The backstory of this tale? Irrelevant. The planet's location? Irrelevant. The number of zombies? Too many to count. Why are people from all over the galaxy here? IDK, my BFF Jill? It is not the past that matters, nor the future. All that matters is the here and now. And right now... there is a city full of zombies. Zombies need killing. I mean, re-killing.

What... the... hell?

An alley lit up in bursts of light, accompanied by a whirring noise and the clinking of shells... and moans. Suddenly, an explosion rocked the lonely side-street, and bits of flesh flew out of the enclosed space. Stepping out, the armored figure (http://media.filmschoolrejects.com/images/warmachine-fanart.jpg) tapped at its shoulder-mounted missile pack with some disappointment.

Dammit, Roberta thought to herself angrily. There I go, with my reflexive thoughts, wasting ammunition! I was trained better than this! The armored woman then turned her gaze on the ground. Or rather, what was splattered all over the ground in meaty giblets. It appeared to be flesh. Rotting flesh. But...

Those things were alive... she thought reluctantly. But... how could they be alive in such an advanced state of decay? They should be dead from necrosis. Maybe they are dead...

What was going on here? She shook her head, checking her power levels. Not good -- no thrusters, anyway, or not for the foreseeable future. Guess she'd have to hoof it. She strode away from the alley, shuddering slightly (trained soldier though she was) at what she had seen. Her armor, while compensated slightly by minute counterthrusts, made her every footstep a thumping cacophony. In the otherwise silent city, it was unnerving, at the least.

The silence of the city was broken yet again by a lighter set of sounds, more specifically a feminine voice, as a figure shimmered in to view. The suits shift abilites were energy draining and Tora didn't feel like wasteing the eenergy. Tora had no idea when she'd make it back to the starport and her ship. The zombies were damned numerous and there was safely in numbers, plus she was pretty sure no zombie was intelligent enough to operate that bit of hard body.

"A bit of over kill for mere zombies don't you think?" She called out to the armored figure that strode out of the alleyway. "Destroying the head usually does the trick."

She'd been part of a team that had been tasked to handle a zombie incident on Zhang’dao many years ago, and she'd hoped to never see another. But the universe had never been one to give her just what she wanted, it's sense of humor and hers had never matched.

Sneaking up on a walking WMD was a very bad idea. Roberta had spun at the sound, and her rotary cannon had spun-up. Before she could call for identification, the being spoke.

A bit of over kill for mere zahmbees, don't you think? Destroying the head usually does the trick.

Jaymin blinked her eyes in confusion inside of her mask. Zahmbees? What the hell were zahmbees? Glancing back at the alleyway, she allowed the cannon to slip back into an upright storage position. Those things couldn't speak; this woman could. That was a fairly good indication, at least to her, that this was not one of them -- a zahmbee.

"I am afraid I don't follow," she said on her external speakers. The modulator voice turned her voice into a deep one, with no femininity left in it whatsoever. Let this other chick think she was a guy. "What are... zahmbees? Are they a mutant race of Homo sapiens?" Roberta made no move towards the other person, her hand ready to fly up and deliver a repulsor blast on a whim. "Do you have any idea what's going on here?"

"Keep up the fire!" Dominic's voice was drowned out by the roar coming from the seven soldier's guns. They were situated in a building somewhere in the center of the town, and had been for hours. The sandbags barricading the entrace, along with what was left of their LODP (Low Orbit Drop Pod), were stained red with the blood of the people tha-
No, these weren't people, at the very least not anymore. These things could have legs, arms even their entire face taken off and still be coming at them.
"Dom, I'm out of ammo!" One of the Marines, the youngest one there at 17, Thomas his name was, turned around, pressing the trigger of his rifle which made a despondant click. Dominic tossed him a clip from his rucksack before turning back to the radio on the table.
"Repeat, this is Wolf Squad. We are pinned down by unknown lifeforms and need immediate support and evac! Repeat, we need evac!" Static. Dom roared and swiped the broken equiptment off the table, picked up his rifle and ran over to the window.
A sea of them greeted him.

You couldn't see the very street beneath them. Every space was either filled by one of those things (he refused to call them zombies) or a pool of their blood.
And more were coming.
Pretty much all of them men had stopped firing, staring slack jawed at the shuffling, moaning mass of monsters, apart from Thomas who still fired into the swarm. Dom pushed the barrel of his gun down.
"Conserve your ammo. We're here for a while."
---
Time passed. He didn't know how long it was. A few days, he reckoned, when he heard it. None of the monsters had moved from the front, the absolute wall of them was still pushing against the sandbags, but more had come. Realisation dawned slowly on the men.
"Cap'n... Did we barricade the roof?"
Pause.
The group spontainously got up, but not in time. One of the monsters had got in. It clawed at Thomas, knocking him down onto the ground, yelling. It fell down as well, grabbed at his head and bit down into his neck. The kid's screams were cut short and replaced by a gurgling. Dominic took out his pistol, spat on the thing, which still hadn't noticed the others, and put a bullet through it's head. There was silence for a minute as the group stood paying last respects to the dead battle-brother.
"What do we do now sir?"
Dom didn't say anything.
"Sir? Dom?" He shook his head.
"Huh, wha- We, we get out of here. The roof isn't secure, neither is this building. Let's go." They went to leave, when another one of the marine's fell down yelling. What had been Thomas now dragged him towards his by his foot, the marine frantically shooting at it. It shrugged off all of the bullets and bit into his leg, before the others saved him. Helping him up, the others murmered amongst themselves.
"We can't leave him-"
"We gotta. You saw what happened to Thomas, Dom. He turned into one of those fucking things."
"But he's a Marine! He's a cub damn it!
"I know, Dom. But think about it, bringing him with us only endangers us further. And pretty soon-" The one who was speaking threw a glance back. "-he won't be a cub anymore." Dom tried to argue, but then sighed.
"Fine. Let's go." Lowering the groaning marine onto the floor and injecting him with morphine, they left the building.
---
After that, the other marines lost the will to do anything. Apart from Dom. He fought with double his previous ferocity and took the most shifts on watch. In spite of his efforts, his squadmates - Werewolf's cubs - died, each one turning into one of those things before his very eyes.
---
That was a while ago.
Now, he chased down the explosion he had heard, skirting around the zombie's favorite haunts (guffaw) to the alley where he saw the flash. He pressed his back to the wall and peeked around the corner. Seeing the two armored figures, he felt a bit underprotected but still shouted out, "I'm friendly! I'm alive!" and held out his hands, gun first, before walking into the alley over the corpses.
"Nice work."

OOC: ZOMBIES!!!!

IC: Sabrina gazed at the picture (http://fc37.deviantart.com/fs31/i/2008/203/b/d/Imperium_Uniforms_Neo_by_sauronmrc.png) for a moment, bringing her back to easier days. Well, not really easy. Life in the Imperial Navy (OOC: Yeah, I'm changing it to Navy) was not exactly easy, but things weren't ever easy. At least she found a use for the skills she learned. She looked at the other faces in the picture. Jarek, Jenna, Fenris. She wondered how what they were doing now. Last she heard, Jarek became a lieutenant.

She looked through the rest of the stuff in her footlocker before she moved on, folding the picture and placing it in her pocket. She made sure this footlocker was not touched by any of the other students, as it contained stuff for her and her only. Extra powercells, a combat knife, and her black naval uniform. She chuckled as her eyes fell upon it. That thing sure saw a lot.

A sudden noise disturbed her, and her head darted up. A lone figure stood in the doorway. It's clothes were in rags, and flesh rotted away in places. And it reeked of decay. It paused for a second, as if registering her presence, before it lunged with a horrifying screech.

Sabrina snapped into action. She quickly brought up the laspistol, and snapped a single shot through the thing's head. The thing fell over, twitching as it's muscles noticing the hit. Sabrina lowered the laspistol, and tied her hair into a ponytail. Putting away the extra pistol, she took the power cells, and her knife. Before she left, she gazed at the uniform. She wished she could take it with her, but there simply wasn't enough time. She grabbed the rank pins, the black hat (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/thumb/a/ab/Stormtrooper_officer_cap.jpg/150px-Stormtrooper_officer_cap.jpg), and the Imperial Eagle insignia, stuffing them all into her pockets, and moved on. She thought for a moment about putting on the hat, but it was designed to obscure her eyes in order to look menacing, and decided against it.

She had to find others.

Bad move.

Spinning around, the rotary cannon spewed a tongue of flame as rounds sprayed over where the sound had originated. The unarmored soldier was nearly decapitated by the line of rounds that Roberta fired, his life saved only by the cannon having been restored after the last confrontation. Jaymin thanked the Great Lord Tiger that her barrage had not damaged the man, before becoming cold once more. Turning away from the other armored woman, she raised her open palm towards the man. It may have been perceived as a gesture of neutrality, but it wasn't -- a repulsorbeam was housed in her gauntlets, one that could tear his head clean off.

"Answers! Now!" Her altered voice boomed through the streets. "Who are you, and what are these things?"

"You do realise these things have no verbal skills other than bloody 'Euuuurgh', right?" He growled. "And keep your damn voice down. That suit may keep your smell in, but shouting like that, plus the smell of this fresh meat-" He kicked a severed arm over to her. "-is more than enough to get a few hundred moving. Shinaus awoke startled, he had no idea where he was, why he was there, or why in the hell people with advanced stages of necrosis were rapidly advancing upon him, but not one to ask questions, he fired his MAG rifle, and destroyed the cranium of many a zombie. Judging by the color of the blood and the amount of cranial fluids coming from the mangled heads, he judged that the people are, or in this situation where Humans. The Federation had met humans before, and as such knew a great deal about their anatomy.

After he had finished dealing with the group, he set to the task of activating his armor suit, and on-board personal AI, appropriatly named Leonidias after an ancient human warlord. As the AI activated Shinaus felt a cool liquid flood his mind. once the sensation stopped he said in mind speak

Hello Leonidais I trust you slept well?

Indeed I did sir, now what do you need of me?

I need to figure out where I am, and why these Humans are showing advanced signs of Necrosis and enhanced aggression.

One moment please sir, I'm accessing The united Fleets intergalactic historical files.... It says here that those symptoms are typically associated with zombieism... a most terrible disease.

Ok.... Can you get a hold of Fleet-Com and get an order to glass the Planet?

Negative, Interstellar communications are down.

Shit.... Ok get me a bioscan of all the sentient creatures within 25 miles whom are not showing these symptoms....

I have your results sir, we have two confirmed in an alleyway to the east of your position.... good luck.

With his AI's advice in mind Shinaus, started to run towards the alleyway, careful not to draw any attention from the zombies, when he reached the alleyway he engaged his stealth systems and observed the humans from a distance.

Sabrina moved slowly through the streets of the city, laspistol at the ready. She hadn't seen any more of those things since she left the Campus grounds. As a matter of fact, she hadn't seen any people, either. If she was going to survive, she had to find others. She moved along the sidewalk of a street. There was nothing there, save for corpses and debris. The occasional fire could be seen, burning unchecked as it reduced whatever was alight to ashes.

It was eerily quiet.

Well, it was a second ago, until gunfire ripped across the area a few meters ahead. Sabrina stopped dead in her tracks. Gunfire meant only one thing. People.

It was coming from an alleyway up ahead, from across the street. Crossing to the side of the building, she peeked out. There was a small group of people there. Not like those things. Living, breathing people.

But they wouldn't be living for so long. It seemed they didn't notice the zombie creeping on all fours behind them, crawling like an insect. She jumped out into the open, snapping off a pair of las-shots at the thing, hitting it in the torso. It gave out a screech, and jumped back into the shadows.

Sabrina advanced into the alleyway, laspistol raised in front of her.

"Who are you, and what are these things?"

Name is Dominic Kaiser. Captain, Void Templar Marine Corps. My squad came down here on a training mission and they're all dead now. And you two fine persons are?"

"Sheesh like he says. chill out! Zomibes are animated dead people, they rot, they fall apart eventually - very eventually - but unless you destroy their heads then fry the bodies they keep on coming." Tora added, then nooled over at the Captain

"And you stand down too. Univere Defend but I hate the frelling things! but I don't think he's ever tangled with them before and to a newbie they're - hell ta any one their disgusting - and dangerous."

The rounds that took out the crawling zombie had her laying the target lock of her own mbrx on the newcomer.

While the VT captain welcomed the woman, Tora activated her neuro link to her AI companion "Pip, can your sensors pick up any more close by?"

The sensor sweep found no more in a two block radius, but Tora knew that Pips sensors were very limited and shielded walls played hobb with the range even more.

She advised the other two "Sensors show none in about a two block rhnage, but we should keep moving. oh I'm Tora T'sai out ot Tanaara, on a recovery mission."

The concept was bizarre. Animated dead people? The very statement was a paradox! But instead, "I am called Rob," Roberta said to the crowd of people, voice modulator making her an apparent Robert. From one survivor to nearly a half-dozen, all in the space of five minutes. If that. "Before this planet... changed... I was permitted use of an advanced comms station. One with its own power supply. My first priority is to reach that building at all costs -- with that equipment, we can call for help, evac, whatever." Tora chuffed "When it comes to zombies,. shoot first yell later." She looked about sourly. "And I went and got myself farther from safety that I want to think about. I had to go miles down in that sewer - but I'll say this it's the cleanest sewer this side of Tokyo."

She took a moment to scan up. Zombies occassionally did surprizing things - and Tora hated being surprized.

"Good to meet you Rob" She replied to the armored figures offer "Sure I can try to get through to my ship. Thats was were I was headed, but there is safety in numbers."

Dom laughed.
"If I call Command, they'll send an entire battlefleet down here, take some samples of the zombies and then blow the planet to hell. So, I'll sit out." He thought for a moment. "I'll come with you though. I need to find a particular building, and the best way to find something you've lost is to go wandering I find."

Shinaus smiled to himself, none of the people had noticed him. That was good, it meant his stealth systems were still working just fine. He heard words of a ship, of a comms station, and a few other things. Just as he was about to start following the group, he heard the scrape of a shoe on the side walk, and quickly turned around. He saw three zombies, and they were headed right for him, it seemed his stealth systems were useless due to the zombies uncanny sense of smell. Quick as a flash he deactivated his cloaking field, leaped backwards, and fired MAP rounds into the zombies heads.

The sound of the MAP cannon made her jump. Sabrina spun around to notice another figure, blasting zombies with advanced MAP rounds.

"Look out!" She shouted in a twist of irony.

Bringing her pistol to bear, she snapped off shots into the crowd of oncoming zombies.

Looking back at Rob, "Ready to go when you are." She'd find her target when things were more under control, but that thought brought a twisted grin to her lips. With Zombies running rampant, who knew how long that'd be.

Roberta's cannon buzzed fiercely, mowing down zombies in clusters. It was indiscriminate in its slaughter, obliterating rotting flesh and bone alike. This couldn't keep up, though.

"This way!" she called, sprinting eastwards. The "building" she spoke of was a hidden military bunker (http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/12/17/bigger_silo.jpg), fortified with its own auxiliary power supplies and, yes, a powerful sensors suite/communications package. It could keep a dozen soldiers in relative comfort, and was actually furnished relatively well in its living spaces. A deep vertical shaft plunged into the earth, eventually joining tunnels that would then join other bunkers. It was odd, how naive the people of the city were of the vast military construction occurring, quite literally, under their feet.

Smashing through the door of the apartment building, Roberta led her motley crew of survivors through the hallways. Their final turn took them to a dead-end hallway. Or so they thought. She stopped herself short at the end, and poked a knot of wood in the wall. A keypad emerged, with 1 to 10 labeled in Galactic Basic. She turned to the group behind her.

"My gauntlets' fingers are too thick," she told them. "I need one of you to put in the following combination: 1-2-6-3-7-8-9-5-7-3-2-1-0-4." Stepping past them, she looked out a window. Trouble. "Hurry!" she called, looking over her shoulder at the crowd.

"Should be," Rob yelled back. "Unless your 'reanimated dead' can burrow through 10 meters of concrete and steel."

With the code punched in, the wood paneling slid back to the left and right, forming a gap. Behind it was a heavy steel door with a wheel lock. She spun it hurriedly, and the door hissed as the pressure was released. Waving at them, she moved on to the next door in the series, which was at the bottom of a flight of stairs. Opening that, she looked back.

"Come on," she called to them, "and make sure you close the doors behind you!" She stepped down the stairs to the bottom floor of the multilevel bunker, and was greeted by a comfortable sitting room furnished in 1990s Earth decor (which she didn't know what that meant but that was how it was, dammit).

Dom ducked into the room, then immediately frowned.
"The people who made this place had no taste. Reckon they'll have a phonograph in here?" He stood at the door, gun aimed in case any zombies arrived while the others got in.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Rob responded shortly. "If you'd rather not be in a comfortable bunker with food and drink, communications, and several meters of reinforced concrete, there's the door." She gestured towards the entrance. "I say we just get everyone in and regroup-"

She cut short, on account of the growls now coming from the portal. "Get in!" she said in a stage whisper, climbing the stairs. As they filed down themselves, she activated her cannon, which whirred merrily as it covered their rear. Clear (sorry about godmodding, but I wanna keep this going), she ran up the stairs and slammed the door on a zombie's hand. She locked the door with the internal locks, accessible only from the inside, which would keep them out; after doing that, she considered the hand before leaving it be. It waved around futilely; it would be of no concern.

"Okay," she said, rejoining the group in the sitting room. "Are we all here?"

Glad to finally be out of the city, Sabrina lowered her laspistol, placing it down on a nearby table. "You'd think they built this thing for exactly this situation." She mused aloud, taking in the surroundings. "How many supplies do we got?" She said, plopping herself down on a chair.

Corporal Gopher advanced down the alley way, signally her squad to fan out. They had arrived on the planet just hours before after Z-Com had received a distress signal that had detailed some very well-known symptoms of a plaque on a unimportant planet. Z-Com had ordered Gopher and her team to retrieve some samples and rescue any survivors. Unfortunately their drop ship had been attacked the moment they had landed and was currently sending smoke into the clear (is it night or day?) air. They were currently marching towards a non descriptive building that they had detected life-signs before landing.

As they rounded the corner, gopher nearly blew their cover by stomping on a disregarded (soda) can. The building was surrounded by undead. Gopher signaled to her team, then she proceeded to climb a nearby building to get a better shot.

"Upstairs," Roberta said. "We have a kitchen area with all sorts of conventional perishables and items that require cooking, and there is a crawlspace extending all underneath this floor, which holds the usuals -- bottled water and nonperishables." Forgetting the impression she was giving, she removed her helmet and tossed it lightly onto an abandoned chair. "If you wish to attempt communications, there is a comms station located in the central pillar of this unit. Go upstairs and see for yourself. I'm sure it has everything you need*." She just then noticed the helmet she had unconsciously removed. "Oh yeah... I'm a woman, by the way. Roberta Jaymin."

Sabrina tilted her head in the direction of Rob, taking the new development as a rather numbed surprise. Under normal circumstances, she would have been more visibly startled to see this, but she had more pressing things to think about, like to make sure she lived to see tomorrow. In short, she was worn out. Not that that was anything to be surprised about.

"Good to know you." She remarked. "But why the disguise?"

"Call it an inferiority complex. It seems you can never get taken seriously in this world unless you're a guy. So, I remain an androgynous figure, with a masculine voice." Roberta shrugged. "Irrelevant, now. I figure that, with our numbers, we have enough supplies to hold out comfortably for a week, or sparingly for three." Roberta looked around at them. "Here's the question, though: do we go look for survivors, and bring them back? I mean, coincidence alone brought us together; there must be more people out there."

Seeing that the horde of undead just kept getting larger around the building. Gopher signaled her to execute movement 21(fancy word for fastest member of squad makes alot of noice after remaining members put up a safe zone, its primary used to get zombies away from a survivor's building.)

Tora just shrugged, she didn't care one way or another about Rob's gender. In Tanaara there had always been gender equality, though she knew that wasn’t the same elsewhere. Though she was concerned over Dom's temporary space out. That might mean issues later on.

" I'm retired military. I did fifty and packed it in just a few months ago but I think it's more than just the skills one gains. I think it's the mind set and fortunately more than just the military gives one a 'no panic' take on life.” She looked about and nodded at Rob’s comment on the supply level.

The horde surrounding the building had started to thin out, as the continued barrage of gun fire from z-031 squad had killed many of them, Gopher continued to fire down apond the zombies, she was starting to run low on ammo. She glanced over to the position her squad had taken, they had been doing well too, she saw stacks of zombie all over the alley they had taken cover in. Gopher was slightly considered because not all of the zombies had been as slow or dumb as they usually were a few had even tried climb up to her current position, she had dispatched them quickly but still any new abilities is a bad ability she thought...

She slumped against the wall. She tried to control her breathing, quiet it. She was so tired, so scared. This wasn't what she'd come lightyears for. This wasn't what she'd left home for. This wasn't what her parents or her loving guardian would have wanted for her.

She'd been running, collapsing, and running again for days. She'd managed to scrounge some extra supplies which was good because her survival rations were running out. She pushed herself up the wall and slid over towards the window to take a glance out of the corner of her eye. She didn't see any of those people...those creatures...those things.

She slid back down the wall and rested her head on her scuffed knees of her pink pants. She'd considered ditching the entire ensemble. The pink pants, tunic. and helmet were all too visible, but she wasn't sure that helped. These things seemed to know where she was without seeing her. If she was close, they moaned and slowly made their way towards her. Anyways, she hadn't found anything better to wear, nothing as warm or durable. That was the reason she hadn't gotten rid of them thus far, it was chilly at night and she had to do a lot of climbing and crawling to get through the ruins of this city...oh, darn, this whole planet.

She didn't know where she was. Her starship, the Compact Pussycat, had experienced a cascading series of failures when she'd prepared to jump from her last pitstop at Cumberland. She'd refueled and resupplied and readied for the next leg of the circuit. Then, well, all heck broke loose.

She'd lost everything except her jump engines and life support. However, her jump engines were no good without navigation and as a result, she'd made her last jump blind and wildand ended up here. She didn't want to think about the rest of it right now. She just wanted to rest for a few moment before she knew she'd have to run again.

Sabrina stood up, and stretched her arms and legs. It seemed everyone there was related to the military in some way or another. Including herself, but she didn't feel like revealing a fact of her life to people she had just met, even if they were trustworthy.

"I'm gonna clean up." She announced. Her face was caked with dried blood from shooting and cutting her way through uncountable numbers of zombies. Luckily for her, though, none of the things were able to scratch or bite her, and she remained unscathed.

She thought for a second about finding survivors. "We should look for others, we could always use extra guns, but we shouldn't take on so many that it'll be a strain. We have to live too, you know." She remarked. "Anyway, I'm off." She picked up her laspistol, which lay on the table nearby, and headed to find a bathroom.

Roberta watched the woman head off towards the stairs in search of the bathroom. Her head still turned towards Sabrina, she began stripping her armor off by section, laying it on the ground in one coherent bundle that would facilitate quick rearming. She was all too conscious of the translucent unitard she wore, having cut-outs in it that were necessary for the skin-contact electrodes to function (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_5). Luckily, her modesty had been mostly deleted by her service time. Lucky, really, that a place existed where she could be almost nude in the midst of monsters. That's what she really needed -- her suit to lose power out there, becoming useless metal, and having to disrobe and likely tear her feet to shreds on broken glass. Lovely.

She pointed a finger at Dom threateningly. "One word. You're the only guy here, you know." Satisfied with herself, she padded off to the kitchen, unconsciously swinging her hips. The female mind was a confusing one.

Emily kept walking through the halls, looking for some source of supplies. Eventually she found a small room with a glass window splattered with blood. "Looks promising." Shinaus finished off the last of the zombies, another excellent battle against a large group of cannon fodder. This time he had come out unscathed, luckily zombies didn't carry firearms, so the energy shield he carried (litterally a shield made out of energy, not the traditional FT energy shield.) was quite effective in this situation. He had his AI track where the group went so he could easily find them, and slowly and cautiously made his way to the bunker/skyscraper. When he arrived at the door he banged on it in a musical manner, as to differentiate himself from a reckless zombie.

She was woken up by crash. She jumped with a start and scanned around the room frantically. It…nothing was in the room with her. She stayed still, listening for movement. There was nothing close, but this was not a place to stop. She knew she’d passed out, she couldn’t help it, but she forced herself to her feet. She had to keep moving.

She sidled up to the window again and peaked out. Oh God, they were down in the street. A couple of them were milling about. They weren’t moaning so they must not see her. She edged deeper into the building. She’d have to go out another exit and hope there weren’t any of those things on that side. She hugged her arms around her. Everything had gone wrong. First her systems went haywire and then her first rescue.

Just after she’d landed and she’d encountered the monsters and escaped their clutches little more than her life, another race, Dick Dastardly and his faithful dog Muttly had come to look for her. He wasn’t the best racer or the most polite…or the best mechanic as he too had become stranded on this planet when he couldn’t lift back off upon discovering the…things. He’d managed to escape and in process found her. He was a rough man, not a gentleman per se, but he had come back for her, so that put him higher in her opinion.

He’d said that her parent’s old family friend, Mr. Whiplash, a lawyer comically enough, had hired him to ensure she returned home safely. Although her beloved guardian had always told her to be wary of Mister Whiplash and his affections, he did hire a brave, fellow racer to come save her. She didn’t reflect much on how quickly Dick Dastardly came to find her on this out of the way planet after she’d made a blind jump, or how Mister Whiplash had hired him so quickly to come find her. She was grateful to have company, and a man who knew what he was doing.

He grumbled and his dog snickered as they made their way through the city in the hopes of finding rescue or shelter. They’d been together less than day really when it happened. They’d drawn the notice of a lot of them. That’s was back when they hadn’t gotten the full scope of where they were and how silent and unnoticed they’d need to be. Dastardly grumbled rather loudly, his dog snickered not quite silently enough, and she’d talked out of nerves and relief. They’d drawn quite the mob of the things.

In the end, Dastardly had shown what sort of courage he had been made of. He pushed her down to get her out of sight, and then he and Muttly had run screaming into the distance, arms flailing wildly as they went. They’d purposefully made themselves the loudest, most noticeable things around. Beyond all chance, the things ignored her and followed the screaming pair. Such courage…she was utterly ashamed when she heard them scream one last time, shrilly and piercingly, and then fall silent. They’d sacrificed their lives for her with such bravery.

She made her way through the building. It was a half burned hulk. What wasn’t burned was spoiled or melted by the heat and smoke. She couldn’t find anything useful and portable. She needed both qualities in anything found. She couldn’t take something that was useful if it slowed her down to the point where she exhausted herself trying to carry it. She came to a side entrance and reached into her purse. She didn’t know why she’d grabbed it on the way out of the Compact Pussycat, habit maybe, but she did know that she couldn’t abandon it now. It held a few useful things, in the right circumstances, and it did allow her to carry more things and just her survival pack would allow, but more importantly it was connection to a last bit of normality that didn’t exist on this unnamed and woeful begotten planet.

She pulled open a compact and extended the mirror around the corner of the door jamb. She scanned the street in one direction and then moved to the other side of the door and did it again. It looked clear. She leaned out for a quick look. It was clear. She moved out of the door and quickly across the street to the next building. She needed to find somewhere she could hold up; somewhere she could barricade and get some real sleep. The few cat naps she could get weren’t nearly enough. But first she’d need to get out of this neighborhood. Most of it was fire-gutted and it was still infested with those things. There’d be no shelter here.

Finished, Rob realized she had been near screaming at the end, and found that she cared little. "I don't care if it turned out all right in the end. That could have been one of the hyper-intelligent ones I--" She cut off mid-sentence; not something that needed to be heard.

With a shuddering sigh, she turned and paced around for a bit. Lord Tiger, she thought to herself, please, let the fleet come soon. Sighing, she stepped over to where her armor rested, sliding her bare feet into the boots and working up from there. Time was wasting.

"I don't know if it is a virus, okay?" Rob shook her head in frustration. "I'm more confused than any of you, I'm sure. This word, zahmbees, stop using it," she said shortly. "From what I can gather, that's some sort of fiction. This isn't fiction. I don't know if it is a neurotoxin, or mind control -- what if it's nanobots which nearly kill most of their hosts, and make the rest slaves to their will? I know nothing about this. Sabrina held her ground in the face of Rob's verbal onslaught, refusing to bat an eyelid. Forget this in the military we did things differently crap. She knew what the military types would have done. The two weren't as different as Rob seemed to think.

She chuckled inwardly. She still hadn't told them. She placed her hand on her pocket, feeling the small picture there. Best not to flash it around now.

"Isn't the military procedure to 'never leave a comrade behind?' And besides, do you honestly think those...whatever they are... can tap a full coherent beat to the song Never Gonna Give You Up? I'm sorry that civilians still have a shred of humanity." She replied bitterly, a hint of sadness breaking it's way through her voice. Humanity. By the Emperor, did that word have a story behind it. Sabrina could go on about that topic, but decided against it. It was humanity that made her leave in the first place.

"My dear," Rob responded in an exaggeratedly sweet manner, "I'm afraid that you aren't a soldier. I am. And in the military, despite what public media may claim, your first and last prerogative is to follow orders. If you are ordered to slaughter innocents, you follow it. If you are ordered to leave a man behind, you do it. Those heartwarming tales of going back for your best buddy is propaganda bullshit." She punctuated her sentence by replacing her helmet. A hissing noise emanated from it as her suit pressurized. "And," she added, her voice now deep and masculine once more, "as for intelligence; well, you didn't hear a pair of them arguing, in coherent Basic, over where you might have gone when you were hiding in a building from them."

I just did my job. And saving a life is not Propaganda bullshit, it's what soldiers do, we work as a team, a Unit, a pack, you leave no one behind! OOC: Tiger take a look at this - page 247 is what you might want to look at (Superior Orders in National and International Law ) and the concept of illegal orders. Genoicide / mass murder / killing of civilians is generally considered by all civilized nations to be war crimes and 'just following orders' does not absolve one - see the Nurenburg trails after WWII.

"A camera?" Rob snorted. "I doubt it. I've got a better solution." She went up to the door and placed her 'ear' to it. Sure enough, shuffling sounds were caught by the amplification. Sighing, she played with her gauntlets.

"Stand back, and be ready," she said to the group. Unlocking the door, she watched as it slid slowly apart, revealing a crowd of the undead.

A growl from near the back shook her, and she held up her palms. The shining globes in their middle lit up spectacularly before firing beams of energy into the crowd, simply smashing whatever they touched. She looked back. That growl... it had almost sounded like, "ATTACK!" Better not to think about that, and hopefully the others failed to realize.

Sabrina, instantly realizing what Rob was muttering about, scooped up her laspistol from the table, pointing it squarely at the door as it slowly opened...

Sabrina shielded her eyes as the blinding white light from Rob's palms more or less annihilated the shambling horde of monsters that faced them. That could have been used a lot sooner, she thought quietly to herself, as she slipped another power pack into the weapon with a fluid motion that only someone with training could handle. Although they had just gotten over a rough bump, a difference in beliefs, they still had to work together. Refusing to collaborate meant certain death.

But strangely enough, she wasn't afraid. But that didn't surprise her, though. In fact, she had felt nothing over the past few hours. All this mindless shooting and stabbing, it was just like that time. (OOC: Cue mysterious past!!!)

C'mon, it's rescue time.

Sabrina slowly stepped into the desolate hallway, in the armored shadow of Rob, aiming her laspistol straight down it's expanse. She was concentrating so hard, she almost jumped when she heard Rob's voice, amplified by her armored helmet's vox-caster, boom out.

"Something about what?" Sabrina whispered, listening hard. However, she had heard nothing but unnerving scilence. "No...nothing. Don't you have augments?"

She'd finally found a place to hold up and rest. She'd gotten out of the burned section of the city...was it a city or was this one of those ugly city planets? Short on stories if it was a city planet...they usually had massive artificial canyons between buildings with ground levels that never saw daylight.

She shook her head. Exhaustion was getting to her.

She checked the door again. She'd locked the roof top door. It'd taken a lot of time and two broken hairpins to do it. The roof of the next building was close enough, she reckoned. She'd made a longer jump to win her division's track and field championship in her junior year at Whatsamatta U. She could make it and exit down through that building if those things came up the stairs for her.

She'd have to spend a cold night on the roof, but she didn't really have a choice. She was absolutely beat and didn't have the time to do anything more complicated to get shelter. She pulled a metallic thermal blanket out of her survival gear and unfolded to its entire full size. She snugged it around her and lay against the roof top door. If they stared to bang on the door she'd feel it and be able to get up, and the small hut on the roof was a windbreak.

She lay her head down on her purse and whispered a few prayers as she drifted off.

Clamping her hands to her head instinctively, Rob hissed, "Damn! You don't have to be so loud!" At that, she cast her eyes about her HUD. Wow, they were still on. The damper just got overworked.

"Yeah," she said finally. The display flashed a map of the entire ground floor of the skyscraper, showing probable locations of origin. Most were centered around the entrance. "My AI tells me its someone talking, and they're at the entrance. Do we go to them?" She turned and looked at the group. "Don't forget that they may be the smart ones."

KW-1 ran through the empty city his heart racing. The sound of his boots and grenades bouncing off his chest. As he ran the world was being scanned around him, he used his x-ray sensor to see any movement as he ran. The world looked black and white, the non-skeleton things black and the bones of anything that was hit by the small radiation that emitted from his helmet was shown in white. " What was that?" He thought to himself turning back around to see something in the distance. KW-1 quickly gained ground to the moving convoy of people, it was rather small. Kash talked to Nate as they moved " We need to find a place to stay tonight, perhaps one of these buildings we can barricade?"

Dolly the cloned sheep died of old age after just a few years. It was as if the clone caught up to the age of the original." Nate suddenly realized just how much taller he was than the rest of the group and didn't like that fact one it. "See the fence up there? That's the base."

Kash nodded as he spotted it, but as he ran he was thrown off course and into a concrete wall as a Zombie ran and slammed into him. Kash's eyes went crazy inside his HUD he was slightly disorientated from the impact. It shattered his HUD showing a large crack and static images. KW-1 slumped down and moaned not knowing where he was. The Zombie looked hungry as it moved in on him. The dumb bastard didn't realize that what he just did caused his entire shoulder to shatter.

Nate, though terrified, drew a pistol and took aim. "Kash, I don't advise moving." He said, pulling the trigger a couple times. The beast fell off KW-1 but more were sure to come. "We need to get to that base and now."
North Calaveras
19-11-2008, 07:51
Kash took off his helmet exposing his face. It was pale with ice blue eyes, and short dirty blonde hair. He coughed and blinked a couple of times on all fours before standing up. A piece of the HUD had broked off and caused a gash down his right eye. The blood dripped off down his chin and on to the ground He then answerd " Oh fuck.." He said dizzily before replying to Nate " ya....ya lets go..."
Sylvonia
19-11-2008, 07:53
Nate pulled out a small handkerchief from his pocket. "Thank goodness for bleach", he said, putting it over the gash and instructing Kash to hold it there. "My sister has our med kit. She's the doctor anyway." They quickly reached the fence and Nate started climbing.
North Calaveras
19-11-2008, 07:56
"Thanks.." He said when they reached he fence KW-1 began to climb it as well, it wasn't massive, but it wasn't a small fence either. It shook as his body hualed itself upward. Kash followed behind Nate, he took note to how strange it was seeing such a tall man trying to climb this fence. The military base was a place he wanted and didn't want to be at the same time, who knew what was there.
Sylvonia
19-11-2008, 07:59
Nate hadn't looked before climbing. "Strange, someone already cut away the barbed wire up here." He observed, lowering himself over and heading for the door.
North Calaveras
19-11-2008, 08:00
KW-1 quickly followed Nate through the gaping hole in the fence and following him to the door, he brought up his rifle and squinted his eyes watching for any enemys. " You know they could have broken through the fence...right?" He said wathcing Nates back and keeping the other in the corner of his eye.
Sylvonia
19-11-2008, 08:06
"Yes. Broken through and made it that much easier for an assault on this place." Nate said, inspecting the door. "Looks like something Em would do, blowing out this lock." It swung open with a light touch.

OOC: Going to bed. I'm really tired and I'm going to have a lot of crap to deal with tomorrow.
North Calaveras
19-11-2008, 08:09
Kash looked into the door, he didn't have his HUD to scan the room so he waited to see if Nate wanted to go in first, KW-1 would gladly volunteer, but it seemed that Nate was the leader and knew the terrain better than most. Kash drew his pistol now, so as not to burn Nate if he had to fire his War-Path phased plasma rifle only feet from him.

MEANWHILE, at the bunker...

"I'm not sure what we do now," Rob told them. "They've gone, taken off running, from what I can tell. If they were people, they're probably headed for Fort Inbras*. We should go that way, too." Checking her energy levels, she grinned. "In fact, my suit's recharged, so, uh, yeah, keep hiking east and you'll get there. Have fun." Taking off at a sprint, she leaped into the air. At the apogee of her jump, her boot's thrusters ignited and the repulsors on her palms fired, launching her skyward. To fly again... bliss.

She came upon the base quickly enough and looked down. There were people in the buildings, it seemed. Time to see if they notice a flying, armored person.

I assume your talking about ^^ and ^^^ little group, and as far as i can tell they hadn't made it to the buildings yet, but o well.

Gopher
Gopher and her squad advanced towards the center of the military base, looking for any signs of a long-range commutation device so far they had found only dried blood and other signs of zombies. Gopher heard a slight roar above her. "?" She dashed towards the nearest window to see what had just passed by, she glimpsed an armor suit touching down at the front of the base. She ordered one of her squad mates to go check it out and try to make contact (zombie meat, never go alone:) ) as they continued to advance to the center of the compound.

Dom sighed.
"That is perhaps the single most stupid thing I have ever seen short of diving into a tank full of starving sharks. Those things are attracted to noise, to shiny things, meat, movement and fire, at least those I've seen. That fills most of the categories." He unslung his rifle, checking it for jams before nodding. "Right. I'll go on ahead. The silencer is broken on my gun, so the deaders will have no trouble finding me. I'll try and lead them on a little detour while you head straight for the fort, gotcha? Just avoid the stench of dead zombies. If you can tell the difference between them and the living ones." he chuckled darkly to himself as he moved off down a series narrow alleys, his path occasionaly lit by a screech and a short burst of light and earsplitting rounds from his Wolverine.

Well, you obviously can't just appear from the next corner. Just give a paragraph or so of what your character's been doing, and then go from there.

Rob adjusted her flight through twitches of her hands, steadying the suit's trajectory. Satisfied, she pulled back, her feet coming forward until she was in a mainly upright position. Dropping to the ground in a controlled free fall, she landed in a crouch, cannon trained on the incoming figure.

"Identify!" she shouted at the running man, weapon primed.

Ivan sat at the table, drinking coffe from the lone machine in the area. What a time. First, he was taken to this planet for the minimum requirement of money, and then, those... things came from everywhere. One by one, the members of his mercenary force, the Riders, were eliminated, and turned into those... things. Now, he was the only one left.

He had a pretty good baricade at a police station, with the roof, doors, and windows barricaded. He had to admit though, the coffe was running short. But his ammo was not. The... things were pressing around the station, in a near limitless horde. Even a recruit would have realized that a blast would not make a dent in their numbers. But, his food was running low, so, today he would move.

He went down, sniper rifle, assault rifle, machine gun, and pistol clipped onto his armor, and got in one of the heavily armored vehicles with some gasoline in it. Hopefully, he could find some other people, collect his payment, and get of this planet and away from those... things.

He revved the engine up, and, leaning out his window, shot down a wall with a powerful blast of his shoulder lasers. He was proud of them- one on each shoulder, able to recharge relativly quickly. When the hole was formed, he lead-footed the pedal, and, silently (OOC: Things Electric)IC: drove out of the building at 100 miles an hour, passing the... things gathered outside of the police station, and leaving them in the dust.

As he drove, he heard, through the pick-ups in his armor, a voice shouting "Identify". He stopped the engine, and crept out of the vehicle, and hid behind a fallen statue, watching to see if the person was infected or not. It was wearing armor, so he decided it was safe it was not infected. Ivan silently tossed a voice generator near the figure, just to communicate in neccesary.

Zilok sat in wait for the zombies to come again. 2 days ago his team was fired down in an ODSP (Orbital Drop Shock Pod). The ODSPs had landed straight into a horde of zombies. His team had been killed and devoured. Zilok was the only one left of Delta Unit. As he sat there he began to hear voices from far away...

It flew steadily lower, thundering between the skyscrapers. Finally, it touched the ground. But it didn't stop. Still moving at about 100mph, it slammed into the ground and bounced through into a building, finally coming to a halt as it hit a concrete pillar. Smoke billowed from the ship, and a small electronic voice could be heard

At that point Zilok was already fairly close to the military compound. In fact he had two zombies dragging them selves (legs gone) towards him. He unholstered his Maulers and filled em up with lead.

But the Maulers themselves were quite loud as they were a sort of automatic shotgun. The sound echoed for a few seconds, but loud enough to be heard 200m away.

OOC: Im pretty sure that I'm close to you Chazaka...
