The New Tsar of Myedvedeya

Myedvedeya
12-11-2008, 03:39
The Tsar is Dead.

Aydan Krakovsky, the man who unified Myedvedeya and created this nation, has been killed in battle.

The battle against the rebels in Yaroslavl hadn't been going on for too long, but it was beginning to be a taxing issue for the Myedvedeyan government. The rebels had not earned much popular support, but, like any terrorist organization, they disturbed the normal flow of life for Myedvedeyan citizens tremendously. The Myedvedeyan objective in this war had been directed towards slowly pushing the rebels back, before their center of organization could be found, and they could be destroyed in one fell swoop. Finally, the time for that swoop had come. The Tsar himself accompanied his best troops into the battle, and the sun set over the end of the Yaroslavl rebellions.

The Tsar's Guard, Myedvedeya's best, did their job well. The rebellion was crushed, and the battle was won handily. Still, there was a much greater cost for the Myedvedeyans than they could have possibly imagined.

"When we arrived in Yaroslavl, there was no sign of anyone" Said Captain Vladimir Osterchenko. "As we entered the town, we were suddenly ambushed. We were completely surrounded, and we have only our training to thank for the fact that we managed to keep calm under the pressure. The Tsar spotted a weakness, and shouted the order to charge. With bullets flying around our ears, we did so, diving into bodily contact with rebels. The scene could only be described as a massive street brawl. The Tsar himself took the lead, but a grenade exploded a few feet away from him. I saw him fly through the air and to the left, and then I lost sight of him as momentum carried my bayonet into the torso of an enemy combatant."

"I was next to the Tsar when the grenade landed" Said Corporal Ulya Ivanev. "We were both knocked over by the blast. The Tsar began to climb back to his feet, but a rebel stuck him in the back of the neck with a hunting knife. From what I saw, he died on the spot."

The 23-year old Marshal Nikolai Rostov took command of the troops for the remainder of the battle, leading them to a decisive victory over the rebels.

For obvious reasons, the unexpected death of the Tsar has thrown Myedvedeya into turmoil. As is the ancient Myedvedeyan method, the new Tsar is chosen not by Birth, but by Merit, through the Tsardom Trials. To participate in the Tsardom Trials, a person must be nominated as a candidate.

A candidate is nominated by:

1)-An official statement from the Tsar (does not apply as the Tsar is dead)

2)-A majority vote in one of the two legislative houses of Myedvedeya, the Ursine Council and the Human Council.

3)-A campaign ending in approval by 2/3 of the Myedvedeyan population.

The trials themselves consist of tests in every possible field. The nominees are required to enact foreign policies, deal with real people and real people's problems, take tests of intelligence, ability to make decisions under pressure, charisma, leadership, and nearly every other topic imaginable. The scores are kept secret until the end of the trials, to keep the nominees at the highest possible level of effort. The Trials are physically and Mentally demanding, and some have died in the process before.

The trials conclude at midnight on the 16th day, with the name of the winner being announced by the living Tsar, if there is one, or by the Chiefs of the two Courts of Arbitration, if both Tsars are deceased. The winner is crowned 16 days from the conclusion of the trials, in the Tsar's Coronation. Anyone who has been nominated, even if they do not win, earns a massive amount of respect and honor in the Myedvedeyan community, and often gains a place in the Tsar's personal Council.

The Candidates for the Tsardom Trials of Myedvedeya Are:

Name: Nikolai Rostov
Rank/Qualification: Marshal of the Armed Forces of Myedvedeya
Age: 23
Nomination Method: Popular Vote
Education: The Moskva Military Academy, Command School
Pros: Huge Popular Support, Skill in Command, Charisma
Cons: Inexperience, Militaristic Attitude
Personality: Calm, collected, charming. Very intelligent, smokes heavily.

Rostov is a sensation in the Myedvedeyan military, and the youngest person ever to be named a Marshal of the Myedvedeyan armed forces. He is the man who lead Myedvedeya to a victory over the rebels after the first Tsar's death, and he is currently the favorite of the people for the Tsar's position. Rostov is an extremely charismatic, calm leader, and is very good at dealing with both civilians and soldiers. He is extremely nationalistic and militaristic, and has a desire to spread Myedvedeyan dominion to as many places as possible. In many ways, he is very similar to the deceased Krakovsky. His inexperience is the main concern many have with Rostov's candidacy.

Name: Dimitar Naesenko
Rank/Qualification: Justice of the Myedvedeyan High Court of Arbitration
Age: 51
Nomination Method: Nominated by the Councils.
Education: Pyotroveskovlad Political Institute, Moskva Business Academy.
Pros: Very experienced, Calm, Knows the law by heart, extremely well educated.
Cons: No Charisma, no military experience.
Personality: Scholarly, aloof, incredibly intelligent.

Naesenko has been a justice on the Myedvedeyan High Court of Arbitration for a very long time, and is renowned as one of the most learned men in the nation. The Councils nominated him as a candidate out of fear for Rostov's inexperience, and he will have the support of much of the more conservative population through his election bid. He is also very calm under pressure, and is considered the best foreign policy candidate.

Name: Ivan Petrovitch
Rank/Qualification: Head of the Myedvedeyan Worker's Front
Age: 42
Nomination Method: Popular Vote
Education: Karsevlev University
Pros: Worker's Candidate, Good on Domestic issues, Good Military Man
Cons: No foreign policy or law experience, little education.
Personality: Jittery, Passionate, Hard-Working. Drinks too much coffee.

Petrovitch is the working man's candidate. He was nominated by the working people, and he wants to win the trials for the working people. A Petrovitch Tsardom would turn Myedvedeya in a socialist direction, with every government effort focused on the good of the common people. Petrovitch has no experience with the law, or with other nations, but is skilled on domestic issues and military ones. He received education at a poor university, but this will only benefit his status as a Workingman's man.

Name: Anton Shcherbatskayev
Rank/Qualification: Member of the Human Council
Age: 63
Nomination Method: Nominated by the Councils
Education: Pyotroveskovlad Political Institute
Pros: Amazing Orator, Charismatic and good with foreign policies.
Cons: No military experience, older, weaker under pressure.
Personality: Abrasive in person, inspiring when giving speeches.

Shcherbatskayev is an enigma as a candidate, because he behaves like the young, inspiring candidate, while he is the oldest, and one of the most educated, conservative ones. He is a amazing giver of speeches, and will be able to inspire Myedvedeya greatly, but he is abrasive in person, which could cause problems in cooperation with other nations. He has no military experience, but is a statesman, and does not really need military skills as such. The oldest of the candidates, he may be disadvantaged in the trials due to pure fatigue.

Name: Roman Lobov
Rank/Qualification: Oil Tycoon
Age: 38
Nomination Method: Nominated by the Councils
Education: Moskva Business Academy
Pros: Brilliant moneymaker, good on domestic issues and the economy
Cons: No political experience whatsoever
Personality: Richard Branson

Lobov is the opposite of Petrovitch, a candidate for the rich. He is a self-made billionaire, and will probably be an excellent Tsar for the wealthy, and for the economy as a whole. He has no political experience whatsoever, causing his nomination to come as a complete surprise. Considered the least qualified and least likely candidate to win office.

(OOC: This thread should be for other nations to voice their support for certain candidates, offer benefits in legal or illegal manner, essentially influence the outcome in any way they can for their own benefit. Reports from the trials themselves will also be common.)
