340 miles from the Battlehawk southern coast

On the bridge of BCN Republic, a young Captain named Crubbs was peering through a set of Spy-Eye binoculars towards a distant shape on the seas. "Confirmed?" he asked of a petty officer looking at a computer terminal.

"Aye Captain. We've confirmed it as a merchant ship. It's in the fifty thousand ton classification range. Sir, it's probably a RO/RO." (Roll On / Roll Off ships are used to ferry cars commercially between nations. They're cargo ships, basicly.)

"Military or civilian?"

"Ah, looks to be flagged as civilian sir."

Captain Crubbs rubbed a tentacle against his chin thoughtfully. "How much would you say that thing is worth?"

"Sir, the Cougar Ace had a hundred and twenty million dollars in cars onboard. This one is a little smaller. It could well be worth over a hundred million in cargo alone."

"Sound to battle stations. Move to intercept, call off the destroyer escorts. This one is for the Republic."

5 miles from Battlehawk civilian cargo ship

The vast BCN Republic was steaming along at a steady 30 knots, closing with the civilian ship from port and to the rear. The three escorting destroyers broke away, moving south. At just under five miles, the huge 23" guns on the front of Republic spoke. Three barrels lit up, launching multi-ton shells whistling through the sky.

Twenty seconds later, three immense columns of foaming white water errupted off the bow of the Battlehawk civilian cargo ship, about 400 meters distant from the ship in warning.

The radios crackled,
"This is Blubland Colonial Navy ship Republic hailing civilian cargo ship. We demand an immediate stoppage of your vessel. Your ship has been claimed in the name of the Colonial Navy. Any resistance will lead to your sinking and the deaths of your crew."

"Oh SHIT!" Civilian Captain Thomas Lennox swore as the ship that approched open fire and the comm lines spoke up
"This is Blubland Colonial Navy ship Republic hailing civilian cargo ship. We demand an immediate stoppage of your vessel. Your ship has been claimed in the name of the Colonial Navy. Any resistance will lead to your sinking and the deaths of your crew."
"Send a message to navel command immediatly!" Tom ordered before turning to the comm officer and nodded
"Blublandial Ship, we are a ship of the Battlehawk Merchent Navy firing on us is an act of war, please standdown immediatly" Thomas said

<Navel Command>

"Admiral SIR" A young officer shouted up from the computer banks
"Yes Lt?"
"The BMV Halton has reported that she is under fire by a Blubland Colonial Navy ship!"
"Oh shit, get me the president ASAP"

BCN Republic

Captain Crubbs sniffed as the message came in, "Of course it's an act of war. Send them a reply."

The radio came alive again,

We will repeat our demands once more. Shut down your engines and prepare to be boarded. We will let your crew go free once we have what we want. This is your final warning. Our next salvo is aimed directly at your waterline.

Republic's big guns were already adjusting to focus on the merchant vessel, ready to make good on the threat. In preperation for boarding, Colonial Marines were making ready a half dozen RiBs near the aft helicopter pad of the battleship.

"Ok, I'll put the forces on alert, send the Excelsior to teh area"

<RBS Excelsior>

"Captain Munro, we've just received and emergency mission redirect!" The ships helm officer reported
"Do it, let me read it"

"Oh shit" HE exclaimd "Prepare a squadron of Talons for takeoff, have squadron 2 on hot standby, RED ALERT"

Fifteen minutes later

Republic sat two kilometers off the port side of Halton, its frontal guns aimed at the merchant ship as small rigid inflatable boats darted across the water towards the merchant ship.

Onboard the RiBs were Colonial Marines wearing orange life perserver vests and holding automatic weapons. Upon arrival, they used grappling lines to quickly rig up a boarding ladder.

The first Colonial Marine to step onto Halton was wearing sergeant's insignia and the nametag 'Tribbs'. Sergeant Tribbs looked around the deck of the merchant ship for anyone attempting an ambush, then waved a tentacle to the fireteam waiting below. "Go! Go! Go!" With that signal, they began boarding while Tribbs made his way towards the bridge of Halton to talk to the crew.

HTDNS Justice

The HTDNS Justice was a new Type-08 class Guided Missile cruiser. It was the first of its kind and was currently undergoing shakedown cruises. The ship was painted a dull gray. It stood at 183 metres in length and moved with the power of four gas turbines powering two shafts. The large ship was streamlined with sharp angles to minimize its radar profile. The ship had little crew compared to the past cruisers built by HuTianDi, an increase in automation allowed it to carry fewer crew than the rest. However, this in no way impeded on its deadly armament or purpose.

Captain Ronald Richardson, an immigrant from England, commanded the ship whose crew was of mostly Chinese decent. He looked out across the ocean from his vantage point on the bridge. An ensign tapped him on the shoulder and whispered in his ear.

"Relay the message to Naval command, request the third fleet, they should be nearby, we are heading into the area." Said the captain. The Ensign nodded and ran off to do as he was told. "All hands, general quarters." The executive officer repeated the order to general quarters and soon klaxons started blaring.

The ship was immediately thrust into action. All dropped what they were doing to report to their desegnated stations. People could be seen running on either side of the deck. The chaos was strangely organized as all ran int he same direction on either side of the ship. Soon all was ready.

"note in the Log that The HTDNS Justice will commence intervention at ." Said the captain again.
"Aye." came the reply.
"Plot a course to the area but maintain distance. This increase in big gun ships is an unavoidable development, but missiles can keep the stand off range to a good distance." The captain turned to another deck officer. "Open comms to the BCN Republic"

Message to the [I]republic:
your actions are in violation of international law. Stand down or risk confrontation with the dominion of Hu Tian Di.

Onboard Halton

Sergeant Tribbs opened the bridge latch and entered. The Blubs were.. a suprising species. (You can click the comic link in my sig for pictures of Blubs) Small, green, looking like monsters and yet .. adorable. This Blub wore an armored jacket, helmet and a life preserver. His expression was calm as he looked to Lennox, "Are you the captain of this ship?"

"I am Sergeant Tribbs of the Blubland Colonial Marines, sir. I'm here to confiscate your ship and its cargo. I understand you are not happy about this, but we are not here to hurt you or your crew. We ask that you order your crew to stand down and not resist us, sir. We wouldn't want to hurt anyone."

Behind him, fireteams of Colonial Marines were securing the deck and beginning to take positions around the deck of Halton.

Republic

A radio officer handed Captain Crubbs a note. Crubbs examined it and then nodded, "Give me a comm set," and was handed a radio. A small radio antenna array on the mast turned towards the distant contact of Justice, sending a directional message to them.

Foreign warship, this is BCN Republic. Our actions are not your concern and you are advised to maintain your distance for your own saftey. Be warned there are civilians in proximity of our position and we are in control of a civilian merchant ship. Any action attempting to intervene or rescue could result in serious non-military casulties.

"Captain, we recieved this from the Battlehawks during boarding." Another note was handed over to Crubb. The Captain frowned at the quick response and typed up his own message.

Admiral Li [yes the most common chinese last name =)] sat at the bridge of the Eternal Dragon The head of the third fleet. It was a Feng Huang Class Carrier, one of the many of her kind in the world. There were three in this fleet, a total of 295 aircraft with those currently on board. These ships moved with a steady clip to the area of concern, justified with an executive order from the Chief of Defence Staff with premission from the Prime Minister. Along with the numerous carriers there were also support ships that made this group a fleet. There were four Guided missile cruisers, the center of non-aircraft long range capabilities along with providing the main air defence of the fleet. These ships were screened by ten destroyers, fifteen frigates and ten submarines, the standard make up of a hu Tian Di Fleet. There were no heavy guns among the fleet, the largest being 155 mm cannons on the destroyers and cruisers.

The admiral was proceeding to the area, it was an unprecedented move on the part of Hu Tian Di, which had done little in the world for many years. Still it was ordered and it would be done. He looked out on the deck of the aircraft carrier. Several aircraft would be taking off, a flight of six multi-role fighters and several helicopters were being dispatched as a first response force for this crisis at hand. Perhaps they could do something, more likely they couldn't.

Another message from the Justice went out as it approached the belligerent ships
We repeat, you are in violation of International law. You are detaining a ship not of your country, a hostile act, one perceived as a dangerous one in the eyes of the government of Hu Tian Di, and also one that must be delt with appropriately. Once again we must repeat, leave the ship with its cargo and proceed back to the port of your origin, if not we will be forced to intervene in this affair of yours.

To help offload the Battlehawk crew of the cargo ship, a SH-20B Seacat (http://www.forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10828450&postcount=260) lifted off from the rear flight deck of the battleship. It traveled the two kilometers between Republic and Halton and began to set down on the deck of the merchant ship.

Sergeant Tribbs gestured towards the deck with his carbine rifle, still looking at Lennox, "Sir, you need to order your crew to the deck so that we can evacuate you."

Republic

The big battleship was turning slightly north, its forward 23" guns turning east in the general direction of Justice which was still out of sight. Captain Crubbs moved from the exposed bridge into the more well-protected CIC.

A weapons officer was busy checking over the VLS cells housed in three locations on Republic. "AARAM defenses ready, SLAM cruise missiles ready."

Another voice spoke up, "CIWS online and calibrated."

Captain Crubbs picked up a radio,

Tribbs grabbed Lennox and shoved him towards the door, then marched him down the stairs to the deck. Colonial Marines moved through the hatches in teams, working their way down through the decks until they found the Spec Ops Marines.

The first encounter occured in a stairwell. Automatic weapons rattled on both sides as a fierce gunbattle errupted in the heart of the ship. Several Colonial Marines were hit, some wounded but others shaken as their armor stopped the shots.

Sergeant Tribbs stood next to Lennox on deck, watching as two Colonial Marines were carried out of the ship, wounded badly. He gestured to a SH-20 landing, "Get on the helicopter, sir." Nudging Lennox towards the chopper with the tip of his rifle.

the ship was now at top state and all that were in it prepared for a possible battle. However, the ship was now moving parallel to the enemy ships, out of gun rage but within the sphere of destruction that it's missiles could unleash.

The message from the belligerent side was received. It was clear that no amount of asking would get them to back down. As such, harsher methods would have to be used.

Final message to the Republic
you have been warned. We are now executing our legal precedent to prevent this act of piracy on the high seas. According to UNCLOS and the definition of piracy thereof we now commence anti-piracy operations in aid of The Battlehawk. Causus Belli is breach of jus cogens and action according to extra territorium jus dicenti impune non paretur against hostis humani generis. According to international law, we are permited to use whatever force necessary while remaining in international waters. Be warned.

The comm officer spoke up. "We are patching the feed from Satellite A45." A screen to the side now showed the feed. Resolution was fixed at 0.15 m.

"Area is clear of civilians. aircraft are five minutes away, helicopters twenty"
"Commence intervention, Weapons free" Said the captain With that four missiles ripple fired from the ship towards the enemy battleship. They were were sea skimming missiles with a very small radar return. It would confound all but the most sensetive of radar systems until a time at which the missile was too close for intercept. It had never been used on a real target before... but it worked well in tests. Now the missiles few away and the Justice readied for return missiles.

I don't care either way, its my first post in several months so I don't really care what happens.... I lean towards bulb though, no matter a stance on piracy, destruction of non-government property is a no unless you have a justifiable reason to destroy it "it was taken by pirates" is not a good reason. there is not one instance of that happening in recent history. All attempts to communicate with pirates have been to negotiate the return of a ship

"Who knows how to fly this thing?" Lennox asked as the marines climbed aboard still keeping their weapons trained on the enemy.
"I've got the basics Skipper" One of the Cargo operators reported.
"Ok, you'll be my co-pilot then" Lennox said climbing into the pilots seat.
As Lennox got into the seat James got a small device out of his pocket and threw it to Sergeant Tribbs
"I'd advise you to get off this ship before that timer reachs zero" He commented as the helicoptor powered up.
"We're ready back her Cap!" james called.
Lennox nodded and gently lifted the chopper of the deck. Once clear of the superstructure Lennox adjusted the controls and the chopper soared away towards the Excelsior. The flights of Talons returned to the ship as the chopper continued away from the Halton.
"What do you think they'll do?" James asked Lennox.
"I don't know, depends if they are intending to invade or if they're just sabre rattling and piracy" Lennox replied "Either way, I hope the Excelsior heads back to the Battlehawk"

Tribbs caught the device in one tentacle and examined it. He frowned and tossed it over the side of the ship. Then he turned to his troops and waved them towards the rope ladders, "Everyone off the ship!"

Wounded were lowered down on stretchers to waiting RiBs while Colonial Marines got off the ship. Tribbs made a final trip to the bridge of the ship, grabbing log books and maps before climbing down the ladder himself.

The RiBs skipped across the seas back towards Republic.

Republic

"Sir, the marines report that the merchantman may be rigged. They let the natives have the helicopter to get them offboard."

Captain Crubbs frowned heavily, "So we lose a helicopter and the cargo? I don't think so. WeapOp! Target that Seacat and bring it down now!"

"Aye sir!"

High up on the tower of Republic a RAM launcher came to life. It pivoted to point towards the retreating helicopter and then fired. With the SH20 still within line of sight to Republic the AAMRAM ignored its own tracking and instead followed a laser guidance in on the vulnerable sea transport helicopter offered by the ship's tracking system.

The Colonial Marines turned their heads to watch the missile streak across the sky towards the stolen helicopter, its 60lb warhead set for a proximity explosion approximately 5 meters from the aircraft.

Halton

Below decks of the Halton, deep in the hold a system of explosives were counting down towards detonation, the detonation would systemeticly scuttle the ship.

Seacat

"Oh shit" James exclaimed "Skipper!, we've got a problem"
"I know missle" Lennox replied "It's on the sensors"
"It's going to get us" James repoted looking out of the door
"We're close enough to the ship, everyone out!" Lennoz shouted as he stayed at the controls. The rest of the crew jumped out of the hatch into the sea. Lennox stayed at teh controls until the warhead detonated and was killed in the explosion. He'd managed to get the seacat away from the crew who'd jumped, he'd payed for it with his life.

RBS Excelsior

"The Chopper is down Captain!" Tactical officer James Thompson reported "Some of our people bailed out"
"She was shot down?" Alex asked.

Republic

The Marines were onboard again and the RiBs being lifted back onto the rear deck with winches and a small crane designed for such things. Wounded were carried to the infirmary while Republic began to pick up more speed. At four kilometers from Halton it turned south.

In the CIC, a technician spoke up, "We're picking up faint long range airborne contacts. Probably fighters."

"Keep me informed."

"Aye sir."

Another technician shouted, "Vampires! Bearing two two six, range five kilometers!" Five kilometers was very close range, and the ship's defenses had only seconds to act.

The CIWS positions onboard Republic turned to track the inbounds, and at 4 kilometers opened fire. They sprayed the path of the missiles with ammunition. A fireball errupted at three kilometers and another at one kilometer. Then two of the missiles struck Republic.

The first impacted along the starboard armor belt near sea level. The armor buckled, but managed to hold back the worst of the damage. This massive battleship was very well armored and a strike which would have broken the back of smaller ships was defeated for the most part.

The second missile hit higher near the base of the ship's tower. The tower wasn't as well armored, and a large hole was left, exposing one of the inner stairwells and three seperate decks of the tower. Black smoke poured from the wound as a fire caught.

The big 23" guns turned towards Halton and at a point blank range of four and a half kilometers, they opened fire. Six massive, 3 ton shells were launched towards the merchant ship in retribution.

"Return fire on those foreigners."

"Aye sir."

The 23" main guns were being reloaded. From the forward VLS cell a volley of six sea-attack cruise missiles were launched. They shot straight up into the sky, climbing swiftly before tipping over and moving north towards Justice. These BCM cruise missiles carried one ton warheads, and came in at the enemy in a ballistic arc rather than sea-skimming. It would take up to eighty seconds for them to travel the distance between the two warships which could not yet see each other.

[hmm a ballistic angle.... still a bit too far for guns at around 250km... bit far for most missiles too... but this is NS (my missiles are similar to this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-700_Granit))]
Captain Richardson looked out at the feed from the satellite overhead. It would be out of range soon, but the estimated gap would only be a few minutes as another satellite moved into position. Still the time remaining would be able to catch the explosion of the missiles on camera.

The missiles, moving at mach 3, quickly moved in. They were engaged at various distances, but two hit. Two almost simultanious fireballs erupted. one did some damage, but it was limited to non-strategic areas of the superstructure. The explosions were quickly complemented by two smaller balls of flame . They were obviously missiles.

"Captain, Missiles incoming, Smoke trail is all that is visible on radar, it is a ballistic angle, minute and half to impact" The Captain slammed his hand on his chair.
"Ready all RAM [rolling airframe missiles] units and CWIS cannons." He said this knowing full well the limited impact they would have on a ballistic trajectory. "Prepare six kinetic Energy interceptors [similar to the US SM-3] Obtain firing solutions and fire as soon as they are obtained!" barked out the captain.

the orders were followed. Soon six missiles launched up in return from the cruiser. The firing solution obtained would attempt to knock the missiles out at their highest point, the time at which the missiles are slowest.

Up the missiles went leaving trails of gray smoke [though its technically condensation but that's irrelevant since it increases radar return the same way]. Several seconds later, the missiles exploded overhead. 1..2..3...4...5. The sixth missile missed and a deadly explosive was now coming down from the sky. A Ton of death approached the ship, too fast for any of the other interceptor systems to lock on to.

[I]Boom

The explosive destroyed the entirety of the helicopter deck. What was once a flat surface was now several decks of nothing. sections of decks, desks, bulkheads, even people could be seen by any observer. There were also several fires caused by the paper on the ship which was incinerated. Within seconds those that lived were spraying sea water on the fire, closing off damaged pipes and doing general damage control work.

The bridge was rocked by the explosion, but that was it. Several antenna were lost int he explosion but nothing without redundancies.

"Damage report!" called out the captain.

[note: decks go 1. for the upperdeck and go higher the lower in the ship, superstructure decks go 1 then A2]
"Decks 2-A2 are damaged. Sections 4 and parts of five on decks A2 are destroyed. Helicopter destroyed, no breach of outer hull. twelve confirmed losses, speed dropped four knots to 18 knts. RAM units 1 and 2 inoperable, CWIS 1 operating at 75% efficiency. Main offensive weapons not impaired."

"How far away is the fleet, we will not be able to sustain a battle for very long."
"One hour sir."
"Withdraw! Let the fleet deal with this menace to the seas."

ooc: Oh. When I said a ballistic arc, I didn't mean they left the atmopshere or anything. Just an arcing attack like most cruise missiles rather than sea skimming. Blubland uses missiles similar to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyunmoo but upgraded for NS purposes. The Blubland version is about 4 meters longer, .3 meter wider, has a range of approximately 500km and a payload of 1.125 ton.

IC

On a remote video feed technicians watched the missiles as they took their first and final flights. The black and white imagry of first shaky clouds as the missiles powered themselves into the sky and then the horizon as they tipped over.

In five cases, smaller, dark objects (Or white.. depending on the paint color I suppose) with a semi-circle of bright flame behind them intercepted the cruise missiles. In the last case, the technicans watched the missile as it approached the sea below. A single white dot quickly grew into a ship, larger and larger until all that could be seen was a helicopter. Then static.

"Hit!" one technician shouted over the fire alarm still going off on Republic as flames and smoke poured out of the hole in the base of the tower.

Captain Crubbs nodded, "Dispatch that feed back to Blubland. Maybe Intelligence will be able to determine what kind of ship it is and its capabilities."

"Aye sir."

"Our own damage reports?"

"Sir, fire is being contained to levels one through four of the tower. We've pulled six dead and fifteen wounded out so far. The fire chief for that section thinks it'll be extinguished in about ten minutes."

Republic, slowly pick up speed and moving towards its maximum 31 knots as it continued south, trailing a mile of greasy black smoke behind.

Republic

Due to the world's curvature, contact was soon lost with the distant HuTianDi ship. Within twenty minutes the fires were out, the blackened tower of the battleship leaning slightly to one side due to structural damage.

"Captain, we're recieving a signal requesting our identity?"

"Ignore it."

"Aye sir."

Sustaining maximum speed for an hour was taking a toll on the battleship, and Captain Crubbs ordered the speed reduced to 20 knots. Republic slowed down, still traveling south as the three destroyers of the original escort force moved in closer and began to cover the warship.

It was discovered that the missile hit had knocked out much of Republic's long range communication relays. A RiB was sent to ferry a DVD-ROM with the data from the encounter over to the destroyer Perry. This information was zipped off to Blubland.

Ten hours later, Blubland TV

Cameras zoomed in on Prime Minister Bribbit as he sat behind the large desk in his office at Star City. The serious looking little Blub looked directly into the camera.

"Ladies and gentleblubs, my fellow citizens. I have grave news. Earlier this morning, BCN Republic interdicted a suspected nuclear weapons shipment bound for the nation of Battlehawk. The merchantman at first submitted to a search, but once our Marines boarded they were ambushed by a team of Battlehawk terrorists."

The PM looked at his notes and then stared into the camera lens, expression grim.

"Three Colonial Marines were killed in the ambush and the rest of the Marines were ordered to evacuate the ship for the saftey of Battlehawk civilians onboard. This merchantman then attempted to ram Republic and was sunk in self-defense.

"Moments later Republic was again attacked. This time by a guided missile cruiser of the nation of HuTianDi. Republic was struck by several anti-shipping missiles while attempting to rescue the crew of the Battlehawk weapon smuggling cargo ship. Republic returned fire and reportedly destroyed the HuTianDi cruiser. The Department of the Military has released the following footage."

The scene cut to a black and white image of the last ten seconds of the ASM striking Justice. The date/time information on the film was blacked out due to security reasons. The film shows the missile's point of view as Justice looms closer and closer, then static as it hits. Standard military type footage.

"As you can see, the enemy was struck and destroyed by our Navy's anti-ship missiles."

He leaned closer to the camera, expression intent.

"As of midnight tonight, Blubland officially declares war on both Battlehawk and HuTianDi. These unacceptable attacks cannot go unpunished and we call for the leadership of both nations to step down."

We have been unrighteously declared war on. The Nation of The Blub Colony has declared war on our nation after attacking a merchant ship without provocation. We do not want war, but we will defend the rights of other nations and we will protect our national sovereignty. To this end, an emergency session of parliament has yielded an almost universal consensus to declare war in return on this nation. Take note all those that oppose this great nation, we will defend our nation, we will answer any threat. while out forces will not make the first move, any attack by this threat will be dealt with quickly and harshly. Rest assured people, we will protect you and the honour of this great nation. Our navies stand ready to repel any incursion into our waters and we will be as a bastion of justice among the lawlessness of this attacking nation.

God save the King, and may our nation be long lasting

GeoSynch Orbit over Blubland
A set of wide lenses peered down at Blubland incuriously. The job of this defense satellite and the others like it was to monitor with its multitude of cameras the region around Blubland.

A flicker of light and then a spark of movement and white exhaust. Per its programming the camera zoomed in, tracking the cruise missile and alerting the nearest control post to the activity.

Azure Bay, North Coast

"Launch!" a raised voice announced to the others in the control post. A few seconds of silence while computers chewed on the trajectory and other data.

"They may be targetting Republic, trying to finish her off before she can get home," one analyst pointed out. The battleship was still a hundred miles from the Azure City harbor.

"The ballistics are wrong for that. This looks like a land attack missile of some kind."

So distracted by the massive effort to send an immense air fleet to the Ryou Islands, Blubland itself was caught by suprise. Anti-missile defenses spooled up from passive mode but it was too late. On one wall of the command post, a camera image displayed on one flatscreen TV. A camera mounted atop one of the military buildings at the harbor tracked a ball of light through the night sky.

Two smaller lights zoomed into the air, anti-missile missiles, following but failing to intercept the light before it fell into the city. The camera had no sound, so those in the bunker watched as a silent fireball rose over the city.

North of Azure Bay

The trajectory of the missile had been immedietly calculated and confirmed with source GPS via the satellite imagery. Elements of the Blubland Coast Guard were scrambling towards the source of the cruise missiles.

A Coast Guard E-3 Otter diverted from its regular patrol, moving over the area and confirming no surface contacts.

Marlin Class GMCIIIs (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13518861&postcount=40) sprinted at an astounding 45 knots towards the contact zone. From the rear decks of the ships came a pair of SH-20B Seacats. They proceeded ahead and dropped down closer to the ocean's surface. They lowered SONAR equipment into the water and began to ping furiously in search for the enemy submarine.

Azure Bay

It was quickly determined that a retaliation was required. The assumed source of the submarine attack was Battlehawk or their newest allies and the Colonial Navy would be tasked with the opening blows of the Battlehawk front in this war.

Already waiting near the coast were two fleets which turned north and proceeded into the deeper ocean. One from Azure City and the other from Westport. These two fleets would combine five hundred kilometers from the coast of Blubland into one taskforce.

600km South of Battlehawk

After the initial skirmish with the merchantman, the Colonial Navy had dispatched a SAG (Surface Action Group) towards Battlehawk's south coast. They were finally entering the same area where Republic had exchanged blows with HuTian's cruiser and about a hundred kilometers from where Halton sunk.

This SAG consisted of eight of Blubland's powerful cruisers escorted by a trio of submarine killing destroyers. The SAG known as Taffy Seven declared the area safe for the time being. Submarine hunting helicopters ranged for many miles in all directions, dipping SONAR and MAG arrays into the seas.

Once the area was declared safe Taffy Seven oriented itself north towards Battlehawk as the weather covers popped off of the cruise missile launchers on the decks of the Donaldson Class Guided Missile Cruisers (http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/541/ransdonaldsonwu6.png). These dangerous ships coordinated via GPS with satellites and then.. it began.

Onboard the Nemesis Class Cruiser (http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/4720/nemesisddcf5.png) Halo, two sailors stood on the deck looking out over the fleet. Arrayed within sight were the five Donaldsons lining up in a staggered formation. All at once, cruise missiles began to shriek out of the launchers on its deck and the rear VLS cells.

The sheer amount of firepower on display by those five ships was devestating. A curtain of white smoke broiled east with the wind as waves of cruise missiles disappeared into the sky.

One of the sailors whistled over the distant roar of missiles, "Geeze son. Hate to be on the recieving end of that."

The other sailor nodded, just watching.

Battlehawk Coastline

After eight minutes of flight the wave of cruise missiles would be reaching their terminal height. A total of 300 land attack cruise missiles were on a crash trajectory with Battlehawk ports. Each of the 300 cruise missiles carries a 1.5 ton warhead (Land attack version) and has an accuracy range of 2 meters.

Any military ship spotted sitting in the harbor were targetted, as well as marine barracks, ship repair yards, ship building yards, drydocks, fuel depots, fuel tankers and other targets of opportunity. The Colonial Navy intended to deliver a frightening rain of explosives upon Battlehawk's ports.

Taffy Seven

Taffy Seven's equipment had picked up the Rammsteinburg formation approaching Battlehawk. A satellite was being positioned to look towards said formation while the cruise missile launchers were reloaded with sea-attack cruise missiles. They had fired about half of their deck tubes, but if it came to an engagement they wanted all of their tubes loaded with sea attack cruises and torpedos.

A radio message was sent towards the Rammsteinburg ships,
Warning, warning, warning

You are entering a war zone. Change course immedietly or be declared a combatant.

As the strike wing circled waiting for permission to enter airspace, their air warning systems started to go haywire with alerts

"What the fuck" seemed to be the common term used by the pilots at that time, Col Watson immediately got on the radio

"Blackhawk this is Rechburg Strike Wing Commander, our sensors indicate you have approximately 300 vampires inbound, I repeat 300 vampires in bound"

Major Donaldson, the Colonels wingman

"Holy shit Bull, are we gonna have anywhere to land after that shit hits"

"Well Chucky, lets see how good those Blawkhawk air defences are, before we contemplate dog paddling".

The radio message sent by Colonel Watson to Blackhawk was also received back in the Defence headquarters of the Duchy of Rechburg.

Admiral Ney read the transcripts, looked at the real time satelite images and whispered to himself,
"holy mother of god; that is some serious shit"

He immediately placed a call to Duke Blaise
"Sire we have a problem".

"What is Jochiam?" asked the Duke

"That appeal from Blackhawk about a ship being attacked and possibly being in a war, just took a turn for the worse. I will patch the latest through to your comm suite sir".

The Duke rose from his desk and walked over to the large digital screen on the wall, he typed in his code and the information from satelites and radios was being relayed before him.
Moments later, there was a knock on the door and his national security Advisor Admiral Jochiam ney walked in.

The Duke turned and then made his way back to he desk, taking out a pipe, his fathers old pipe, he quietly began to pack it with raw Rechurg tobacco.

"Well Jochiam, it seems we have a duty to perform, a member of the alliance is being attacked massively and we must respond massively"

The Admiral stood watching thescreen as the blimps of the cruise missiles made their way incremently slowly towards Blackhawk, he turned and went over to the Dukes desk, taking out a pipe of his own he sat down opposite his Duke.

'As you know sir we have despatched the 3rd task force and some lesser units, are you now suggesting we up the anti?"

"Indeed Jochiam, if our alliance is ever to mean anything, we must respond in a manner we would expect others to respond were this us being attacked'

"Yes Sire", Admiral ney knew the signs, his Duke was pissed and that meant trouble for someone.

"Jochiam I want the submarines sent to the Blub colony, and get the battlefleets underway, Initially they are to make steam for Rammsteinburg.
I see the President general has sent some forces already, if he is contemplating sending others our fleets can join them, if not they will sail for Battlehawk"

"Well the battlefleets are already at sea sire, they were heading to that Saul situation but were not required. so they are a good way towards blackhawk already."

The Duke typed in some new code words and the wall panel changed scene, to that of the Rechburg battlefleets, on their way home from Saul.

The Duke reached for another button on the panel on his desk, his secretary came online.

"Mary, could you please raise the President-General of Rammsteiburg for me, patch him strait through when you have him."

After warning Blackhawk Colonel Watson decided that his group could pick off as many of the cruise missiles as possible,
"All right boys, we will engage those missiles closest to us, get in there and down as many as possible"

Fortunately Bull Watson thought to himself watching his low fuel caqpacity, we dont have to dogfight the bastards, just line em upo and shoot em like clay pidgeons.

Almost immediately the professionalism of his group became evident, the squadron commanders designating their flights to engage certain groups of missiles.

In a matter of minutes over 70 amraam missiles were in the air, later followed by Aim & and 9 missiles, the air below was full of explosions as one cruise missile after another was hit, a few fighters even managed cannon hits but they were far and between.
After the skirmish with the cruise missiles the 54 aircraft climbed back up for height,
Bull watson wondered if downed cruise missiles count in your tally to becoming an ace, he decided it didnt, they were just too easy.

The losses in cruise missiles from the over 400 anti air missiles was extremely heavy

(OCC Blub - up to you how many were downed)

ooc: Well, trying to hit them with a jet fighter or CIWS is pretty much impossible due to their steep angle of attack. They're coming in from a steep angle at over 1,000mph. Anti-air missiles would have more luck but anti-missile missiles would be best for this.

IC:

Battlehawk

There were explosions in the sky as anti-air missiles intercepted a number of the Colonial Navy cruise missiles. Many times the explosions resulted in sprays of fire and sparks, like fireworks falling out of the sky.

Due to momentum however, even those cruise missiles hit would probably cause damage as their pieces rained down on the ports and cities. (Part of the problem during the Gulf War was that even though the Patriots were hitting Scuds, often it was a body hit and the warhead survived to fall out of the sky and detonate)

The sky was now filled with debris, falling parts, fire and chaos. And among it all, the surviving 112 cruise missiles continued towards their targets in terminal mode.

At 1,000 feet off the ground, about half of the cruise missiles would automaticly detonate, spraying their targets (Soft targets like troop barracks, workshops, fuel depots, vehicle depots, anti-air positions, etc) with submunitions. Each cruise missile carried 130 submunition which would cover an area of approximately 3 football fields with explosions.

The other half would bring their 1.5 ton warheads to hard targets such as ships, docks and other hardened facilities.

Actually amraam and aims are perfect for hitting cruise missiles, which travel on a straight trajectory, as you claim they were flying high that makes them better for the purpose of being attacked both by fighters and air defence systems. I agree that hit by cannon would have been practically impossible, but a few would have been downed.

If they had been low using NAP they would have been harder to hit, but even then as they were crossing sea it would have been reasonably easy.

The problem with missiles landing on cities is a very long straw as much of what your targets seem to be are coastal, so there has to be more than a fair percentage landing on sea or rural.

Not forgetting that my planes had just arrived and were waiting to get clearence for landing when your missiles appeared so I would have enegaged them well out to sea.

ooc: I was implying the fighter's cannons when I said that. To engage with cannons would require following the cruises into their attack dives at this close to the coast, basicly. I still gave better than a 50% overall kill ratio on them though, which is pretty good. And yes, the debris will fall indescriminately. I was pointing out that just because you hit one doesn't make it harmless.

Battlehawk, the damage is up to you. The missiles'll be hitting by now.

"Our strikes are hitting now, sir."

"Ahead full speed, right rudder. Lets move to engage those Rechburg ships, shall we?"

"Aye sir."

And Taffy Seven began to steam in the general direction of the Rechburg contacts. By now the deck launchers had been reloaded with mostly anti-shipping cruise missiles and the dangerous Donaldson class cruisers were itching to cut loose.

Taskforce Pressure
Due to the number of enemy aircraft in the area, Taskforce Pressure had called in further support from the Colonial Marine Corp and Air Force. F/A-77 Zulus were inbound from Blubland to join the already present CAP of Battle FA.1s over the fleet. In addition, the Air Force had sent out a squadron of its brand new F-99 Victory Air Domination Fighters (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=14218646#post14218646) to the area. These non-navalized aircraft would refuel from the circling tanker aircraft and then head north to help protect Taffy Seven from air attack.

South of Saul heading towards blackhawk via Rammsteinburg

The Expeditionary Fleet and 1st battlefleet now combined, the attack submarines from the task force were released and the littoral ships were on the flanks performing anti sun and anti air screen duties.
AWACs from rechburg supported the fleet.

Admiral Ney had just arrived onboard CVN Blasie and had assumed command of the joint force now desinated TF Ney.

Cap patrols were up and fighers were spotted on the decks, the GPS locations and satelite indicators were being downloaded onto the offensive missile systems

Republic of Blackhawk

The strike force had landed and was now being refueled.

Colonel Watson was in the base commanders office.

"Damn that was a hairy way to arrive in a country, some welcome party those Blubbers put on huh. Actually Sir Im hoping you have some 120 Amraam and aim 9 missiles we could onload, we are already armed with anti surface; its just we shot of every damn missile we had at those cruisers"

As he looked out the window, he could see fires from damage done by some of the cruise missiles.

He turned once again to the Base commander,
I expect this will be the base where the Galaxies will be landing with our support crews and supplies huh?".

OCC

Im not sure where everything is in relation to every other damn thing :-)

I know Rammsteinburg and Rechburg are in the south Pacific near RL new zealand Australia, I have assumed Blackhawk was east of Rammsteinburg and Saul was Nor west of Rechburg roughly where new Guinea are is in RL.

Im working on these assumptions, if Im wrong could someone let me know, also i have no idea where Blub colony would be in the Pacific.
The only reason I am asking is the timing thing.. ie TF Ney leaving Saul, to sail south east to Ramm would be North of New guinea to New zealand, then to Blackhawk which I assume would be near chatam Is in RL. That distance for a combined fleet is likely to take 3-5 days depending on proximity of forces.

Taffy Seven

Still acting as the lead element with Taskforce Pressure 400km south, Taffy Seven steamed northwards at a steady 25 knots. The F-99s would be overhead soon and Taffy Seven was feeling its oats.

Taffy began to launch another wave of their cruise missiles. These missiles upped into ballistic arcs and maxing out at 40,000 feet before tipping over and following their guidance systems in towards the Battlehawk ports and infrastructure previously targetted.

The VLS cells launched missile after missile while the deck launchers remained silent. The deck tubes were filled with anti-shipping missiles and would not be useful in a land attack role. The VLS cells were soon empty and the last of the cruise missiles were outbound for Battlehawk.

In total, another wave of 230 cruise missiles were bound for Battlehawk, trying to cripple and finish off their ability to wage war at sea and prepare for a full-scale invasion.

(Battlehawk, feel free to shoot down as many as you like and describe what damage is done so we don't need to waste 2-3 posts worrying about them.)

IC
The AWACs had located the Blub fleet, they kept it at maximunm range and circled in a lazy 8 patrol route.
Rechburg Naval Command were redirecting several satelites to cover the region.

The SURTASS ships had reported sub and surface movements up to 600 km away, all these reports were being programmed into the battlesuites on the fleet and in Rechburg Defence headquarters.

The galaxies had landed in Battlehawk, unloading air support crews, armaments and base security equipment such as AA missile batteries and military police.
The greatest asset unloaded thus far was the skyguard Batteries, these were being set up and the data programed in, their AA missiles were able to cover a huge area, but the Hellion stealth cruise missiles batteries which they covered were already easily in range of the Blub fleet, in fact of the Blub nation.
The galaxies continued to bring more armaments into Blackhawk through the day and night.
A AWACs flight had arrived from Rechburg and would fly patrols around Battlehawk.

For Admiral Ney this was a nail biting period, waiting for the units to come into support range and or hoping the Blub fleet would move closer to Battlehawk

Duke Blaise read the orbat reports, everything was in place to defend Blackhawk, the plans were in place to begin the offensive against both the Blub colony and its fleets currently in the south Pacific, yet oddly no one had tried to settle this issue diplomatically.
Despite not having had much to do with the Blub colony he decided that before war broke out, diplomacy should be given a chance.

To the Blub Government.

The present situation regarding the escalation of tensions in the South Pacic will profit no one and will eventually cause many peoples and their nations much misery.

We in the Grand Warlord Alliance are committed to the defence of our ally the Republic of Blackhawk, let there be no misunderstanding on that point.
So far you have inflicted considerable damage on Blackhawk in an unprovoked attack, the response from the alliance will be as swift as it will be destructive.
To prevent further bloodshed I am urging you to step back from this pointless escalation of tensions.

Whether there is to be war or not is purely your choice, your fleets are in Alliance waters, attacking an alliance nation; we are committed to the defence of that nation. Therefore as I stated previously whether there is war or not is your choice, but I urge you to remember you may start a war very easily, you may find you may not finish a war quite so easily.

Unprovoked? It is our homeland which was attacked first. It was our ship which was fired upon first. It was our Marines who were fired upon first. Blubland is not responsible for the onset of violence. In each case we responsed with similar force type. When our Marines were shot at, they returned fire. When Republic was attacked, it too returned fire. When our homeland was attacked, we retaliated against Battlehawk.

This is not your fight. We have no need or desire to hurt your soldiers and destroy your ships and we offer you the opportunity to withdraw from the conflict.

Quote:
"This is Blubland Colonial Navy ship Republic hailing civilian cargo ship. We demand an immediate stoppage of your vessel. Your ship has been claimed in the name of the Colonial Navy. Any resistance will lead to your sinking and the deaths of your crew."

"Of course" Daniel replied "Yesterday afternoon the Merchent vessel Halton was approached by the Blub Colony ship Republic who ordered her surrender, Captain Lennox attempted to warn off the enemy but was eventually obliged to stand down and the enemy bordered the Halton" Daniel paused "These Pirates began to secure the ship and we beleive their intentions were to take the cargo and do god knows what to the crew, below decks, as on everyone of our merchent vessels was a small team of battlehawk marines, this team made their way to the deck, on the way they were engaged by enemy soldiers and returned fire" Daniel took a sip of water handed to him "They managed to outwit the enemy and were able to plant scuttleing charges on the ship and commander their helicoptor, they and the ships crew then evaced the ship and headed towards the RBS Excelsior, the helicoptor was targeted by the Republic and a missle was fired, Captain Lennox held the helicoptor steady as the rest jumped out and swam for the Excelsior, he was killed" Daniel took another sip "the Blubians then declared war on us and I requsted the help of our allies"

The Duke was puzzled about the logic of all this
Clearly since the Blub colony knowingly attacked a country he was also attacking a complete alliance, so far the alliance has refrained from any aggression. but how long will that last.

The Rammsteinburg 7th Expeditionary Fleet stopped just short of entering Battlehawk territorial waters. A message was sent out:

Retired Admiral Edward Holstein, newly elected President of the Grand Warlord Alliance, was sitting in his office at GWA HQ in the city of Ark, Rammsteinburg. The large room was practically empty, for he hadn't had time to fill it with personal nick-knacks. Only the essentials were present: a large oak desk, a new Dell computer purchased by the government of Rammsteinburg, a phone, a currently empty filing cabinet, and a coffee maker on a small table in the far left corner. Holstein was surprised at just how fast the alliance was being put the test. It had only formed a few weeks ago, and now there was the potential for war looming!

The President pressed a button on his phone that connected him to his secretary in the adjacent room. "Susan, get Admiral Ney on the line, please," he said.
Rechburg
25-11-2008, 19:02
Message was handed to Admiral Ney,
The Rammsteinburgers 7th Fleet wasnt moving to Blackhawk waters, it appears they were trying to work on a diplomatic solution.

Ney looked at the digital screen, pondering his choices

He could begin the offensive now, but that would piss his alliance partners off big time, especially when they were looking at diplomatic solutions; or he could hold off.

He decided that as long as the Blub colony refrained from agrresive moves he would give the peaceniks a chance.

Hitting the comms button he said

This is Admiral Ney,
At this time the Warlord Alliance are seeking a diplomatic solution to this war, we will respect that and wait to see what their efforts achieve. Meanwhile all data and programming of target solutions will be continously monitered, we are still in condition Red people, so pay attention.

25-11-2008, 19:06
The light on neys panel lit up once again, on the screen the comms officer had highlighted it was his old Pal Holstein.

Picking up the phone

"Ed you old retrobate, I hear they have dragged your sorry arse out of retirement, now why are you bothering me here on the sunny but crisp beaches of Blackhawk"?
Rammsteinburg
25-11-2008, 19:10
The President chuckled. "Yea, well, I was getting tired of advising pencil necked geeks at the Ministry of War who haven't seen a second of battle. It's good to hear from you again, Joachim," he said. "I wish this was a social call. I wanted you to fill me in on this Blubland situation. Oh, and I just went down to the General Assembly. They're considering appointing you as Commander-in-Chief of Unified Forces. I figured that the post needs to be filled right away, in case the alliance does get thrown into war."
Rechburg
25-11-2008, 19:15
"Jesus Ed, me as a pencil pusher, I bet Blaise is behind this; mind you I would get to see a lot more of Sarah.
Anyway Ed,the situation here is a clusterfuck of a massive scale, this isnt a war of conquest or revenge; its just two bloody leaders who got bored one day.

Im here as part of Duke Blaises response, I understand that there are moves to look for diplomatic solutions and that is fine, but Ed I have my people waiting with fingers on buttons; I hope it doesnt turn into a committee decision."
Rammsteinburg
25-11-2008, 19:20
"The President-General gave the order for 7th Fleet to stop and wait for attempts at a diplomatic resolution. I've appointed a guy from Ordo Drakul as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs to handle the talks. But listen, you are free to go ahead and act as you see fit," the President said. "The alliance has yet to take an official stand on this dilemma, so you're under no obligations yet. Whatever decision you make--whether to remain neutral while the alliance tries to fix this or to jump into the fight--I will understand and back you."
Rechburg
25-11-2008, 19:26
"Well Ed, I sure as hell dont want to escalate a war when there doesnt need to be, so we will wait and as the song says, give peace a chance. But hey Ed; if the shit hits the fan sure would appreciate some more muscle, meanwhile I will sit on my bridge and watch the lovely smoky haze of Blackhawk.
Damn I love the smell of Napalm in the morning"
Rammsteinburg
25-11-2008, 19:36
"Understood," replied President Holstein. "If worse comes to worse, the 7th Expeditionary Fleet will be ready to back you up. We also have elements of the 3rd Fleet on the alert, as well as Marine Expeditionary Force 1 -- that's your girl Sarah's group." He said the last part in a friendly mocking way.

Taffy Seven

Having expended their land attack missiles, Taffy Seven turned south-east and away from the region of conflict. They would pass Taskforce Pressure on its way north and link up with a Sanders AOE in calm weather and perform a magazine reload at sea.

Taskforce Pressure

The main taskforce was nearing Battlehawk waters. The fleet would begin to engage in a calculated manner. Overhead satellite imagery provided the GPS coordinates of targets. Two satellites were tasked with tracking the Battlehawk "Talons", following their patrol routes and then back to their airbases. The first stage had been initiated by Taffy Seven, in crippling the ports.

At 500km south of Battlehawk, the second stage of engagement would begin. The Prince of Aralonia and Valiant class battleships slowed down alongside the fleet's Donaldson class cruisers. Computers worked on calculations and then with a roar, a fresh wave of cruise missiles were launched into the sky. This fleet represented two of Blubland's standard combat fleets, a relatively small number of ships compared to many other nations, the Colonial Navy didn't rely on numbers. They made use of the overwhelming firepower and quality of their equipment to get the job done.

Ten of the Donaldsons fired off fifty cruise missiles each, the two Valiants fired fifty each and three of the Prince of Aralonias fired off two each.

In total, 600 land attack cruise missiles were screaming off towards Battlehawk. A wave of 100 were targetted at the ports again, but this was to keep the defenders guessing. The other 500 simply kept going in their arcs, instead targetted on Battlehawks' airports and air bases.

Half of the 500 carried standard 1.5 ton warheads focused on taking out air control towers, RADAR, radio towers, hangars, fuel tanks and other similar targets. The other half of the missiles would dispense submunitions directly onto the runways. These submunitions would produce soccerball sized holes all over the tarmac, disabling them for use by aircraft. Additionally, the submunitions have such a wide range of scatter, they would probably hit many of the hangars near the runways as well.

(In total, 100 cruise missiles on the ports. 500 targetted on airfields as described above.)

The 6 missiles fired by the Prince of Aralonia Fleet Monitors were far different from cruise missiles however. These heavy ballistic missiles were BSLAM (Blub Smart Land Attack Missile) which screamed along at only 400 feet off the ground at well over mach 3. These missiles were unlikely to even be detected at longer ranges due to their low entry.

The BSLAMs would target a 6km stretch of empty beach and deliver their 3.65 ton payloads 200 feet off the ground. The overpressure of such explosions are designed to detonate any land or sea mines in the area. Effectively, clearing the beach of hazards.

OCC From Rechburgs point of view I will respond to the effects of the attack tomorrow, not enough time to do at length response now.
Blackhawk and others can wait or do as they wish.

Suffice to say Blackhawk AA defences are many times stronger now than when the 1st attack was launched and AWACs and EW aircraft and satelites that had been repositioned would have all detected the launch blooms. Thus the attack will be detected very. More tomorrow.

The submarine "Gwyn" had arrived at the scene of the orginal conflict, being one of the new line of subs that using Fuel Cell drive it was extremely silent and almost undetectable due to its space age covering of sonar obsorbant material.

Their mission as briefed by the Alliance command was to determine if there was nuclear material on board the Blackhawk ship.

Petty officers Harry Jamison abd Clive Kelly left the submarine through the escape hatch. The movement in their deep sea diving suits was difficult and restrictive, but finally they found and entrance way through the whole in the hull of the ship.
It required several dives but eventually they searched the ship and could not find any nuclear material or weapons aboard. There were hundreds of cars and vehicles as well as general cargo.

Once having finshed the dive, the submarine moved away from the site and quicly send a burst signal to a satelite which repeated it to to the Alliance Headquarters in Rammsteinburg

"No nuclear weapons or material on board the ship, General Cargo only".

The Gwyn continued on her patrol.

Ever seen an F-117 Nighthawk? They look like that because they're designed to deflect Radar. The Submarines had been pre-stealthed, their curving surfaces cunningly deflecting Sonar. The fleet settled to the bottom of the ocean, fake Coral protruding from their surfaces, an almost perfect disguise. There were several holes in the coral, assumedly dens for various creatures. The creature living in this one, though, was a Mark IV Airburst Torpedo. It slid out of the hole, picked up speed, jumped out of the water like a fish, and detonated under the planes.

Since somehow... 500 missiles were all destroyed by the "epic" Battlehawk defenses, the Taskforce Pressure pulled further south to wait for the bulk of the Colonial Navy to catch up to the scene.

This bulk of course included the majority of Blubland's powerful cruisers and battleships. And of course, that was only the start. This armada was surrounded by a wide ring of submarine killing destroyers and corvettes. In the center of the formation were the larger Colonial aircraft carriers, providing a steady patrol overhead.

Once Taskforce Pressure and this relief force linked up, their codename was then changed to Taskforce Overpressure.
