It's that time again! With the Mewsland war over, the Presidential spot is open. And the candidates are as follows:

Democracy Party: Mew II
Temporarily current President
Supports civil rights and a free market

Socialist Party: Joseph C.
Currently Mewsland island 4 governor
Supports obligatory military service, some civil rights, and a regulated market

Vice presidential election will be held after the President-elect is chosen.

Chazaka wishes to report that Mew II has been indicted for possible war crimes or at least an accomplice to the crimes of her sister and will not currently be available to campaign( or rule if somehow elected.) Infact we find this whole thing as foolish as Mewsland is currently under foreign occupation for now and the foreseeable future.

Chazaka.... The Mewsland High Court is the only power that has the authority to indict a president...

The Government of Salzland has cast a vote for 'Other,' because it believes that neither candidate is qualified to run the nation of Mewsland from a position of placing Mewsland's best interests above their own individual interests.

OOC: Who is the other candidate and from what party do you wish to nominate?

OOC: Anyone, or no-one I presume.

OOC: I'm pulling a page from the old Soviet ballots and just 'X'-ing out both candidates because I do not feel that either is qualified. Beyond that, unless you want me to create a party and candidate, I don't know what else you want.

OOC: Run away with it. Create a party and a candidate. Basically... Ah, what the heck?

Blake Announces Formation of Mewsland Federal Party

Stunning news arrived from the nation of Mewsland today, as populist Mayor Terrance Blake announced the formation of the Mewsland Federal Party, to run against both the incumbent Democracy Party and the challenging Socialist Party in the upcoming presidential election.

In his announcement speech, Blake laid out his new Party's platform to a packed auditorium in Southern Mewsland.

"My friends, for too long the voice of the Mewsland people has been ignored. For too long we have been subjected to hereditary rule, masquerading under the banner of 'Democracy.' How many of us voted for the disasterous civil war waged by President Mew II and Aelita, Mew II's very sister? How many of us voted for Aelita to detonate a nuclear weapon on our own soil? How many of us voted to forgive her for this crime, as Mew II did? How many of us voted for the international retaliation which followed? I will tell you my friends, that I did not vote for these atrocities, and I will not allow the regime which pardoned them to continue to rule. Not in my name, and not in Mewsland's!"

As of our deadline Mayor Blake was unavailable for comment, as were President Mew II and Governor Joseph C. of Island 4. However a press pamphlet was included along with a transcript of Blake's speech, outlining the basic platform for the new Federalist Party.

-A Central Government founded on the principle of a Representative Democracy, which also respects certain sovereign powers reserved to the individual island and local governments
-Open diplomatic relations with friendly nations, repair damaged reputation caused by civil war and aftermath
-Declare any and all further stockpiles of Mewsland nuclear weapons, pending their deactivation and safe disposal
-Seek partners to establish a Mewsland Free Trade League

OOC: Um, why would there be an election if it were hereditary rule? Technically if it were hereditary rule, Mew II would rule for life.

Revolutionary cooperates with Calaveras and creates Patriotic National Communist Party of Mewsland

Commander Seth Sutler had some air time on the local channels and began to spew forth his ideas. " It is time we establish a proper communistic state. Not like Russia, not like China, but like Calaveras. We must increase goverment size and control, and improve personal freedoms. I will create a document of amendmants which will go into effect if i should win this election. I beleive in the right to bear arms, to freely protest and speak my mind. I believe in a strong dictatorship with smaller governor elections with will offer the perfect blend of political atmosphere in this country. If you see as I see then you will vote for me, we must raised the black flag upon this country and join in arms with our comrades from Calaveras!!! Long live Mewland!" He said raising his hand into the air.

OOC: Because I recall from Post #1 of the other thread that the 'elections' consisted of Mew II's father running against his children. Certainly less than a free and fair election, as the offspring of the current President were instantly elligible to run for that office as well.

Most of Mewsland's five million people will not stand for this, most notably Mew's children, all of which were planning to run in the next election along with their father.

Besides, it's politics! A certain amount of pandering to the crowds and theatrics is to be expected :)

MEWSLAND ELECTION UNEXPECTEDLY CLOSES!

The Mewsland Senate unexpectedly closed the presidential election shortly ago in an emergency session, and when they were finished, Mew II was termed "President for Life". Mew II was not aware of the session and asked the election to be reopened, but the Senate refuses.

Can't Mew II, as president for life, reopen the election himself? Or is he not a dictator?

OOC: This has so many flaws in so many places. It says one thing, then contradicts itself a few psots later. Mewsland, take it from me. You are in no position to be holding elections. Your under occupation by (I think) a 4 nation coalition, and your leader (Mew II) is currently under trial with Aelita for war crimes.

Mew II is not a dictator.

She is merely a President, and still has the other two branches to deal with.

A president who was proclaimed, by the apparently all-powerful Senate, to be president for life.

Also, if the third branch serves the same purpose as the US judicial branch, then why haven't they done their job and declared the senate appointment unconstitutional?

The Mewsland High Court is currently tied up in Aelita's trial.

And there is not provision that makes it so the Senate does not have unlimited power while the High Court is occupied with something?

The Senate has the power to make such law without authorization ONLY when BOTH the President AND the High Court are unavailable. Odds are the High Court will convene about said law after the Mewsland Incident has been settled.

Then why didn't the Senators make themselvs Senators for life, or something along those lines? If they don't have the power to do so, then isn't it a little illogical to give the senate power to make the president president for life only when he is unavailable?
