Climate and Environment
Novistrana is a largely forested, and mountainous nation, experiencing snow and blizzards in the winter and warm fronts and sunshine during the summer. The taiga covers over half the land in the country, along with mountain ranges, grasslands, and vast tundra. Most of the forest covers the northern half of the country, generally where the mountains are. The longest river is the Berezina River, flowing from its source in the lower Novistranian SSR to the North Karelia sea. However, these pristine environments are falling prey to the state logging, oil, and mining companies.
Economy
The Novistranian economy is a state-run command economy, where the government economic branch (Societ Economic Ministry) in Berezina runs everything, from working hours and prices to supervision of the building of new factories and farms. The economy focuses on two main things: agriculture and industry. Many hundreds of thousands of acres are set aside for collective farms and they grow wheat, barley, and vegetables. Then comes industry, producing everything from cars and furniture to computers and weapons. The country makes most of its profits selling to foreign countries.
Government
The Novistranian government is headquartered in Berezina. The President makes all commands to all branches, which are in turn, each supervised by a proletariat secretary. Government branches include the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Health and Education, the Ministry of Law Enforcement, and even more.
Law and Order
The Novistranian government has strict law enforcement policies and controls its people by the Secret Police, the KGB, NKVD, and the city militsiyas. Freedom of speech and press are limited, and offenders are either taken to their local jail or forced to work in a prison camp, depending on the seriousness of the offense. Serious crimes such as auto theft and armed robbery are treated with severe punishment. Internal conflicts are handled by the NKVD and MVD.
Military
The SRN Armed Forces are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense. The military consists of 3 main branches:
- The Soviet Red Army (infantry, armor, helicopters)
- The Soviet Air Force (jet fighters, bombers, reconaissance jets)
- The Soviet Navy(cruisers, destroyers, submarines, aircraft carriers)
The Army and MVD have at several divisions of Spetsnaz under their command, along with the GRU military intel service. The Navy has command over Naval Infantry forces.
