, in fact. We never give our surrender unless we can't physically do not so. Ask the Saeie or anyone that fought in the rebel forces."

La looked pitiful. She had really ****** up.

OOC: In fact the teerie does not have the concept of surrender, the people are incapable of doing so then again their homeland was not a place where having the concept helped.

David said Nothing to La as he dressed and pulled out his gun from his thigh holster to check it seeing it had gotten wet

David stood up and handed back the flask to Ie while looking down at her

"there no point for her to talk to me any more she be better off ,so when dawn here i be going,for now i'll go to the room set aside for me,if you happen to know the room could you show me it"

She could have lead onto the deck, she could have told him that teerie were a persecuted people, she could have told him what had happened to La's family. She didn't she lead him to his room as she reckoned he would feel some thing and listen in the end.

La was sat on her bed, well the floor of her cabin as unlike the guest quarters her cabin was layed out in the traditional teerie way. The whole floor of her cabin was thickly padded except from a small area around the door. Around the edge of the room there was a low shelve, the room was dimly lit with a low green silk canopy over most of the cabin.

La was wrapped in a duvet drinking inteerie whisky from the bottle, and there was an empty bottle lying net to her. Teerie rarely got very drunk. This was not to say they didn't drink, in fact they drunk a lot, but they had a massive natural tolerance to alcohol.

But La had drunk enough alcohol to kill almost any other race, so she had managed it. She wasn't at the falling down stage, but was certainly drunk.

She heard the knock and shouted "Come in, It's open!" slightly slurring.

David enters the room while looking around

"nice room" He say as closed the door behind him before walking over to her

"La i'am sorry for that mess in thr gym" David say to once he sat down next
