The Kingdom of Bardar is a newly independent nation that became independent after finally driving out the occupying forces of the PFF (People's Freedom Federation, in Bardar just called The Oppressors). After several centuries of foreign occupations the Bardarians were finally able to create an own Bardarian nation. The leader of the rebellion Antroil Sarekh who was a descendant of the Ancient kingdom of Bardar became the first king of the newly independent nation. He tool the name Bardur I. Now his niece Barazine I is the sovereign queen of Bardar.
The Kingdom of Bardar's top exports are oil and opium. The oil wells of Northeast Bardar are owned by The Kingdom of Bardar and the Northstar Corporation; a Belschaft based oil company. Oil from Bardar is sold all over the world.
The opium trade, even though illegal in Bardar, is an important lifeline for the Bardarian economy and thus ignored by the state. The opium fields in the Yawgalian Autonomous Province and South Bardar are controlled by the international criminal organization; the Opium Ring. The Opium Ring helped the Bardarians during their Liberation War and is considered an ally to the nation. Opium from Bardar is turned into heroin in Opium Ring labs all over the world. Bardar has several times promised to fight the opium business, but always failed to do so.
Next; The political system and the Bardarian religion.
The political system of Bardar;
The political system of Bardar is centered around two important institutions; The 6 Great Families and the 11 National Clans. The 6 Great Families are the closest thing to a nobility Bardar has. They all can trace their ancestors to the Ancient Kingdom of Bardar, and they all have claims on the Bardarian throne. the Sarekh family is the current ruling family. Members of the 6 Great family have a monopoly on the senior positions in the Bardarian cabinet. It's also forbidden in law to slander any of the families in public. One can easy say that the political power in Bardar lies within the Great Families. the Families are; Sarekh, Berdin, Zum, Alvaras, Konstant and Juggau.
The 11 National Clans are ancient family alliances. All citizens of Bardar are members of a Clan, the one they are born into. The Clans have their own courts, council of elders and Grand Assemblies. If your family is thrown out of your Clan you lose your Bardarian citizenship. This also means that all Bardarians born in the diaspora automatically have a Bardarian citizenship. The Clans have a huge influence on Bardarian politics, all laws that deal with the citizen question has to be passed by all Clans. The Clans also have their own courts, where private clan matters are settled. These courts are independent on both the State Courts and the Religious Courts. Clan matters are usually decided by a Council of Elders. The Elders are elected for life during Grand Assemblies, when as many Clan members as possible are gathered to deal with issues concerning their Clan. There is a vary important rule of ethic involved; never kill a kindred, which mean never kill a member of your own Clan, and always support a kindred, which means always help members of you Clan. The Clans are; Evris, Asquil, Ondas, Masmur, Orives, Belkesh, Alkal, Ishmen, Treikas, Ploilas and Weynes.
Religion in Bardar;
The Church of Bardar is headed by a patriarch, always bearing the name Asmolach. The current patriarch; Asmolach II is as his predecessor also Prime Minister of Bardar. The core in the Bardarian belief system is the protection of the Lords of the Mountain, a number of old Gods that are worshiped as a collective. Another important key element is the wisdom of the Prophets. During the first century of foreign occupation many prophets arose in Bardar, giving the Bardarians an important moral code to follow. The Church has a central role in Bardar. All followers of the Bardarian faith must follow the morals and the ethics of the prophets. The Church has their own courts and are even able to sentence people to death for breaking the moral codes. All kinds of Heresy is punishable with death. Still another element of the Bardarian faith is the vision of the later prophets of a Great Mahdi that will arrive and purify the Bardarian nation from corruption, evil and foreign influences. A cult calling itself the National Syndicate has risen in Bardar, claiming it's leader Imre Nagvar to be the mahdi. imre Nagvar has promised his followers a religiously pure Bardar, freed from the monarchy and the Clans. A nation ruled by religious leaders based on social equality and radical nationalism. Imre Nagvar has even went as far as leading an armed uprising against the government.
The Christians of Bardar are mostly catholics. The Bardarian Catholic church has broken their ties with Rome due to an argument over the sainthood of the Chrisitan Bardarian hero St. Iskalder. Another reason was that the Catholics in Bardar were seen as traitors and non- citizens for taking orders from a foreigner. When the Catholics broke with Rome and chose their own pope, Gregorios I, they were readmitted to the clans and were awarded a limited citizenship.
The Yawgalian religion goes around their Great Goddess, and her priests and priestesses. the Yawgalians believe their Great Goddess is born in a human form each generation and a "Living Goddess" is chosen from the newborn girls. The Living Goddess serve until her death when a new one is elected. The Yawgalian priesthood have no political influence over the Autonomous Province of Yawgalia, but most Yawgalians are strongly religious.
Next; the geography of Bardar.
Geography in Bardar;
Bardar is a landlocked mountainous country. In the north is the Northern Lowland with the oil wells and the city of New Baradech, a city mostly inhabited by foreign oil workers. A little bit south is the old city if Hadifa, with it's large ancient walls. South of Hadifa you have the Yawgalian Autonomous Province in the West and the Central Mountains in the East. The Yawgalian Autonomous Province is shaped as triangle, and therefor sometimes called the Yawgalian Triangle. The Yawgalians have their own culture, language and religion. They are not Bardarian citizens, but is given the rights of an autonomous province according to the Law of Residence. The Yawgalians are mostly farmers, and there are numerous opium fields in the province. The Opium Ring has a strong presence there.
The Central Mountains, or the Trap of Bardar is huge mountainous area southeast of Hadifa. Enormous mountains, bad and narrow roads, thick fog and visibility problems from the air has made the area vital for Bardarian military strategy. The Bardarian army can hide in the mountains for months undetected, and any enemy force trying to invade the mountains is easily defeated. In the southernmost part of Central Mountains is the Wall of Blood, a large mountainous wall where the Freedom Fighters of Antroil Sarekh won the most crucial battle of the War of Liberation against the Oppressors. A statue of Antroil Sarekh has been placed there so all who pass by can remember that glorious day.
South of both the Yawgalian Triangle and the Central Mountains is Lake Bardar. On the shores of the large lake, the water reservoir of Bardar, are many ruins of both temples and cities. In ancient times both the Estalian civilization and the Ancient Kingdom of Bardar were situated close to this lake. Southeast of lake Bardar is the Great Lowlands dominated by the City of Pesche. Pesche is a city were especially the Christian minority is numerous, but also the hometown of many of the clergy in the Church of Bardar. In Pesche old traditions are much important, and the city is the ancestral home of the House of Zum. A little bit east of Pesche is the capital Baradech. Baradech is multi- million metropolis. In Baradech the Temple is situated, the center of the Bardarian religion. The royal palace and the government buildings are all situated in the capital.
From Baradech you have the Eastern Mountains in the east and the Southern Mountains in the south. both have impressing caves where the Bardarian civilian population had hide during the wars. Somewhere in the Southern Mountains is the Secret Military Base, which is the Headquarters of the Bardarian armed forces. Only high- rank politicians and military personnel know exactly where this place is. The southernmost parts of Bardar is called South Bardar. It's an area with many hills. In this area the city of Gellenek is situated. South Bardar is mostly known for opium, since there are numerous opium fields and a strong presence of the Opium Ring.
This is the geography of the Kingdom of Bardar. Next; Bardar in ancient times.
Bardar in ancient times;
In Ancient times the Lake Bardar are was inhabited by advanced civilizations. In the late 1100s BCE the Estalian civilization flourished. The Estalians lived in city states all having their own king and high priest. Still an alliance between many of the states existed and they spoke the same language and worshiped the same Gods. The Estalians traded with many other great ancient cultures. The height of the Estalian culture was in the 900s BCE. In the early 800s the Estalian culture was weakened. There was high corruption in the cities, the kings and high priests had lost their power to officials that only argued with each other. There had been many wars between the Estalian city states. At this time a tribe called the Bardarians arrived from the north. In about 800BCE the whole Estalian civilization had fallen and the Ancient Bardarian Kingdom was established. The Bardarians who were former nomads adapted much of the Estalian culture and loaned many words from the Estalian language. The Bardarian and Estalian population mixed, creating a strong kingdom. The Bardarian kingdom expanded north and in 648 BCE the city of Hadifa was built as a border city. The capital was Marruymesh, a city long since gone. The ancient kings of Bardar is said to have lived in large palaces with huge treasuries. The temples were magnificent. Many of the ancient ruins of Lake Bardar tell of this glorious past. In the 300s BCE the Bardarian power was weakened after a failed war against a neighbouring kingdom. So called Northeastern tribes, a coalition of various tribes of different ethnicities invaded Bardar. The Bardarian golden age was over and the first oppression began.
In 246 BCE a scripture tell that there are now four principals in Bardar. Baradech and Hashili are controlled by foreign dynasties, while Yadhas and Madhu are controlled by Bardarian dynasties. In 168 BCE Baradech is able to force the three other principals to become vassals, but in the first century ACE the power of Baradech diminish and all the principals become independent again. In the second century ACE a new threat appear in the north, the so called Dhalian- Huddrian Confederation, an alliance of two nomadic tribes. In the 250s ACE the invasion of Bardar begin, and the last principal; Madhu fall in 298 ACE. That was the end of the ancient era in Bardar. Since that date Bardar has been occupied by foreigners until the modern era.
Next; Bardar under foreign rule
Bardar under foreign rule;
The following centuries Bardar was dominated by her neighbors or by great empires. There seemed to be no strength left in Bardar for any own establishment. During the Hadifa era 298 ACE- 1168 ACE, Hadifa was the seat of the occupying nation's governors. In the 300s Christianity spread to Bardar, when preachers fleeing from their homeland arrived, spreading the religion. The Christian Catholic community in Bardar has it's roots from this era. There are even said some holy relics of the apostles are hidden in Bardarian churches and monasteries. Another important factor during first centuries of occupation are the prophets. When Bardarian culture seemed doomed to slavery holy prophets were born who thought the people of Bardar important lessons of bravery, morality and faith. The prophets learned the Bardarians the Bardarian way of life. They shaped the culture the Bardarians are still practicing today. The most known of these prophets was Jesus Muhammed Krishna. The so called later prophets that arosed during the 600s promised the arrival of a Great Mahdi, a leader who would lead the Bardarians both in spirit and in body. A religious and political leader that would chase away the foreigners and create a perfect society in Bardar. Many Bardarians are still waiting for this mahdi.
In 1168 one nation lost a war against another nation. Bardar got a new master, who moved the Governor's seat to Baradech. The Baradech era had began (1168- 1813). Baradech slowly became the largest city in Bardar, and in 1256 the first great Temple was built in Baradech, from that moment on the Church of Bardar had organized itself into a nationwide organization. The same year the first patriarch was elected. In the following centuries the Church came tom be the thing that defined Bardarian culture. The Bardarian people became very zealous. In 1689 a group of refugees called Yawgalians were allowed to settle in Bardar by the foreign king who ruled at that time. The Yawgalians were never liked by the Bardarians, but they settled in a small area in the west and Bardarians and Yawgalians tried not to bother eachother. In 1813 a Empire called the SuperUltraGiga Empire conquered Bardar and all her neighbors. The emperors of that empire believed they could conquer the whole world. In Bardar they came to be called the Oppressors. A little more than 100 years after, in 1929 the SuperUltraGiga Empire collapsed and reformed into a communist state called People's Freedom Federation. They tried to impose a foreign evil called Marxism on the Bardarians. They forced the Bardarians to work camps and separated families and conducted massacres. They called it a reeducation process. The Bardarian people had got enough, and revolted to finally drive the Oppressors away.
Next; the Liberation War
The Liberation War
The communist system of the PFF was against all that Bardarian system stood for. meanwhile the PFF believed that "uncivilized cultures" like the Bardarian needed to be vanquished and the people reeducated to good proletarians. Needless to say it sparked an armed uprising in Bardar, which just caused the Oppressors to extend their reign of terror even more. Families were executed, young boys dragged away to work camps and chemical weapons used on villages. The Bardarian rebellion can be split in two faces; The Juggau face, or the early rebellion under Hildrevis Juggau and his son Mezel Juggau. The Juggaus were able to inspire large groups of young men to retreat into the mountains and conduct guerrilla warfare against the Oppressors. In 1937 Hildrevis Juggau was defeated and imprisoned. He was executed in 1942. His son Mezel Juggau commanded the rebellion until 1962, when he was caught and executed. The Oppressors then tried to exterminate the Juggau family, which sought refuge at the hideouts of the Sarekh family. There the Juggaus made contact with the young visionary Antroil Sarekh, and the Sarekh face of the rebellion began.
Antroil Sarekh was able to mobilize larger masses than the Juggaus had been, he had good relations with the church and the rebellion was secretly blessed by the patriarch. When the Oppressors found out they had the Patriarch and three of his aides killed. This just sparked an even larger rebellion. In mid 70s, Antroil Sarekh, only 30 years old headed an organization encompassing most of the Bardarian nation. He had the mountains carefully mapped and found caves to hide children and old ones. He mobilized both men and women in his Freedom Fighters and conducted many successful attacks on the Oppressors. The Oppressors reacted by sending in more soldiers and even more ruthless commanders. In the 80s the Freedom Fighters were on the defensive, and had to hide deep into the mountains. They attacked only smaller groups, and tried to cut of the Oppressors' supply routes. This was partly a successful operation.
In the 90s the rebellion was still on, and it had spread to many of the other Mountainous provinces. The Oppressors now faced the threat of losing large territory if they gave in. Antroil Sarekh and his Freedom Fighters were hiding in Central Mountains. The Oppressors tried to maintain a invasion of the mountaisn through invading it from all sides. It was a huge failures, it's impossible to get large vehicles on the narrow paths, visibility from the air is nonexistent, there's usually a thick fog, and the Bardarians knew the mountains like their own pockets. After taking several casualties the Oppressor army gathered at huge mountainous formation shaped like a big wall. There the bloodiest battle of the Liberation War took place, where Antroil Sarekh lead the Bardarians into a convincing victory. By the end of the year 1997 the Oppressors were retreating. Not only in Bardar, but also in the other mountainous nations the Oppressor forces were driven away. In the year 2000 they were ousted from all the Mountainous provinces. In the year 2004 the Oppressor's faced a huge internal crisis and accepted the independence of the Mountainous Provinces, this just caused the Oppressors to collapse even more, a collapse they have never recovered from. In 2005 the Council of Commanders were abolished in Bardar and the monarchy was established, with Antroil Sarekh as King Bardur I.
Next; The War of Patriotism
OOC; This is the Bardarian view of the events, other nations of course view these facts differnetly
IC;
The War of Patriotism
The discovery of oil in Bardar happened already during the era of the Oppressors era, but the oil wells were often attacked by the Bardarian freedom fighters. After the reopening of the oil wells shortly after the independence other nations became interested in the Bardarian national resources. The rogue nation of Call to Power wanted to extend their greed into the territory of Bardar and attacked the sovereign king Bardur I with the worst insults ever imagined. The socialist bastards of Revolutionary Esparada wanted revenge for the failure of the Oppressors and joined in the war. Even Belschaft, which had signed a good deal for the Bardarian oil industry was bullied to attack the sovereign nation. Actually the cowards of Call to Power left the whole invasion to Belschaft and Revolutionary Esparada. The first major battle, the battle of Hadifa against the Belschafts was concluded in a Pyrrhic victory for the Bardarian armed forces. However the city had to be evacuated and the Bardarian army sought refuge in Central Mountains. The Belschafts did not dare to follow, but instead cowardly conducted the worst thinkable war crimes by invading the Yawgalian Triangle, a neutral and demilitarized done. The Opium Ring armed the Yawgalian leader Thadu Hexher to rise a militia against the invaders which he did. Thadu Hexher is still the leader of the Yawgalian Autonomous Province.
The more brave armies of Revolutionary Esparada followed the Bardarians into Central Mountains. The Esparadans were like the Bardarians used to fight in tough spots without technological advantages. Even though the Bardarian knew the terrain better tough battles occurred and in the end both armies obliterated each other after a glorious last stand by the Bardarian forces at the Wall of Blood and a heroic last charge into the Esparadan defenses. Meanwhile the nation of New Chalcedon arranged a peace conference in their capital attended by both Belschaft and Bardar. After the Bardarian representative, Foregin Minister Oslaus Berdin was assassinated by an agent from the National Syndicate that had infiltrated the Belschaft delegation the prospect for peace looked grim. However at that time the Oppressors under Comrade Raskol took advantage of the situation and invaded. A Bardarian army assembled by the king himself advanced north but was dragged into a battle with a Esparadan army at the beaches of Lake Bardar. Meanwhile Bardar and Belschaft signed a peace agreement and planned an alliance against the Oppressors. The Esparadans soon understood the situation and pulled out of Bardar. The Bardarian forces were reinforced by Opium Ring mercenaries and Yawgalian militiamen. Together with the Belschaft army the Comrade Raskol's forces were beaten and driven out of Bardar. Back home Comrade Raskol was arrested for treason and executed. In Bardar that war, the first war of a new nation is remembered as the War of Patriotism. Bardar was tested and survived the test. That war made Bardar a true independent nation, but it also thought the Bardarian leaders an important lesson; namely; foreigners can't be trusted, and Bardar has since that war been a nation without foreign contacts.
Next; The controversy over the Catholics.
The controversy over the Catholics;
The Catholic minority in Bardar decided to break their ties with Rome and appoint their own pope; Gregorios I, for several reasons. Rome had decided not to appoint the Bardarian Catholic hero St. Iskalder as an official saint, even though most Bardarian Catholics already regarded him as one. The other reason was that the Bardarian state had not given the Catholics a Bardarian citizenship, because the Catholics had many centuries ago been ousted from the Clans. The Bardarian government considered the Catholics foreign spies, since they took orders from a foreigner. After the official break of relations the Bardarian government moved to emancipate the Catholics and started to work with the Clans for a readmission plan. However, most Bardarians had grown up with the teachings that the Catholics were traitors, and many nationalistic voices spoke against the government with harsh words. Some popular radio hosts even glorified terrorist acts against the catholics. When news came that a true Bardarian girl had been raped by a catholic there were a large public outrage. Only an official apology from the pope Gregorios I calmed things down. The government was able to get the Clans to readmit Catholic families, and by that the Catholics became citizens of bardar. However the nationalistic mood gave the National Syndicate more support, and they decided to start an official armed rebellion against the Bardarian government. Meanwhile catholic nations, such as Stevid and Avarahn plotted to extend their evil ways upon the Bardarian nation.
Next; Times of trouble
Looking good so far mate ;)
Times of Trouble;
The Stevid Templars and some organization from Avarahn called the Council had infiltrated Bardar in order to spread chaos and death. They were irritated about that the Bardarian catholics had broken up with Rome, and with their evil Christian minds at work they wanted the whole nation to pay. That's why they supported and helped to arm the National Syndicate and Imre Nagvar. They had also recruited a junior minister in the Royal Government named Trent Konstinokos to do their dirty work. Their first target was Carelia Alvaras, the notorious matriarch of the Alvaras family, and Minister of Interior and Security. She was however able to trick the assassins and fake her own death thanks to her connections with the Opium Ring. Later she took over the Secret Police and tried to enlist the Templars on her side. Due to a devious plot by Sector 13, the only still functioning department of the Oppressors PIA intelligence agency, the Templars misunderstood her intentions and brutally tortured and killed her. That sparked a bloody conflict between the Secret Police and the Templars.
Another victim was the former chief of the Secret Police; Danilo Sarekh who died bravely fighting an Avarahn spy. Furthermore Poltos Juggau, the Minister of Finance was assassinated as well as his brother Charton Juggau. The HQ of the Secret Police was destroyed, and later Dr. Hazel Zum, the minister of education and public enlightenment was killed as well as most of his family members. Then the Avarahn assassins turned on the beloved Prime Minister and Patriarch Asmolach. Asmolach's nephew Lakriv Sarekh took office as the new Asmolach, called Asmolach II. Next the assassins moved on Colonel Gracht, who commanded the war against the National Syndicate, a huge hit to military morale, but the worst was yet to come. The king's girlfriend Isabeu Monroe was actually a council spy and blew up the Royal Palace with the King inside, and next the plane carrying Prince Orol Sarekh was targeted by missiles and the heir to the throne died too. Prince Orol's daughter, 12-year-old Kishene Sarekh suddenly found herself queen of the warrior kingdom. She took the name Barazene, and was crowned in a silent ceremony at the Secret Military base where the government had fled. May the Gods of the mountains ensure a safe reign for Her Royal Highness Barazene I.
Next; Showdown with the National Syndicate.
Showdown with the National Syndicate;
Even though Bardar faced several blows the military continued their campaign against the National Syndicate. In the end Imre Nagvar was captured and his followers only held two strongholds. Meanwhile the new Bardarian Prime Minister Lakriv Sarekh (Asmolach II) was revealed to have a connection to the council, however he instead established a close contact with Magnus Morephis, a Council member in Avarahn, who was rallying support against Red Mask, the one who had caused all the suffering in Bardar. The new Chief of Police, Jidhir Trielas, a man who once had tried to kill Antroil Sarekh, was released from the Maximum Security Prison; The Great Gate. He was installed as the new Chief of the Secret Police, and he also had a strong connection to the Council. However, when Magnus Morephis took control of the Council in Avarahn, Asmolach II and Trielas did everything possible to stop Red Mask and her plans. The Secret Police was able to find the dangerous gas she had planned to give Imre Nagvar. Red Mask had disappeared and couldn't be found, but she was not a threat to the security of Bardar anymore. With the National Syndicate almost completely defeated Bardar could slowly rebuild.
Another incident that happened during this period was a large gunfight in the Northern Districts of Baradech. Both the Opium Ring under the command of Zethira Alvaras and Sector 13 under the command of Comrade Vanniez tried to kidnap and kill the Templar commander Captain Simeon. Sector 13 was successful in taking him, but he was rescued by his own organization. A fierce gunfight broke out between Sector 13 and the Templars, that only got worse when the Opium Ring got involved. In the end the gunfight ended before the Army arrived to break it up. However both the Templars and Sector 13 are still active in Bardar and present a serious threat to Bardarian Security.

During the follwing months there were the funeral of the king (Bardur I) as well as the Prime Minister Asmolach I. Later the bastards of the National Syndicate, including Imre Nagvar recieved the Holy Vengeance of the people and were tortured and executed. Some weird preacher was arrested and exiled, and the queen Barazene I turned 13.
However the big change was Operation Leopard Roar against the Opressors. A Great Offensive north made it possible for the brave Bardarian army to seize Jelek Valley and free the Bardarians of that area from Opressor controll. This also made it possible to assist our Bezelian brothers to create their own state, and the evil Opressors were driven to the other side of the River Styx. Bardar carried out a Holy Revenge on the Herrians and Jogrians living in these territories, and finally the wrongdoings that the Opressors carried out during the occupation are avenged. The Opressors on the other side of the River Styx started to fight eachother. Meanwhile the Bezelian wisely chose the Bardarian queen Barazene I as their Archduchess, which means Bardar and Bezelia entered a personal union.
The National Assembly.
The Kingdom of Bardar went through a big political reform shortly after Operation Leopard Roar. The establishment of a National Assembly introduced elections for the first time in the kingdom. Three parties competed for representation in the Third Chamber; The Chamber of the People. The Parties were the Bardarian National Party lead by General Thesselek Hagreis, the Bardarian People's Party lead by Dr. Karim Huswari and the Bardarian Labour Party lead by Ulok Jodris. The Chamber of the People has 250 seats, all democratically elected. The Bardarian National Party was endorsed by the Evris, Asquil, Orives, Belkesh, Ishmen, Ploilas and Weynes Clans. The Bardarian People's Party had support from the Ondas, Masmur, Alkal and Treikas Clans.
The Bardarian National Party won the election and secured 149 seats, the Bardarian People's Party won 92 seats and the Bardarian Labour Party only secured 9 seats. General Thesselek Hagreis became the first Speaker of the Chamber.
The National Assembly has 2 more Chambers; The Chamber of the Deserving for members of the 6 great families and the Chamber of the Clans with 55 seats, 5 from each Clan, elected at Clans Assemblies.
